Hello everyone! In this episode of DIY Salvation, I'm going to be introducing to you my book called Glosser. It's a book on prayer. The subtitle is Harnessing the Power of Tongues for a Vibrantly Colorful Life. It is available on Sella and on Amazon. But today I'm going to be reading you the introduction. In our next episode, I'm going to be reading you the first chapter, which is something that is very, very dear to me. So I would like to share that with you. And if you find these readings interesting or you learned something very deep from them, I would advise you to go get yourself a copy. Alright, because this book it's everything that I've learned about prayers in the past couple of years. I'm sure, well, God is still teaching me more, so it's possible that the second edition or maybe a part B of it is going to be out in later years. But this is all that I know about praying in tongues, and I wanted to go get a copy. So the introduction is titled Glossa, and the anchor verse is Mark chapter 16, verse 17. It says, And these signs shall follow them that believe in my name shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues. I stumbled upon the power of praying in tongues very much later in my walk with God. Yet the benefits that I have received from this one thing are far more reaching than all other spiritual exercises that I have ever practiced. In my experience, all my other spiritual gifts have been revealed, unveiled, or developed through the power of tongues. Without the gift of tongues, I would have little or no experience exercising my gifts of faith, my gifts of healing, my gifts of teaching, of preaching, of miracles or of casting out demons. When I was growing up, I had disdained the gift of praying in tongues. My eldest half-sister was the first person who became born again in my home. We were born Anglicans, and although my father frequently presented sermons in church on Sunday services, he vehemently disagreed with the teaching on tongues and he will often call it heresy. So you can imagine when my sister came home one day and she was born again and speaking in tongues, all hell broke loose at home. To make matters worse, whenever my parents would call her out on domestic negligence, she would immediately respond by speaking loudly in other tongues. Of course, this infuriated my father, it infuriated my mother even more. And for many years the subjects of speaking in tongues became taboo at our home. So I viewed speaking in tongues with contempt because it seemed to divide the family whenever it was brought up. I didn't understand it, and that made me speak evil of it. The Bible warns us about speaking evil about what we do not understand. 2 Peter chapter 2, verse 12. But these people speak evil of the things that they do not understand, and they shall utterly perish in their corruption. Well, thank God that many years after my sister had received the gift of tongue, I also became unorthodox, or as it was popularly known, Pentecostal. I caught religion, and my father was afraid that I had joined the fanatics. In the small but vibrant church that I had joined back then, which was called Faith Power Ministries, I was taught that the gift of the Holy Spirit came with the evidence of speaking loudly in other tongues. My Bible teacher back then was a funny chap who I later fondly called Uncle Benji. Uncle Benji made the teaching very simple, concise, not so serious, especially because he smiled a lot and he shared several stories of people speaking in tongues. And at the end of the class, I yearned for the gift. I'm telling you, one of such people he told me about actually became my friend. And I visited her often to hear from her directly about her experience of you know receiving the Holy Spirit and speaking loud in other tongues. And she shared her testimony over and over again with me. And the more she shared, the more I yearned for the gift. But I didn't speak in tongues in the following weeks, months passed, and everyone else I had the class with now had the gift of the spirit, but me. You know, strangely enough, back then, churches would not lay hands on you for you to receive the Holy Spirit, right? They would only just teach you, you know. I don't know about other churches, but that was my experience. So, because I I think I would have been able to avoid all the hurdles that I faced, you know, with receiving the gift. If someone had just laid hands on me later on, I mean, over the years, if I lead somebody to Christ, I immediately lead them to speak in tongues. I don't even wait for them, you know, like I don't wait, I just do it instantly as they give their lives to Christ. I, you know, pray for them to receive the Holy Spirit, lay hands on them, they receive, they speak, and then we we go on. So, but for me, it took this long process. Again, remember that revelation is progressive. So maybe back then they didn't know they could lay hands on people for them to receive the Holy Spirit, but at least there were teachings about it. Okay, so I didn't speak in tongues in the following weeks, months passed, and everyone I had the class with now had the gifts, but me, I prayed and begged God for it. I prayed, but it still didn't happen. One day, something tragic happened. There had been a bloody war between our village and a neighboring village. Back then, such wars were really quite frequent between the two communities. Well, it was reported that some prominent men from my village were being kidnapped, and the king of our community, who was back then a proactive, handsome man, you know, so he sent soldiers, himself included, to get my parents to safety. Okay, so here we were in the house, you know, it was 7 p.m. My mom and my dad came back home, you know, from work, but then suddenly there was commotion. You know, the gates opened, there were cars that uh drove in somewhere parked outside. Okay, and then there were all these men who came in, and then soldiers also. First, these men looked stoned with bloodied red eyes, and they each all held machine guns. To make matters worse, they were with some of my father's and strange relatives, and my mom, upon seeing them, she pulled me aside and said, pray. Because at this point, we do not know if we're going to return home safely, because our enemies are amongst the people that are trying to save us from even greater enemies. So, of course, I was distraught. My heart sank. I was only 14 years old, so I ran to the back of the house to pray. You know, back then I was I was a Christian already, I was a born-again Christian, okay? And I I knew my walk with God, but I wasn't speaking in in tongues yet, like I told you. So I ran to the back of the house to pray. My lips could form no words, my heart was heavy, but my lips could form no words. I tried again. This time I began to pray in a language that I had never heard before. It took me a little while for my brain to understand what had just happened. When I realized it, I screamed and I jumped. I did it, I did it. Then I tried again, it was still there. So I continued speaking loud in other tongues. At that point, the overwhelming fear that I had felt suddenly was replaced by overwhelming joy. Because I was so excited and ecstatic that the Holy Spirit was now in me. Because back then, this is these are the things that we believe. We believe that only when you receive this gift of tongues, only when you start to speak in tongues, that's when you have the Holy Spirit. Although for me, my experience was different because up until this time, I would already started talking with God. You know, I would already started asking him weird questions like what kind of how do I wear my hair today? You know, what kind of dress should I pick today? What color am I going to wear? And he was already picking my like making color combinations for my clothes for me. You know, he was just, he was already answering, you know, he was playing with me basically. So I was already cool with the fact I didn't have serious problems. Apart from that, I wanted my parents to be saved, but I didn't really have that much serious problems, right? But God was already talking to me, like we're already communicating. So this would be like one of the biggest issues that I faced in my life at that time. Okay. So when I started praying in tongues, I was so happy. My heart was troubled, but when my mouth couldn't find the words, my spirit, the inner man, began to pray. First Corinthians chapter 14, verse 14. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. That night I gathered my siblings. Ours was a large family of 12 at the time, and we prayed and we sang earnestly. My siblings didn't know what had happened, and I didn't want to tell them so as not to scare them. So I carried the burden alone. But thankfully, I knew how to lay it all at the feet of Jesus. So I put the children to sleep. My siblings were quite young then. So I put them to sleep and I stayed off to continue praying. There were on uniform soldiers stationed outside and around our home, and I kept looking out of the windows, fearing what may be fall lost that night. But that night the Lord spoke to me from Psalms 127 from verse 1 to 2. It literally came to me as a scripture. This is the reason why you have to read your Bible. Like you have to memorize scriptures, you have to read your Bible, you know, or at least be familiar with it. Okay. Be familiar. I can't really preach much about human memorizing scriptures because I I myself I find it difficult memorizing scriptures, you know, just like I'm really terrible with numbers. But be familiar with it, with the scriptures. So what I mean is meditate on scriptures so much so that it comes natural to you. You didn't actually do a you didn't do a memory work on the scriptures, but you meditated upon it until it dropped in your spirit so that you can easily find it. So I've I was the kind of person back and then in school that anybody could ask me if you if you don't know, because we didn't have AI back then, we didn't have all these Bible apps and all of those things back then, right? But if you asked me a place in this a particular scripture, I know where to find it. Okay. I always knew where to find it. Even if I was not memorizing scriptures, I can quote scriptures, okay? So I know what the Bible says, it has become part of me. I'm also someone who likes things that work, you know. I don't want a dead religion. I want to see how I can apply what you're telling me to my life so that I can get results, right? So let the Bible become a part of you, let the scriptures become a part of you. That means you need to meditate on it. Meditation is a big word for you to sit down and think about what you just read. Okay? Think about it so much that like personalize it to yourself so much so, and then begin to speak it until it becomes part of you. So that when somebody says something nasty to you, is the scripture rises up in your spirit. That's what I mean. Anyway, so the Lord spoke to me from Psalm 127 for verse 1 to 2, and he said, Except the Lord build the house. They labor in vain that build it, except the Lord keep the city, the watchman wicked, but in vain. It is vain for you to rise early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows, for so he giveth his beloved sleep. And the Lord told me that night, there's no point in you trying to watch over the situation because I am obviously at work. Wow. So that scripture came alive to me in the light of my circumstances. Because I mean, even the watchmen that were outside the house, they worked in vain in the light of God's promise of protection. It didn't matter that they were stationed out there, as long as God was protecting me and protecting our home, protecting my parents, their efforts were actually wasted. Do you see? So I laughed when I read the scripture. My burden became light and I slept soundly. Indeed, God gives his beloved sleep. The next day, my parents were returned, nothing was heard of the attempted attacks again, and really that was the last time that I heard of those two communities in such a bloody war ever again. But this was the beginning of my adventures with God. For the gift of tongues opened up so many channels of wisdom, of understanding, and revelations in God. The phrase speak with tongues was first used in scripture in the opening verse that we read. Mark chapter 16 from verse 14 to 20. It contains Jesus' ascension speech. Jesus had appeared to the eleven disciples, rebuking them for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they didn't believe those who saw him after his resurrection. Afterwards, he commissioned them to go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature. And those who believe and are baptized will be saved, while those who do not believe will be condemned. Note this certain signs will follow those who believe. And what are these certain signs? He says, They will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues, they will handle serpents without harm, they will drink deadly things without harm, and they will lay hands on the sick to see them recover. So I want you to understand that these signs that God said we're going to exhibit as believers, they are actually independent of one another, right? Because the way it was mentioned, casting out demons was mentioned alongside speaking with new tongues. So it is possible for you to be able to cast out demons and not be able to speak in tongues. Yes. You can handle serpents without harm and yet have never spoken in tongues one a day in your life. Yes. You can drink deadly things and they will not hurt you. And you can lay hands on the sick and you will see them recover and yet you have never spoken in tongues for one day, right? So I'm saying this because a lot of believers think that if you don't pray for long times, like long periods of time, that it affects your authority. No, your authority in Christ is very different from being endued with power. Okay? Your authority in Christ is very different. It's something that is latent in you, it's something that God gave you as a free gift. You don't need to do any extra about it. Even praying in tongues, speaking in tongues is also a free gift. But you see, that's the reason why you need to go by this because I cannot, I can't, I can't share everything in one episode. There's just a lot of information. What speaking in tongues does for you. I want to remind you of the name of the book, Glossa. Glossa from Glossalalia. And it is harnessing the power of tongues for a vibrantly colorful life. There is something that tongues do for you. There are things that tongues do for you. And you would be harnessing when you once you get this book, you will learn how to harness the power of tongues for you to be able to live a vibrantly colorful life. Right. So these things are independent of one another, but when you pray in tongues, it's a different thing altogether. There's something it also does for you. So after Jesus spoke to the disciples, Jesus ascended into heaven, sitting at the right hand of God. The disciples then spread out, preaching everywhere, and the Lord confirmed their words with signs following. So speaking in tongues is among the signs of the believer, alongside with casting out demons, handling serpents, and even immunity to poisonous substances. These are the signs that true Christians should display. If you're a Christian and then you touch poison and it affects you, you don't have immunity. There's something wrong. And it's not with your praying. The thing is not, the thing that is wrong is not with your with your praying. You know, you've heard this said several times that a prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian. It's not true because I've told you, once you have your authority in Christ, you already have power, okay? But there's something that speaking in tongues will do for you, which can be more, it can amplify it, okay? It can it can give you more results, it will increase you in every way possible. But let me tell you, it is consciousness of these things that give you the manifestations. If you're conscious that you're above demons, you will cast them out. But listen to DIY salvation, right? And you already know your place in Christ. You know that you're seated above in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. You already know how far below the devil is. Okay? You know where he is does not even compare to where you are. Do you understand what I'm saying? Then once you're conscious of it, you will be able to cast out demons. It's just consciousness is the model of manifestation. It's the consciousness that gives you the manifestation that you're looking for. If you want to read more about consciousness, I have a book titled Co-Perception. It tells you everything you need to know about consciousness and it will help you to really know how to walk. Sometimes all this, you know, going helter skelter, I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do, it's just because you're not conscious of a particular truth of the word of God concerning what you are dealing with. That's why meditation is very important because meditation gives you consciousness of who you are in Christ, what you can do in Christ, what you have in Christ. Glory to God. So these are the signs that true Christians should display. Ironically, the signs of Christians, ironically, the signs of Christians that are often paraded merely point to outward appearances such as specific clothing, jewelry, and hairstyles. The term speaking in tongues originates from two Greek words lalio, which means to vocalize and to exercise speech, and glosa, which implies a language that is not naturally acquired. Scientifically, speaking in tongues is now known as glossalalia, combining the two Greek words. Thus the spiritual gift is referred to as the gift of tongues, which is glosa. And when you use it as a verb, it is called speaking in tongues, which is glossalalia. Okay? So this concept inspired the title of this book and this introductory chapter. Many books have been written about understanding the gift of tongues, amongst which I will recommend the title by Kenneth E. Hagen, Tongues the Upper Room, which is a discourse on everything you need to know about tongues. However, in this book, I will be sharing with you the power of praying in tongues. In my walk with God, I have always been fascinated with how things worked and how I would make them work in my life for greater results. I've often wondered why tongues were important in the scheme of things, and I know you have wondered as well. And the following chapters of this book testify of how these truths worked in my life. These are my interactions with the power of the gift of tongues, and my prayer is that you, as you read, you will also have a deep desire to interact with it as well. Praying in the spirit for extended periods will break you into new realms of ideas, new realms of breakthroughs, and new realms of deeper understanding and deeper experiences with God. This book is to nudge you to spend protracted times in prayer so that you will make a difference and you will fulfill your destiny. A big thank you to all our supporters. Thank you so much for your love gifts, and we pray in the name of Jesus that the Lord will bless you, bless the work of your hands, and I decree in the name of Jesus: money will meet money in your pocket, food will meet food on your table, opportunities will meet opportunities in your life. God will multiply your seeds sown and increase the fruit of your righteousness in Jesus' mighty name. If you would like to support this work also, click the link in the show notes.
