Discovered only through a pile of mislabeled cassette tapes at a Sudbury garage sale, the story of Bootstuck slowly unravels through scattered interviews, cryptic clues, and increasingly bizarre residents. The deeper you listen, the more you realize — this isn't just a town. It's a puzzle. And somewhere in that puzzle?
A plane crash that changed everything.

The documenteur, once again hanging by a thread of patience, tries to have a reasonable conversation while the residents of Bootstuck crawl around town “looking for scraps” and debating the difference between beets and beats. What begins as small talk about sore knees quickly dissolves into confusion about dance parties, water suppliers named River, and the discovery of Bootstuck’s newest local celebrity — Waving Tony, a man whose entire existence revolves around the art of waving.
Tony waves at everyone and everything, sometimes so fast it’s unclear whether he has one arm or four. The documenteur’s attempts to understand him — or anything — are met with Bootstuck’s signature logic: “Even when he’s not waving, he’s still Waving Tony.”
The conversation somehow spins further into news of a new “travel show,” which involves blindfolding participants, spinning them around, and abandoning them somewhere in the woods — Bootstuck’s idea of tourism. Amidst the chaos, a revelation emerges at last: the Bootstuck crew let slip that they’re actually in Ontario, a fact that sends the weary documenteur into near disbelief. After twelve weeks of uncertainty, he finally gets a concrete answer… only for the phone cord to cut out immediately afterward.

Speaker 00Well, I've been crawling around town looking for little strips and scraps falling underneath the table legs.
Speaker 01I see. Hungry, are you?
Speaker 00Yeah, more curious than anything.
Speaker 01I didn't know Jerry liked beets. You didn't like feet? Beets. Feet? Beets. Beets. Oh, like the the vegetable. Beets.
Speaker 00No, like the music. You don't like it. How's it going? Hides under the table.
Speaker 01I see. What kind of beats are you playing there at Bootstuck? You got some raids happening? All the bugs away. What's that keeps all the bugs away? Raid? No, raid, raid. You know, where you have glow sticks and you dance around and you get high and everything. Yeah. What? Who? Who's that?
Speaker 00You got a bad water guy. Let me set you up with my guy. We can get you water cheaper than that. His name is River. You ever meet him? He's a real nice guy. He's kind of flowy.
Speaker 01Oh, that's just hilarious. If we could get onto a serious subject, I'm curious.
Speaker 00Uh dinosaurs for a real thing. We should talk about them.
Speaker 01There's that, but I wanted to talk to you about there was some interference on one of the conversations we had, and I heard about Tony. Who's Tony?
Speaker 00Oh, waving Tony. You know him?
Speaker 01Waving Tony.
Speaker 00Yep. He stands there and waves at everybody walking by, running by, or even just standing nearby. Tony will wave at you quite nicely. Waving Tony.
Speaker 01Waving Tony.
Speaker 00Waving Tony. Woo! Even when he's not waving, he's still waving Tony.
Speaker 01Is he a good waver?
Speaker 00He's a great waver. You should drive by. He'll wave right at you.
Speaker 01Really?
Speaker 00Yeah, he's got a quick hand movement. Hard to tell if he's got four hands or one real fast hit.
Speaker 01I see. Yeah. Well, I so he gets his name because that's all he does is waving.
Speaker 00Well, he does other things too, but his primary source of uh providing entertainment or at least value to an entertainment is wave. He'll wave you in, he'll wave you by. Yeah. Oh, he'll wave right at you if you look like that. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 01I see. Okay. Well, uh, boy, I I have so many more questions.
Speaker 00That's all right. You can ask them another time. And then later we unlet it go, and all the jokes come out at one time.
Speaker 01Uh like a garden house?
Speaker 00Yeah, it works like that. You can scare a friend. Today's been a real good day, I gotta tell you. We had a lot of things happening here in the stuck. Well, I'd love to hear about them. Well, I'll tell you about it. All right. Let me go now. Here we go. Woo! First one is we made a nickname for bootstucks called the Snuck. Yep. You ever get stuck? Real stuck. That's where we is. Oh, not gonna get yourselves out of this gym. Doesn't matter how tiny baby hands you have to get inside that jar. It's gonna be messy. Woo! So heather things are coming to town. Like travel show. Yeah, we're gonna have a travel show. Yeah. Because the air show was a hit. So now we figured we'll travel people round a little bit. Come to the travel show, we'll put you on a blindfold system, spin you around, not we're gonna tell you how many times, and then we'll let you loose somewhere else in the woods or in town. Yeah. Now, well, what would you say if I said, uh oh what would you say if I said you want to go to the deep south? What would you think?
Speaker 01You want to go to the deep south or I do?
Speaker 00Maybe you. Deep South for me is like Toronto.
Speaker 01Toronto, you're familiar with Toronto.
Speaker 0030-hour drive from the big city. So you can probably get to Florida or to my place in about the same amount of time.
Speaker 01So you're in northern Ontario.
Speaker 00We're way up tuck, tuck, tuck, tuck, tight up north, cozy as can be when Rita comes, cold as can be every other day.
Speaker 01Okay. So you know that you're in Ontario then?
Speaker 00Wow, I never heard you sound so excited in your life. That sounds nice. Like you got a nephew or something that you didn't know about.
Speaker 01Well, you've answered a question, and I've been asking them for about 12 weeks.
Speaker 00Well, you ask them, I'll tell you. Sorry about that. It's probably the phone cord. What we do sometimes is we pinch the phone cord like this.
