The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating global shipping. Headquartered in London, its primary mandate is to ensure the safety, security, and efficiency of international shipping while preventing marine and atmospheric pollution from ships. By developing and maintaining a comprehensive regulatory framework—which includes international treaties covering vessel design, construction, equipment, and operation—the IMO facilitates global cooperation among member states to promote fair, sustainable, and secure maritime trade.
In this episode Barry talks about his recent experience at the IMO and breaks down some of the processes that are involved in the 111th Maritime Safety Committee at which Barry is an IMO delegate.
