Well, it's John and Joe Time again. We've been absent for several months because, uh, because of me, because of Joe. Joe, you wanna tell'em what's happening in the last three or four months? Well, I had pneumonia twice. Mm-hmm. And then, uh, they decided that they would've do some testing. So I had a, uh, what was I called it John. You had an x-ray? Uh, first I had an x-ray. First I, John insisted that I go to urgent care. They took an x-ray there, found that I had pneumonia, sent me to the hospital, put me on an antibiotic, and told me that I didn't look sick. Go home, go home. So I went home and still didn't get well. And so, uh, went back to my family doctor. He took an x-ray and said, you've got it back again. So started some with more antibiotics. So did you get, and you get a CT scan? Yes. So I got that and then, uh, they decided that I needed to go see a gastro guy, gastro, right. Add that to our list of, uh, doctors. And, uh, from there I went to the hospital and had a, uh. Upper, upper, upper gi, no, no upper endoscopy, right? We're not medical people as you can see, but upper endoscopy. And then, uh, my doctor there said, you need to see a surgeon. Mm-hmm. So now I have seen a surgeon told him I did not wanna be operated. And now he wants to me to drink some barium and be tested again. Swallow test, barium swallow test, which was originally scheduled for the 22nd of January. Then we got a rescheduled to the 7th of January and then we got a call that said, uh, it's gonna be January 14th before we can do this. So that's where we are. So that's my story. That's her story, and she's not the only one. I had a nose, uh, skin cancer, uh, in June, July, and I had to get a mos, MOHS surgery where they peel off layers of skin. I got two layers peeled off and, uh, before I got the okay, of course, that was followed by, uh. Healing and, uh, sav and cream and, uh, everything that went with it. Now he looks like Brad Pitt now. Yeah. I look a lot younger. Look a lot better with that new nose job I got from the doctor. Right. And Medicare paid for it. So there you go. So some of our friends have talked about, Hey, John and Joe, you're not on the air. We don't miss you, what you're gonna talk about. And, uh, some of'em said, why don't you talk about. Technical stuff, you know, like radio and TV and stuff when you were growing up. So, Joe, I'll let you take the floor and talk about when you, we know Joe was born in an attic on Tennis Avenue in Ambler, Pennsylvania. And, uh, she lived there for some time. So, uh, let's hear your, your story. Well, um, we, what we had was a, a radio. And, uh, my mother would prepare the meals, but it was up to the, I I have two other sisters who have sis SIDS passed. I'm the only one left, but at any rate, we used to dance around the table to the radio while we were doing the dishes. And uh, then my uncle had a seven inch tv, black and white. Every Friday night we went to his house, sat in the dark and watched the wrestling. That was exciting. I'm sure. And I wonder back then, was it all an act, you know, the way they, uh, staged these wrestling matches today? Not sure. I saw some blood. Uh oh. Uh oh. So then what happened to you? When did you get, uh, your records and stereo and Hi-Fi and I never had records. Mm-hmm. Did you? Oh, yes, I had records. But we're talking about you now and, and you had no, why didn't you have any records? Well, we couldn't afford them. Oh, okay. Well, you know, you could have got a job. I, I, I guess you're gonna tell me you had a job. Oh, yes. I, I had a job at Mrs. Heights, uh, department store and I couldn't afford to buy the clothing there, but I could buy fabric and make my own clothes. Make your own, okay. And, uh, well, it saved your family lots of money, didn't you? Yeah, really. So lemme tell you about my, uh, young radio experience. I started out with a crystal set. Some of you may know what those are, and hung it out the window and tuned to a radio station. And my parents had a, uh, KO upright piece of furniture that had tubes in it. It was a radio and, uh, I used to like to listen to. Stations identify themselves, you know, and they only did that every hour and a half hour. So every hour and a half hour I would tune in different frequencies and try to write down stations that were far away that when I lived in Birmingham and we used to hear Atlanta, sometime Nashville, sometime New Orleans a lot, and uh, from New Orleans. But then, you know, most of the radios signed off at, uh, midnight. And they played the, uh, Star-Spangled Banner, and then he went outta business until the next morning When, unlike today, were you awake until midnight? Yes, I was awake. I I, I've always been awake. My parents didn't know I was awake, but they were sleeping. Oh. But they didn't, I was, uh, I was next to the radio, which way? My brother, one time to tell you how big this radio was, my brother was missing. And as far as I was concerned, that was okay. But my parents said, where's your brother? And I said, I don't know. Finally he came out, he was inside the radio, hiding in there. Luckily it wasn't turned on because you know, those days they had these big tubes and those tubes got hot. I can tell you a funny story about a cat. Alright, let's hear it. We bought, uh, when my first husband and I moved into our shelf hunt house in Pennsylvania. We had one TV and, uh, we got a cat because we had some mice. We lived in a, uh, uh, three level house. Tri level, tri level, and uh, we had mice in the bottom that would come in through the garage. So we went and got a cat. Well brought this cat home and we were sitting in the, in our downstairs get, uh, it was a, a fireplace sitting in it, it was an all purpose room. Today we'd probably call that a family room. Yes. And, uh, suddenly the, the cat, we, we watched this TV jump around. And the cat was inside where those catho ray tubes were, and it got hot and he, he was getting hot in there and he was jumping around and she had a hot cat. We did, we, we came out, he hid every wall in the, in the, in the, uh, room. Did, did this cat ever have, uh, get a mouse? I don't know because it didn't bring it in. Didn't bring any in. Did you have mice after you got the cat? No, we did not. Alright. It worked out. Solved a purpose then, didn't it? Well, we almost scolded the cat. You would've been reported to the Humane Society. Im sure we would've been, been, took a cat in, in the radio. Uh, one of the other things we talked about having was the cell phones and, you know, uh, we started out with, uh, just. Regular telephones. Now, I lived in, in Birmingham, Alabama when I was little in the city. In the city, we had a telephone that had one number and it rang and you picked it up and said hello, and that was the only person on it. Joe tells me different story, Joe. Well, I lived in the country. Mm-hmm. And we had a party line. Mm-hmm. And there were 14 people on that party line. And if we had an emergency, we would get on the line and say, this is an emergency, please hang up. So we can use the, the line. So could you listen to other people talking? Well, you could, but we didn't do that. Oh, you didn't? I would, I would've listened. Of course. You would've on, and it had a cloth wrapped wire, you know, cord. And you could take that to different parts of the room. And, uh, I would, uh, sneak around and have phone calls with people, uh, that. Probably wasn't supposed to have, you know, we used to call up the, uh, the drugstore and, uh, we would say, do you have Prince Albert in a can? Now some of you know, prince Albert is smoking tobacco. And they would say, yes, we do. And we would say, you better let him out. He is gonna suffocate. So that's, that was our entertainment as a child. We, we had no, uh, games and, you know, none of that stuff to play with. So you didn't play games? Well, we played rocks. Rock school. We used to sit on people's front steps and, uh, ask questions and you move up and down the steps with a rock in your hand. Well, I think we might have thrown that rock at each other, if I'm not mistaken. But, uh, we played rock school and uh, uh, I think I might have mentioned this before, one of the girls in our neighborhood, a couple of us guys were playing Indian and we tied her to a tree and we're gonna set fire to her until her mother came out of the back and rescued. So well the difference between boys and girls, I guess there, I guess we played family games when we got the kitchen all cleaned up. Then out came the, the che. Well, any games we play were destructive games. Like anything you could wreck, that's what you did. The more damage you could do to it, the better. And particularly if it wasn't your property, you know, if you could run fast enough, uh, you were, you were pretty safe. And then. You'd blame it on somebody else. Like I would blame my brother for anything that happened and, uh, that was skate. Uh, skate free. Skate free. Well, unlike me, uh, every, every time my younger sisters did something wrong, I was spanked because I was the oldest that I would, should not have allowed them to do that. And you probably should have, you should have been, been more in charge. Now let's talk about cell phones. You know, we were gonna talk about cell phones. And, uh, you know, Dova, those have heard our podcast know that Joe and I, uh, dated over long distance, uh, phone, uh, 1500 miles away. Quite expensive because we paid. And then of course, after we got married, cell phones came into effect. And, uh, we had to have the latest technology. At least I did. I said, Joe, we gotta have the latest technology. So we both got cell phones and, um, I think Joe, Joe had a problem with hers. Joe, what happened to your cell phone? You were, you were cloned? Yes, I was. Somebody stole Joe's phone number and was making drug buys over in North Carolina and the company said, uh, you've got like 1500 to$2,000 charged, almost charged on your phone. So Joe says, not me. And, uh, and they erased it. And they said, okay. Then they gave me a code. Yep. And I had to a six, six pin, six number code. Yes. I had to put that code in before I could even start my, uh, phone conversa or dialing. Right. You had to dial, put six numbers in. Can you imagine nowadays, uh, with the, uh, the way people use the phone, if they had to put a. Pin code, you know? Now we call it pin numbers, but I called it dialing. But we didn't dial, we just punched numbers Punched. That's right. So then we went through all the cell phone technology. There was to have, every time there was new technology, we would get another phone. Well, now let's say John got a new phone and I would get John's old phone. Well hand me down. Yes. Well that's right and I'm still doing that. You're still doing it, Joe. I had a four Apple, four. And Joe got that. Then I moved to an Apple eight and Joe got the eight. Then I moved to an Apple 12, which I have now, and Joe still has the eight, and I've asked her several occasions, should we go and buy you a used phone? And she's seems very happy with her phone, which is usually in the in her purse all the time. Dead, dead battery. Well, not quite dead. So however, uh, John has it fixed so that if my phone rings, he gets, he gets notification. Right. And so therefore, we always talk on his phone. Mm-hmm. And I get, if Joe gets messages, I get the messages on my phone. So that way we're in conversation, uh, connection with the outside world. We need to be connected all the time. I, I think we should go back and tell them. When we did not have cell phones and we were still relying on, uh, bell South. Well, what did, what was that about? Well, uh, when we, we would talk on the telephone. Oh, you and I, you mean? Yes. We would talk for hours. Mm-hmm. And my phone bill was around$500 a month, and so was John's. And finally John said, we've gotta get married. We can't afford to have these telephone bills. That's right. Can't afford it. I was finding I would, uh, call Joe in the morning'cause she was in Florida and I was in Chicago and I would call and I was taking a trip. I'd tell her I was taking a trip and then, oh, I'd call her and tell her. Back home, you know, we were on the phone a lot. Mm-hmm. A lot. Phone, a lot, and a lot of letter writing. We did a lot of letter writing. Oh yes. We were pen pals first. We didn't have text messages, you know, and, uh, well actually we started with a sympathy card. Mm-hmm. Uh, John's wife died in December and my husband died in July. So through, uh, John sent me a sympathy card with a little message in it. And I wrote back and told them how meaningful it was, and we became pen pals. And then the telephone, you started telephone, right? Yeah, the call started. Mm-hmm. And I called you one day and said, I'm coming to Florida. How about we go out to dinner? And you said no. Oh yes. And John's boss, who was the vice president of the company. His wife selected the site that we Right. Restaurant that we went to, the restaurant we ate at. And the restaurant's still there by mm-hmm. It is after what, what, 37 years? Yes, it is 37 years. Can't believe it, but uh, and we're still cooking and we still got technology. Uh, we still have, uh, watches that ring a phone and you can talk on'em. And we still have each other. Still have each other, which is great. Well, we've kind of rambled here for, uh, almost, uh, 20 minutes. I, I guess we wanna say we want to thank everybody who listens to us and who says, where are your podcasts? I think we're concerned about us. We have a, we get a, a message every week from, uh, one of our sources that tell us. How many listeners we have, they don't identify who they are, but they tell us what cities they're from and what countries, and we're amazed that, uh. When we look at some of the countries, uh, Mexico, Canada, Netherlands, Netherlands, west Indies, uh, Brazil, Argentina, even, uh, Ukraine. Uh, tell him about our son when he was in, uh, Cancun. Oh, our son was in Cancun on a little vacation. His birthday was, uh, this month. By the way, my birthday was too. If you wanna know, I turned 92 in December. My boy toy. My boy toy, my son turned 60. He was in Cancun with his wife and they met some friends of theirs down there and they said, where's your mom and dad's, uh, podcast? We haven't heard anything lately. So, uh, they wanted to hear. So this is for those friends. Uh, we, and by the way, we made a podcast last night and went to play it back and it didn't play back and found out that we had a defective chord. Uh, connecting our computer to our soundboard. So I hope this works. Uh, today. If it doesn't work, uh, John and Joe's our dead in the water. Maybe dead in the water. Exactly. Well, it's uh, December, what is it? December 28th? Mm-hmm. We had a nice Christmas. Uh, we're blessed to have a. Good friends in our neighborhood who keep us occupied and family nearby, family nearby, that advice us to come and eat. Uh, we haven't missed a meal. Uh, we haven't missed phone calls. We haven't had, we had people coming to the door. Now we wanna finish this with kind of something funny. We got a, a video doorbell. Joe said, we don't need a video doorbell. And I said, well, we live in a gated community. Yeah. I said, I'd like to get a video doorbell so we can see who's coming, even if they don't ring the bell. And this one, by the way, when they ring the bell, not only does the IT ring, but A-L-E-X-A also tells us there's somebody at the door and, and John can talk to them and John can talk, right? So this friend calls up and he says, uh, I got something I want to drop by your house. And we said, well, we're in our pajamas. He said, don't worry. He said, I'll leave it on the front porch. And we said, we have something for you also. Mm-hmm. Joe said, we'll leave it on the front porch. That all seemed well and good, and Joe said, why don't we get dressed? Because he said he'd be half an hour. Why don't we get dressed? And we did. And uh, I looked at the video doorbell and our friend had already come to the door and left his present, but he also had in his hand another package, and we had not left a package out there. Found out one of our other neighbors who went on a walk at six 30 in the morning had dropped a package off. And I know that,'cause I looked at the video doorbell and he and our friend took the package. It was meant for us. And he's waving, waving it, thanking us for the gift, which was not his gift, it was our gift. So I sent him a text message and I said, bring my gift back. And he did. He was almost home, almost home. He brought it back and, uh, gave us our gift. We gave us his gift, and, uh, a good laugh was had by all. But, uh, that, uh, that's the first time that's happened to us with our video doorbell and a gift, a porch, pirates. We've never had a post bar, but we had one. Okay. Joe, are we done? I think we are, we're done for the 28th of December. We wish you all a happy New Year and we and I, happy and healthy New Year healthy, happy. And we thank you for listening and uh, for now John and Joe are gonna say goodbye. Goodbye.
