What if happiness isn’t something you chase but something that grows when you’re planted well? We explore a grounded, spiritual vision of joy through Psalm 1—reading it in two translations—and trace how a life rooted in God’s word becomes steady, fruitful, and quietly resilient. From the opening reminder that Christ depended on the Holy Spirit and gives us that same Helper, we build a practical map for daily peace that holds when circumstances don’t.

We break down the habits that shape delight: meditating on Scripture until it moves from information to formation, choosing counsel that steers our steps, and avoiding the slow slide into cynicism. Then we go deeper than self-help into the core ingredients of lasting joy: balance that resists burnout and empty thrills, values that prize truth over trend, and relationships that seek others’ good instead of using people as props. You’ll hear why money can stage a party but can’t deliver peace, why power can collect applause but never cure loneliness, and how delighting in God reorders desire from the inside out.

Finally, we widen the frame with purpose and hope. The happiest people are absorbed in worthy work and loving service, often forgetting to check whether they’re “happy” at all. Christian hope stretches that purpose into eternity: the tree planted by streams endures seasons, bears fruit in time, and does not wither because its root is fed. If you’re longing for joy that doesn’t evaporate by Monday, this conversation offers a path—walk in the Spirit, hunger for righteousness, and let your life be planted by living water. If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs encouragement, and leave a quick review to help others find it.

We give him the praise for what he has shown us, we what he has taught us. We live because of him. He has given us the spirit to dwell within. Christ, while he lived on earth, he depended upon the Holy Spirit to do God's will. He left us too with the Holy Spirit to be active in our life as we serve Him, as we walk with Him. We do not walk alone. He's always with us, within us. Praise God. Praise God. He has given us an understanding of His will. We have been invited into the new and living way. The gift that He has given us of His Spirit. He instructs us to walk in the Spirit. Walking in the Spirit will we will not fulfill the loss of the flesh. It is true once we understand and allow ourselves to be governed by Him. Praise God. What is happiness? What is happiness? We're going to talk to you tonight on the subject. What is happiness? I want you to turn with me to Psalms one. I remember Psalms have no chapters. So it's just Psalms one. Psalm two, three, four, not chapter. In Psalms one, I'm going to read it from the James Version. And also I'm going to read it from the New American Standard, the translation of Psalms 1. What is happiness? I wanted to tell you, show you up front that Psalms 1 does not define happiness. What it does, it shows us happiness and how to live a happy life. Listen carefully. Meditate. Let's do that. Psalms one. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is under the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth fruit in his season. His leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so, but like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous, for the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Psalms one from the King James version of the scriptures. Now I want to read those verses from the American Standard version of the Scriptures. How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, but stand in the path, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful. But his light is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither, and whatever he does he prospers. The wicked are not so. Meditate upon. It tells you need to meditate. Meditate with thinking. Literally needs to mutter, mutter to yourself. God's will that's given to us in writing. The writer of Psalms one does not attempt to define happiness. He illustrates it. He shows us that happiness is not in our circumstances. It is in ourselves. Happiness primarily concerns not the externals of life, but the condition of our spiritual health and the degree of our intimacy with God. The first, happiness is a matter of proper balance. Not only does all work and no play make Jack a dull boy, it is also apt to develop him into a neurotic, cross-grained man. People who enjoy being sad are not saintly. On the other hand, pursuing pleasure for pleasure's sake is equally harmful. To make the quest of pleasure, the whole end of living is to come to court disillusionment. Modern socialites, slave to their good times. In fact, they are slaves to their good times. They are merry, but they are also tired, nervous, and bored. The point of these examples is that one like must have balance. One's alike must have balance if he or she is to be happy. Secondly, happiness is a matter of true sense of values. Happiness is the ability to appreciate the best things, the highest values. Happiness depends on other factors besides merely having a good time. That happiness can be bought by those who have the price is a popular heresy today. But it is a heresy. The truth is it can be gained only by those who have the money. Thirdly before I get to three. Happiness is a matter of ongoing interest. We must be interested in other people. To eat and drink may make one merry, but it is more fun if one eats and drinks with someone else. Think about it. Happiness is a product of relationships. No individual can attain real happiness alone. However, we must have their welfare in mind. Notice what I said. Their welfare in mind, not the lust of the flesh. To be happy, we must consider the other person's right to be happy. No one can build happiness on someone else's unhappiness. We must be dedicated to a cause worthy to claim our best. The happiness, the happiest people are those who are so immersed in some great cause that they don't notice if they are happy enough. These are the people, the singing hearts. You get to the heart of the religion, you will find a song. True happiness is the most pervasive herald of the gospel. Oh, the gospel brings it to the world. Millions live unhappily because while they have something to live on, they like the supreme condition of a happy life, something to live for, something to life for. Many hear their testimonies sometimes don't have anything to life for, so they have sad testimonies. God wants you and me through his son to live the life of peace. He came to earth to bring peace. He wants to live peacefully. Praise God. Lastly, happiness is a matter of Christian hope for the future. If we are to be happy, our lives must be pointed in the right direction. Deep down in our hearts, we know that we are immortal. English philosopher once said, We do not believe in immortality because we can prove it. We try to prove it because we believe in it everywhere, in every culture. The faith in an eternal tomorrow exists. The universal verdict of humankind is that this light is not all there is. For the Christian, the rainbow of a larger hope rims the horizon of eternity. Praise God for what he has done for us. We give him the praise. In conclusion, blessed are happy are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. They will be filled. Matthew five and verse six. All other quests in infertility. Those who are hungry for pleasure becomes disenchanted and bored. Those who are hungry for possessions drop the keys to their safe deposit boxes when they die. Those who lust for power, even if they gain it, are robbed of their scepters and shown of their royal purple when night comes. Not once, but again and again, as spiritual appetite returns. You give God the praise, for in this psalm is a psalm of expression. All happy is the person, the man and the woman who meditate upon the word of God, who strives to do God's will with God's help. And that is the reason why you and I as Christians have been given the Holy Spirit, testify to what God has done for us. And we will understand what it means to be happy. And we say, Oh happy, happy. God has given me happiness, and when we understand it, you observe your own life and the life of others who we bring help by living the life that God wants us to live through his son. And his son says to you to me, if you want to be happy, follow me, and I will give you life. Praise God. Let us pray. For the happiness, the blessings you have given us as we walk with you. We thank you for the Holy Spirit, Lord, that you have granted us the new and living way, realizing that you live in us and we live in you. Lord, we ask your continual blessings upon us as we continue to love you for what you are doing in our lives and what you have done at the beginning of our Christian walk. Us to continue to walk to help others that others who seemingly sad might be happy as we live together in the kingdom and following kingdom principles. We pray for the families of the church to report those that heads families. Give them the courage to keep standing with your spirit. Help and help each man to do what he's called to do. Help him to be strengthened with the spirit that you have given him. Pray for the female, that you bless her, each one that will do what they are called to do in your kingdom. Lord, we want happiness to be in the lives of each Christian continually. You have given us your spirit to cause us to live in happiness, not in sadness. Give us peace in ourselves and help us that we may be peaceful toward others, so that they may be able to learn that peace is.
