Green certification sounds impressive, but what does it actually mean for the business and its loyal customers? How does this eco-friendly badge translate into tangible benefits for those who love their cars sparkling clean and for the environment they drive in? Welcome back everyone. I'm Sophia Yvette, co-host, slash producer. Back in the studio with Kevin Dalton. Kevin, how's it going?

So, kevin, how does the Eden Art Group ISO 14001 certification benefit the business and its customers?

Speaker 3:

Well, that's a great question. So the international standard, the ISO 14001, is a small and medium businesses sustainability certification and a lengthy process to be certified internationally. And we're very fortunate that we are one of a handful of car washes in the whole country to be recognized and certified and we are very proud of our sustainability and eco-friendliness of our processes at all of our locations.

Speaker 2:

And so what does the ISO 14001 certification entail and why is it so important for your business?

Speaker 3:

Sure. So it revolves around everything about our business, from the size of our dumpster. Are we creating too much waste for the environment? What are we doing on the wash side? Are we using harmful soaps and chemicals on the vehicles? We train all of our employees to make sure they're breaking down boxes and they're going into a separate container. Everything is divided out, even our trash out of our customer waiting areas are divided out for the environment.

Speaker 3:

The chemicals, as I mentioned. We've gone through a lengthy process of determining what chemicals we have used that we no longer use and what we will use in the future, and even those chemicals, for example, as we go every year into the certification or recertification process, we're finding that certain chemicals that we approved last year may not be approved based on the new certification standards for the upcoming year, and we are very fortunate that our main chemical supplier can create the exact chemical for us. They actually make all of our chemicals, or most of our chemicals, in a plant in Riviera Beach, florida, and they can be developed just for us. They receive our recertification process and see what exactly we're allowed to use or what we shouldn't use, I should say, and they formulate it just for us. On the other end, it really teaches all of our employees that when they go home at night, that they are breaking down the boxes and separating the trash out at their own home.

Speaker 3:

Now and of course, some of them are already doing that because they have kids and the kids are being taught that in school, which is wonderful. But we can say that in Palm Beach County we are the only car wash that is certified as a true sustainable and eco-friendly business slash car wash so we're very proud of that. We have competitors that claim to be certified, but when you go through and dig a little deeper, you find out that they were self-audited. What does self-auditing mean? I think we can all figure that out, and that's not a process I'm going to do. I'm going to actually get certified to be sustainable and eco-friendly to the environment, which ultimately helps everyone.

So why does being environmentally certified influence customers' trust and loyalty? Can?

Speaker 3:

Oh well, I'll tell you, in this day and age, I think so many people are going the direction of separating in their yellow and blue bins and, of course, their green trash can or whatever trash can color you have, and they really are getting into this process. And if they see us doing this process during their 15 or 20 or 30 minutes at our locations, then I think they back on the drying process to make sure the towels aren't fully dried, that they still are moist. We're saving the electricity for the environment. It's a wonderful thing that we're doing and we're so proud of it. I'm sure there's a couple other car wash companies throughout the country that may be certified ISO 14001. But I know in Florida we are absolutely the only one and we just are. When we have customers come up and ask us why we're doing these things, if we tell them they're like, oh, that's wonderful, they really love seeing us be eco-friendly to the environment.
