Peter Diamandis: How to Reverse Ageing and Live Longer Than You Think Is Possible
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Peter Diamandis is one of the world's leading voices on longevity, exponential technology, and the future of human health. He is the founder of XPRIZE, co-founder of Singularity University, and the founder of Fountain Life, an advanced health and longevity centre that collects 200GB of data about your body in a single day to find what conventional medicine misses entirely.
In this conversation, Peter shares why medicine is about to undergo the most dramatic transformation in human history, why longevity escape velocity is coming by 2033, and why most people know more about what is happening inside their car than inside their own body. He also reveals the daily habits that keep him performing at the highest level and why optimism is itself a longevity tool backed by science.
He explains:
◼ Why the body is incredibly good at hiding disease until it is too late
◼ How Fountain Life collects 200GB of data about your body in a single day
◼ Why a bowhead whale living 200 years convinced him ageing was a solvable problem
◼ Ray Kurzweil's prediction that longevity escape velocity will arrive by 2033
◼ Why optimists live 15% longer according to a study in the National Academy of Sciences
◼ The two most important days in your life according to Mark Twain and why purpose is everything
◼ The simple daily habits he swears by: sleep, exercise and eliminating sugar

Medicine is about to undergo this incredible transformation. We're about to understand not only how to slow and stop aging, but reverse aging. All of these things are preventable. If you look, and you're going to find out eventually, you want to know in the beginning when you do something about it or when it's too late. Most people know more about what's going on in your car than you know what's going on inside your body. You think you're healthy because the body's incredibly good at hiding disease. Longevity is something that we can enable in our lives. If you realize that that is possible, then you're going to do everything you can in order to determine are you healthy?
SPEAKER_02Hi Peter, thank you for being in Humanware again. Congratulations on the grand opening of the Houston Center of Fountain Life.
SPEAKER_00Yes, we're here, it's beautiful.
SPEAKER_02I know. And could you tell us what is Fountain Life?
SPEAKER_00Fountain Life is an integrated advanced health longevity center. So it's a chance for people to go in a single day, we upload you, we collect about 200 gigabytes of data about your body. It's every imaging study possible, full body MRI, brain, brain vasculature, coronary CT, ADEXA scan, your full genome, all your blood biomarkers, your microbiome, it's everything knowable about you in order to determine are you healthy? Do you actually have anything going on inside your body that you need to know about? And for most people, you know, you know more about what's going on in your car or your refrigerator than you know what's going on inside your body. You think you're healthy because the body is incredibly good at hiding disease. So at Fountain Life, we have three particular missions. Number one, to evaluate you with all the diagnostics we provide, the most advanced in the world, to determine is there anything going on inside your body that you need to know about and take care about right away. Number two, can we optimize you? Can we find what's going on? Where are you, and how do we optimize your body? Number three, we search the world for the most advanced longevity therapeutics, technologies like stem cells and exosomes, eventually epigenetry reprogramming, and we make that available to our members. Because we're at the verge of a health span revolution, and we want to make the most advanced technologies available to the people who are members in Fountain Life.
SPEAKER_02I've been following your great work for such a long time, and every time I see you, you have such a tack of energy. And I was almost asking how he did it. So, what is your golden nugget and your secret for your daily life?
SPEAKER_00It's purpose. You know, I think I I think I have an incredible amount of optimism about the world, uh, and I'm driven by purpose. And one of the areas of purpose for me is to help guide us through this longevity and health span revolution. Medicine is about to undergo this incredible transformation. We're about to understand not only how to slow and stop aging, but reverse aging. If you realize that that is coming, that that is possible, and you have a longevity mindset, then you're going to do everything you can to be in the best health you can, to intercept the technologies that are coming. And, you know, while we're here to make sure you don't die from something stupid, the rest of it is sleep, diet, exercise, mindset, you know, the fundamentals, not eating sugar, you know, removing alcohol or excessive alcohol from your diet, all these things make a difference. And it's optimizing ourselves.
SPEAKER_02And for your personal life, of when you look back in your um life story, what are that one moment or that one person changing your mindset in longevity?
SPEAKER_00You know, um there's a few people that had an impact on longevity. The first was a TV show I watched years ago in which I learned that um the bowhead whale, one of the largest mammals on the planet, could live for 200 years. And and then the Greenland shark could live for 500 years. I'm saying, if they can live that long, why can't we? And I said, this was while I was in medical school. I said, you know, uh, it's either a hardware problem or a software problem that we have that we can't live that long, and we're gonna be able to solve that. So that was a really important moment uh where I said, okay, I know it's possible, we just need to find how do we get there. The second person was Ray Kurzweil, right? Ray has been uh a dear friend, a mentor. We start companies together, we start singular university together. And Ray, for the longest time, he's one of the greatest futurists ever. Um and his predictions have had an 84, 86 percent accuracy level. And one of his predictions is the idea that we're gonna reach longevity escape velocity by 2033. LEV by 2033. I love that mantra. And um I started learning and researching, and then I said, you know, this is the biggest business opportunity on the planet, and it's the greatest gift I can give anybody. So how do I start working on this? So I started investing in, building companies in these areas, and really supporting and promoting um the idea that longevity is something that we can enable in our lives, and it can be happening now because of exponential technologies.
SPEAKER_02And what is the one health habit that you sware by every day?
SPEAKER_00Minimizing sugar, maximizing sleep.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Right? So those and then and then working out. It's still the basics. It's still, you know, uh exercise, sleep, and then the other thing that I think I have that I feel blessed about is my mindset. I have a very positive mindset. And there was a great study done um uh a decade or so ago, uh published in the National Academy of Sciences, that showed that optimists live 15% longer than pessimists. And so you get a double dividend if you're an optimist. You have to live longer and people like spending time with you.
SPEAKER_02And one last question for the entrepreneur and for the people who want to come to Fountain Life or optimize their health, what are the number one golden nuggets for them to find their passion and then set their one shots?
SPEAKER_00If you can afford to come to Fountain Life, you owe it to yourself. It is the number one, you know, health insurance policy. You know, we all know people who have died in the middle of their sleep from a heart attack or go to the doctor with a pain in their side, the doctor says, I'm sorry to tell you this, you have this cancer. And all of these things are preventable if you look. And you're gonna find out eventually. Do you want to know in the beginning when you do something about it or when it's too late? So that's critically important. The second thing I say to people is find your purpose in life. You know, Mark Twain had an amazing quote, I love. He goes, There are two important days in your life, the day you were born, the day you find out why. So once you find your purpose, then you know, living life and living as much of life, and for me, this is the most exciting time ever to be alive. I want to see as many decades as I possibly can.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, if you there, for your time.
