How to Stop Worrying With One Simple Step
“Have you ever felt lost in worry, guilt, or fear? (1 John 3:8) ‘The Son of God entered the scene to abolish the Devil’s ways.’ That’s His mission.
“But what exactly is the Devil’s plan? He doesn’t come with red horns—he shows up in our thoughts. Thoughts like: ‘You’re worthless.’ ‘You’ve messed up beyond hope.’ ‘Something terrible is coming.’ That’s fear creeping in, and here’s the clincher—fear isn’t from God.”
Have you ever felt fear creeping in, doubting your worth, worried about tomorrow, trapped in guilt or shame? What if I told you that one truth could smash every anxiety holding you captive? Hi, I'm Dr. Beau Abernathy, a former pastor who's been seeing lives transformed by God's perfect love. Today, let's turn fear into freedom through scripture, stories, and very simple steps. Here's a scripture to anchor us. The Son of God entered the scene to abolish the devil's ways. 1 John 3, verse 8. That's from the message. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear. 1 John 4, verse 18. Here's the problem. Fear's grip is the enemy whispering, You're worthless. You'll never measure up. What if something horrible happens? These lies can steal your peace and joy. The truth is Jesus broke the chains. Hebrews 2, verses 14 and 15 reminds us Jesus took on flesh, died, and destroyed the one who had the power over death so that we might be set free from fear. When Jesus rose, he tore fear's power to pieces. His perfect love drives out every fear. Here's a real moment. As a hospice chaplain, I used to visit with elderly people all the time, those who were near death. And I met this lady who was 92 years old, and I asked her one time if she ever thought about the hereafter. And she said, Jesus is my Lord and Savior, and I think about heaven a lot these days because I'm closer to heaven than I ever was before in my life. So here are some practical steps to walk in love and not fear. Number one, name the fear. I'm afraid of failing. Here's what happens. You snap fierce power and expose it to Jesus. You replace it with truth. God's perfect love casts out fear. Your faith grows and lies are dismantled. So here's a step. Pray it out. Pray, Lord, fill me with your perfect love right now. And what happens is peace floods your heart. So here's another step. Speak it out. I am loved by God. Fear has no place. And what happens is you reinforce truth with your voice. Try it. Here are some hard questions you can ask yourself today. What fear is whispering in your mind today? How can you say no to that? And what Bible truth can replace it? For deeper help, grab our Fear vs. Faith journal sheet, a guided printable to name your fears and write Scripture beside them. A link is in the description below. Let me pray for you. Father, I admit my fear and confess it out loud. Thank you for Jesus, who crushed evil and conquered death. I choose to trust in your perfect love today. Drive out every fearful thought. Fill me with your peace. Amen. All right, your next step is to write it down, journal your fear, and next to it, write out God's truth that replaces it. Then share it. Tell a friend or a group so they can pray with you to overcome your fears. Choose faith. You're called to light, not fear. Jesus' perfect love is your anxiety. You're called to light, not fear. Jesus' perfect love is your victory. Let His joy spark your hope today. If this touched you, share your prayer below or send me a message. I'm here to walk with you on the victory side.
