Well, hello, you glitter covered alien. In today's episode, I wanted to help you to be really good on camera. And by really good, I mean yourself. Okay. So when people watch YouTube videos and they're watching YouTubers that they like, I believe that there's a special something that you're seeing in that person. And that special something is also within you. And I also believe that the only difference between somebody who isn't yet doing good YouTube videos and someone who is, is the person that you're watching that's really quote unquote good at YouTube, all we're really good at is actually showing up as ourselves. Let me explain. So there's um there's a certain energy that comes with just showing up as your true self. If you've ever been to a party or you've ever been around a work environment where there's some people that just you can tell they're really comfortable with themselves, those people tend to put you at ease. This is actually something that I had to practice. This is actually something that didn't necessarily come naturally to me when I first started on video. I I left all my videos up on my YouTube channel for a reason. Um and you can go back to my earliest videos, and I wasn't bad on camera, but there's actually videos that I wish I could get my hands on that were filmed a couple weeks before that first upload. And I was so nervous and I was trying to get it right instead of just being myself. And that one hair's breadth of a centimeter of a centimeter of a centimeter of a difference, that one shift of there's nothing wrong with being nervous, and there's nothing wrong with you know trying to make a good video, but there's a whole universe that's a hair's breadth of length you just step over into actually just being yourself on camera instead of trying to try, instead of trying to be good. And this is kind of tricky for somebody who hasn't yet done YouTube videos, and maybe you've been watching some YouTube videos. I mean, I personally have been watching YouTube since it started, and I've always loved YouTube. And when YouTube first started, there were some really amazing creators. We didn't yet know what YouTube was. Um, YouTube started before a couple years, I think it started like two years before I actually took the leap and started posting my own videos. But people didn't really get it, you know, they didn't really understand what YouTube was gonna be. And so in the early days of YouTube, it was kind of a hodgepodge of all kinds of things like it is now, but it was a lot more there was a lot more sincerity. And I'm really glad that I started what I did because the idea of YouTube that it's just such a big idea now, where it's basically television at this point. It's basically like, do you want to start your own TV show? But it's not really that, you know. What the way that I see YouTube is I see this as a way for me to transmit my messages and to just really show up for my people who need help and to really help business owners do their life's work and to really help me to have a highly profitable business, which has afforded me that ability over the past 16 years. Now, I'm also a business teacher, so there's a lot more to it. We can't just pop up on YouTube with a really banging personality and say, you know, buy my thing. We have to have a solid business model, and that's what I love teaching about in the YouTube Profits Accelerator. And there's a lot to online business, but when it comes to your presence on camera, your presence on camera, it really truly is just about you showing up naturally as your actual true self. Your actual true self. So when a camera is sitting in front of your face, I know that it's tempting and even a little bit uh almost it feels impossible to just be yourself because you have this idea in the back of your head that people are gonna be watching this video. So of course you want to show up in a certain way. But it's actually, I want you to think of it as the exact opposite. I want you to pretend like no one's ever gonna see the video if it helps you. Or I or you could also pretend like it's just going to one friend. I've mentioned that many times throughout my trainings and on YouTube, and I tell my clients that as well. You can also position yourself in your mind's eye as the absolute mega authority in your field. Okay. I want you to just pretend it's we can call this an alter ego. Pretend, put a cape on in your mind's eye of you're the, you know, the Sasha Fierce version of yourself and speak from that person if you find it very challenging to speak naturally in front of a camera. But I want you to also just keep it, keep this in mind. Take my hand, put on this plush robe and sit down with me and have a cup of coffee. I've got a cup of coffee, hopefully, you do as well, or whatever your beverage of choice is. But can I just remind you, if you take a look, an honest look, at most of the YouTube videos out there in your field of expertise, there's a lot of people who probably aren't as qualified as you talking on this, talking on the thing. That was one of the reasons I got into teaching online business, because I saw that there was a lot of nonsense out there. There were a lot of business teachers teaching about business who had never owned businesses before. And that's like a whole other can of worms, but I just saw it with my plain eyeballs that yeah, I know way more than a lot of these people. Not everybody, but a lot of them. And I've got mentors who don't want to have anything to do with online marketing, you know. And I like it's a shame that a lot of the true business masters don't really care about doing YouTube. But I'm like, I'll go. I've been doing it for 16 years. Let me go ahead and put my put my two cents in here. And what I have to say about it is of course, of course, you're not perfect. Of course, I'm not perfect. Of course, I'm not the ultimate authority, of course, you're not the ultimate authority, but you must remember where you came from and how much work you've been doing. One of my email newsletters, I asked everybody, I asked, you know, everybody, and the there's thousands of people. I just recently cleaned up my list, so it's not as big as it once was, but I asked tens of thousands of people, how many years have you been studying your craft? And over 80% of the people said more than 15 years. So if you're one of those people who's been at it for at least even just a couple years, but probably more than a decade, you're an authority. And I want you to understand it's a privilege for them to listen to you. You're giving them the privilege of your presence when you turn on a camera and tell them about your field of expertise. There's a filter that's happening right now in the world, and on especially in online business, where this is just the nature of the world where we're bound up by norms and how we quote unquote should be. And those of us who break away from those norms and really grow our businesses, we're those glitter-covered aliens who we must stop caring about showing up the right way and just be your glitter-covered alien self. Say the weird thing. You know, I have an executive coach in my and my accelerator at this point at the time of this recording, and she's lovely and she has an interest in quantum, quantum physics. And she's always has, she mentioned she's always hesitant to talk about that because she doesn't want to scare people off. And there's a physical therapist in there who also is like wanting to talk about chakras, but scared to, but scared to give the wrong impression because you know he's a doctor and he doesn't want to scare people off. And there's all kinds of every single glitter-covered alien in my accelerator, and every business owner ever, period. All of us have some weird, unique edge that if you actually showed it to people, they would love you. They would adore you. And there are some people who will not like it, and that's great. That means those aren't your people. You don't want to work with people who aren't down with the glitter-covered alien that you are, you know. So to be good on camera and to be good in business and to really stand out in today's market more than ever before, I think this is a timeless principle, but more now than ever before. You can simply show up without an agenda and just display your goods. What this means in practical terms is you're just going to show up with a really helpful solution or idea. And you can talk about that thing sincerely. And you can feel free to say the weird thing, you can feel free to do the weird thing, you can feel free to wear the weird thing, have a weird set behind you if you like. And by weird, I mean whatever that is for you. You might be surprised at how not weird people think you are. Just as an aside from my own thing, I'm kind of a weirdo, and people can kind of pick up on that. And and you are a weirdo, that's why you're listening to me. So, weirdo to weirdo, business owner to business owner, all business owners are absolutely nuts, by the way. Um, the more that you just simply show up and be your true self, the the better your videos are gonna get. And this is not an efforting thing, this is more of a taking away thing. So we can actually also, by the way, allow your allow your videos to not be perfect. Allow yourself to show up a little bit mechanical when you first start out, there's a really good chance you're not gonna sound as smooth as you will a year from now. But the only way to get to that smooth sounding year from now place is to show up a little bit mechanical. And here's my promise to you: if you say things that actually help people and solve a problem they really need to solve, they don't really give a shit if you sound super mechanical or super smooth, as long as you're not showing up pretending to be somebody that you're not. So no need to pretend, no need to try, no need to figure out how to say it. You just say it how you would say it if somebody just paid you$10,000 to solve their problem. And um, I had a dentist uh a few years back who I went in there and he was so awkward, super awkward, one of the most awkward human beings I've ever encountered in my life. And he was also saying, I'm awkward, and I have a hard time expressing myself, and I am, you know, I I don't really enjoy talking to people all that much. And it was very strange. But at the same time, I could tell he was very sweet, and he also had an assistant there, like literally had his assistant there translating every sentence he said, where he would say, I'm awkward and I don't like talking to people all that much. And she's like, Yeah, he has a hard time, so he has me here so that I can. She was like, it was so funny. It was like an SNL sketch. She's like, he has me here so that I can like smooth out the edges or whatever. I can't remember the exact words, but I was just sitting there with my mouth open, like, uh-huh. But anyway, long story short, I could tell he was sincere. I could tell he was good at his job. I could tell that he solved my problems. And I I actually really liked the way that he was just being honest about things. And I didn't really so much care about his delivery. Had he not said all those things, by the way, like the rest of the conversation where there was like a little something in my in my gum and like a little tiny sore spot in my gum, and he's like, it looks like you might have eaten a tortilla chip. I don't know. But the good news is it's all okay and no big deal. And I was like, Thanks, you know, it and he fixed me right up. It was not a big deal. And if he hadn't mentioned all that, all the stuff about how he is awkward and he doesn't like speaking to people and all that stuff, I still wouldn't have thought much of it. You know what I mean? I just really don't care. If somebody's gonna solve my problem, I'll gladly give them my money. As long as they're not, you know, as long as I don't get a bad feeling about the person, I'm always appreciative, no matter what their delivery is. And lastly, the good news about it is your delivery is gonna be fine. Whatever happens when you open your mouth, if you have a sincere message to share and a solution for other people, whatever you end up saying, however you end up saying it, it's gonna be exactly the way it needs to be said. This is a trust ball. Now, that dentist example, that was an extreme example. And there's a 99% chance that does not have anything to do with what you're gonna end up sounding like. You're gonna sound great. The dentist sounded great too in his own unique way. But my whole point is um if you happen to be a little bit nervous about being on camera, this is number one, if you happen to be nervous about being on camera, I want you to just trust fall into it. But number two, the trustfall that I'm talking about that applies to most business owners listening to this, the trustfall that I'm talking about here is trustfalling into you're just gonna talk the way that you talk to your family, to your friends, to your customers. And however it ends up sounding on the camera, you'll I know that you're gonna listen back to it and you're gonna think, uh, like I think it should be more polished or whatever you might have thoughts about how it should sound, how it ought to sound. However, it sounds when you're sincerely just showing up with an open heart and just giving your best shot at being your actual true self every single time you film the video, you say a little mantra or prayer, just letting the divine beloved speak through you. And then you just trust fall, trustfall into it. If you're secular, you could say your subconscious mind, let your subconscious mind speak through you, and then you trust fall. Whatever comes out of your mouth at that point, I want you to trust it.
