The Work From Anywhere Agent
20. What I learned about making real connections through content
Ever found yourself being followed primarily by other real estate agents instead of potential clients? This realization struck me during our latest discussion, and it’s a problem worth addressing.
I’m always diving deep into mental models to keep things clear and simple, and today I unpack two common obstacles that realtors face in content creation. The first is building an audience full of fellow agents rather than local prospects. The second? Getting engagement but no serious leads. Both are solvable, and our latest episode provides the answers.
We explore the magic of local content to attract the right audience and the importance of making yourself approachable to potential clients. You’ll learn why glamorizing your area is more crucial than just focusing on real estate and how your engagement habits might be affecting your lead generation.

This is going to be a very quick episode, but this is something that we've talked about in our mastermind and continues to come up as a thing for me. I am very particular about following mental models and frameworks, and this is one that gives you so much clarity and keeps everything so simple in a way that you're like, oh okay, I know exactly what the issue is, and so once you know what the problem is, you know how to fix it right. So the two common issues that I see agents bringing up when it comes to their content is either, number one the audience that they're building is agents or number two is that they're getting great conversations, they're getting great followers, they're getting all the things, but they're not actually turning into leads, and so we're going to answer both of those with two separate things. So first is, if we're getting too many agents in terms of our audience, our followers, the people that are commenting, that means that we're not making enough local content. So, thinking about how the algorithm works right, if we're only creating real estate content, it's going to show your content to people who are actively looking at real estate content, which is most likely going to be other agents Most people don't step into real estate or into looking at real estate, until they're actively in the process, and so if we wait until we get in front of them when they're already shopping, already in the process, it's probably too late because they're already working with another agent. So we have to get in front of them before they start working with somebody else. And that's where the local content comes into play.
Speaker 0:Now, think about highlighting the lifestyle of what it looks like and feels like to live in your area. Think about glamorizing where you live, and that's the type of content that you want to create to attract a more local audience. That's not just real estate agents. So that handles number one. Number two is if you're creating great content, right Like, you're creating the local content and you're creating the educational real estate content, but you're not getting local content, and you're creating the educational real estate content but you're not getting inquiries, you're not getting conversations, then what may be happening is that your audience sees you as unattainable. So think about, like, the celebrities that you see on TV.
Speaker 0:Think about the news anchors, right Like. Even though your news anchors are local, you're still probably not going to be like, hey, let me just go DM them because it doesn't feel attainable. So if you're not engaging with your audience and that means replying to their comments, you're not engaging in their content, you're not sending them DMs and you're not building that relationship intentionally and you can think about this in the sense of almost prospecting through social media, prospecting through DMs, prospecting through comments then you're going to find that you fall into this sort of unattainable talking head that they're like wow, this person's so smart, they know so much, but like they're probably too busy for me, and so that's a very real thing. And so if we're finding that either of these issues are becoming something that comes up for you, you know how to fix them now. So, like I said, this was going to be a super short one. That's the episode. As always, join us in our Business Systems for Realtors Facebook group to join our daily discussion, and I will see you in the next episode.
