#26 The 4 Tenants of the Secular Worldview
In this conversation, I discuss the challenges posed by secularism to Christianity, focusing on the four tenets of the secular worldview as outlined by Natasha Crain in her book 'Faithfully Different.' I explore how these tenets—feelings as the ultimate guide, happiness as the ultimate goal, judging as the ultimate sin, and God as the ultimate guess—lead to confusion and chaos in society. I emphasize the importance of adhering to biblical truths and encourage listeners to remain steadfast in their faith amidst a turbulent cultural landscape.

Galatians 6, 7, do not be deceived. God is not mocked. For whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Secularism strikes again, this time in the form of mockery. Welcome back, everyone, to Carry Your Cross.
We're going to talk about the four tenants of the secular worldview. But I want to share something with you that I believe is a perfect segue into the main topic. sure some of you are familiar with the individual known as Cynthia Erivo. And recently she was a part of a Jesus Christ superstar musical.
and performance has gone viral over the past couple weeks. You know, there's videos surfacing all over social media of her performance and depiction of Jesus Christ himself. I'm going to share this video with you. I want us to take a quick look at it and then we'll move on from there.
a slap to God himself, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This brings me to a post a sister in Christ, and her name's Amy Main. this is what she posted on her about this.
I quote, they're always attacking Christianity because it's the only religion that's true. Why would Satan spend time tearing down beliefs that already lead people to hell? Demons helped create those. You don't go after something because it's fake. You go after it because it's a real threat.
And again, this is Amy Main. a great content creator. go and look up her work and give her a follow. But I couldn't agree more. We just witnessed a real life demon, guys.
times are getting strange and I am not sure what actually do know what possessed Cynthia Erivo
The devil is truly working overtime. He's trying to win as many souls hell as he possibly can. But this is why we have to stand firm in our beliefs and our faith in Jesus Christ. Amen, guys. put on your armor of God. We are living in.
turbulent times.
Well, this is a perfect segue into the topic because today we're talking about the four tenets of the secular worldview. And I'm going to get into that here in a second. But the idea of the four tenets of the secular worldview from author and apologist Natasha Crane of the book Faithfully Different, Regaining Biblical Clarity.
in a secular culture.
You guys, it looks like a great book. ⁓ I highly encourage you to look into it. So Natasha does an excellent of laying out the core principles that shape our secular culture. In her book, she identifies four key tenants of the modern secular worldview. These four tenants are as follows. Feelings,
are the ultimate guide, is the ultimate goal, judging is the ultimate sin, and God is the ultimate guess.
So this is indeed the four of secularism, So if we are without a culture, these are the fruits of a secular society, which is what we're living in today.
So today we're going to unpack each of these and then show why in the long run they don't lead to freedom. They lead to collapse.
let's break it down starting from the top. Feelings are the ultimate guide.
Our culture constantly tells us to follow your heart, trust your truth, and do what feels right. Sounds empowering, right? here's the problem. Feelings change and often each other. What you feel today may be totally different tomorrow. When we make feelings our compass,
were essentially sailing through life without a map.
Think about it. If two people feel strongly in opposite directions, who's right? If morality is based on emotion, then there is no truth, just opinion. And that leads to confusion, conflict, and ultimately chaos.
The Bible gives us a better way. Proverbs 14-12 says, there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. In other words, our hearts can lead us astray. We need truth outside of ourselves. Truth found in God's word.
on to tenet number two, happiness is the ultimate goal.
So we're told that happiness is the ultimate goal. sold this lie from every angle. If you're not happy, your job, your spouse, your gender, your beliefs, whatever it takes. let's be real. Chasing happiness is like chasing the wind.
The more we make it our aim, the more elusive it becomes.
And here's where the secular worldview begins to break down because life is hard. There's suffering, disappointment, loss. If happiness is the highest value, then life becomes intolerable moment it stops feeling good.
However, Christianity offers something far deeper, joy. Not based on circumstances, But rooted in Christ.
Jesus asked in Matthew 16 26, for what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
Amen, guys. Listen up. the ultimate question. can chase the world's version of happiness and gain it all. wealth, popularity, lose what matters most, your soul. That's not winning. That's tragedy.
And Philippians 4, 11 to 13. It reminds us that we can be content in all things because our strength comes from the Lord, not from life going our way.
And next up we have tenet number three it claims judging is the ultimate sin. ⁓ man, I love this one. dive in.
So we're told that judging is the ultimate sin. heard it. judge me. God can judge. Love means acceptance. let's pause for a second weight.
To say that no one should judge is a judgment. Everyone makes moral assessments. The real question is, what standard are we using?
This brings us to the idea of objective belief that there are moral truths that exist independently of our feelings, preferences, or cultural trends. If right and wrong are just personal opinions, then nothing can be truly wrong. Not abuse, not injustice, not cruelty, but deep down,
We all know some things are always wrong. That knowledge points to a moral lawgiver, God himself.
Folks, I'm not sure if you've had conversations, discussions or disputes with atheists, but they will argue that there is no objective morality. So they believe that we are just cosmic accidents. We are just stardust bumping into stardust.
and they don't believe in any injustice. Or if they do...
They will say that
we have arrived to disliking injustice because of our evolutionary process. ⁓ You know, we have evolved to the environment and the state that we're currently in. And you know, this is mental and brain evolution. And as humans, a collective agreement as to what is right and wrong. reject objective morality because
They don't believe in God.
The culture says, you do you, but the minute you cross someone's invisible moral line, they'll call you out. Hard.
This moral inconsistency is a hallmark of the secular worldview. claims to be tolerant, but it's often incredibly intolerant of anything resembling biblical truth. on guys. Jesus told us in John 7 24, do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgments.
I feel like a lot of Christians think that judgment is wrong and that we're not allowed to judge because we're, Christians, but the Bible does support the idea and practice of judging righteously. So judgment isn't the problem. Hypocrisy is. We're called to speak truth with love, not stay silent in the name of false
tolerance.
And lastly, but in reality, probably not least, the last tenet is God is the ultimate guess.
So in secular thinking, if God exists at all, he's unknowable, impersonal, and irrelevant to daily life.
This mindset encourages spiritual ambiguity. So you'll hear statements like, believe whatever works for you. All paths lead to the same place. You can't know truth, so just be spiritual.
But here's the irony. People long purpose, and truth, of themselves.
So this is why I love Christianity because it boldly proclaims something different. God has revealed himself in creation, in scripture, and most fully in Jesus Christ. He's not a guest, he's a person, a savior, a king.
And more than that, he is the ultimate authority, the one who defines truth, morality, and purpose. We don't get to remake God in our image, we are called to conform our lives to his.
Because God is real and because his authority is final, life has meaning even in suffering.
this all together. The secular worldview promises freedom, but delivers confusion. It says, follow your feelings, but feelings change. It says, pursue happiness, but happiness fades. It says, don't then judges anyone who disagrees. Let that one sink in. And it says, God is unknowable.
we cry out for something bigger than ourselves.
Come on you guys. This worldview cannot sustain itself and we're watching it fall apart in mental health crisis, breakdown, spiritual confusion and cultural division.
But there's hope. Jesus said in John 8 32, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
If you're tired of trying to build your life on sand, turn to the rock. to Christ. to a solid foundation.
because in him, you'll find a guide that's greater than your feelings, a purpose deeper than happiness, a truth that gives real moral clarity, and a God who isn't a guess, but a gracious and glorious savior. Amen, everyone.
So if you haven't noticed these secular tenants being played out, then it's time to wake up because if you haven't realized yet, this is exactly what's going on. This is where the world's at now. This is what society has become and...
more specifically and actually overall this is what Satan done. I just even I significantly disagree with Cynthia Erivo and her actions and portrayal of Jesus Christ.
let's just offer up some prayer to her, right? We need to pray for Cynthia that she becomes saved, that she decides to repent, that...
she does not let her past mistakes, challenges, or trauma define who she is, that she doesn't succumb to tenets of this secular worldview, may she know that she is a daughter of the king, a daughter of the most high, who loves her, and who has redeemed her.
She's obviously going through demonic attack. I've seen pictures of her from many years ago and she looked like a normal human being. But currently, she looks like a real manifestation of a demon. And that's concerning. Many people, Hollywood or not, are going down that path.
and as Christians were called to spread light
and spread truth.
So that is my heart for these people and I caution you guys on the lookout for these four tenets of the secular worldview that you are cognizant of these and that you don't fall into these yourself. Okay. I'm going to link Natasha Crane's book in the description below. It's titled Faithfully Different.
regaining biblical clarity in a secular culture. it, she dives deeper into these four tenets. Again, feelings are the ultimate guide. Happiness is the ultimate goal. Judging is the ultimate sin.
