In this episode, I dive into the critical importance of nurturing business relationships—and how neglecting them can lead to missed opportunities.

I share why personalized attention is key to maintaining strong connections and how leveraging an executive assistant can make all the difference.

By empowering your assistant to take ownership of relationship management, you can stay focused on big-picture growth while ensuring your network feels engaged, valued, and primed for future opportunities.

Hello friends, today I wanna get all up in your business and talk about your relationships.

Not just your personal ones, but the business connections that fuel referrals, partnerships, and growth.

If you've been too busy to nurture those connections, I've got you.

In this episode, we're gonna unpack the consequences of reactive networking and how to reclaim control without adding more to your plate.

Okay, life is good, business is booming, revenue was coming in on a consistent basis, your team is starting to work cohesively and your calendar is full.

But what about those critical follow-ups, client check-ins, or simple thank you notes?

Who is making sure that those don't fall through the cracks?

And if they are falling through the cracks, as your favorite executive assistant, I'm here to tell you over time the cost of those oversights will come back to bite you.

Let me break it down.

When follow-ups are forgotten, connections go dormant.

Remember that introduction or referral you needed?

It's never gonna happen because you were too busy and you let the relationship fade into the background.

Most, if not all within your network would really appreciate personalized attention. And when I think of personalized attention, I'm encouraging you to think past the automated happy birthday email.

Actually slow down and acknowledge significant milestones when they arise and check in on a regular basis to your network.

It's the little things that make a big difference in having a well curated network versus someone whose outreach is left unanswered.

Now when we consider brand perception, I want you to take in mind that this is not just for your clients. It includes the perception of those within your network as well.

Simple gestures like handwritten "Cheering You On" notes, or curated gifts can make your brand unforgettable.

Without them, your brand risks blending into the noise.

In the words of Chris Do, who was one of my favorite branding gurus, "the value of a brand lies in the emotional connection it creates with its audience."

Which means you need to consistently build trust and loyalty through authentic engagement with your clients and potential collaboration partners. And well thought out simple gestures are a great way to do this.

When relationships aren't nurtured, you miss out on potential collaborations, partnerships, and new opportunities.

That next big break, it might be sitting dormant in your inbox due to a relationship you were too busy to nurture.

So how do we flip the script as a busy serial entrepreneur or founder?

My suggestion is to turn to your executive assistant and pull them into your relationship management.

Let me paint the picture of what's possible.

Imagine your executive assistant owning this part of your business:

  • Tracking follow-ups and making sure no connection goes cold
  • Sending thought out check-ins or coffee invites
  • Recognizing milestones so birthdays, anniversaries or deals are never forgotten.
  • Curating gifts or crafting thank-you notes that makes those within your network feel truly valued

When your executive assistant proactively manages your network, they aren't just supporting you. They're strengthening the backbone of your business.

So just take 20 minutes and slow down and have a conversation with your executive assistant.

During this conversation, I want you to identify the budget for various gift types
and outline when your executive assistant should send them out on your behalf.

You have now empowered your assistant to send those on your behalf and provide updates during your weekly one-on-ones.

Let me share a quick story about how one of my clients has leveraged me in this way. They were drowning in their to-do list with an ever-growing list of connections they wish to acknowledge and milestones that they wanted to make sure were addressed as well.

So together we sat down and we created a system where I take full ownership of their relationship management. A budget was set and now I know every time invites are received, inviting my clients to celebrate someone's accomplishments, what to send if the client cannot attend, and what to send if the client does attend.

Let me say that again for the people in the back. Sometimes your presence is your present and other times you send a gift after you attend to stay top of mind.

We've taken the same framework and customized it to fit their team as well. This is imperative if you want to ensure your team continues to feel seen and valued. And for this client, it comes in the form of quarterly and annual dinners, company outings, thoughtful gifts, and more.

Now fast forward more than two years later, new partnerships continue to emerge from old connections we intentionally nurtured.

The team is happy and thriving, and this serial entrepreneur has the mental space to focus on their vision.

This is the power of a well-leveraged executive assistant!

So if you made it this far and you're thinking, well, yeah, this sounds exactly like what I need, here's your action step.

During your next one-on-one with your EA, have a conversation regarding relationship management, and how impactful it is for your business.

When people understand why, they are more inclined to help you with the how or the implementation.

And as a pro tip, start small.

Have your executive assistant organize your top 20 connections and create a plan to nurture them over the next quarter. You'll be amazed at their results. And if you have a really good executive assistant, this person should already know who your top 20 connections are. So they should be able to provide you with this list
the following week when you meet.

If you're still a one person show or a Solopreneur, I want you to consider partnering with someone who can take ownership of this process on your behalf.

And if you really wanna take it to the next level, partner with an executive assistant who loves to build community. This person will most likely have a Rolodex of their own connections that may prove beneficial for you and your future endeavors.

So in closing, remember, relationships are the lifeblood of your business.

When managed well, they fuel growth, build trust, and enhance your reputation.

By empowering your executive assistant to take ownership of assisting you in this critical role, you're not just freeing up your time, you're investing in future opportunities for your business to thrive.

That's a wrap, my friend.

Thank you for joining me for another episode of Scale Smart Stay Grounded. Until next time, remember, scaling your business doesn't have to mean sacrificing your sanity. You've got this, and more importantly, I'm here to help.
