So Glad You Asked with Dr. Ruta Nonacs
Motherhood comes with a million questions. So why is it so hard to get real answers? Why does society tell moms to just “push through,” like it’s just part of the job? And when moms do ask for help, why is the first place we turn to Google? Why are we left scrolling social media or scouring the internet for answers?
That's why we created "So Glad You Asked with Dr. Ruta Nonacs," a show where you bring your toughest maternal and mental health questions to top experts and get real, evidence-based answers and actionable resources.
Co-hosted by Dr. Ruta Nonacs, a clinical psychiatrist at Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and Allie Hales, a mom of four, this show isn't just for real moms, it's by real moms. Because moms don't just deserve support, they deserve solutions—whether before or during pregnancy, postpartum and beyond.
Each episode we take on questions that keep moms up at night. Every conversation is led by YOU. Your questions, your experiences, your mental health—front and center. No question is too small. No topic is off-limits. You ask. We answer.

Listener 1
I’d like to ask Dr. Ruta a few questions about maternal mental health, specifically around what she knows about perinatal OCD and how that affects the mother, the baby, and the family.
Allie Hales
Welcome back to So Glad You Asked with Dr. Ruta Nonacs and me, Allie Hales! If you’ve ever found yourself searching for answers in the middle of the night…you’re not alone. Last season, we opened the door for moms to ask the questions they’ve been holding in. Personally, I felt like I learned so much about postpartum anxiety, postpartum depression, postpartum OCD, postpartum psychosis, what the differences are, and it made me so helpful about the sheer number of resources, medications, therapies that are available to help.
Dr. Ruta Nonacs
This season, we’re continuing to explore the topics that matter most to you through in-depth conversations with leading experts.
Allie Hales
We have an amazing roster of guests this season. We will be talking with Emily Oster about what happens when pregnancies and postpartum don’t go as planned. We will also be talking with Pooja Lakhsmin about mental health in the context of infertility.
Dr. Ruta Nonacs
And we will be talking about miscarriage, postpartum psychosis, postpartum anxiety, and treatments for depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period. And we’re not forgetting about partners and their mental health.
Expert 1
Well, I think it’s important to incorporate understanding the value of partners. If the person is the other parent, they’re there to be able to be a team player in adjusting to this new role for both of them.
Allie Hales
This is important.
Dr. Ruta Nonacs
And it deserves real attention.
Expert 2
You know, there’s like almost, there's no other period in somebody's life when we know they're gonna be at much as risk for a mental health condition than after the birth of a child.”
Allie Hales
