Good morning! We're at Pepper Place Market and we're about to ask people on the street what they know about cultures languages and even Québec Come with me! I'm from Oxford Alabama and I'm from Leeds Alabama I'm from Birmingham Alabama we're from Louisville Kentucky from Peru I grew up outside Chicago and I'm from here Alabaster Alabama I'm from Birmingham I am from Birmingham Alabama Charles Barkley the basketball player is originally from Leeds Alabama kind of like the main celebrity from our small town Midwesterners do take ranch very seriously I think that's an important thing at the farmers market I was just thinking about it that we do put ranch on everything I've been told that you should always eat black eyed peas and hog jaw for good luck in the New Year first of all the food is excellent it's actually a huge foodie city we have a lot of different culture mixes there especially a big Cuban population so we have excellent Cuban food I think one of the most amazing parts about Birmingham is the hidden history and some of the hidden gems just as this smaller corridor that we're in right here most people don't know about it but it's one of the things that I love the most about Birmingham how to say we have everything all the climates from all over the world we have it in that country The camaraderie of the University of Alabama football team everywhere you go everyone thinks they're part of the team we won we won my favorite thing to do here is come to the farmers market heyyyyyyy! like no stone is unturned if you choose to not unturn it I think one of the beautiful things about Birmingham is just a land of mystery and if you take the time to find out there are some magical things here hence the Magic City French! French I really would like to speak French or Spanish if I could be fluent in any language it's Spanish probably say Spanish too oh my answer might change daily but right now Russian and French I wish I knew how to speak Spanish we both work in healthcare so probably Spanish I think I'd also pick Spanish my top 3... American Sign Language Japanese the language of love automatic automatic if I could learn French today I would definitely do so I love the Creole influence in New Orleans or Louisiana as well I like the expression when they said ooh LA LA it sounds romantic to me just for fun I really want to travel to Paris sometime cause being in the US there's a lot of Spanish speakers and I work with a lot of people whose first language is Spanish just because I think where we live Spanish is so prominent and it's something that would be really useful to know so it would jst be nice to chat with them in their first language instead of them always having to talk with me in English I work in manufacturing so it's just all types of people even in like engineering and stuff we have a lot of people and that would decrease a lot of barriers for me just because it'd be super useful for work cause I work in nuclear because I took 4 years of Spanish right now I've lost some knowledge in it but I'm currently doing Duolingo and I'm on day 302 because I think it's probably the most relevant here because I think that often gets looked over or because I just like that culture a lot what do you like about it the food art and just a lot of the music too I think there's more music to be explored than what people originally like give it credit for now the question is I haven't I don't know much just that I have heard of it I don't really know anything about it but I have heard of it I don't know where it is Wait, Québec in Canada I heard of it but no I don't really know anything about it though they speak French Canadian they speak French? Canadian bacon I'm saying that I don't like it Do they not speak French there? They do! Ha! Ha! Ha! You guys talk like us, just a little bit different it's just a little like I think it's like the tone or maybe the tongue our tongues down here are very lazy so we kind of drag out our words there are tunnels underground because it gets very cold in the winter there are tunnels underground It's spelled with a "Q" first I just couldn't see the spelling in my head Familiarize me you just heard about it... I have, I have heard of it French is one of the official languages okay in Québec okay which is part of North America It is! Not too far. it's a place that I always wanted to go I've been in Canada twice but I never been in Québec, but I would love to go Oui! Bonjour?! Je m'appelle [...] Nick none that I'm fluent in and that is my name is Nick and I'm 16 so that was when I was in high school and I was saying that I'm 26 now so like I said it was 10 years ago Je voudrais un......vin......rouge Comment ça va? D'accord. Okay. D'accord. that's it a French is this is something I definitely want to aspire to learn when I have the time you know any other French words? no Say what? uh uh No Putin? like the Russian? like him but not like him I just watched someone make poutine on YouTube a few weeks ago I cannot remember the ingredients though

but I know what it looks like :

) it's a dish like the food? yes yes the food? yes, yes yes yes yes what are the 3 ingredients that make up a poutine? I know what poutine is beans fries with gravy? potatoes? that's the only one I got on that one French fries and gravy and cheese yes yes okay I've also I just the pronunciation yeah you said it the French way you say poutine! Yeah Do you know the capital of Canada? Toronto? oh oh oh Montreal? Quebec? does it start with an "o"? Ontario?"Otto"... I can't think of the name... Ottawa? there we go yeah that's what I yes thanks so much for tagging along Merci beaucoup d'être venu avec nous! Abonnez-vous! Ha! Ha! What is it? Subscribe! ;) Spanish
