GAY and GHETTO EPISODE 6: DYKES
In this episode, Punkie Johnson gets real about being a dyke and the social dynamics that come with it, especially when it comes to men—particularly Black men. She breaks down how masculine-presenting gay women often face more resistance than feminine ones and questions why some men seem to take issue with dykes just existing.
She dives into the unwritten “Dyke Rules”—how growing up gay in New Orleans meant mirroring heterosexual roles, from how you dressed to who you dated. Punkie reflects on her own experiences navigating gender expectations, getting into fights, and eventually softening over time. She also explores how different regions have different gay cultures, realizing that not everywhere follows the strict butch/fem divide she grew up with.
Then, she flips the script, asking men a simple but hilarious question: How do y’all not understand that we love the same thing? She playfully unpacks why dykes pull “bad bitches,” why some dudes think they can “turn” a dyke, and why so many seem bothered by their existence.
With a mix of comedy, personal stories, and no-filter honesty, this episode is all about unpacking the dynamics between dykes, men, and society—while making sure everyone gets a good laugh. Its short and Sweet ENJOY!!
