Welcome And The Big Question
RubenHey reimagineers, welcome back to the Disney Magical Mindset Podcast. My name is Ruben, and I'm so glad you're here because I'm here to help you reimagine what's possible to silence the villain in your mind so you can become the hero of your story. If you love Disney, if you love walking and being in a Disney park, I want you to believe today that the feeling you get of that magic that you experience is something that you can enjoy every single day of your life. And I have a very important question for you today. You ready for it? Here is the question: How much of your life is being controlled by what other people think about you? I'm not even talking about what they've said. I I want you to just focus in on what you think they're thinking. Because a lot of times that we get stuck in life is because we care too much about what other people think of us. It's not even being stuck because of lack of talents. You are talented. You've got so much opportunity and drive. It's there, but we often get stuck like we're frozen in Arendale because we care too much about what other people think of us, about other people's opinion. And the most freeing thing you can embrace today over your life that's going to give you the ability to go after your dreams, your goals, your ambitions, and to just experience your happiest place on earth is this powerful truth that I learned from Mel Robbins that let them theory. This last year I came across the book and this way of thinking, and it just was a game changer. It just changed my life. And so sometimes I feel like we just have to revisit these things because we often forget. And here's the truth you can't control what people think about you. You can't. You cannot control people's opinions about you. The only thing you can control is how much power you're willing to give it, because that power is yours. And every time, every time you stop, every time you freeze, every time you step back, every time you give up because of what someone thinks about you, you're giving your power away to something that was meant for you to use, right? To go after the things that you desire, to make the world a better place, to inspire and encourage other people with your gifts and your talents, right? Because you can't control what people think about you, but you can control how much power you give it. And today we're gonna take that power back. So are you ready? Because here we go. Now, here's the reality it is physically, neurologically impossible for you to control what someone else thinks about you. Can we just embrace that off the bat? You you this is important to remember and understand because you can say the right thing, you could do the right things, you could show up perfectly, and someone will still have something negative to say. It's just human nature. Why why tell them that is human nature? I I saw the uh the Michael Jackson biopic, which I loved. And guess what? There were so many people who had something negative to say because people will always have something to say about something. It doesn't matter how great something is, people will always have an opinion. It's always going to be the case. So let me ask you, why are you giving your power to something you have zero control over? Because the moment you do that, you stop living your life and you start performing for other people's approval who aren't going to be happy with it anyway, who are always gonna have something to say anyway. And I'm like, no, man, we can't be living that life, we can't be doing those things. That's not how you build and create your happiest place on earth by trying to make everyone else happy. And in the meantime, you lose out because you know in the process of trying to do that, it's impossible to do anyway. So, my friends, we've got this one gift of life. And I'm like, let's live this life to the fullest with everything that we've got, not trying to win the approval of other people or care about other people's thoughts and opinions about me. Nah, man, that's when you freeze. That's when you hesitate, that's when you talk yourself out of the very things you want to do, not because you can't, but because of what someone else might think. And when you take a step back and you start to process it, you're like, why am I even wasting time with this? It's not even worth it. Ooh. And this is where I think about my hero, Walt Disney. He said this I am a patient listener, but opinionated to the point of stubbornness when my mind is made up. Think about it. He listened, he wasn't closed off, but when he knew what he wanted, he was stubborn. That's what I'm talking about. And you have to believe when it came to building Disneyland, there were a lot of opinions. Everyone had an opinion on everything. And most of the opinions that I've read about and as I've learned this Disneyland story were negative opinions. Opinions of it not happening, opinions of wasting your time, opinions of actually thinking, Walt, that you can do this. Are you crazy? Kind of opinions. People who didn't get it, people who thought it wouldn't work, people who couldn't see what he saw, and he didn't spend his life trying to convince them. That's what I love. He wasn't wasting his time or his energy on trying to convince the people who were always gonna have something negative to say anyway. He stayed committed to the vision, and that's why we're in awe and we're amazed that Disneyland was built in one year. You imagine the focus and the energy and all the power that it took to invest in this dream. And if he had wasted it on other people's opinions and what people thought of him and what they were saying about him, it would have never happened. You know this, and I know this, which is why we are always amazed and in awe and have this feeling that we get when we step into a Disney park, all because of one man who said to himself, I if I'm gonna use any energy and if I'm gonna use any power of mine, it's not gonna be on the people who have something bad to say and are always gonna have something bad to say. Even when Disneyland was built, even on that day, on July 17, 1955, when things didn't go right and when it seemed to be like it was a failure, what all the critics were saying, Walt still pressed into this vision because he saw it when no one else did, and he was gonna be stubborn about it. And and he was gonna not allow what people thought of him or thought of his park to keep him off track. And this is the kind of dedication we need. This is the kind of attitude that we need to build our happiest place on earth. Go ahead and talk. Go ahead and say what you're gonna say. You're not gonna stop me from living my life, from finding my joy, from stepping into a Disney park, from going on the rides, from living my Disney adult life and having fun doing it. Say what you're gonna say because you're gonna say it anyway. Even when it looks perfect, even when it seems like there's nothing you can nitpick about it, someone will always have something to say. So, you know what? Go ahead. Because I'm gonna do my life. I'm gonna fly to Neverland. I'm gonna take flight, I'm gonna have the best time of my life because all we get is this life here. So, like, let's live it to the fullest and not worry about other people's opinions. Because if we do, then you don't get to build your happiest place on earth. If we do, then it never gets built. If you keep listening to everyone else what they're saying, you're just wasting energy on something you can't control anyway. Walt even talked about how hard it was to get people, especially bankers, to understand what he was building. He basically said, it's pretty hard for banking minds to go with it. So I had to go ahead on my own and develop it to a point where they could begin to comprehend what I had on my mind. Let that sink in. He didn't shrink the vision so people would understand it. He built it anyway. He knew what they were thinking, and he wasn't gonna scale back and he wasn't going to somehow allow their opinions to minimize his dream. So stop trying to shrink your vision so other people can understand it, because some people just aren't gonna get on that level. And so many people they miss out on their vision, on their goals, on their dreams because they care too much about what people think in the process. They don't get to experience the life that they were that they were destined for, like the life that they were meant to live because they care too much about other people, about other people's opinions. So, what if you flipped it? What if we flipped it? What if you gave yourself permission to live your life and gave other people permission to think whatever they want about it? I mean, let them not get it. Let them question you, let them have their opinions, even about something as simple as going to Disneyland, my favorite place. Being a Disney adult, chasing joy, choosing a different kind of life. Let them think and say what they're gonna say because they're gonna do it anyway, whether you like it or not, you know? Because the moment you stop trying to control their opinion is the moment you take your life back. It's the moment that you find the freedom to experience your happiest place on earth. Listen, if you weren't worried about other people's opinions, what would your Disneyland look like? I want you to just think about that this week. If you weren't worried about people's opinions, what would your Disneyland look like? What would you go after? What would you start? What would you finally stop holding back on? Because that's what this is really about. Your version of the happiest place on earth isn't a location, it's a life. And that's what I want to continue to encourage you with. That's why I say what I say, because I mean it, like I feel it, and I want to help you experience it and live it because it's the truth. Your version of the happiest place on earth isn't a location, it's a life. And you get to live that life when you're not in a Disney park, even when you're not there walking down the middle of Main Street as much as I love it. Like you get to experience that because that location is where you are, because you bring the magic, right? And it's what we keep saying. You don't go to a Disney park to get the magic, you go to be reminded of the magic that's in you. And that's how you get there. You get there not by waiting for everyone to approve it, you get there by deciding it's yours to create. Just like Walt decided that it was his time to create when everyone else said no, when all he had to start off with at one point was a field of dirt and orange groves. And look at what happened when he decided to stop waiting for other people to approve it. And he's like, I'm gonna create. I'm gonna create because that's where the magic happens. I'm gonna create because I know I have the ability in me to use that magic, that energy, that power on not on other people's opinions about me, but on what I need to do to get there. Because if I do that, then I'm just I'm going nowhere. And I'm never gonna be able to see the castle that is right in front of me, waiting to be built and created. Do you know that 95% of what you want in life you can create? You got it in you. If you're willing to work, stay consistent, stay disciplined, and stay patient. But here's here's something that it it brings it all together because none of that matters if you keep giving your power away to other people's opinions. It's like, so yes, you could create 95% of what you want in life, you could do it. If you're willing to work, stay consistent, stay disciplined, and be patient. But it doesn't matter if you keep giving your power away to other people's opinions. I can't tell you how freeing it is. Again, when I when I came across this powerful truth from Mel Robbins, it was a game changer for me. And and again, I I I the reason why I'm bringing it up is because we just need to be reminded, because we often forget. And so part of my, I feel like one of my responsibilities as I share these magical life lessons is just to remind us of things that we that we know, but we gotta remember or we forget. And it's like we gotta come back at it again and again and again and still it in because we forget, but but also so that it continues to like stick in our mind and in our hearts. It's an amazing experience. This freedom that that that came from the feeling of just like wow, when I when I really started experiencing the power of not worrying about other people's opinions about me. Yeah. When when you stop living for people who aren't living your life, you know what I'm saying? Like in my life. So so that's the power that comes from and the freedom that comes when when you stop living for people who aren't even living your life. So so let me leave you with this. What if you gave yourself permission to live your life? And we give other people permission to think whatever they want about it. There's power there. I'm telling you. There's power there because what we've been saying is the moment you stop trying to control their opinion is the moment you take your life back. And that right there, my friends, that's the real magic. So go live your life. Go chase what lights you up, go build your own happiest place on earth. And yeah, they're gonna doubt you, but that's okay. Because while they're doubting, you'll be out there living your happiest place on earth. Hey, if this episode spoke to you, if it encouraged you, if it reminded you of something that really gave you some joy, some peace, some power to take back today, would you please share it with somebody who can use this magical Disney encouragement today? As always, I really appreciate you being here. Uh go out there and have the best day ever. You deserve it because this is your happiest place on earth. You get to create it, and I'm just grateful that you give me an opportunity to be part of that with you. Until next time, keep dreaming, keep believing, and don't ever, ever give up. Remember, remember always you are the magic because the magic is in you.
