Welcome back to Spirituality on the Go, the podcast where you can learn tools to put into your spiritual toolbox to live in the divine flow of inner peace, balance, wholeness. Today we're gonna dive into something that a lot of us feel from time to time: restless; that sense of restlessness that seems to be a constant hum of Unease. That feeling that we're always busy, busy, busy doing something, something, something. Our bodies are wound up. We jump from activity to activity. Always searching. Always looking for a peak experience. Feeling that no matter what we do, peace is always out of reach. And we end up feeling like a crazy squirrel chasing its tail, rushing through life, looking for clarity, connection, or simply a moment of calm. But here's a question. What if our restlessness isn't a problem to solve? What if restlessness is a road sign that's pointing us towards something deeper? An invitation to reconnect with the present moment, ourselves, and God; to center ourselves in our mind, body, and spirit in the present moment. Saint Augustine tells us that our hearts are restless until they rest in God. Augustine believed that our restlessness is a longing, a natural longing, for divine connection; a connection that's always present within us. But the fast pace and noise of life obscures that presence of the divine within us. That restlessness is in fact perhaps a gift. It's a traffic sign that when we notice it, points us inward to our deepest self, to stop and reconnect with our souls, our hearts. So if restlessness is an invitation, and it's a natural part of who we are, of how we're wired, how do we use the restlessness as a teacher, as a reminder to pause and reconnect with ourselves and live in the present moment? One way is through using the tool of meditation, those spiritual practices that we can pick up from time to time and use during times of meditation and also during the busy days of life when we need to slow down and reconnect. So let's take a moment, if you would, and I'd like to invite you into a quiet, guided meditation. A time where you can be present and allow your restlessness through this meditation to become an invitation to the present moment. So if you would, find a place to be comfortable and sit alone in the quiet for a few moments. Once you find that space, I invite you to close your eyes. Take a couple of deep breaths in and out. And notice your body. Notice how your skin is connecting to either the chair or couch you're sitting on. Just feel its touch upon your body. Now imagine as you sit there, in the quiet, with your eyes closed, noticing your breath, allowing your mind to sink into your heart space, imagine there's a soft, warm light that's glowing in the center of your chest. Notice this light within your chest. What does it feel like? What do you imagine? The light within your chest is like, what do you notice? You might feel a gentle warmth in your chest, maybe a soft glow. A radiance within that chest space there within you as the light fills your chest. This light is the light of Christ, the light of God within you, the divine presence, your soul. This is where your mind, body, and spirit are one within your heart space, your soul. A steady loving, radiant calm within you. Allow yourself to bask in that light, shining gently, warmly, glowing within you. Notice the light growing brighter within you. A little stronger, still gentle. But perhaps spreading throughout your body. Throughout your chest. Into your shoulders. Into your arms, throughout your whole body, as the warmth from that light within your chest expands gently into all of you, your entire Being. Allow yourself to rest in the light, the warmth flowing within you. If you notice any restlessness, or maybe your thoughts begin to race again, that's fine. That happens to all of us. Instead of fighting them, trying to shoo them away, simply acknowledge they're there. It happens to all of us. And let them just drift by like clouds in the sky. And then gently return to the felt sense in your body of that light in your chest. The warmth, the glow, the gentle presence. And when you're ready, slowly bring your awareness back to the room that you're in. Maybe wiggle your fingers and your toes, and then open your eyes. And notice. How do you feel? Have just these few moments of stillness allowed something to shift inside of you? Have you felt that restlessness calm, even for a few moments? Remember, through this experience, that you carry this light within you. You are the light of God, the Divine. Within you, you and the divine as one. And you can carry this light. You do carry this light within you throughout your entire day. It never goes out. It's always there. And by returning to this practice, even in the midst of the busyness of the day, you can notice the restlessness, whenever it appears, and see it as an invitation to pause; to notice the light, the warmth within your chest, radiating within you, calming you, centering you in your true self in God. May you carry this light within you, always, and return to it, an awareness of it whenever you need to, and allow this practice to help you find moments of calm even in life's busyness. May the restlessness be an invitation to the light that glows within you. The light of love.
