Episode 19: The Pull and the Call: Choosing What's Life-giving
Send me a text. What spoke to you in this episode?
Welcome to Spirituality on the Go — where sacred meets simple and everyday moments become invitations to go deeper with God.
In this short meditation, we explore a gentle but powerful practice: learning to discern the pull from the call.
The pull often comes with urgency, temptation, or confusion — it stirs the surface.
But the call is quieter. Deeper. Life-giving. It draws us toward what’s true, peaceful, and aligned with our soul’s purpose.
Today, we’ll rest in God’s presence and listen with our hearts — learning to choose what leads to life.
Take a breath. Settle in. And let this be a sacred pause in your day.

The pull and the call to what is life giving. Find a comfortable seat. Let your spine lengthen your shoulders. Soften your hands and rest them gently in your lap. Just notice your body. Be present in your body. Here. And now Next, close your eyes. Take a slow, deep breath in and exhale gently. Again. Inhale peace. Exhale, any tension. Feel yourself present in this moment here now, and know that the Holy Spirit is with you in this sacred space. Just you and God. God alone and you. You are safe. You are held, you are loved. You are God's beloved. Rest in God's love. Feel it gently tingle within your body, the presence of divine love in you. Next bring to mind. This simple phrase,"I feel the pull and the call to what is life giving. The pull and the call to what is life giving." Let those words echo in your heart. Ponder them gently in your heart space without thinking, just observing, noticing how they feel within your heart space. Begin to notice what are you feeling pulled toward right now in your life. What is pulling you, not just in this moment, but perhaps in your relationships, perhaps in your desires, the choices you are considering. Where do you feel a tug, a temptation, a curiosity, a tension. What stirs your interest? Even if it also stirs confusion. Just observe. No judgment. Only noticing what is pulling you, tugging at you. Now gently shift your attention into listening in your heart space to this question,"Where do you feel the call to what is life giving?" Not just in this moment, but in your life, the season of your life, what brings you peace, even if it's hard? What restores your sense of connection with God, your true self, your purpose? Where do you feel most at home in your soul in terms of what is calling you? Offer it a name, what is calling you that's life giving. Now take a breath. Imagine these two movements, the pull and the call as two rivers flowing. They may flow both through you, but only one of the rivers leads you home. Feel that truth rise in your chest and say to yourself, I choose what is life giving. Say it slowly with your whole being, mind, body, and spirit. Feel it echo within your being. I choose what is life giving. And notice what is the choice within you that's calling you, that is life giving. And let that river flow within you. That choice, the life-giving choice, the call to what is life-giving for you. Now in silence simply rest in God. There's no need to figure it out. Figure anything out, just be still and let God hold the parts of you that feel conflicted, curious, or tender. Just let God hold all of you, all of your emotions and your feelings, because they're just parts of you. Let God and God's love hold it all. Hold all of you. And as you close this meditation, perhaps offer this prayer, God of clarity and compassion. Thank you for the honesty of my heart. Thank you for the gentle way you show me what leads to life. Help me stay rooted in you to honor the longing without losing my center to follow the call, not the pull. To choose what is good, real, and true. What is life giving. Let your peace be my inner compass. Let love be my boundary and let you be my inner guide. In all of your holy names, God I pray. Amen.
