Sacred Work
41. This is Sacred Work
Ever notice how certain work just feels... different? This morning, I couldn't shake the feeling that what we do as real estate agents goes far beyond just handing over keys or closing deals—it’s something deeper, almost sacred. After years of honing systems and processes, I’m realizing that our greatest impact begins when we connect who we are, why we serve, and the energy we bring every day.
Let me get real: growing up, I watched my dad build a booming business at the expense of his well-being, and it hit me hard—systems aren’t just about efficiency, they're tools for protecting our time, our families, and our health. But lately, I’ve felt pulled to a bigger conversation, one where business and spirit aren’t kept separate. What if leadership in real estate means seeing our work as a form of service or even ministry, especially when guiding clients through emotional moments like inherited property sales?
In today’s episode, I share the honest “why” behind the big rebrand for The Work From Anywhere Agent. I open up about the shift from focusing only on funnels and follow-ups to fostering real transformation—for clients, agents, and ourselves. Curious how merging the heart and the “how” transforms everything from your team’s energy to your client experience? You’ll want to hear where we’re headed next.
If this resonates—if you believe real estate is more than just transactions—jump into our Facebook group, Business Systems for Realtors (also evolving soon!). Let’s keep building something meaningful together.
I have so much to share with you and I've been kind of holding it back. I still don't think I'm going to give it all away today because so much of it still has to unfold. But there's something that's been really pulling at me that I feel so compelled to talk about, so compelled to share that if I don't start talking about it I might actually explode at the seams. So we've talked about systems for a very long time. Systems have been something that have been very close to my heart, not because I'm an SC personality on the disc Like most people are like. Oh well, I'm not a systems person because I'm a DI. Yeah, so am I. I'm a 90-90-99-I, right? So systems have nothing to do with personality styles. The reason that I've always been so passionate about systems is because my dad, who was a business owner he did almost $2 million a year in volume. He ran a business that did granite and quartz fabrication. So when someone was renovating their kitchen or their bathrooms, his company basically did all the fabrication for the contractors that then basically outsourced to him. And so in growing his business, he went from doing like two kitchens a week to 20 kitchens a day in a span of like five years, and that was all great, well and good, he was making great money, all those things, but he also had a heart attack and died at 51 years old, and it was stress-induced. And so, while I've talked about that side of it, his marriage was not one that was happy or healthy either. So the stress of work that he was using to escape from the marriage that he wasn't happy in right was a big part of this, and so when we think about the stress and the workload that we take on, this is something that, like, without systems, it's not sustainable. We are not meant to grind 24-7. We are not designed for that, right. And so some of you may know, and I've kind of hesitated a little bit to take it here, but again, I keep feeling this calling to start taking it here, and so we're just going to answer the call and that's just what we're going to do.
Alexa:I've been on a very deep spiritual journey over the last couple of years and it feels almost ingenuine to keep the business separate from the spirituality, and I want to just preface this by saying I don't expect you to feel exactly the same way I do. I don't expect you to believe what I believe. But what I do think is going to happen is that the agents that this resonates with are going to feel seen and feel understood, and hopefully I can give you some language to sort of explain the way that this feels. Now let me be very clear. I am not stepping off my soapbox of systems. What I'm looking to do here is sort of expand, not just focusing on the systems, the how, but also being able to focus on the why and the who, right. So one of my biggest epiphanies over the last couple of months has been really focusing on not being the person in my business to build the systems, and so that was just something that I had become the systems person, and so when there was an issue in my company, it would be brought to me and I'd be like, okay, let's work through how to fix this Now, teaching people how to think in systems and think in mental models that help them start to build those systems.
Alexa:That's where I've stepped off of the soapbox of systems and into the soapbox of leadership, and so, with that in mind, the development of people in itself is a form of ministry, if you will, and so, whether or not you go to church every Sunday or temple or whatever you call it, whether or not you have a relationship like these are things that are core to our human identity and, when you really get into the deepest depths of it, what we're talking about here is not just selling houses, right, this is not something that we're just like okay, well, and yeah, there's going to be agents who that's what they do. They want to sell a house here and there just to make some extra money. But if you are listening to this and you've been on this ride with me for a while you're not that type of person. You're looking to build a business and you care about people, you care about your family and you also care about your clients and the experience they have, and you want to be able to create better experiences, better opportunities for the people around you, and that right there, the desire to do that, is a form of ministry, and so, when we really continue digging into this, what I've come to realize is that the work that we do, and especially in the niche that I serve, which is inherited property, we still do some divorce, but really we have exploded in the inherited property space, and that is where I am continuing to sort of hang up my hat and say, like this, is it for our business? Um, the work that we do is sacred.
Alexa:We are literally reshaping the way that people grieve. We're reshaping the way that people let go of the memories, like for me, for example. I grew up with a bunch of cousins and whenever my cousins get together, we always reminisce on Mima's house, my grandmother's house, and how we used to play in her basement. Her basement was not that big, but there was like 15 of us that played kickball in her basement and her basement was basically like her storage, but we figured out how to make a way to kind of have our fun down there In her backyard. We played, capture the flag and like all the things right.
Alexa:So there's so many memories that are tied to that particular house that as we started digging further and further into this inherited property space, it became a realization that it wasn't just the value of what we were doing for the clients that was making a difference. It was who we were being in that process, the energy that we were embodying as we were going through this process with them, that made them go oh, wow, this is different. And so, as we've continued to lean into that, and we've really focused on not separating the spirituality, the beliefs, the heart of the business from the actual activity of the business. The energy of our team and our clients has completely transformed, and so the title of this episode is I think it's going to end up being like this is sacred work. What we do is sacred work, and when we can get people behind a mission like that and we can focus on not just selling a house, not just completing a transaction, but truly giving someone transformation through our services, that's where people really buy in.
Alexa:And so in this podcast, we have been talking, like I said, a lot about systems up until now, and those are still important, but that is only scratching the surface, and I'm finding myself continuing to be pulled in the direction of talking more about how to get people to buy into the movement, and that is a system in itself as well. And so this podcast, we're going to evolve the name to Sacred Work, and this is focused on not just the systems, not just the leadership, right, so the systems is the how, the leadership is the who, but also the why that we do this, and focusing on bringing agents into our world who are so passionately driven about making a difference and building a great business at the same time. Like to me, just making some money or completing a transaction feels kind of empty and feels kind of hollow, and so I want to be around agents and people and our referral partners who want to make a difference in this world. And so, if you're with me, like I said, this podcast is going to evolve to sacred work. This is literally step one of a massive, massive rebrand that we're going through and you're going to see it all come together.
Alexa:If you're keeping an eye on the client side of my business, you're going to start to see that showing up in the next couple of weeks and then, over the next couple of months, you'll see that sort of transformation come to the agent side of our business, because we have so much to give and I want to make sure that we stay on brand, and so I feel like I'm being a little cryptic at this point, but I promise you, just stick with us and you're just going to see it come together. And I promise you, if you're down for the ride and you believe that what we do is sacred work, stick around because we're about to blow your minds. So, with that in mind, that is the episode for today. As always, join us in our Facebook group at Business Systems for Realtors and, by the way, that's going to evolve too, and so, with that in mind, I will see you in the next episode. Bye.
