Hello Beautiful People, 

I’m Your Host Dreme. 

I’m a Black woman, an educator turned tech entrepreneur but still an educator. Building a platform called THE CHAIR is a Black and Brown centered tech platform dedicated to supporting people on their hair journey. You can design hairboards, connect to hair stylists, and share hair care tips all in one space for a more joyous and streamlined experience. I built THE CHAIR Podcast to highlight hair journeys. A reminder to keep creating magic. As people sit in THE CHAIR you will get more than just hair stories. You will be immersed into experiences surrounding education, entrepreneurship, and identity. I hope you enjoy listening to my stories and the stories of my guests as we sit in THE CHAIR. 

THE CHAIR (S1/Ep22) — I'm Closer to Nature

I met Dr. Korey as a bald man. We met in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is a Fulbright Research recipient and I a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship recipient. We began to form a friendship over good food, conversation, and art. But before hearing his transition to becoming that bald man and that journey in itself, he shares many hair journeys before then. Enjoy!

His Bio:
A native of Schenectady, NY, I found myself as a computer scientist working for corporate America and stationed in Johanessburg, South Africa.  My travels through Bantuland brought me to Robben Island, where I learned of South Africa’s first political prisoner during Apartheid, Robert Sobukwe. This unsung hero was imprisoned for his ability to craft messages of upheavel and liberation. Charred by the collateral flames of mass incarceration in my community, and warmed by the legacy and life of Robert Sobukwe, I now position my scholarship as a blazing commitment to the investigation and dismantling of systems sheathed in antiblackness, policing, and empire.
