Aged to Perfection
Hello, this is John. I'm Joe. And this is our first Episode of our podcast that we've been talking about doing since last Christmas. So here we are, we got all of our equipment. We're not sure we know how to use it. We've done a lot of YouTubes and a lot of searching for the right digital equipment to use and download it so we can get it to things like Spotify and Apple. So we'll see if this works. So Joe, tell us about ourselves. You can be first. Well, I was born in Pennsylvania born and raised in Pennsylvania. Then I moved to Florida, lost my husband in Florida. And worked for a company named Siemens and through a sympathy card from John I, we became pen pals and that led to phone calls and then, mysteriously, he came to classes at or new, new products that we were financing and he took me out for dinner and. Then the rest of history. He was a good dinner. We then I married him, went to live in Chicago. Can you imagine moving from Boca Raton, Florida to Chicago? we lived there for ten years and I said take me south. And we moved from Hilton, Bluffton, South Carolina, which is part of Hilton Head. John being retired was constantly following me. I said, you need to get a life. So he went to work for Enterprise, rent a car. One of the assignments he had was to go to Augusta, Georgia, where the Augusta National Golf Tournament was, to pick up players. when he did that, he went through Aiken, South Carolina, and kind of fell in love with it. So, we visited there. I too fell in love with it. we decided to sell our house in Bluffton, moved to Aiken, South Carolina, we lived in a golf club community, and while we were there relatives from Pendergrass, Georgia, John's sister and her children, came to visit us John's sister was sick and they said, we need your help. So we decided that we would come over to Pendergrass, Georgia, build a house and move closer to family. And spent 12 years in that house. then I got sick and John said, this house is too big for me. So we now live in a 55 and over gated community. I think I'm the oldest girl in the community. I was born in Springfield, Illinois, but raised in Birmingham, Alabama. I was in the Air Force, lived quite a few places, St. Louis, Denver, Los Angeles and, Chicago for 10 years. Taught Joe how to shovel snow which she knew how, but she claimed she'd forgotten now we are in Beaufort Georgia where we have a nice condo, a lot of nice neighbors and we have a lot of activities. Part of what we want to do with this podcast is let you know what we're doing. maybe you can get some ideas. Maybe you want to do some of the same things. Maybe you want to ask us how we got these ideas. we both have a lot of activities. We belong to a life group at church, and we have many things we do with that life group. Communities, it's primarily community service. And then we play, I play Bunko with the girls. We play cards on Tuesday night up at the clubhouse. Then we have another group that we play cards with and we alternate between houses. That's once a month. And we have a men's breakfast group once a month. And we have Family breakfast once a month. It sounds like we do a lot once a month. And I'm on the architecture review committee and that meets guess what? Once a month. So here we are. This is Super Bowl Sunday, by the way, and we're just kind of killing time waiting for the game to start. I probably don't know who you're for and I'm not going to tell you who we're for because we don't want to get any, any bricks thrown at us. Joe, continue. We both like football. I played touch football when I was a kid. So I've been very fond of football all my life. How about you, John? Well, I never played football, but I did umpire softball one time for one game. I was ejected because they didn't like the way I made the calls. I made 50 cents an hour and I think I made a dollar that day. I have had a lot of odd jobs. As Joe mentioned, I worked for enterprise rental car. We did some things for walmart. I got paid for it, but Joe did the work. we did some technical Equipment on the shelf and cleaning and making sure it was all in good order. I've sold golf carts Floating airplane one time Joe gave me a lesson but she was afraid to come to the airport because she was afraid I might leave town and not Come back, but I did come back what was your career John? What was my career? I worked for RCA service company In what was then a beginning field of data communications back in the late fifties and worked in California. Traveled eight states out there, transferred to Chicago, did all the Midwest and Left from there and went to work for Siemens which is kind of a competitor. Siemens closed that department I was in and I ended up being transferred to the Credit Corporation, which I knew nothing about, but I learned, and thankfully that's how Joe and I met, I worked in the accounting part of Siemens Credit. She used to look at my expense reports and wonder why I got to car wars so many times in Chicago. I rejected a lot of his reports. When we moved there, we found out that indeed, with all the salt and messy snow, you did have to get your car wars. So approved expenses. Well, what else are we going to talk about? Well, I thought we would talk about some of the things we've got in future episodes to talk about growing older. We want to dispel some of the facts about senior citizens not being able to do stuff. We're both pretty technical qualified. We have a lot of techie stuff in the house. We want to talk about. Being healthy and happy and ailments and going to the doctor. We want to talk about stories that shaped our lives. And how about Hobbies. We can talk about hobbies and even thought one of these episodes, we'd have you, me email us and we'll give you our email in another episode, some of the things that you've done and we can read'em. We won't necessarily give your name if you don't want, but might be interesting for people to read them. or if you'd like to come and sit with us, you can be a part of it, right? We'll interview you and you can be you. On a podcast. well, I think we've about run out of stuff to talk about for the first time since we're waiting for the Super Bowl Remember keep watching for our new post and hope you subscribe to them Unfortunately since this is our first episode we've got to get our name Registered. we'll be doing that next. We had a few names that we had thought about, but they've Already been taken, so we've got to use a new name, Primarily, I think the first name we're going to go for Is, Aged to Perfection. Does that sound pretty good? I like it. Aged to Perfection. Pouring vintage tales with fresh perspectives for enriched golden days. I like it. Joe, how do you like it? So so. All right, we're done. Talk to you later. Thanks for listening to us.
