32. The Power of Five-Minute Time Blocks: Transforming Your Social Media Strategy
Ever wondered how the little habits we adopt could transform our social media game? In today's episode of The Work From Anywhere Agent, I'm diving into a strategy that's been a game-changer for me. It's all about embracing the power of micro time blocks to boost engagement on social platforms without feeling overwhelmed.
Through my journey, I've found that breaking down tasks into 5, 10, or 15 minutes has not only kept me motivated but also increased my productivity. By limiting myself to short, meaningful interactions on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, I'm nurturing relationships and seeing real results in engagement and reach.
Curious to know more? This method doesn't just apply to social media—it's a holistic approach to managing a busy day as an agent. Join me as I share how structuring my day with these mini time blocks is making a difference, and how you might find new ways to stay consistent and focused too.
Let's keep this conversation going! Feel free to join our Business Systems for Realtors Facebook group, where we're building a community of learning and support. I can't wait to see how these small changes could make a big impact for you.
Today I want to share with you something that I've incorporated into my business that has really just I don't want to say changed my life, but it's made a really big difference in how I use social media and how I nurture my relationships and, more than anything, is just kind of continuing to support this new philosophy that I'm adopting into my life, which is the little things go a really long way when done consistently over time. So before I even get into what the strategy is, I just have to share something really quick. I don't know about you guys, but for me, time blocking typically doesn't work right, and it's because, like, my attention span doesn't last an hour, let alone two or three hours, right. So if I try to plan something for two or three hours on a time block, I already know that, going into it, I'm already dreading the fact I'm gonna have to spend that much time, and so what I've started doing is, instead of having these really long time blocks, kind of having sort of buffers to say like, okay, for the mornings, this is kind of the activities I'm going to do in the afternoon, these are the activities I'm going to do.
Alexa:And then I use this app called Sunsama S-U-N-S-A-M-A and it gives you the ability to plan your day. You assign how long you think tasks are going to take you and then you can add them to your calendar directly into Sunsama and it pulls in your email. I also use Notion for our team meetings. If you use, like Todoist or ClickUp or any of those platforms, it also pulls those tasks in as well, and so it kind of puts everything into one easy to consume format where everything you need to get done for the day is pulled in. You assign time to each of those, so let's say it's a five minute or 10 minute or 15 minute task, and then you add those to your calendar. And what I found is doing it this way the adrenaline and the dopamine hits that I get from completing five or 10 or 15 minute tasks, even though they're important, right, even though they're super small, super short, super quick it gives me that like wow, like I'm getting something done, type of vibe and it keeps me motivated throughout the day where I'm like trying to beat the clock, right. So if I gave myself 10 minutes, I want to complete it in eight minutes, right? And so it sort of gamifies all the stuff that I need to get done during the day, and that's made a really big difference.
Alexa:But, more than anything, the one strategy that I've really been adopting is around social media. So I don't know if I'm the only one, but I definitely get sucked into the Instagram doom scroll right, where you get stuck in watching reels and then you're like, how did I end up watching a dog walk across a roof? Like, I don't even know how you get there, right, like, but somehow it hooks you. And so what I've started doing is, instead of focusing on using content like wherever, or scrolling through Instagram whenever throughout the day, I set a 15 minute time block, and so I give myself five minutes on LinkedIn, five minutes on Facebook, five minutes on Instagram, and I literally just scroll through the feed and I comment on as many people's content as I can, meaningfully, obviously, but doing it that way, I found that I'm generating a lot more conversations from social media. The algorithm is showing my content a lot more because I'm engaging with people and they're engaging with my content more as well, and so that little routine, that little activity, has made a really big difference, right, and so it's only 15 minutes, and doing it five minutes, five minutes, five minutes makes it so that I get all three platforms. Now let's say, for example, you're like I don't care about LinkedIn, I don't care about Facebook, I just care about Instagram. Maybe you only have a five minute time block or a 10 minute time block, but I'm finding more than anything of any routine, any activity that I've started adopting is, instead of time blocking for an hour or two hours or three hours, don't be afraid to time block for five or 10 or 15 minutes, and doing it that way, I promise you, makes such a difference in your mindset and your ability to actually execute, to stay consistent, to feel like you're making progress, to not burn out as you're going through your day and then still respecting kind of a structure around your calendar.
Alexa:So, for example, in the mornings the first thing I do is I always make my phone calls right. So I do have a time block blocked out for that. But it's not always just like reaching out to new leads. It'll be like following up from networking connections and things like that. So all during that time block, I'll say I need to write a follow up email to XYZ person and that will be a five minute time block.
Alexa:Within that one hour, then I have a time block that I loosely follow for managing my team, and so that's usually from like 10 to 12. And so for that time block, whatever tasks my team needs is when. I'll actually put that in there. And then I try to only take meetings from well, at 1230 and at 230, so that I can finish my day by a reasonable time. And doing it that way I'm finding just keeping my sort of structure about my day, but really leaning into those micro time blocks. I'm telling you, five minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes goes a really long way and I cannot recommend it enough. So that's the episode for today. As always, don't forget to join our daily discussion in our Business Systems for Realtors Facebook group, and I will see you in the next episode.
