John and Jo #2
Hello, this is, John and Jo again. This is Jo. Welcoming to our podcast. This is our second podcast, and after reviewing our first podcast, we think we need to explain a few things. Or clarify. Clarify, that's the word we want to use about our first podcast. For one thing, we want to tell you about our children. Jo, you can start. I have, two children. between the two of us, we have, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. I have two children. One son lives in, Palatine, Illinois, with his wife and daughter and daughter in Euphrata, Washington. And, she has three children, which makes me have how many grandchildren? we have eight together. Eight, that's a lot of grandkids. That's four and four. And how about great grandchildren? For Gregor Grange. Goodness, where'd they all come from? Anyway, that's one clarification. And I have a daughter in Pennsylvania, a daughter, a husband, and a granddaughter there, who is married, and unfortunately her husband has brain cancer, it's not too good right now. I have a daughter in Florida, she's currently involved with a man, She was single and ready to mingle, but now she's, mingled. as far as moving, last time we said something about us living in Chicago for 10 years, and I think we need to clarify that, I lived in Chicago for 15 years before Joe and I got married, and Joe lived with me 10 years in Chicago. I mentioned about being in the Air Force and moving. Air Force didn't move me too much. I was in Strategic Air Command, Forbes Air Force Base, Topeka, Kansas, House and Air Force Base. Fairbanks, Alaska, Little Rock Air Force Base, North Little Rock. So that was the extent of my moving. Otherwise my jobs, took me from Denver to Los Angeles to Chicago. And, that's where I retired from Chicago. he worked for Siemens, and that's how we got together because I worked for Siemens. Siemens was our, get together company. So we thought maybe we would talk a little about moving this episode, because we've moved a lot. Maybe some of you are thinking about moving. Maybe some of you have moved and think there's no way I'm going to move again. It's A lot of work. A lot of planning. Luckily for me, my first jobs, were company paid moves. Last move, Joe did the work. We lived in a place called Palatine, Illinois, and we moved to Lake in the Hills. And every day I packed up four boxes from one location to the other, unpacked at the other location, went back to Palatine the next day, loaded up again, and five boxes were packed and unpacked in our new location. And you didn't say you used the Sunday Chicago Tribune newspaper over and over each time to pack the dishes. It's hard to find a newspaper to pack your stuff in. Then, after we left, Palatine and moved to Lake in the Hills, Jo made her declaration of, warm weather that she wanted to move when we retired, we decided we would move to Sun City Hilton Head. That was a big move for us because it was away from what I was familiar with to someplace unfamiliar. However, we made many friends there. one of the friends we made is now, undergoing a moving, moving, she is in Florida and she has decided to. Moved to a 55 and older community and she is minimalizing. if you use the Maria Kondo method, you have a pile of things that you love, a pile of things that you might like, and a pile that you can get rid of. You start out doing that and you eventually get down to just the things that you love And most of my stuff was in the discard pile so that we could bring Joe's I like pile, when we moved here. And by the way, when we moved here, that wasn't easy either because We sold our house pretty quickly and had no place to go because this place wasn't ready yet. However, we had planned to come here six months before our house was built. every day we took pictures down and I wrapped every picture in the house. it took us six months to Stack everything up that we wanted and pack it away in storage units. We started with one Ended up with three the third one Was mostly stuff we bought for this house like porch furniture chandeliers pictures TV sets Mops, buckets, brooms, even and a toilet paper holder. We were ready. And our dog, Osie, used to love to go to the storage unit because she would ride on the cart, and we would push her on the cart to One of our three units she knew where they were and would sit and wait for us to load and unload Luckily when we moved to this house our family and Pendergrass Said oh, we'll help you move they ended up bringing a box truck that box truck was filled with items from our Storage units They didn't actually move their furniture We had a moving company from Winder do that. They parked the truck in a cul de sac close to our home and had a forklift truck. They took all the furniture off, put it on this forklift truck, and then brought it into our house, and unloaded it into whatever room it needed to go into. And then we bought No, we bought, washing machine and refrigerator and dryer. And when they were delivered, the refrigerator was put in place, hooked up to the water, and the guy was going to show us how to use it. we said, that's not the refrigerator that we bought. So he looked at it and we looked at it and he said, I guess it's not. So the driver blamed the helper, and the helper blamed the driver for bringing the wrong refrigerator in, but that refrigerator went out, and, the new refrigerator came in. we closed on a Friday, that was on a Saturday, Monday, the moving truck came, and, it's been home ever since. Five years. Five years now. If you're thinking about moving, our advice is if you're thinking about moving, don't wait too long. We were in our seventies when we moved to Hilton Head and we said, gee, we should have been here five years sooner. even in this place. Jo is the queen of the elderly here. I am the we waited too long, because you can move in here at 55, so we're, 40 years past that. However, this is such a great community. We care for each other, take care of each other, and, the girls, very good to me. They pick me up, take me to whatever activity I'm involved in and bring me home. I tell them they're the only ones I trust other than me to take care of her because they do take good care of her, making sure she gets in and out. and gets back home and most of the time she doesn't win anything when she comes home, but it's just good to have her come home again. Downsizing is very difficult. We had a lot of glasses when we were in Pendergrass, and it seems that, we've accumulated a lot of glasses. We had 157 glassware objects. This is things you can drink out of. We now have 175, because we've added to our collection, because you have to have certain glasses for certain drinks. And Joe makes sure that we meet the code. Keep your good china. One thing, I'm sorry that we got rid of, we had an estate sale. I have to tell you, that was very easy. These people came in, marked everything, told us to go away for the weekend, and when we went back home, the house was cleared of everything, except one more unit, TV unit was, not popular anymore to have. so we called Habitat for Humanity. They came, picked it up. And took it away. the house was cleared. They even sold, half a can of oil or bug spray because buyers maybe want to, try one before they go out and buy one. I suggest that other than having a garage sale. You do all the work with a garage sale. With an estate sale, they do the work. And if you get a good one, like we had, they inventoried it, Item by item. And a check. With their, fee taking out of it, and it was well worth it. Very well worth it. Next time I think we're going to talk about hobbies. mostly John has a lot of hobbies. And I crease my hobbies on a daily basis based on the mood I'm in and what I'm reading on the internet. So with that said, look out and we'll say goodbye until the next time. It's Johnny Joe. Adios.
