Beis HaLevi #41 - The Praiseworthiness of Humility
Mazel tov on completing this limud! Thank you for joining us as we learn the Beis HaLevi on Anavah! Stay tuned for our next Sefer, beginning after Pesach.
Okay, everybody, welcome back to the Lech Dei Chmuzer podcast. We are about to conclude the incredible Sefer of the Bais Alevi on Anava. We conclude with chapter 18, parak Yurches. We're going to talk about the praiseworthiness of Anava, of humility. Gam Yisbayin, adah M'shevach, anava Gigadahu.
Speaker 0:A person should contemplate how praiseworthy humility is. K'iz B'Soita, as it says in the Gemara Saita Come and see how great are the lowly of spirit. Before Hashem Adam, a person would bring an oil, and he received the credit for having brought an oil. If he had in mind he intended to bring a carbon mincha, it's as if he bought the karbem mincha itself. However, about someone whose attitude is humble, he's in on of the Torah regards him as though he brought all of the karbonis entirely. As it says in the Pasuk, the sacrifices of Hashem are a broken spirit. So when a person has a broken spirit, he's a shva ruach, he's an onov. Then all of the sacrifices are considered to have been brought on his behalf. Not only are all the kabanas brought on his behalf, but additionally, his prayer is not despised by Hashem. Prayer is not despised by Hashem. Sh'nemar leiv, nishbar, v'nedikeh, le'kim lo'y, sivzeh, hashem or not, despise his tefillah, v'sham Isa. And it also says in the Gemara on Saita Ein divrei teir miskayim enal b'mi sh'meisim atzim e'kim misha'inoy. The words of teir endure only in one.
Speaker 0:Who makes himself, as it says in the Pasuk, from nothingness, meaning a person who makes himself as if he's nothing, will Torah be found Torah? A person who makes himself like a wilderness so that he's available to everyone. Who wishes to learn Torah from him, the Torah is given to him as a gift. One should always be out in the dark. Wishes to learn Torah from him? The Torah is given to him as a gift. V'masech es an hedgen da'omer v'lazer. La'olam hevik habal v'kayim. One should always be out in the dark, meaning out of the spotlight, and he will live. V'sham shalchum mitam eizu ben olam haba.
Speaker 0:The Gemara over there says who is destined to be a ben olam haba to share, have a share in the world to come, the Gemara over there says in Saita one who is modest and humble and who enters bowing and leaves bowing, one who reviews Torah constantly and does not take credit for himself. And in the Saita, the Gemara says V'shecha Sava Nezora Amar V'shu Melevi. V'shu Melevi says Humility is the greatest attribute of all of them. For, it says in the Pasuk, for he has anointed me to bring tidings of redemption to the humble ones. It doesn't say the pious ones or the righteous ones, rather it says the humble ones. What do we see from here? You learn from here that humility, that anova, the midah of anova, is greater than all of the other midahs enumerated by Pinchas, ben Yair, hajj and aloch sefer. Beis alevi, al anova, v'dayet achalan.
Speaker 0:We finished the entire series of the Mamarim, the Shlesha Mamarim. We bowed Beis Alevi on Ahavah, sisrael on B'tochen, and now we just finished Alanova.
