Well, Let's kind of recap a little bit about who we are. Maybe some of you haven't listened to us before. You don't know who and why and you just stumbled onto us like we stumble onto stuff. Jo and I are senior-sized citizens. Jo is what? 97. 97. I'm 92. I mar- married a boy toy. Yes, you're right. She married a younger man. But, she's probably more healthy, than I am. Back in February- Well, I don't know about that February 17th, I had a pacemaker put in. tomorrow I go back to see PA at my, cardiologist office to do a device check, and they take a little probe and put it on the pacemaker and, make sure everything is working right. I feel pretty good. And, Jo's feeling pretty good. Are you feeling good? Yes, I am. she went to the doctor, what, two doctors this week. Pain doctor and her hiatal hernia doctor. The surgeon. Surgeon. He said, "We're not gonna do nothing. See you in six months, and if you get sick, go to emergency." See you there. I'll see you there. So there we go. Those are, are enlightening words. couple things we want to talk about, today, and, things we do. You know, a lot of people tell us that they have their elderly, you know, like we are, elderly family members, maybe listen to us, to get some ideas of what they should do and what we don't do and all those things. And kind of the purpose of our podcast is to try to help those of you who are our age or younger and- And don't think there's anything in life worth living for we- nothing ahead of you. So we've done a couple of activities, last couple of weeks. gee, we've been to a couple lunch groups. we're a member of several lunch groups. Our church, you know, lunch group we missed because Jo was at the surgeon's office. But, we have been to others. We've been busy with games. Every night we play, two games. Jo did not want to learn my Italian card game, and now she's hooked on it, and she wants to play it every night. She wins two out of three games, every night. I don't know how, she gets the things right, but it's the card game called Briscola, and there's another game called Scopa which we play with the same cards. And then after that game is over, we go into a round of Rummikub, which Jo also wins. We have people come in and we play. We go to our clubhouse and we play, We have card night card night. We just play around. other things that happened, a couple weeks ago, our great-niece got married. Yes. What a nice wedding beautiful, beautiful setting, in their backyard. Nor did the cows nor did the cows. But the cows seemed to enjoy it. We enjoyed it And the father of the bride made a big barn. This barn is so big that you could play basketball in it. Yes. And we had the reception in the barn. Mm-hmm. Not only that, but at one end of the barn, he's going to be building an apartment for the bride and groom to live in. Now, you have to understand, this family has eight children. Eight children. And, they all live very close. So, their mother and father did not want the bride to move too far away, so they built the apartment so she could still be in the backyard. Right. She can still come and do laundry at their house and still use their kitchen to cook meals and all that stuff, so. With good parents. With good, excellent parents. And I said, "Well, I'm gonna, I'm gonna get those." I ordered some from Temu, and, the Temu order came and they were too small But I returned them, got my $21.65 back. And why did you have to return them? Well, they didn't fit. Well, they were small. One of our other neighbors had said, "John, you, I will alter your bibs and I found a pair for you on Amazon." So I ordered those and, they were much, much, much too big. So I've been looking. I went to Goodwill. Another neighbor suggested we go to a second Goodwill that might have a, a bigger variety of, bib overalls. But that's, that's my goal, bib overalls, unbuttoned on the sides- so you can see, underwear, which I'll have to buy new underwear because it's gonna be seen. It has to be fancy. It has to be fancy. Something like, what's the name of that big place that people go to? Where? What big place? you know, where, Bucky. Oh, Buc-ee's? Yes. Oh, Buc-ee's. Yeah, Buc-ee's has underwear. Maybe I'll buy me some. You know, Father's Day is coming. Yeah, I can get me some Buc-ee's underwear. Now, I don't know if all of you know about Buc-ee's, but it's a huge area where they have food and they have everything. It's a gas station. But you cannot eat there. Yeah, they have like 100 pumps and, You can buy something to eat, so, but you have to eat it in your car. Right. They don't want you hanging around. It's like Waffle House. You know, Waffle House doesn't have Wi-Fi 'cause they don't want you hanging around Waffle House all the time, so. They want the want the seats to turn over often. Turn over. You know, I'll be in the grocery store carrying something, and all of a sudden my belt- my, my belt starts sliding,.. i bou- I bought these suspenders on, on Amazon. Paid big money for them. I got one pair was $5.25 and the other pair was I think $4.95. That pre-tax. And, well, I have a little problem with them, because etiquette says that you don't see the suspenders. You have to wear them under a shirt or under a suit. So I've been trying to follow that protocol, but when I go to the bathroom, I have to- I have to undo my suspenders, which is a problem because the front one- Then you can't get the back hook back on Well, I was., You know, our pool opened a couple weeks ago. Oh, by the way, they have Didn't know you could get those. You can get hum- comfort height toilets, which we indeed have, but, these are comfort height lounge chairs. So we've not tried them out yet, they have, ice cream socials at the, the pool- Sip and dip. Yep. Sip and dip means you, Drink you don't have to dip, but, and you don't have to sip, but you can eat. You can, bring food and cook it on the grill and share it with your, neighbor people who come up. And, you know, we'll take, like, grapes. You know, they're easy to prepare. And, and share those with our neighbors. Now, on a more serious side. It's graduation time they graduate Wednesday. Yes. And we were listening- To We, go to church on YouTube. It's just hard for us to get up and get out and do the walking, so thank goodness for YouTube. It's a long walk for me. You know, it used to be years ago when we went to church and people were, home bound, we used to take recordings. And I remember Jo and I used to volunteer- To take a recording to those people's homes so they could listen- That were homebound But now, YouTube and, or Facebook. You can do either one. But the talk today about the,, graduates was things that they're used to, and we started thinking about some of these things. And, you know, people who graduate from high school were born in probably 2007, 2008, and the iPhone came out in 2007, so these kids have never known life without an iPhone. Now, Jo and I have talked about telephones, and one day on Facebook, I saw an ad for a shirt with a rotary dial on it. And I bet most of you don't know what a rotary dial is. A rotary dial. And you could put your phone number on that T-shirt. So I told Jo, I said, "Jo, I'm gonna find my phone number when I was a kid." She said, "That's impossible." I said, "No, we got the internet." So we got on the internet, and lo and behold, I went to the Library of Congress microfilm, found 1949 year, Birmingham, Alabama- Telephone book telephone book. Looked up my name, and there it was, my dad's name, 2036 Bessemer Road, Birmingham. And my phone number was there, which I believe was, what, 7-2716, which I've had printed on my shirt, which I have not- Received yet but I asked Jo, I said, "Jo, what was your phone number?" I didn't have a phone. She had no phone. No. And I said- We had no means of communication other than face-to-face I said, "How did, your boyfriends date you if they didn't call you on the phone?" I said, "They appeared at the door." At the door. And- And I said, "How did you order pizza?" Well, there were- Well, there was no pizza. No phone, no pizza. So think about that. You know, kids today don't know what it is not to have an iPhone. I can tell you a story. I wish I'd had a phone, because when I was young, my mother said, "I think you have the measles." And we had one doctor in town, Dr. Jim. Dr. Jim Shelley. He lived about 10 blocks away from our home. So my mother packed me up, and we walked to the- Doctor Well, I got home and had the measles and pneumonia together, and my temperature was so high. I lost all my hair and had to go for oil treatments every week and to get the hair growth again. I wore bandanas when I went to school, and I was kind of, embarrassed to do that. But I got through it. So that's unfortunate, you know, that I had to have a sickness- Well- and we didn't have a telephone no telephone and, and you couldn't, you couldn't call anybody up. So you had to walk. So it's a good thing the doctor was fairly close by. Well, 10 weeks, or 10 blocks rather, 10 blocks. Well, we were talking about telephones and Jo's lack of a phone. We're talking about what children have today that they're not used to doing without. And, you know, we talked about, Amazon, and we talked about electric cars and, one thing that, we didn't have was, space flight and that we've got now. And one thing that I remember, The Big Bang Theory, those of you that watch TV a lot, came on in 2007. So, you know, TikTok, all those things, happened. So Jo, what else is, Many, many changes many changes in life. And here's the deal. You either go with the flow, I hope like we have, or you, sit back and complain, which we don't. No. I may a little bit, but Jo- Oh Jo straightens me out pretty much. Honest. Yes, that's a, a tough job. So, any other stories that we've got to tell before we end our, number 16 broadcast? we don't wanna tell too much, John. We want people to look forward to the next one. People That's right. Who knows what the next, episode would be like. It'll be, sometime in probably a couple weeks. You know, once we get our, equipment hooked up, it's hard to stop talking. Even though I saw somewhere where there's, like, 3 million podcasts, so I think last time we looked every other Monday, we get a report on who's listening, not by name, but by city, and I think we had close to 700, listeners Listeners And, but- We certainly appreciate them Yeah, and about 10, 10 countries. I don't mean states, I mean countries, so, So we just hope that we're an inspiration to many folks And you will, keep on living life Yes, indeed We'll end for now, and look forward to the next time. Bye-bye. See you later
