Christine DeHerrera:

Welcome to you Are the Magic. You know those weeks where it feels like every single conversation is trying to tell you something. This was one of those weeks for me, and I just love it. It's how I know I'm on the right track. In my life and work, I kept hearing the same themes showing up in different ways through my clients, my colleagues and even friends. Underneath each story, each struggle, each breakthrough, there was a pattern, a pattern about change and clarity and power. So in today's episode, I want to take you inside three of these conversations, each one revealing something I think we all need to hear right now. We'll talk about why a seasoned consultant working with household names found herself avoiding invoicing and what that really means. We'll talk about why a wildly successful entrepreneur realized she'd been outsourcing her power to the experts and how she took it back. And we'll talk about what it means to double down on your values and choose the frequency you want to hold. These aren't just random stories. They're clues, invitations, a mirror for your own business, your own decisions, your own power, Because maybe what's feeling hard isn't really the problem. Maybe what's draining you isn't what you think it is, and maybe this was a big, important maybe, Maybe, the answers aren't outside you. They're already here waiting for you to see them. Let's dive in.

Christine DeHerrera:

One of the most interesting conversations I had this week came from someone using my new business detox playbook, which was really cool. In step one of the playbook, you're asked to identify a task or commitment you dread but that you keep doing anyway. I mean, who hasn't done that? So this incredible high level consultant who's making really cool changes inside her clients' businesses and who has worked with household names and big tech firms so someone that really knows what she's doing she named invoicing as the task she dreaded most in the playbook. Now here's what's fascinating to me. The question in the playbook is designed to unearth the tasks that are draining your energy but that aren't actually moving the needle in your business. In this case, though, invoicing absolutely moves the needle. In fact, it's oxygen for your business. The resulting revenue is what keeps the doors open. So for her to name invoicing as the task she dreaded, it just showed how powerful this tool could be, which was really exciting to me.

Christine DeHerrera:

The playbook didn't just identify a busy work task she could let go of. It surfaced a critical area of resistance, something that was asking for attention on a deeper level. She wondered if she had a money mindset issue, a scarcity issue, and wondered if she had a money mindset issue, a scarcity issue, and I totally get that. It's so common for high achievers, for over functioners, for those of us trying to do everything right, to immediately wonder what's wrong with me that's making all of this feel so hard. Fortunately, we were able to talk about it and I quickly discovered it wasn't that she lacked a system to automate the invoicing or that she didn't have somebody she could delegate that task to. The real issue wasn't logistical, it was a clarity issue.

Christine DeHerrera:

Because here's the thing when invoicing feels heavy or like it can't be automated, it's not usually about the task itself. It's a sign that the transformation that you're selling hasn't been fully articulated to yourself. And that's not a personal failing at all. That's a messaging issue, and messaging can be fixed. So let me give you an example.

Christine DeHerrera:

If you're billing for consulting or coaching, you need to be crystal clear on the transformation. Your client is paying for the result. For example, in my one-on-one program the subtraction strategy my clients don't just get a list of things to stop doing. They get a prioritized, personalized action plan designed to deliver the specific result they're looking for, whether that's more revenue or more hours back in their day or up leveling their ideal client. So when the transformation is clear, the invoice feels clear too. The exchange of money makes sense. It's like buying a Pepsi three bucks or a branded sweatshirt 200 bucks. The transformation or the result is already baked into the price.

Christine DeHerrera:

But when you haven't fully named the transformation to yourself, even if your client is thrilled, the invoicing process can feel personal, emotional wobbly. And that's a clue, not a character flaw. Here's why this happens. For those of us who are over-functioners good girls, perfectionists we've made over-delivering a way of life. We always see where we could have done more, where we could have been even better, and because we can always imagine that extra thing we could have given, we can feel weird charging for what we already have delivered.

Christine DeHerrera:

It's not that you don't believe you're good at what you do. It's not that you doubt your product or your service. It's that your brain hasn't paused long enough to name the incredible transformation you're already providing. Once you name it, that energetic wobble disappears Sometimes. It's not that we're making things harder than they need to be. It's that we're misdiagnosing the real problem. We tell ourselves. I have a money mindset issue, I must have some scarcity blocks around invoicing, but really the issue might be something much more practical and solvable. I haven't fully articulated the transformation my client receives, and that's true whether you're selling a service or a product. So once you name the transformation, clearly the exchange of money feels clear too. So I'll ask you this is there something in your business you're avoiding? Not because it's truly hard, but because maybe you've misunderstood what's actually going on.

Christine DeHerrera:

If you want to explore this for yourself, the Business Detox Playbook is a great place to start. It's designed to meet you where you are, whether you need to clear out busy work and shoulds or you're ready to go deep, like this woman did. It will help you uncover exactly what's draining your energy and keeping you stuck. I've linked it for you in the show notes and, speaking of clarity, this brings me to another powerful conversation I had this week.

Christine DeHerrera:

I was talking with a brilliant, accomplished entrepreneur. She's built multiple businesses, all successful, and now she's stepping into something new, launching a business in the online space. And, like so many of us do when we're in unfamiliar territory, she started listening to all the experts. She bought the courses, followed the online gurus tried to learn all the things and I can totally relate to that and in the process, she started outsourcing her own wisdom to these online professionals. Now, don't get me wrong. She learned a lot. She picked up strategies about business models, messaging, using social media to generate leads, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. No doubt really, really good, but she spent way more time on it than she really needed to. One day it hit her and she finally got clear. She knew exactly what her new product was going to be. She knew who the ideal client was, she knew the problem she was solving and the transformation she was giving them, and in that moment, she made a very bold decision she decided to build the product.

Christine DeHerrera:

Now, if you've been in the online space for a while or the tech space, you've probably heard plenty of experts say don't build the product, validate it, sell it before you make it. But this time she didn't listen to the experts, she listened to herself. She started building the product, she iterated, she made sure it worked properly, she really put the time and effort in and she started a wait list. So when she finally dropped the link to the product, believe it or not, every single person on that wait list, bought it. Later she told me I couldn't have sold it if it didn't exist, and for her that was true.

Christine DeHerrera:

But here's what I've learned we already know so much more than we give ourselves credit for. Yes, expert guidance can absolutely shorten the path if you're learning from someone who's a great fit for you. But even then, their wisdom needs to filter through you, your values, your vision, your way of doing things, your intuition, Because nobody knows what's right for you better than you. So if you've been waiting for somebody else to tell you you're ready, let this be it. You're ready. Stop outsourcing that power and instead double down on your values.

Christine DeHerrera:

Which brings me to another incredible conversation I had this week. Really, truly, this was quite a week. So I was talking to yet another amazing woman, an incredible businesswoman, a coach, an author, a speaker, a general baddie. But lately she told me she'd been feeling a little bit off, a little bit stuck. She told me she was struggling to complete business tasks that are normally some of her favorite parts of the week, and she wasn't sure why. Well, of course, I had a few ideas, because I'm the outside observer.

Christine DeHerrera:

We are in an incredible time in flux in history. There's truly not an area of our lives that isn't being changed, whether that's pricing humanity or lack thereof, corporations, government, how we do day-to-day tasks Everything feels like it's getting turned upside down. So it should be no surprise that she, or any of us, was feeling this way, feeling duck, for lack of a better term. So we started digging into this how, in times like this, doing things the way we've always done them just doesn't feel right anymore, and it's not just okay but actually necessary to stop and ask should I still be doing this, how should I be doing this? And, most important of all, do I want to be doing this Right now? In my opinion, everything is up for reassessment from your business model to your lead generation, to how many hours you work, who you work with, how you work in every sense of the word, all of it. And while this, of course, feels scary, there's a gentle process that can make all of this questioning and assessment not only more effective, but actually fun and reassuring and giving you a sense of safety. I think this process is so important that it's one of the first things I do with all my clients, and that is really kind of simple, but we identify their values.

Christine DeHerrera:

Some people come to me with their values clearly identified. Some don't. Some come to me with values that completely change, Because values aren't just words on a wall. Values are the fundamental beliefs that guide every decision and action in your life and business. So if you're not running the activities that you're doing through your values, then likely there are many little ways that you're out of alignment with yourself, even if you are reaching all of your goals. And if you're not hitting the mark. Being at cross purposes with your values is often the culprit, and what's great about that is you can change it. And let me give you one more little surprise about values. They change over time. They evolve as you evolve and with everything that's happening right now, of course, your values are changing. So in my conversation with this baddie who was feeling off, she realized she wasn't quite taking action from her values. And this is when things got spicy, Because it's not just the value itself, it's the frequency of the value, the energy behind the words.

Christine DeHerrera:

Take joy or happiness or delight. They all mean similar things, but they don't carry the same energy. They're different frequencies. See what I mean. So once you choose a value, you are choosing the frequency you want to hold as you go through your day. So let's take joy as one of your core values. You filter everything, and I mean everything your offers, your marketing, your schedule, your collaborations, your social media everything gets filtered through the frequency of joy.

Christine DeHerrera:

Or let's say, hustle is one of your values. Then you filter everything through the lens of hustle. Although, spoiler, I feel like hustle is going to be getting a facelift for people. Now you might be thinking okay, come on, nobody can be in joy all the time. Or hustle all the time. Maybe, maybe not. But when you know that sending an email to your list three times a week feels like the opposite of joy, that's a clue, that's the signal it's time to adjust. And that's what I want you to take away from this conversation.

Christine DeHerrera:

Your values. They're not just concepts, they're a frequency, a guide, a filter, a compass. When you double down on them, everything starts to evolve to where you are right now no more feeling stuck. So those were just three of the conversations I had this week. When I first put this episode together, I naively thought I was going to give you six conversations and that would have been way too much. So I'll save those for another episode, but what a powerful week.

Christine DeHerrera:

Here's what I want you to remember You're not stuck, You're not behind, You're not missing some secret key, You're not wrong.

Christine DeHerrera:

You know so much more than you give yourself credit for. And when you double down on your values, when you filter your decisions, your offers, your schedule, your marketing through the frequency you actually down on your values. When you filter your decisions, your offers, your schedule, your marketing, through the frequency you actually want to live in, you can't help but build something true, something lasting, something fully aligned. That's the work, that's the magic and that's the invitation. So if you want to start uncovering what's draining your energy or what's been keeping you stuck, my Business Detox Playbook is a really beautiful place to begin. It's free, it's powerful and it's linked for you right in the show notes. And if you love this episode, it would mean the world to me if you'd leave a five-star review wherever you're listening.
