Shooting Nutmeg & Mistletoe Day #3 of 18

We started our 18-day shoot of our Christmas comedy called "Nutmeg and Mistletoe."
I decided I would just hit the record button, usually at the end of each day, with my thoughts what was happening that day? What I learned, and generally what being on set for 12 hours a day is like.
It is quite unfiltered and unedited (with the occasional beep) - hope you enjoy being backstage!
In this episode: 12-hour escalating days, actors improving dumpster scene, rain slowed things.

Well Hello. Today is Thursday, uh January twenty second, I believe. Just finished day three at Santa Clarita Studios. It's almost eight o'clock. Um, every day we've been filming has kind of slipped a little bit. So it was starting at 6 30 in the morning, which goes to 6 30 at night because it's a 12-hour shift. And then you can't start the next day sooner than 12 hours after you end the last day. So if it goes late, it can never go earlier than when you ended. So every day it's been getting a little bit later and later. Tomorrow we're showing up at 8 and going until 8 p.m. So there you have it. Um let's see, we had a great day today. We did scenes outside with the gosh, with the misfits walking down the street. We had them coming to Tinseltown for the first time, showing up in the dumpster. That was a cool idea from she she thought they should just appear in the dumpster and kind of we did this fun sight gag with them kind of creeping out of it, like Oscar the Grouch. We had Patrick, the busboy, show up and meet them there. That was fun. Um, we did a couple scenes in Jasper's garage, some kind of the more I wouldn't say exactly heartfelt, but more on the like conflict side with um with Alma um being really upset about uh Jasper selling the garage and those two letting each other have it. Jasper getting really upset at her playing with the ornaments that she shouldn't have been playing with because he it's bringing up bad old memories of for him, sad old memories. So that was really nice. What else happened? Um I don't know. Lots of lots of great takes, lots of laughs. And gosh, there must have been more than that. Um no drama. Um, I don't know. That was kind of it. It just went, it just went. It was the whole morning was slow. We ended up by getting behind. Um, I don't think we got over to the last two scenes of Jasper's garage until almost 5 p.m. So we had two and a half hours to do two scenes. We got almost all of it, but um not quite all. We're gonna tomorrow we're gonna do a cool body double with uh over her shoulder um doing um singles on Jasper's face for his reaction shots and also some of his dialogue. But isn't coming in tomorrow, so you know, we're always trying to save as much as possible. We don't want to bring people to the set if we don't absolutely need them. So we had planned on her not coming tomorrow, so we had to make sure we got all of her singles today. Um, I can't think of anything else. It was just a good day. Um, it was raining this morning, which definitely contributed to the slowdown. Um, it wasn't horrible, but it was probably an hour and a half of drizzle. Caused some issues. Um that's about all I got. Great day all around. People are super, super happy. And gosh, trying to think if there's any dialogue stuff that changed. I can't really remember. My head is a little little melted, but looking forward to Friday, tomorrow.
