The Mighty Philbert Podcast
Welcome to The Mighty Philbert — the channel where we dig deep, ask hard questions, and refuse to smile politely at bad theology. Whether you're crawling out of evangelicalism, recovering from purity culture, or just wondering why your Sunday school teacher thought dinosaurs rode the Ark, you're in the right place.
Hosted by a proud GenX survivor of church trauma and theological gaslighting, this channel serves up weekly doses of counter-apologetics, Christian deconstruction, and cultural commentary with a heavy side of sarcasm and '90s nostalgia. We’re talking real talk about religion, belief, and how to rebuild your worldview without all the baggage.
New episodes every week. Bring your questions, bring your doubts — and maybe your flannel.
Because sometimes faith needs a second opinion.

S03E16 Everything We Thought Would Kill Us in the 80s
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
If you grew up in the 1980s, you probably remember believing the world was out to get you. Nuclear war. Killer bees. Poisoned Halloween candy. Stranger danger. The Bermuda Triangle. Quicksand. Looking back, some of those fears were very real. Others were wildly exaggerated. A few were almost entirely myths. But every one of them shaped the way Generation X sees the world today.
In this episode, we're taking a humorous—but thoughtful—look back at the fears that defined our childhood and the lessons they left behind. Along the way, we'll separate fact from fiction, revisit some unforgettable moments in pop culture, and maybe even laugh at just how convinced we were that quicksand was waiting around every corner.
So grab your favorite snack, settle in, and let's revisit the decade that taught an entire generation to ask questions...and always keep one eye out for killer bees.
