Joining us this week is the man who's laced up the boots of two very important figures in wartime history, Corin Silva! From a hardheaded USAAF Colonel, to a soft-spoken, God-fearing man, Corin has shown us not only two sides of himself, but the juxtaposition of war. He's brought to the screen the 100th Bomb Group's Colonel John Bennett, and SAS Rogue Heroes Jim Almonds, and now he's sitting down with us to talk about his experiences in boot camp, the friendships forged and maybe a small teaser for the third season of Rogue Heroes! But you didn't hear that from us- shh! Join us in The Clubmobile for coffee, fresh sinkers, and good conversation!
Hey guys, become the doll is big fresh sinkers, hot coffee, and the sweetest line. Hey everyone, welcome back to the Clubmobile.
SPEAKER_00Hey everybody, how are you?
SPEAKER_01We have a cracking episode for you today. I have been so excited to do this, and I'm so excited to introduce from SAS Rogue Heroes Corinne Silver. Corin, thank you for joining us.
SPEAKER_03Hello, thank you.
SPEAKER_00So thrilled to have you hanging out with us. Winnie, I know how excited you are because you just called it a cracking episode. You're British is showing.
SPEAKER_01Yes. I think like even yeah, even before we start, I have to I have to tell Corinne that Rogue Heroes is so special to me because I grew up around the RAF regiment, even though it's a totally different ball game in terms of British military. The camp the camaraderie that you guys have on screen and in real life, it reminds me so much of my childhood. It reminds me so much of my mother owned um a cafe on an RAF base. So all these men that would come in, they wouldn't only like be kind to her, they'd be so kind to me. And we'd have so much fun. So from a young age, my good friends were men like Jim Almonds and Patty. And so it's been excellent to watch that, especially like because I'm so far away from home and I'm homesick. I get to have like that tiny bit of nostalgia, and I get to brush off on World War II history. So it's which is why I just crack it as cracking.
SPEAKER_00It doesn't sound as good when I say it.
SPEAKER_03No, nothing savage.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um wow, cutthroat in this room. Damn.
SPEAKER_03Well we can't we can't say howdy or something, do you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00I can't say it either. I'm from New York. Howdy, no. It doesn't sound as good when I say it.
SPEAKER_03We have your words. We have our words, yes, yes, yeah. It's true.
SPEAKER_01It's so true. Very true. Um, Corin, for those that haven't seen Rogue Heroes and they should be watching it.
SPEAKER_00Shame on them.
SPEAKER_01Shame on them. Could you catch us up on Jim Arman's exploits of season one and two?
SPEAKER_03Just Jim, uh well, they start in the in North Africa, they were in Tobruk, um fighting off the Germans and Rommel and his boys, um, defending the port town, and then the commandos got formed at some point, which were Churchill's new shock troops, and then everyone, Sterling and uh Patty Main and people like that came together. Jock Lewis, obviously. Three guys that came together to start a new type of warfare, and um Jim Almonds who I play, uh sergeant at the time, was all for it. Sounded like uh sounded like a new way to hit back at the at the enemy. So um they created the first machinations of special forces and uh did espionage and sabotage in the desert in the middle of the night. And um it developed more and more people joined, and we lived in the desert.
SPEAKER_01We'll say we I mean, technically, you also did, right?
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, yeah, that's a good point. You you did live through it, so I would say yes, you lived in the desert.
SPEAKER_03We did, yeah. We had we had it a bit easier, it wasn't just fully big.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't just living in the sand.
SPEAKER_03We had lunch, yeah. We stopped for lunch daily. I don't think they did. We had a toilet that flushed, toilet flushed, classic, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_03And all of all of our desert swords were prosthetic, thankfully.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's good at least. Yeah, thank god for that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. The camel spiders are real though. Oh god. No, no, but um don't like them. No, nobody does. The spiders don't even like them, they're gross. The so the you know, the allies eventually won in North Africa, and the SAS went through different changes, but they were the first to land in Europe in Sicily in the invasion under a different name at that point, but um still the same, a lot of the same lads, including Jim. Well, actually, including Jim in the show. Uh, Jim was actually.
SPEAKER_01I was about to say, yeah, he was.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Wasn't he wasn't he supposed to be sent home? Didn't he wasn't his son sick or something? His younger son was sick.
SPEAKER_03He was, he he um he wasn't spoiled. That was actually on the first jump. The first jump they ever did, Jim didn't go on because his son, um Charn also was was sick back home and he he was just writing letters, you know, and Sterling didn't want him to go, I don't think. Um and but but when it came to actually the invasion of Italy, Jim got captured in the desert. His story is incredible, absolutely amazing of how he escaped three times, recaptured twice, and yeah, yeah, and eventually, yeah, just going like traversing the like I think it was the Alps, it would have been, uh alone, eating you know, berries, living off the land, barely making fires, yeah, for weeks until he made it to Switzerland, I believe it was.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_03Amazing story. And then when he did get home, he was Churchill's um private bodyguard for a while. Um, which was no time for but maybe then in the spin-off, but um yes, give us that. Yeah, it's just suggested, but that's what he that's what he did, and then he met the boys again um in Scotland um when they were retraining, and then yeah, sorry the the Italian campaign, Sicily into Italy, um which was some tough going, and the Battle of Turboli happens, which was a huge loss for the unit. Yeah, and then um, yeah, they go back to Scotland, retrain, planning, you know, secretly for D-Day, and uh the SES's job was to go behind the lines and disrupt, and uh that's what they did, and that is season three, and that is why you can't tell us that folks is where we're all that's that's that.
SPEAKER_00Thank you.
SPEAKER_03I was lest I be sued.
SPEAKER_00We don't want that to happen. We don't want that to happen, not from us. I don't want that to happen. No, not really not from us. I was very excited to see the Italian the Italy campaign kind of depicted because uh my grandparents were in Sicily at the time and they were stuck. They had my grandmother's family had, you know, we were born born and raised in Sicily, and then they moved to North Africa and they opened up a bottling company. Wow. And then when the war broke out, her father said, If I'm gonna die, I'm dying at home, and they went back to Sicily. And then that's where they got stuck. They were just under they were just under the under the boot of the Axis and they were trapped. Wow. Her brother was captured as a POW in Benghazi and was there throughout the rest of the war. But it's just very interesting to kind of see uh it all unfold after only hearing her talk about it because she was a teenager when it happened, she was 14, 15 years old. So to see it unfold in, you know, in real time on TV, it's very almost like when you would say nostalgic to kind of say, well, this is what she was talking about all those years. Um, you know, you could finally see it. I think that might be what I enjoyed the most. Because it was like a little piece of oh damn, there's a little piece of family history right there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Is she still with us?
SPEAKER_00Did she she's no, no, for a number of years now. But she looked she was one of those strong-headed Sicilian types. And she did they did eventually come to the States, and you know, my mother is first generation Italian American. She's the only the first one born here on their side of the family. So it's very it's very nice to know that that was finally put into that was how it happened. That was how it happened, yeah. Whereas I always knew, you know, my dad's side, his dad, his uncles, they were all in the army. We always knew that. Yeah, we didn't really know what happened on the other side.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't know, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It was very nostalgic.
SPEAKER_01Shady history, I would say, yeah. Um, Corinne tell us about auditioning for Rogue Heroes and for Masters of the Air. For those that don't know, Corinne plays um John Bennett in Masters of the Air as well. What was offered first? What did you audition for first?
SPEAKER_03Um Rogues first. Yeah. Okay. Rogues rogues, you could call a big break. So um agreed. So yeah, so that helped me get all the auditions for other things. But uh the auditioning for it was um it was it was weird, actually. It came almost out of nowhere. I was talking about this recently, and then me emailing everyone, um trying to say, you know, look at me, kind of thing, and um happened to attach a picture, and I think Carleen Crawford, the casting director, thought, yeah, looks like he might be you know, thank god I was short back and sides and clean, clean faced at the time. Because uh I was I guess I was the right age and the right look, but she she didn't know me at the time, so thankfully she took a she took a punt of of bringing me in. Um well as a tape first seven, eight pages, and I'm so excited. I spent hours on it. I I rounded up about four of my friends and were like, We're we're making, I'm buying pizza, you're staying. Yeah, just stay here while I do this, please. Yeah, we're doing this all day. Like people were holding the camera, each character that was talking to instead of just you know, because a lot of auditions you would do with just one other person, they would read every line, set up the camera. I was like, I can't be moving the I want to show me the movement. So you're holding the camera, you're following me around. Yes, you're doing this character, you're doing this character. I need you all there for notes. Yes, and we stayed there for about it, I think we did it for about five, six hours. Um, yeah, which I guess was worth it because lo and behold, here we are.
SPEAKER_01It worked in your favor.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Here you go. There you go. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Did you have did you have to film both simultaneously? Like, like were you on set for rogue heroes and then were you hopping over to Masters and then coming back?
SPEAKER_03No, no, no, no. That was it was it was a fair bit after. In fact, no, not a fair bit. I think we rapped on Rogues in August and got Masters in September, and I think we started a bit after that, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it's so they did they did film them in order, so yeah, you're right at the end.
SPEAKER_03That yeah, yeah, that's right. Yeah, yeah, I was right at the end. Yeah, I was in episode, I think it was like seven. Again, I've not accounted seven and eight, the end of seven.
SPEAKER_01Have you not watched it? He's not watching it.
SPEAKER_03No, I've watched some of it. I've watched some of it. It's how good.
SPEAKER_00I remember the first time I watched it because obviously I think we had Masters before we got Rose in the States.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we didn't get so Windows was released that Chris that new year time for season one. We didn't get it until right before season two came out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I didn't get the states until you did it. Season two came out on BBC. Oh, there you go. So we had seen you as Bennett first. Oh, right, of course. And then, you know, then Rose came out, and I'm texting Winnie. I go, that's Bennett from that's Bennett from SCCR. And she's like, What?
SPEAKER_01Here's the thing we thought you were this big broad Texan. So when you appeared on Rogue Hero, we thought that you were putting on a British accent. No, we thought that it was the other way around because you're the way we were like this man is a big broad Texan dude that plays football and drinks. 100% absolutely no. Not at all. And then who but it was at each other.
SPEAKER_00It was like, oh wow, oh my god, it's Bennett. And then first you were like Bennett, who you were like Bennett who? Bennett who? And I said, Bennett Colonel Bennett, Colonel Bennett, who doesn't stop Rosenthal from re-enlisting at the end of episode seven, she goes, oh my god. I said, guess what? He's not American.
SPEAKER_02He's not a big thing.
SPEAKER_00Guess what? He's one of your people. He's one of mine. Thank you. One of yours.
SPEAKER_03To get that from Americans honestly makes me very, very I'm not even kidding.
SPEAKER_00I was like, this is he had me fooled.
SPEAKER_01It was very bad of brothers-y, where I thought for a long, long time that um Damien Lewis was American?
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01Even though I had seen him already in Stormbreaker when I was a kid in like 2005, I assumed he was either Russian or American.
SPEAKER_00We can't claim Damien Lewis, no matter how much we want to.
SPEAKER_01He's great. He's ours. Thank you so much. Yeah. Could you talk to us about the training for rogue heroes? Like were they were they reaming you to get to like a certain level of fitness, or were they like you're fine as you are?
SPEAKER_00Is there, yeah, like is there a boot camp process? Because you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_03There was a there was a bit of a boot camp. A bit of a boot camp. From um from our um our military advisor, Bags, um, who runs bear arms and they supply oh yes, yeah, yeah. Uh um, you should talk to him, he's brilliant. But he um he's he's with us the whole way. He gives us, he fills us in on the history, he's a complete nerd for it, and he won't mind me saying, um, and we love him to bits, but um, he keeps us on the straight and narrow in terms of accuracy. Everyone on set, really. People ask him questions all the time. Um, but he ran us a training in the desert um of all sorts of physical stuff. Well, in fact, no, we did do so. We did the one in the desert, which was very physical, you know. We were carrying logs together up and over sand dunes, which was great for some good photos somewhere, and um drill drills and like at dawn. Um we needed something to do because you know, it was for quarantine for COVID, it was about a two-week period before we filmed.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so we just that's right, yeah, just boys at a hotel, you know.
SPEAKER_01So that's how you all became best best friends, is because you were stuck in a hotel together.
SPEAKER_03That's it.
SPEAKER_01Do you have a this is this can be very off the record. Do you have a specific best friend in the cast?
SPEAKER_03Oh, there's a c yeah, they know who they are. Yeah, it's it's everyone. Do you know what it is though? You just like the characters, everyone is so different. And so the traits that you might, you know, I guess some people, some people hang around together more than others because you they live near each other in London or whatever. Right, right. It's like um everyone, just like the characters, is so entirely different. Like, right, but we all get so so to if you think about the qualities of someone that I'd love, which I do, then the the qualities are not you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01They're all yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_03It's like who's your favorite Power Ranger? They're all great.
SPEAKER_00It was the pink one, thank you very much. They all bring they all bring something to the table. My 90s heart just went it was the OGs, obviously.
SPEAKER_03Of course the OGs, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I mean, obviously it's the gold one, but obviously, no, it was the pink one because that was what I was for Halloween when I was like four. Oh, that's pretty good. That's amazing. As I reveal my as I reveal my age, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh god, oh no, right, but no, it's it's no, I I do love them all for so many different reasons, yeah. And all the crew too. We've had crew, you know, that have been there just as long as us. In fact, you could argue longer because we turned up when all the pre-production was already done. So right, you know, like uh there's so many, so many brilliant guys, like oh for sure. So many.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, this question came to me in like a haze one night, but I was like, it's it's the truth. Like Jim Amunds and John Bennett are both such an important part of the war, and they're such a force, right? And in different, you know, two completely different capacities, neither one of them knows the other. Yeah, but you know, they're kind of calm and relaxed. I get the the sense, you know, obviously Jim Amunds is definitely more calm than uh Patty Main. You know, he's kind of the juxtaposition to Patty Main. And Bennett kind of came into the 100th bomb group at a time when they were shaken up, but they were all business, both of them. Do you feel like how did you feel getting to kind of uh pull into these two different but very important uh pieces of the war? Like you've obviously given life to them on screen. How do you how do you play that? Like how do you and how do you feel about that?
SPEAKER_01I feel like I just took this from super, super fun to like we're very serious, very business, but I think it's a very good, serious question because they are two very different people.
SPEAKER_00They are two very different people fighting the same war, but two completely different avenues.
SPEAKER_01But then again, Bennett was also a crazy bastard. Bennett was nuts, it was insane, he was mental. He's like, let me fly in every position on this B-17. I don't care if I get hit or or I jump.
SPEAKER_03He was yeah, he was he was something, wasn't he? And for for a lieutenant colonel as well, like yeah, yeah, unheard of well, maybe not unheard of, but I only researched him and a few of the bomber, but but yeah, he was uh he was they were both incredible, incredible people, and it's it's it's weird you should say that they're they're different because they are, but I always saw uh a similarity in them. Um that they no matter the stakes, they quietly just uh well, maybe not so quietly with Bennett, who knows? But but that they just they saw what was in front of them and they saw their men. Because by the by uh at this point, you know, Jim was a uh NCO and he was um I forget forget the term now, which military people will hate me for, but he moved into he could he could be in a position where it was more of an officer, do you know what I mean? And standing back. Like I mean, Bennett, Bennett's a lieutenant colonel, but each of them see the plight of the men under their command and without thinking about it, without without even a second guess for their own safety or whatever, obviously with careful planning too, but they would just just do it. They led by example and the bravery of them both. When when you could argue that that that their position didn't warrant that anymore, they might needed in these positions, you know. You can argue that Bennett should have been grounded because his his mind would have been put to great use, and if he got shot down, then you know we've lost a lieutenant colonel. But it's just yeah, they saw what needed to be done, and instead of waiting for someone else to do it, they did it, did it themselves, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I love I love that. That's amazing.
SPEAKER_03Really cool guys.
SPEAKER_01Did you have more scenes as Colonel Bennett that were cut? Was that was that all we were no, that was all? That was it?
SPEAKER_03No, that was it, yeah. No, that was it.
SPEAKER_01Love that, yes.
SPEAKER_03And do you know what? I yeah, and I went into um I went into Playtime when I was in LA um and and saw the guys, you know, um Spielberg's guys, you know, they were they were really they were really great, and um they um they were just like, do you know what Karen? We really liked your stuff. Um it's like you you should be proud that you you did because they had so many episodes, and I was just like blown away my first time in LA. And uh they were just like, honestly, so many people got cut. You don't even understand there's some people that spent weeks on there, and you never see them. And uh, but we loved your scenes, you did a great job. Oh and uh yeah, obviously, didn't name names and I didn't want to hear them, but as if of course that happens, you know, you you do some things, you know. That's just how it is, yeah. They were big American personalities, they were brilliant. Um but they were just like, Yeah, we loved your stuff, and uh nothing got and and he was right, you know, I've nothing got caught from any of the scenes. They were the full they were the full length as well, which is and I watched them and I was like That's very good. That's not great. Great dialogue working with Nate, Nate's plays with Rosenval.
SPEAKER_01That was actually my next question.
SPEAKER_00Was that you are both at the time you were both very unknown first starting out right how kind of new to this big like especially the World War II machine, right?
SPEAKER_01So how was that working with him? And and did you kind of bond over that fact that he had freshly graduated from Juilliard and you were just starting to get work?
SPEAKER_03I didn't even know he did, but uh yeah. No, we we we bonded over the things that uh lads always bond over, which is just anything, just anything at all. And the the whole yeah, and uh you know, yeah, I don't think we even spoke about it because again, my um uh our scenes were it was really efficient. I was only there for a week. I know some people have like because they because they because like a lot of people played bombers and uh gunners and such, right? They they didn't know where they were gonna use them, and like you know, we need you needed them there in the ensemble, but we me and Nate just had two contained scenes, and uh we did a little work, uh little rehearsal with D, the director. Um, and then we just yeah, just shot him. So we chatted away at lunch. Um, but I was only on set, I think three days, and yeah, great guys. It was funny actually because going into the masters um you know, on on the base, which they did an incredible job of turning turning it into the into the base, but um seeing their all those all those lads, their connection, the actors, yeah, just like we were just like just finished on rogues, and I was like, oh it's like you know, I didn't try and crowbar myself in it.
SPEAKER_02Reminds me of me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. I didn't try and crowbar myself in, but they were they were very nice to me. Um but I could see that you know they all gathered round laughing and joking in a circle because they've been yeah, so they've been together for a year, yeah. Exactly, yeah, yeah. Lads, lads, lads make friends very, very easily.
SPEAKER_01I wish I wish women did.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01We like we made friends really easily, Gabby and because we're we might be the exception, we might be the exception there.
SPEAKER_00But actually, um no, it's true. It's women are very to be very skittish sometimes, like you know, very much. Oh you know, you give it's it's it's not the like you know, you say two women and like oh I wish we'd be friends, like you know, women in a bathroom are like, oh, I love your dress. That's cool because you're drinking, right? You don't think much of it when you say something like that to somebody and they're sober, they're like, What do you mean by that? Girls can be very, very strange. What do you mean by that? Okay, I'm sorry, I just really like your dress.
SPEAKER_01Another thing I wanted to ask was how how has the experience of playing Jim has it changed you as a person or as an actor or the way that you go about approaching things?
SPEAKER_03Especially preceded and after a shoot in a season, I do kind of drop into his this calmness of mind and soul that he had. And uh I I well, I try to, I think some of my castmates will be like, No, you're still mad. But uh I I it's I don't know how it's changed. I think I think I've just learned on in terms of an acting perspective, I've just learned a lot more. Um as you as you can imagine, doing a major TV show, my first one, weeks on set, you know, months, and it's just taught me a lot in that regard. Um a little bit and it's still an ongoing process, but you know, self self-belief. In you know, when I first went on to the set, I these are all my heroes, uh people I've watched on TV who've done my dream, do you know what I mean? And and now I can call more friends, so it's it knowing that has let me fall into the calmness of Jim too, and having his family say that I did a good job really helps.
unknownOh yeah.
SPEAKER_03If they said I'd done a bad job or they wouldn't talk to me, then I'd be uh I'd be upset.
SPEAKER_01I'd be upset. I I'd be quiet. I will say that you I feel like you have, like you just said, adopted Armands' aura. Like I think I said this to Gabby very recently. I think we watched an interview of yours, I think it was during the waste man press, and I said that you had the same calmness and aura as you portray as Jim in the show. So that's when we were getting very excited to do this episode with you because I was like, this is gonna be as calm as Gentleman Jim. And you are, even though you're like, Yes, I'm still mad. You have like this, you have like this serenity about you and this calm like a slowness the same way that Jim does.
SPEAKER_00So you have adopted it. Absolutely. Do you feel like back to you know you said his family had said to you that they were very happy with the way you portrayed him? How did your research pro like what was your research for that? Because obviously now this is again a real person. So it's not like you can kind of say, Oh, I'm gonna do this or I'm gonna give it this kind of flair. You can't, you know, it's not a character, it's a a portrayal, so it's I guess a bit different.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00How did you go about kind of did they put you in touch with his family, or did it happen? Did you get like a packet or anything?
SPEAKER_03Like I forget how that happened first. I don't know how we first got in touch, but I I was there doing my own research. Um however, however, whatever came to me, I was like, yeah, let's let's try this as well. So I was making a full timeline of his of his life. Uh obviously I read I read his book, but then I also didn't want to read past season one because I was like, right, I don't want to spoil it for yourself. Yeah, I don't want to know things that Jim doesn't know. Um his his descriptions, and then I watched the the the only televised interviews, um, you know, the guys from in the 70s, right? And just got a sense of him then. Um and then I think I think his daughter got in touch with me first. Um and and yeah, that was that was that was great. She she sent me signed copies because she wrote the she wrote the book with her dad. Um so she gave me her copies and one on Jellico as well that she also wrote, who's a very cool guy. And um then his granddaughter, so her daughter was in touch, and then you know, his grand his great-grandsons, you know, they ended up being up being they ended up being in the show, you know. That was it his yeah, yeah, yeah. His so from Jim's granddaughter, uh, she got in touch with me on uh on Instagram and was talking to about uh that his sons, uh his great-grandsons, Caleb and Jonah, they're 18 and 19, and could they be involved in the show? And uh yeah, I spoke to the producer and we all we got it sorted anyway. And so they were on the boat over to Sicily, and the it might have been the boat back, but their essays, yeah, playing playing soldiers.
SPEAKER_01Um oh my god, that's amazing! That's so cool. So cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I got a cracking photo. Us three, sorry, yeah, really nice. We were down in we were down in Kent at the at the docks there. I forget.
SPEAKER_01That's amazing.
SPEAKER_03But it was it was brilliant, so cool, so cool. So cool. I love that. Yeah, yeah, I loved it. That was a really special moment. Wow, I bet and then research. Oh god, I remember I drove down to his. I actually think the family still might live there, so I drove down to Stixwald in Lincolnshire, where oh Jesus, yeah, where he was the house. I found the house. I just stood there and put my hand onto the uh the brickwork of the outer wall, like, yes, this is you know, I like must have drank in that pub, must have done this in there.
SPEAKER_02That's nice, though.
SPEAKER_03And then I made a diary because he was big, he was a big diary guy, so I got this lovely leather bound. I actually found it again the other day, and I just started and I got a fountain pen. And I was like okay.
SPEAKER_01Breaking news, Corin Silver is a method actor. Yeah, well, yeah. That's that's really sweet though. I like that. I would do that though, if I ever got into it. I like that. That's really really sweet.
SPEAKER_03I already love I I've made a playlist and I I already love the music of the time, so yeah, I've got a what's on the what's on the playlist? Oh, all sorts.
SPEAKER_01I mean can we have it? It's added to our library, thanks.
SPEAKER_03I I'll send it to you. Yeah, yes, please. Yeah, I've got I've got it's on on Spotify. It's um yes, nice, some beautiful tracks. Please do that. Mostly of era. Don't cut don't people kind of come at me if they listen to it and say, This is from 52, but I'm like, I don't know, it's fine. It works.
SPEAKER_01I think it's one of the things that initially watching Rogue Heroes was quite jarring because you go into it watching a show about World War II and you think, oh, it's gonna be music of the era. And then we clocked on that it was Stephen Knight, and then we went, that ain't happening.
SPEAKER_00That ain't happening. I don't know, for some reason it didn't hit me at first that it was Stephen Knight. And I might have been like, you know, the the credits are playing at the beginning, and like, you know, you're getting yourself ready to sit down and get comfortable and watch it. You've got the little drumbeat right now to go get a drum. It didn't really click right away, and then I was watching and I went, I said, Oh my god, I said, What'd this guy take a page out of Stephen Knight's book? I thought it's like Pinkie Fonders, and then I'm like, oh shit, it is him.
SPEAKER_01Oh shit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's great. I love I love it. Yeah, you it works really, really well.
SPEAKER_00It does work, and he knows how to make it work without like Stephen Knight's very good, like that, where he knows how to make it work without compromising the integrity of the story he's trying to tell. Like he doesn't take away from like, you know, it's the 40s, it's the war. Yes, it is, but you know, here, have a little Metallica, have a little, you know.
SPEAKER_01Have a little ACDC.
SPEAKER_00Have a little ACDC, have a little Metallica. It works, but it's still, you know, still wartime America, wartime Europe, whatever it is.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the sentiment remains, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01It's like uh yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_03But I think the sentiment of Jim was much more, you know.
SPEAKER_01Oh, for sure. Was more soft and more of the hairs, yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's it's it's really what you're saying about you know that Jim is um rubbed off on me, and you know, um I presented as you see I see him calm. Uh but I think it's it's no more than more than that, it's just that he has oh he's honestly when I read more and and I take him more into me, it's like he just brings out better parts of myself. Do you know what I mean? Oh, for sure. He he yeah, and and then it's it's it's beautiful, it's it's great.
SPEAKER_00It really is. That is great. I love the softness of him, especially during the war. You don't get many softer guys during the war. He also strikes me very much as like he's Patty's conscience almost. His kind of Jiminy Cricket in a way. Oh, he is! That's amazing. Because Jiminy Cricket's my favorite.
SPEAKER_02Jiminy Cricket's good.
SPEAKER_00Jiminy Cricket's great, but that's kind of the vibe I get from him in that sense. And it's nice to see that you know, war hasn't completely ripped the humanity from him, and you play that so well, too.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's what I think with Jim. It's like he always had faith, and and it's not, you know, he was devout Christian, but it's not specifically religious faith that I'm talking about. It's like he had faith in in humanity, in people, you know what I mean? And he as much as and you know, and on top of that, opposed to that, he's a highly effective soldier in a world war.
SPEAKER_02Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_03So he in for him to be carrying both of these, you know, beliefs, these, both of these, both of these concepts in him at all times, he's like superhuman. Do you know what I mean? It's he's it's something he can't even comprehend. And I try to, you know, he tried to, I don't know. I don't know why I tried to do, but it it's always it's always amazed me that he can never and he never let his humanity slip, his his belief in people, do you know what I mean? He was never overtly cruel, he was never, yeah, he kept it.
SPEAKER_01He's never mean, he was a gentleman, yeah, all the time and yeah, hence the so briquet. Yeah, I love what you've done with him, and I I especially love there's there's certain scenes where Jim is uh giving some life advice to Patty, usually, and you pause, and it's so uh calming. There's a specific scene where I think it's where Jim gives Patty a Bible, I know it by heart, go and read it, and it's the way that you pause and take it out with purpose and you give it to him. He doesn't take it, but you give it and you're very calm and serene with him. It's lovely, it's great to watch, especially like during the big moments and before the big battle scenes where you're the calming force of all of these guys, and Jim is the calming force of all of them, just through a Bible or just through his personality and how he was. You've done a beautiful job, it's it's incredible. There's a reason I re-watch all the time, yeah. And one of the reasons is you because it's that good, and I love it. My second reason is I love Tonkin because I think he's so funny and I think he's great. That's my second reason.
SPEAKER_03Um but the main reason is Jack I'm getting bad at them.
SPEAKER_01I would love to. Here's the thing I would love to, but he doesn't answer his Instagram messages. No, he doesn't because he's never on there.
SPEAKER_03No, he's not.
SPEAKER_01So I've tried my best. Alas, maybe you could put in a good word for us.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I was talking to this the other day.
SPEAKER_01Oh to wrap up, what is next for you, Corin? We know that Waste Man has already been released. I think betrayals on iPlayer, so everyone in the US, get a VPN. Wink wink. There you go. What comes next apart from season three of Ray Heroes?
SPEAKER_03Um released wise. Uh well it well, I've got I've got another thing coming out uh at the cinema soon. I don't know if I'm allowed. I probably haven't. It's a DC thing, the big DC thing. Yeah, quiet. What is it? Well, there you go. You won't you won't recognize me in it. Um it's switches it's fun.
SPEAKER_01What movie, Corey?
SPEAKER_03Nah you'll see, but um, yeah, definitely definitely watch Waste Man in if if people in the States are watching, and then other than that, as I say, I've just written, directed, produced my first short film in this whilst I renovator's house. So that's been fun. And I also have written a feature film, different one, um, which is in the process of yeah, we're in the process, yeah. Putting that together.
SPEAKER_01Busy, busy boy, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So he's busy, guys. Keep your eyes peeled.
SPEAKER_01Have you noticed he didn't say Bond? Do you know who the next Bond is? Oh, he didn't say Bond, no. Are you the next Bond?
SPEAKER_03That wouldn't be much secret agent of me, would it? No, that was that's bad, that's some bad grammar. That would not be very covert, covert of me.
SPEAKER_00No, it wouldn't be very 007 of you to tell us, would it? No, it wouldn't.
SPEAKER_03I'd be bumped straight down to 002.
SPEAKER_01Double O three and a half.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's what you'd get. You get the coffees for the other double O's.
SPEAKER_01Lovely. Oh my god. Um well thank you, Corinne, so much for doing this with us. We had so we had a smash in time. This has been so fun, and I'm so glad we got to do this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, me too. Yeah, it's great. Really nice talking to you guys.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it was great talking to you.
SPEAKER_03Thank you for the kind words.
SPEAKER_00I just uh we mean we mean it we do mean it. We do mean everything we say. We're not, you know, we're not we're really not here just to blow smoke, I promise.
SPEAKER_03No, of course we're not. Yeah, I know, yeah. You could could have said more nice things if you were, but you know, just exactly one or two, one or two. One or two things.
SPEAKER_01It's one or two. Well, thank you. Thank you so much, everyone, for joining us. Yes.
SPEAKER_00We will see you next time. See you guys soon.
unknownBye.
SPEAKER_00Bye bye.
