A Beginners Guide To Being A Grown Up

E3- Sarah Salway

Sam Season 1 Episode 3

Sarah Salway is the author of three novels, including Something Beginning With, Tell Me Everything and Getting the Picture. In addition, she has published two short fiction collections, Leading the Dance and Not Sorry, and three poetry collections, You Do Not Need Another Self-Help Book and Digging Up Paradise. Her latest book, Learning Springsteen on my Language App was the joint winner of the Geoff Stevens Memorial Award.

She is a former Canterbury Laureate and Royal Literary Fund Fellow at the London School of Economics, and has taught creative writing at post-graduate level at the Universities of Kent and Sussex. Sarah is currently a mentor with the Royal Literary Fund, helping to run Reading groups around the country, and is passionate about how writing and reading – for pleasure! - can improve wellbeing and personal development. She has worked with charities, business people and the local community to help this happen. To this end, she has a substack called Everyday Words. Her other interest is in writing about gardens - not for the plants but the people and stories contained within them. She has two websites - one for pictures of the plaques on benches, and one called Writer in the Garden which began as part of her Laureate project.

Sarah trained as a journalist at the London College of Fashion, and has worked for Lynne Franks PR, Cosmopolitan, Time Out and the Scotsman newspaper. She currently lives in Kent, and constantly fails in her ambitions to make more of her own clothes and to create a healthy herb garden for culinary and medicinal use.

Listen to find out how Sarah has found success in different aspects of her life, and what she would put in the guide...
