Victor Spiritual Teachings Chapter five The Inner Conflict When the spiritual awakening begins there is a great inner conflict and it takes a lot of courage and strength to walk through the obstacles that come your way. Many people are confused and postpone this conflict, and when it starts many want to flee and isolate themselves from everything and everyone. This is the inner fear, the fear of dealing with oneself. As already mentioned, the spiritual side of man is based on the soul, the ego and the mind. Until now the ego has mostly dominated the individual, keeping him in fear in some form, often causing him unnecessary worry. The ego is connected to the worldly and creates temptation and desire of that kind. The ego is independent and takes care of its role, making sure that the individual stay away from the spiritual matters. When the ego is in power and controls the person's life, the mind and the ego are interconnected and form the individual's behavior and thus dominate the person's thoughts, words and actions for the most part. The ego feeds the mind on fear, which often leads to negative thoughts that in turn feed the ego and keep it in control. This interaction continues until the individuals take the reins. Few people know about this so few people take the reins, and the effect of the ego therefore remains constant. While the ego is nourished, the soul is malnourished to the side, while positive and loving thoughts nourish the soul and balnourish the ego. The ego reacts to such things and sends off fearful thoughts that pull the individual back to an earlier state and the ego does not let go so easily. Spiritual awakening is mostly about permanently pushing aside the ego and allowing the soul to emerge to unite soul and mind. When this has been achieved, the person's thought changed and become more loving and positive in every way. Such a person is loving because the fear has been put aside, and he is positive and happy. He has found the inner happiness that is dependent on no one and that no one can take away from him. This transformation from an egoic mind to living on the soul side of life comes of a great cost of inner conflict because the ego reacts and fights for its existence. It tries with all its might to dissuade the individual from entering spiritual paths and to stop the spiritual awakening and opening. When the awakened person has become aware that positive and loving thoughts help him feel good in his life, then he begins to adopt them. But then the ego reacts with fear and negative thoughts, and the person does everything he can to maintain positivity and love in his thoughts. This is a great conflict and puts a lot of strain to the individual, but with determination the ego will eventually give in, the soul will take over, and the soul and the mind will unite. Also the ego can create a lot of anxiety in the person with associated suffering and discomfort. During this time the person will experience the great fear and often the greatest anxiety they have ever experienced in their life, but they will also experience a lot of love within themselves greater than they have experienced before. This happens when the ego and the soul take turns controlling the person's life as well as their thoughts and actions and words. The egoic happiness and joy that everyone has experienced is temporary. It slowly runs its course and worries and fear return. Such happiness is dependent on others and therefore built on a weak foundation. This has been called building your house on ascent. When a storm hits the house collapsed to the ground. The happiness that the soul creates is eternal and stand on a solid foundation because such happiness comes from within and is dependent on nothing and no one. Such a house is built on a rock and can withstand all weather and winds. It is important during this state of spiritual awakening to be mindful of one's thoughts, action and words. One must always direct them towards love and positivity, and thread oneself and others with love and of if this is done long enough the transformation begins to take place. Also the person needs to be aware of the fear is an illusion and only figment of the mind and the ego. It is a good idea to review your thoughts and behavior in the evening in order to stay on track. It can be difficult to always be loving because the people you interact with are different. But it is important to keep calm and balanced in every trial and not be tempted to fall into negativity and evil. Even if you experience such behavior, a person who has begun to analyze his thoughts, actions and words has awakened to a consciousness of himself. He also begins to sense and read the emotions that arise. One of the things that the ego does is pull down all the spirituality. An example of egoistic thinking that springs up in the persons who has awakened is this spiritual matters is just nonsense. There is no proof for any of this, so it is best to stay away from it. Many people will experience such thoughts at the beginning of the spiritual awakening, and often doubts arise, which can lead the person slowing down or stopping altogether. This is the insidious fear that is a master of deception and deceives people repeatedly. Fear holds people in chains and is controlled by the ego and the egoistic mind, which always leads to suffering and distress of some kind. To free themselves from these shackles the person must push aside the ego and the fear and instead nourish the soul and activate the love within. There is also another obstacle beside the one that lives within each one, which is the people around us. Closest relatives and friends often try to minimize and downplay spiritual issues and may react in a negative way when the newly awakened person comments on his or her experiences with loved ones. This is all normal and the neighbour should not be judged for such behavior and reaction. There are natural explanation for this. Here is his ego at work which tries to pull both parties away from the spiritual. The person in question shall not be judged for such conduct nor allowed to be disturbed by it. It's best to ignore this and not let it interfere with your journey. The newly awakened person is not standing on a strong foundation yet, so little is needed to disturb or hinder the journey. This is only in the beginning, but gradually the person becomes stronger and eventually stands strong on his convenience of the right path in life. A person who has just woken up is not sure if this is the right path or not, because the ego and mind is constantly trying to keep the person away and make him believe that the spiritual path is not the right one. Due to negativity influences from others, the person tends to withdraw at the beginning of the awakening, but this will then change as the progresses. There are also many things in the society that have a limited effect on a spiritual awakening and opening. The dominant forces at any given time are egoistic and governed by the fear so love is often far away. Here it is the fear of losing power and one's position in society. This comes from the greed that often accompanions younger souls, but greed is the driving force that drives the young souls forward, and are often very productive and accomplished a lot. Younger souls often aspire to power, fame and prominence, and there is a little or no interest in spiritual matters. The mainstream media and their news coverage cover little or nothing about spiritual issues, and they often breed fear that creates divisions among the people because the ego is dominant in this environment. A person who has awakened to consciousness of himself and his environment quickly noticed that there is a little or no discussion of spiritual matters in the society and its systems. Little or nothing in the school system nor in the news or other media. Therefore doubts can arise on those who are awaken, up or having recently woken up. As has been discussed, there is much that works against the spiritual journey and little that supports the persons in the process. The voice in the head constantly urges the person to stop, closest relatives and friends often react in a negative way and there is no support in the society in general. It therefore takes a lot of willpower and determination at the beginning of the awakening and when the opening is about to begin. Despite all this negativity and all the impulses that encourage the person to turn back, it is the voice of the soul, the inner wisdom that calls and encourages the person to continue the journey and one thing is certain the spiritual path and the journey are the only true way. The inner conflict between soul and the ego which is shocking at first has a great effect on the awakened one. This has a great impact on the mood and emotions of the person, and great emotional fluctuations occur. The person will experience great sadness, joy, anger, fear, anxiety and a great imbalance within themselves, and these feelings will arise much stronger than before. Often there is a short time between crying and laughing. It is good to be alone with yourself, go for a good walks and allow all the feelings that live in your heart to come to the surface. At this point in the process the determination of the awakened is severely tested, as is the strength to fight against the adversity that the spiritual awakening receives from all directions, but most of all from within, from one's own ego, which is the greatest obstacle that must be overcome. Therefore it is important to be aware of your thoughts, push negative thoughts away when they appear, and draw your mind into positivity and love. If the negative thoughts are not addressed as soon as they occur, they intensify, and the awakened person can go off track for a while. This does a little more than delay the journey and the process, only causing the person suffering and distress. If doubts arise about the spiritual path, whether it is the right one and whether it might be the best to wait a while, then these are the thoughts from the ego to show doubts. The thought of giving up will come up many times and it will put a great strain on the determination of the awakened one. All of this is one of the many manifestations of the fear that emanates from the ego.
