You Are The Magic

The Secret to More Energy, Clarity, and Peace? Endings.

Christine DeHerrera Episode 9

Send me a text! I'd love to hear your comments, what you'd like to hear on future episodes and your questions.

In this potent solo episode, Christine explores one of the most overlooked sources of burnout for high achievers: a lack of endings. Drawing from her personal experience and working with a nervous system expert plus her decades of experience inside hundreds of businesses, she unpacks how “open loops”—unfinished tasks, outdated offers, and unmade decisions—quietly drain your power and overwhelm your system. If you’ve ever felt tired but couldn’t pinpoint why, this episode offers the insight you’ve been missing.

You’ll discover why your brain and body crave the resolution of a true ending, how our culture avoids closure at all costs, and what it really takes to reclaim clarity and energy in your business and life. Christine also shares powerful real-life examples, plus a list of reflection questions to help you identify and gently close your own open loops—without guilt or drama. It’s time to reclaim your energy, complete what’s lingering, and make space for what’s next.

You are the magic. And your energy is sacred.

Reflection Questions from the Episode

Feel free to journal on these or take them with you on your next walk:

  • What offers are you still hosting or referencing that no longer reflect your best work?
  • Are there client relationships or packages that should have ended—or evolved—a long time ago?
  • Are you still trying to grow accounts or platforms just because you started them?
  • Are you in memberships, masterminds, or subscriptions you never engage with?
  • Are you paying for tools or tech you don’t even use anymore?
  • Do you have team roles or contractors you need to shift—or thank and release?
  • What habits, systems, or goals are still running simply because they’ve always been there?
  • Are there collaborations or side projects you’ve quietly ghosted—without giving yourself or the other person closure?
  • How many things are you still trying to do that you don’t even want to do anymore?

Christine DeHerrera: 0:05

Welcome to You Are the Magic. I'm so happy you're here. We have a very juicy topic today and it's my intention that this episode is potent and that this episode might be the permission slip your body has been waiting for.

Christine DeHerrera: 0:18

About five years ago, I became aware of the importance of befriending your nervous system. I listened to podcasts and read a few books about the subject, but it took me years to find a teacher to work with directly. My interest in the nervous system started because I used to have terrible migraines that eventually included terrible neck pain and systemic symptoms that made me chronically ill. Maybe I will share more about that on a future episode, but my everyday experience back then is what piqued my interest in learning about my nervous system. When I finally found the nervous system genius who I'm still working with today, in one of the very first classes she asked us how do you end things? How do you end things? My initial thought was end things? Why would I want to do that? Quitting is not something I do ever, which is a wonderful quality in some respects, but it definitely means I stay at the proverbial party way too long and tolerate all sorts of stuff that I should not.

Christine DeHerrera: 1:24

Other manifestation of not ending things? I'm the type who keeps everything because what if I need it? I'm still on email lists that I haven't read in years. I have a basement full of press clippings collected from more than two decades of publicity work. I have every hard drive since the beginning of my business and I've carried relationships, subscriptions and systems long past their expiration dates. In short, I rarely give myself the gift of a beautiful ending, and that has been a colossal mistake, because the reality is, our bodies and brains love completion. Our bodies need endings. They're wired for it.

Christine DeHerrera: 2:09

In natural cycles there's a beginning, a middle and an ending. When something starts but never finishes, it becomes an open tab in your mind. And too many open tabs? That's a recipe for stress, confusion, irritability and exhaustion. Your body never gets to rest because it's using energy to stay on top of all the open loops that haven't been closed. It's important to remember that everything in nature cycles. Think about the seasons, think about the creation of a new life, think about eating, digesting and excreting. Essentially, there's a beginning and middle and an end to everything. Unfortunately, modern humans, we're not so great about cycles.

Christine DeHerrera: 2:53

Unless you start to consciously think about beginnings, middles and ends, you likely are in a chronic state of middling. This is why you have trouble sleeping, concentrating or envisioning what comes next in your business and life. If you are frequently, dare I say, chronically, depleted, burnt out, unclear and irritable, it may be that you are due a few endings. And don't feel too bad, we're in a culture that despises endings, especially death, which, of course, is part of the life cycle. And don't forget the profiteering that is currently happening to your brain by companies like Meta and the so-called news agencies, to name just two, who, if you let them, will open thousands of loops in your brain every day. Now compound that with everything else that is going on in the government and the world and there are no endings in sight. But the thing is, endings are loving, they're nourishing and they're how you take your power back. Endings are not failures, which is definitely an entire future episode. All of the awareness about endings was a huge wow moment for me. So I started paying attention to all of my open loops. Where had I deprived myself of endings? I didn't have to look far, both in my own life and in my business and with clients.

Christine DeHerrera: 4:14

So a few examples. There's those Facebook friends who you haven't seen in years and whose posts annoy the living crap out of you, but you let them stay in your feed anyway. There's the gym membership you hate but haven't gotten rid of. There's the mechanic who always overcharges, but he's in your phone so you keep going back. There's all the voicemails you haven't checked, because who even calls anyone? There's the broke systems, or no systems at all, that we just keep tolerating. Outdated offers still sitting on your website that you can't seem to remove. Unpaid invoices that you just can't seem to collect, mostly because you stopped sending invoices to these people. There's old freebies, funnels or lead magnets that don't reflect who you are anymore. Then there's the legacy email accounts you don't use but literally keep paying for. Hello Earthlink. Courses and classes you signed up for but haven't touched yet.

Christine DeHerrera: 5:10

You keep thinking you will eventually, so you don't delete them. There's the books you've outgrown, the collaborations you've ghosted, ideas that never really sparked, and the list goes on and on. Every one of these little annoyances is an energy leak, a silent place where your energy drips out. So if you want to feel clear, grounded and ready to hold more power, you have to close what's no longer aligned. The good news is you can start closing the loops right now, not in a dramatic way, not in a guilt-filled way, just with intention, with love, with presence and a little wave. Think of Marie Kondo-ing all the open loops in your brain, your computer, on your desk, on your calendar, on your bank statements. Does it spark joy? No? Thank you and farewell. Because I like to make these episodes practical, here are some reflection questions I'd love for you to journal on or just feel into your next walk, and yes, of course, I will put them in the show notes.

Christine DeHerrera: 6:13

Ask yourself what offers are you still hosting or referencing that no longer reflect your best work? Are there client relationships or packages that should have ended or evolved a long time ago? Are you still trying to grow accounts or platforms just because you started them? I had to wait until Clubhouse went away before the app was deleted off my phone, so don't feel bad. Are you in memberships, masterminds or subscriptions you never engage with? Are you paying for tools or tech you don't even use anymore? Do you have team roles or contractors you need to shift, or thank and release? What habits, systems or goals are still running, simply because they've always been there? That goal setting one is really important to look at. How many things are you still trying to do that you don't even want to do anymore? Are there collaborations or side projects you've quietly ghosted without giving yourself or the other person closure? There's no judgment here, just awareness, because awareness is what opens the door to choice, or, in this case, closes the door, and goodbye open loops.

Christine DeHerrera: 7:27

This week, I want to gently challenge you to end one thing, just one Unsubscribe from a list, archive a digital folder, retire an offer, send that final invoice, close the loop, because endings aren't failures, they're portals, they free up power, they give your body rest and they create space for what's next to arrive, which is so important right now, because we're in the middle of a massive change and everything that we've been doing is likely going to shift in some way to flow with what's coming in.

Christine DeHerrera: 8:00
