Hello, everybody. This is Mike Jibo with the Rocky Boy Health Center Prevention Department podcast. Today we have some student workers that are going to share a little bit about their first week and their did what they did today. And we'll go ahead and start with uh introduce yourself.

Alright. So what did you guys think stood out for you today as we went out and about in the land in Rocky Boa community?

Uh staying with my uh spending time with my peers.

Yeah, got to be one with the land. Pick some sage and some sweet grass.

Mm-hmm. Yep. So tell us about picking sweet grass.

It was pretty cool. Uh you gotta look for the stem. The stem should be purple. If you find a purple stem, then that's some sweetgrass and yeah.

Grab some tobacco and pray before we're picking it. But um I mowed. It was really hot.

Yes, we was up at the cabins. You guys are um fixing up the place, getting ready for the returning to the land camp that's coming up.

I had to clean out those steak little cabins. Yeah, then not to put in some insulation.

Yeah, and then we injected that insulation. And it was pretty hot, but got got it done pretty pretty fast, I'd say.

Yep, you guys fixed all the holes in the um cabins with the um insulation, and you guys put wind windows in and you guys cleaned up. So it looks really nice now with all the yard cut.

I don't know. Finally, finally had a good day.

The drone. I was scared of that drone.

I like being uh eyebaldy or just close to the mountain. It's pretty good.

How about you, bro? What standed out for you?

I I really thought it was cool. I I like that you guys put up that sign that says, This is our land, this is sacred land, no alcohol, no drugs, keep it clean. And that was really cool to put two signs up at the um Cattle Guard and what was the other one? But uh so we put up those cool signs, and then I really like picking the sweetgrass at the area, and also we picked sage, and um, I'm glad that you guys were able to practice flying the drone and taking pictures with the camera.

Wait, how much pieces of um sweetgrass do you think it is to make a breed?

At least three.

Probably 15, I bet. Oh, yeah, 20 at least.

Yeah, 20 to 25 tops.

So we're gonna have to find out. We'll see how that goes and figure out how many it takes and how long it takes, too, because you gotta be centered, you gotta be calm, and it's really meditative, picking it. And is it hard to find?

It could be, yeah, I'd say yeah. It's very time consuming.

I mean, yeah, you gotta like get down and actually look at the roots.

The base they're purple.

My name is Lanea DeMonty. I go to Rocky Way High School and I'm working with the prevention in the health center.

Okay, thank you. My name is Ryan Johnson. And I'm working at the pre-apprentice thing. Yeah, you guys are pre-apprentice workers. So today we went out in the community and uh went a few places, and what stands out for you guys? What did you guys do today?

Um, today we went up to the mountains and we cleaned out some cabins, um, picked up trash. What else did we do? We did some glass windows too on the cabins that were broken, so yeah, we did that.

I mowed. Mode the grass. There's the big lots of grass that you guys cut.

Yeah, you guys did an awesome job today. Um, what do you guys think about that sign we put up?

Um, I feel like it could help people driving on the road, and it'd probably be real helpful for the community.

Yeah, we wanted to um people to know that this is our sacred land, especially going up that way towards the ball uh Baldy Butte, and that we wanted to keep it clean, no alcohol, no drugs, and uh uh keep it real clean by not throwing trash out.
