SPEAKER_00

Welcome to Cliffhangers and Cocktails Podcast with Amy Sissel. Oh, that's me, and my friend's fabulous co-host, Shana Clay. Woohoo! That's me! We are USA Today best-selling authors of Paranormal Women's Fiction, among other things. And today's podcast is brought to you as always by the Captain Kevin.

SPEAKER_02

Today's episode is another mini sode where we discuss a single topic relating to the craft, whether it be craft cocktails, witchcraft, or writing craft. These will be great to listen to, you know, when you don't have a lot of time for a full podcast or you want specific information on a particular topic. And today's topic is the blue moon. Amy.

SPEAKER_00

Ooh, that's rare.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Like once in a now, Amy, what is the blue moon? And when is it?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, so glad you asked. Oh, okay. So the blue moon is in a couple of days. For you, it will be the most bluest and fullest at 1.45 a.m. on the 31st. And for me, it will be at 9.45 a.m. on the 31st. So that is exactly eight hours apart when we were having our culmination.

SPEAKER_02

Oh well, that's shocking because did you know that we're eight hours apart from Portland to Porto? We did not.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So the blue moon, as we understand it in this day and age, is the second full moon in a calendar month. And it happens about every two and a half years. Because the moon cycle is about 29 and a half days. So every once in a while you're gonna get a couple of them in the same month. Also, before we started attributing it to two full moons in a single calendar month, it would be when you had two full moons in a season. Um so uh with the season being from winter solstice to winter solstice, so every once in a while you are gonna get 13 moons in that single cycle as well. Yeah. Um, regardless of how the full, because it's not every 28 days, it's every 29 and a half.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, something weird.

SPEAKER_00

But um, yeah, but so it used to be if you had two in a single season, so if you had two between the equinox and the solstice, for instance, that would be the second one would be the or the fourth one would be the blue moon, if you had or whatever. You know what? I am not an astronomer, so there. I will be after I finish my medieval botany degree. Then I will go do ancient astronomy.

SPEAKER_02

Excellent. So if you happen to be an ancient astronomer or know about ancient astronomy, let us know.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, you can be an also medieval botanist. Welcome.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so because the blue moon is is the second full moon in a month, that means the first blue moon has already had its chance to do its ordinary full moon magic. Yes. So you've had that initial energy of the full moon happen, it's gone by, and uh so the blue moon energy though is it's not louder, it's more concentrated. Okay. It's like it's like just it's it can get in there. It asks you to look at what the first full moon illuminated. Oh then sit with it longer before this cycle ends.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So it's a really good time for spiritual realignments, for emotional clarity, and for the amplification, quiet amplification of what came to you at the beginning of the month.

SPEAKER_02

Ah.

SPEAKER_00

And uh, so this particular blue moon also is a micro moon. So the moon is it's at its further, it's like the opposite of a supermoon. The moon is as far away from Earth in its orbit as it can be. So it's teeny tiny moon. Yeah, super moon can be larger and more amplification. A micro moon is a little smaller and it's quieter. So this energy is it's a good time for that interior work. For looking at what's going on in yourself, it's the subtle changes, but it's subtle but powerful transformation.

SPEAKER_02

That's interesting. So, like if during the the first full moon of of the month, perhaps something was brought up that you have this block, inner block, a mindset block. Then this blue moon is a time that says, okay, you need to look at this and kind of deal with this now.

SPEAKER_00

Right. And well, the first full moon of May was uh in Scorpio.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

So that's a time of like big, big fiery changes, right? Like this is the time to light shit on fire and make some noise. And it also happened at Bell Tame.

unknown

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

So it's it was a huge transformative moon.

SPEAKER_02

There was a lot of energy going on, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then this full moon, the blue moon, is in Sagittarius. So that's like expansion and freedom and higher purpose. So all that big fiery energy that came out at the beginning of the month. Now you can take that and kind of sit with it and then amplify it and work towards it gives you the wisdom to do what um transpired at the beginning of the month. All that stuff that needed to change at the beginning of the month. This will give you the wisdom and that little bit of quiet to make it all happen.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, I love that.

SPEAKER_00

And I mean, Sagittarius is the archer, right? So um the archer aims towards the horizon, towards meaning, adventure, and truth. So you're looking at your inner truth, your philosophy, your belief system, and how to align that and realign it with where you're at and what changes may have come at the beginning of this month with that Beltane and Scorpio moon energy.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, that's wild. I love that.

SPEAKER_00

We're in Gemini now. Yeah. So we're having some of that Gemini energy coming in with all of this, too. So this year is kind of a big year, I think, um, astrologically, astronomically, yeah. Both, because we've had, you know, Moonjoy and Artemis. We've just the year of the fire horse. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um a lot of four will forward momentum, a lot of awakening, a lot of like power, and I'm seeing more and more women awake to their power and be like, Well, I'm tired of this bullshit. I guess I'm a witch now. Like, babes, you were always a witch.

SPEAKER_00

Neptune left uh Pisces. Yeah. So Neptune is the is the ruling planet of Pisces, and that's our big dreamer energy. And it's moved, it's moved into Aries. And we've talked about Aries. Aries is not big dreamer energy. No, no, no. So having Neptune move into Aries means it's time to take those next steps from that watery kind of go with the flow and me to let's light shit on fire, bitches.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I am I I've been feeling that, like this whole light shit on fire thing, definitely. I don't know if that's perimenopause or if it's a blue moon in Aries or whatever, but Blue Moon and Sagittarius.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the moon in Aries. The sky is skying.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I definitely felt the increased energy and the motivation to start the new projects here because um, you know, we we kind of did a little reading. Well, we did a reading at Bellane, a private reading with our other Coven member Sam. We did like a little private reading, we pulled our own cards, and so a lot of interesting stuff came up. And then was it a day or two later we did a like a sort of like a I know you did a three-card draw. I did a three-card draw. Uh Sam did a more complicated draw that was really cool.

SPEAKER_00

Sam is more awesome and more complicated than we are. She very much. She really the one that holds this people together. She just doesn't get to be here to talk shit about it. Talk shit about it. We're like, shoot the shit about it. Here we go.

SPEAKER_02

There we go. Um, and she's an Aries. So she's and we're both Aquarians. So No. No, I'm Aquarian and you're Pisces. But we're both February.

SPEAKER_00

We're just like boom boom.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we're like, yeah. So um, but it was so funny because the the draw I did, you know, was like, hey, you're gonna have a big idea, and it's coming real soon. And you need to wake the shit up and don't put it on the back burner saying you've got too much going right now. You need to fucking do it. That was literally what my cards were saying. And so literally, what was it the very next day, or it was within 24 hours, I'm sure of it. It was the next day or the day after. Sometimes, yeah. Certainly within like 48 hours. But it was, yeah, it was like really all of a sudden, boom. This idea came to me, and it was a little more dreamy, like Neptune, than it was full-on boom lighting on fire. But I definitely felt the fire like under my backside from Aries, going, yeah, you need to move your butt and do this. So I've actually been working on that project now, alongside other other projects which need to be done. But I've definitely been putting some focus on it, and it as it's unfurling, it's like it's amazing, and I'm really excited about it. But yeah, let me tell you.

SPEAKER_00

But I got I got the whole hold on to your witches. Like, I got the three of cups, which is my very personal. You will hear about this next week when we talk about we talk to Del about the Three of Cups and Tarot in general. But this is a very personal card for me too, because it really symbolizes female friendships and female community, um that feminine energy. And that's the one that I kept I've been pulling now lately. And it's awesome because it's my favorite card.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Um and it's really just reinforcing that. And I got that too, that like part of what will help me get through this and help me avoid burnout, because I'm like, oh my gosh, I have all of these things and I want to do all of them all at once. Um, that's just my go-to. Let's that's me. What will get me through it? I mean, the cards were very clear again, was sisterhood. It was like, hold on. It wasn't the th it wasn't the three of cups, but it was a card that was very much about like spending time with your people, specifically your women people, and like draw strength from them. Get away, get out there and like and that and that was like right after we'd had our Beltane thing and everything, right after like we'd interviewed Del and all that stuff. And so I was like, wow, this is like super on point right now. Um, so yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it because the blue moon is pretty rare every two and a half years or so, any intentions set and releases performed during this light carry extra potency. So the energy from this blue moon, you should it won't happen again until 2028.

SPEAKER_02

So the super blue blood moon, and this is apparently very rare, coinciding with a total lunar eclipse and perigee will occur on December 31st, 2028. This lunar event falls on New Year's Eve, meaning the moon will appear larger than usual and take a distinct red hue as it passes through Earth's shadow.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I know where I'll be. I will be uh live casting it from my balcony.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, yes, yes, please.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, you guys have two and a half years to decide that you're spending New Year's Eve with us on our live stream. Yes. You don't have to do that. I probably won't do that. I I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

I don't well I mean, but we might record the moon, but like we'll we'll make sure to put it up for posterity.

unknown

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um so heightened energies can amplify emotions and intentions, and it can vary a little bit from sun sign to sun sign. So or star sign to star sign. Whatever, you know what I mean. Yep, yep, yep, yep. Um, so I have, and I'll put this list um on our Instagram, but I have like a little bit of uh one-liner for each horoscope sign. And I'm only gonna go through three. Um, we're gonna do Aquarius. Uh-huh. Uh it can amplify your emotions and intentions around social connections. Okay. And it's a good time for humanitarian efforts. Okay, excellent. Right on. For Pisces, it's a spiritual awakening and a time to embrace intuition. Ooh. That feels on point. And then for Aries, increased energy and motivation to start new projects. So we'll have to let Sam know. We'll have to.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and see what her her latest projects are. I I know she's like revamping all kinds of things.

SPEAKER_00

So I will tell my daughter as well. She's an Aries. But I have a few fun facts and superstitions. Oh. You know me, I love fun facts. Um, in some traditions, also recognize a black moon, which is the 13th new moon in a calendar or seasonal year. Oh, okay. Um and but also a black moon can mean a month without a full moon, which happens in February every couple of decades. Because February is 28 days most years. And so if the moon cycle is 29 and a half days, that means that there are some years that will have two monthly blue moons. Right. So it'll have a blue moon in January and in March, and no full moons in February. So the next time that happens is 2037. It's really rare, it's like every 20 years or so. Um, and what that means is there was one a couple few years ago and I didn't know about it, and now I'm super bummed. Yeah. That I didn't even pay attention. I'm bummed too. It does sound good. But um, so 2037, you know, come be here with us in the pod. Mm-hmm. Because we'll still be doing this pod.

SPEAKER_02

Or whatever, you know, in 11 years old. You know, 11 years from now, it could be like we could be holograms doing the pod. Like, you know, like we could be holograms doing the pod.

SPEAKER_00

I'm a hologram.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

So gazing at a blue moon is said to bring abundance and good fortune. Oh, well, I'm gonna go gaze at that blue moon. Wait, don't do it yet. Oh well, first of all, you can't because it's not for a couple more days. Well, yeah. But also, it can sometimes be believed that if any stray lights of the moon, of the blue moon stream onto your sleeping body, it will impart lunacy. Oh, well, that boat's that boat's already sailed, so we're fine. Also, looking at a blue moon through any type of glass, including spectacles, can give you bad luck for 30 days. So if you're gonna go gaze at the blue moon for your abundance and good fortune, make sure you take your glasses off and don't fall asleep. Okay, I won't. Um, it's also it's believed to be an auspicious time to communicate with your ancestors. Okay. Um, it's if you turn a coin over in your pocket during the blue moon, it's a traditional good luck charm. And I saw that that is pretty consistent throughout like Wales and Ireland and England. Interesting. That's what I think. Herbs, berries, or flowers during a blue moon can heighten their magical and medicinal potency. So if you're doing any kind of witchcraft or spells, herb work, um, you're making some magical cocktails, bring your herbs and berries and flowers for it, it now is a great time. Um, go do it on Saturday. Um, and according to some Welsh traditions, if a member of your family dies during a blue moon, three more family members will die shortly. Well, that's a bit grim. That's why I ended with that one. Excellent. So if you're picking those magical herbs, yeah, be careful. Just make sure that if you're picking those kind of magical herbs for those kind of potions, you gotta be careful with that because if somebody in your family dies from your magical herbs, three more people are gonna die and you might not get to pick up who they are. Be careful. Be careful.

SPEAKER_02

Blue moon responsibly.

SPEAKER_00

That's exactly right.

SPEAKER_02

So, what are some full moon observances that we as witches can make or do?

SPEAKER_00

The full moon, um, always, every full moon, symbolizes completion. It's the end of the end of the cycle of the moon cycle. So it's completion, it's enlightenment, it's the height of power. So it's a time of celebration, gratitude, fullness, and letting go of that which weigh us down. The full moon is a source of power and wisdom and inspiration. And so um you can observe the full moon by meditating in the moonlight on what you might need to release. It's the perfect time to cleanse and charge your crystals. Um, and this is true every full moon, it's deeply restorative and effective at cleansing away negative energies. So if you recently saw our episode where we talked about with Jasmine Payne on amulets and things like that, and we talked about um cleansing and charging your amulets and crystals, this is the time you should be doing it. Yeah. Like get that stuff out there in the moonlight because this, I mean, it's the full moon, but it's also the blue moon, so it's a little extra power for you for that cleansing. So if you have stuff that's been absorbing that negative energy, get it outside. It's not bad luck for the moon to look at your wraps. No. It's also great times moonwater?

SPEAKER_02

You know, I haven't. That was I was just gonna ask you about that. Um, I haven't done it. I have a few friends that have done it and have gifted me um moonwater, but I was thinking about doing it. It would be interesting to to use that moon water to create like a simple syrup for cocktails.

SPEAKER_00

Or that's a brilliant idea.

SPEAKER_02

I I just thought of that. Like, um, so I'm thinking about putting out some uh, you know, a j now that I have more jars, um putting out a jar of water to charge in the moonlight, and then uh like turn yeah, turning it into a simple syrup. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And if you were looking at some kind because of the power um and the energy and how it can be such a great energy for cleansing and charging and protection, like using it to create some kind of syrup or liqueur that had some of those protective energies in it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, absolutely. There's a I love to make a um a version of a lemon drop for cleansing. Uh Julia Helena Hidas. Okay, so in her magical cocktail book, she has a an in bulk lemon drop that's for cleansing. And I've taken that recipe and tweaked it to my own that's for like cleansing and protection, and a little bit of uh abundance attraction, and that would be perfect to add the blue moon energy too. I'm gonna make some kind of gin thing.

SPEAKER_00

Gin is is my patron liquor. Um also gin has a lot of protective properties. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so we're meditating, we're cleansing, we're collecting moon water. What else?

SPEAKER_00

We're celebrating the divine feminine. I love it. We are doing a re release, releasing and letting go of things. And I have a little bit of a blue moon release ritual. You know me, I love a ritual. You do love a ritual, yes. So for this one, you need a white candle, um, which are finally. I'm I'm always like, you need this color candle, which is like white will be fine. I'm like, no. Um white is fine. But this time you need a white candle. Okay. Um, some incense, Frank incense is a great incense. Um, it's great for protection, but you know, again, whatever is vibing with you or that you have on hand. Um, crystal with protection powers, black tourmaline is my go-to, but there's plenty of others. Uh small piece of paper and a pen. A fireproof bowl or cauldron. I really need a cauldron.

SPEAKER_02

I know. I have inherited your old cauldron and I love it.

SPEAKER_00

It was very heavy. It was very good. And then something to set fires with. Actually, so the first thing I do is you want to like shower or bathe, cleanse yourself, cleanse your spirit. And we've talked a little bit about that as a ritual in itself. And then light your incense to cleanse your space. Because you want to go into this with like neutral, cleansed energy. You don't want to bring too much into this. Right. Um, and then write as concisely as possible what you want to release. Be very specific, not just like, I want to release badness. No, but what specifically be honest with yourself and write it down. Don't worry, no one else is gonna see this. You don't have to show us. We're not, this isn't a show and talk. It's not that kind of homework. It is not. And then fold your paper as many times as speaks to you, light your candle, hold your protection crystal in one hand, and then visualize what you're gonna be releasing. The crystal is gonna absorb it. You are releasing it into the crystal. Have your paper, you're gonna light your paper on fire, and then place it into your fireproof bowl or cauldron.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

And then leave your crystal out under the full moon to cleanse it and charge it and take what you put into it. It's very it's very simple. I love it. And you can do as much or as little of that as works for you. Um, but at Something I'm planning on doing to celebrate is just letting go of some stuff that's been a crazy couple years over here in Anyland. And I've got some stuff that needs to just go wet. And this seems like a good time to turn some corners, some transformative corners, and let some stuff go back out to the universe.

SPEAKER_02

And I will say, I I would think that so the incense is being used for cleansing. So if I have issues with smoke, uh, any kind of smoke, which is why I stopped saning. I I don't I no longer well occasionally I do, but uh not very often. I have to make sure I'm not in a in a bad place with my asthma. But what I have done is just simply do a salt water solution in a spray bottle and spray like a fine mist so you're not soaking everything around the room, around myself. Well, you're we're already doing the which ritual shower bath, so that's that's done. But like cleansing the space, I've been doing that, or even also like cinnamon. If you have cinnamon or peppermint uh essential oil, that also kind of works. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Do as much or as little as works for you in your particular circumstance. Yeah. Um, and thank you, Shaya, for saying that about asthma. It's not something that I uh deal with, so it didn't even occur to me. I didn't used to, but I do have so that's that's it. So go out there and like recharge.

SPEAKER_02

I love this. Um I'm gonna actually put this in my calendar so I actually remember. So, Amy, I see here and I drink here a cocktail recipe.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, it's way bigger than my ball. Like, mine melted all the way down, and now I have partly moon here.

unknown

Yeah, I think it's a big one.

SPEAKER_00

Also, you make a better glass for it than I did. Oh, so this is a blue moon margarita, and it's not just about me being sad that Shay has got bigger balls than me. Um and that my room job is poor. It'll be better when you find find the YouTube short about how this works. But this is the blue moon margarita. And the energy here is energy, purification and protection. Um, tequila has a lot of energy that comes with it. So this drink is bringing a lot of extra energy into your life. The purification and the protection come from both the tequila that's in it, but um also the orange liquor. So the and the wine juice. It's all very cleansing and protecting and purifying. So I made blue tequila, and I made Shea make blue tequila too, because that's the kind of friend I am. And it's it was just I took some tequila and I put it in a jar, and then I added some um butterfly, butterfly pea flowers, and you used tea bags, yeah?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, butterfly flour tea bags, which I made sure to check that the only ingredient in the tea was butterfly pea flour.

SPEAKER_00

It's so and I just used loose flowers, so steamsies. Mm-hmm. Um, and I left mine for overnight, so probably something like 16 hours. You didn't leave yours that long.

SPEAKER_02

No, I put it, I want to say it was maybe four-ish, four or five hours, something like that. And I was gonna leave it in longer, but then I looked at it and went, whoa, Nelly, that's dark. Because I used two teabags, um, it was difficult to tell uh how much I should put in. So I just went ahead with two teabags, and that was enough.

SPEAKER_00

And it just made it'll turn it like a purple, like an indigo. Well, is it indigo?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it was a dark and like indigo. I mean, it was indigo.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um mine was as well. Mm-hmm. But then when you add the citrus, it turns purple. Yours became a beautiful lavender, and mine is lighter lavender. But part of it might just be concentration and glass size, because mine, my martini glass obviously goes down in a point, so it's not right concentrated. But also, if you're if your tequila, and I made some purple gin too, for funsies. Um, but if you're tequila or your gin, if it's looking too purple and you want to make it a little more blue, this is a thing that I learned today. Um, you can add just like take a little toothpick and some baking soda and just drop in a little toothpick of it, and then swish it around, and then do that over and over until you get the blue color that you want.

SPEAKER_02

So you're naked.

SPEAKER_00

Ah. The minute you add citrus, it this is a color-changing thing. Right. And you can go um look over at our YouTube shorts probably next week and find a color-changing liquor video.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, the only way I mean, I think there's two ways you could make it without the color changing. One, of course, is chemical dyes that are food grade. Um, we have uh chosen not to do our best to use natural food dyes whenever possible. Um, and so hence the pea flower rather than just grabbing a bottle of you know of blue dye. Um, the other way, of course, is I believe blue spirulina does not change color. Is that correct? It does not. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Um, and next week you can see a blue cocktail that I made that has blue carousel that I made myself with blue um spirulina.

SPEAKER_02

Sometime with the spirulina, I made the carousel with the spirulina. So cool. Yeah, because the you did make it at one point, you made it with green spirulina.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I just yeah, I bought spirulina and I didn't realize I had to specify blue. Oh, but it was such a pretty color still, though. It was so pretty.

SPEAKER_02

But it was not electric lemonade blue that I was expecting. Yeah. So um, so yeah, you can make, but I happen to have the pea flowers, and honestly, mine turned when I made it into the cocktail, it was just this pretty, I would it was like midnight purple. Like, I mean, it was just that deep, dark midnight purple. So it wasn't blue, but it was still gorgeous, and it tastes amazing. If you love, if you love a margarita, I think you will be very pleased.

SPEAKER_00

And the ski flowers will not add any flavor to your tequila. It's a very strong spirit tequila, and as is the gin that I added it to, so it's not gonna, it's not gonna interfere with the flavor of your base liquor. Um, and then I have the orange liqueur that I made, um, lime juice, and that's what makes the color change. Yeah. Um, and I did a spirulina salt, a blue salt to rim it, but it didn't, I didn't do a very good job. I'm usually sometimes I'm like 50-50 on whether or not I can create a good salt or sugar rim on a glass, and I failed with this one. Well, I didn't attempt it. Well, you don't like a salt rim.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I don't like a salt rim. I could have tried a sugar rim because I often will order a sugar rim with tequila with a margarita, and they'll look at me like I've lost my mind, but they do it. So I thought about it, but then I was kind of like in a hurry. So I'm like, yeah, maybe some other time. I'll give it a go.

SPEAKER_00

My blue salt looks so pretty. Ooh. Um, salt. I have a picture of the blue salt that you'll get to see on our social media that I made. And I did make it with Sperolina, and it's so beautiful and bright blue. Um, and then I have in the recipe a fancy giant ice sphere. And my ice sphere is now a tiny cratered asteroid, whereas she is still a giant ice sphere. And I have an ice sphere jealousy.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just gonna guess that it's because um uh I bought the um the mold off of Amazon and it was uh they're pretty they're pretty big. It's probably it's probably just a bigger sphere to begin with. And then of course, because it's in a coupe coop glass, like half of it's well, not anymore, but part of it's actually literally poking up above the glass, so it's not gonna melt as fast.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I'm gonna go remake this drink after we're done recording, and I'm gonna make it in a coupe glass with my ice sphere and see if it looks the same.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it might be. Maybe we ours are the same, and it's just the glass. I don't know. Maybe. Maybe I do have bigger bowls.

SPEAKER_00

Well, do you have any moon words that you want to say? Where it's we're just any moon words. It's a moon joy.

SPEAKER_02

Um, I I you know what? I don't really have any moon words other than um, you know, um, just don't forget that one of the things that women have trouble with is self-care. And I don't mean going and getting your nails done at the salon. I mean, although that can be self-care, but like I mean true self-care. That rest is as is important, that rest is productive, that we're allowed to have boundaries, we're allowed to re to have something for ourselves, right? Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Women's to maintain your space.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Women spend so much time. Yes, it's not selfish to need something for yourself. We spend our whole lives supporting husbands or partners, children or grandchildren or nieces or nephew, or whoever, the people in our lives, whatever those whatever relationship those people have. And it's always like give, give, give, and usually far more give than take.

SPEAKER_00

And and it's not even take to have your boundaries and yeah, it isn't. That's not even taking, that's just being. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's this is being a human. That is just being a human, and and it's so important to rediscover those if you've lost them and reclaim them because you are a human person with a human heart and a human mind, and you deserve rest, you deserve to have your boundaries respected, you deserve to enjoy life and to have something for yourself that fills your personal well.

SPEAKER_00

That's what I mean how are we gonna overthrow the patriarchy if we don't have the energy to do it?

SPEAKER_02

A hundred percent. Like, and that's why, like, I've been reading so many interesting articles and things f about diet culture and how diet that every time that there is a movement toward female empowerment that the patriarchy comes up with suddenly heroin chic is back in. If you notice right now, more and more actresses have been losing weight and looking more and more uh emaciated. And that's because And we're not here to body shame nobody. Not here to body shame. But here's the thing when when when you're busy focusing on diet culture, you're not busy focusing on things that can upset the patriarchy. When you've starved yourself, you're weak physically and mentally, and therefore you don't have the energy to do anything to upset the patriarchy. So it's just something to think about. It was really eye-opening for me.

SPEAKER_00

Emily and Amelia Nagaski have written a book called Burnout, which is the secret to unlocking the stress cycle. And it's specifically aimed at women, and they specify anybody who identifies as a woman, regardless. But they do say that some of their science is based on what science is available. So women who are identified at birth is where a lot of the science might come from. But this is about women in the science of thriving in a stressed-out world, and they talk about the bikini industrial complex.

SPEAKER_01

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

And that's what they call this whole diet culture. And also, if you look at Sonia Renee Taylor, um, The Body is not an apology, these are great non non-fiction books. If you are looking at how diet culture and how the world at large is kind of there to keep women quiet. Yes. Small. And these are their place.

SPEAKER_02

I use the quotes. In your place, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But I think you can look at, you can read these. I I have them both on audiobook. I think they're wonderful listens. And being able to read these, listen to these books, and really look at the cycle of overwhelming exhaustion, how the bikini industrial complex, how how we're being forced to apologize for our bodies and the space that we take up from a very young age, those are great books for kind of being able to identify stuff like that. Oh, yes. At the end of the day, we are what needs we are the ones who are gonna go forward and make these changes. Right.

SPEAKER_02

For the women who come behind us.

SPEAKER_00

So that we can help other people do that.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And rest is productive, boundaries are healthy, slowing down strengthens you. Balance creates sustainable growth, and we need you all rested and confident and ready to go. Because we're making some changes. Take up your space. Ooh. This feminine energy, this blue moon, this is an opportunity.

SPEAKER_02

It is to recalibrate. You know what my my favorite season is, Amy? Matriarchy season. My favorite season is the fall of the patriarchy, and that's followed closely by the matriarchy season. Yes, indeed.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. You were making a joke, and I didn't go with it right, and I'm sorry. You want to do it again so it sounds cooler? Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Amy, do you know what my favorite season is? I don't actually, Shaya. What is your favorite season? My favorite season is the follow the patriarchy. Oh, that's my favorite too. There's there's another thing I love to do, and I think this this is a great idea for any woman out there who is struggling to take up their own space and struggling to with this whole concept, right? I'm stumbling. My algorithm in Instagram is drunk. It is bizarre. Struggling to keep up with me.

SPEAKER_00

All cocktail videos.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Well, there's cocktails, and there's K-dramas, and there's matriarchal stuff, and there's witch stuff, and there's vintage stuff, and there's book stuff. And so one of the things lately uh I stumbled across, and I think I shared it with you, a young woman who she dresses in these completely bonkers outfits to take up space. She wears what she likes, and she deliberately chooses her outfits to be a bit outlandish to take up space. And she always ends by smacking her own butt. And which I think is hilarious. She's amazing. Uh, this woman is probably in her 30s, I I would say. And I'm like, yes, girl, like you have got this. I wish I had this at your age. Like, I wish I had got there, right? But now I'm finding more and more women who are 50 plus, because I'm 50 plus, who are doing the same thing. They're there, I think it's like when you turn 50, you can either you can choose two paths. You can go beige or you can say fuck the patriarchy and wear what you want and take up space. And these women, they they post pictures of what they're wearing. And like it's it's it's out there, it's colorful, it's beautiful, it's fabulous. I'm kind of trapped a little bit in I feel trapped in my clothing options because I have to dress for comfort because of chronic pain, or I choose to dress for comfort because of chronic pain. I literally have certain p types of clothing just to put too much liter actual literal pressure on my body. Again, patriarchy. As you can see, uh my caftans are colorful. I don't go out very often, but when I do, am I taking up space? Am I taking up my space? If you can find those types of Instagram or TikTok or whatever, uh where these are women talking about taking up space and dressing to take up space, follow them. It's so encouraging. Like it's so well Yeah. Inspirational.

SPEAKER_00

And it's your assignment, not you, Shaya. All y'all. All y'all. It's your assignment to go out there and if you see a post where someone's dressing like that and you think, oh, that's outlandish, you know what you do? You like it and you say, good on you. Because we what we do not do is go see somebody who is having joy in their clothing, in their life, and say, are you sure you should be wearing that? We never do that.

SPEAKER_02

We don't do that. Even if we don't like what they're wearing, you know? That's a that's an us problem. That's a you problem. Yeah, that's an us problem, not a them problem. If they're having joy, it is not aone's joy down. I have some final words. What are your final words? Please share with me and with us.

SPEAKER_00

Rare moons. Bring rare clarity. So this is your moment to recalibrate before the next chapter begins. Because true spiritual well-being is not about how much you achieve, it's about how gently you hold yourself and your community while you grow.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Ah, love that. Yes, community. That's what the matriarchy is about. Is about community. And I talk about each other up. Yes. And I I well, I'm gonna I'm talking about the matriarchy a lot these days. But like the whole thing about the whole the moon, the blue moon, the mini moon, is the moon is representative of female energy. But just but then there's something that's very powerful between uh the connection between women and the moon. And I think it's very representative of matriarchy, and matriarchy is about community. It's not about power, it's about community. So that's right. Yes. Woohoo! So we're gonna post some sources and whatnot uh in our in the usual place in our show notes. And so you can find find those sources that uh were mentioned, find the recipe.

SPEAKER_00
