SPEAKER_00

Hey nerds, I'm Kim, your favorite millennial. Fueled by memes and existential dread with a brain full of movie quotes and a relevant trivia. And I'm Pam, Generation X.

SPEAKER_01

Fluent in sarcasm and intrusive thoughts, and old enough to remember when video killed the radio star.

SPEAKER_00

And together we're hysterical. Two sisters with zero chill, wildly different takes, and an alarming amount of useless knowledge. So if any of that tickles your fancy, welcome.

SPEAKER_01

Here are kind of people. And this is Kim.

SPEAKER_00

And today's episode is iconic foods in movie and television. Yummy. Was that Jim Carrey?

SPEAKER_01

Actually, no. Oh it was from We Sing Grandpa's Magical Toys, if you remember. Do you remember who said it?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. It was Yummy. Oh my God.

SPEAKER_01

Remember they were they were giving out the Muffin. Yeah, from the Muffin Man.

SPEAKER_00

From the Muffin Man. And there's the clown, but it wasn't the clown. Punchinello. It was not him. It was um the other main character. Oh my god. I can't even picture him. He's tall and slender.

SPEAKER_01

And he's British.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. Just tell me.

SPEAKER_01

It's the sailor.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. I'm so mad.

SPEAKER_01

It's okay. All right. Let me just say I use that reference all the time. And obviously, nobody ever gets it.

SPEAKER_00

No, no one has ever heard of that movie ever.

SPEAKER_01

No, no. But um I'm really excited about this episode. So excited.

SPEAKER_00

Also excited. I have a ton. Um and it's a little overwhelming, but I think that we will probably have some similar answers or references. And I have a couple of like drinks in there too.

SPEAKER_01

I have one or two drinks. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, just a couple.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And I put it in my little miscellaneous category because I didn't have a whole lot, but they are so notable. But shall we start with the one film that we usually refer to when we talk about amazing looking food in film?

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Do you remember what I referred to?

SPEAKER_00

Of course. Uh the pizza in a goofy movie.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, man. That's so gooey. So cheesy. Yeah. So gooey. Yes. It looked so freaking good. Um, it did. Before we get into further, which I I do want that pizza so much, but I just want to ask something. So because I have a I have different things here. When we talk about iconic food, it doesn't necessarily mean food that looks good that we want to eat that's in movies and TV. It also means certain scenes or certain foods that are so famous or notable in a movie or TV show. Okay. I just wanted to clarify because I have both. So yeah, same here.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. I have things that are, and I like I told you, I have everything categorized, but one of the longest lists, which is weird, is gross or unfortunate foods and film.

SPEAKER_00

That is weird because I don't think I have any gross things listed here.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. I came, I came across a good handful. Okay. I'm curious. Yeah, scenes in movies where it's like okay, this happens a lot when I watch a movie. Sometimes when they like have to eat something for a challenge, or if they're playing around, and then you know the actor has to eat this food, you're just like, oh my gosh. Um let me just first point one out, which is one of your favorite films, and that's e.l.f. Oh, that concoction.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. He I just I actually read that he like vomited after doing the first take. Well, yeah, he's too old to be eating all that sugar.

SPEAKER_00

Um do you have the ingredients listed? Because if not, I can tell you what it is. You know what? Bring it because I didn't have a few minutes. Okay. Yes. He has spaghetti with maple syrup, chocolate syrup, MMs, marshmallows, and crumbled Pop Tarts on top.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

I know. It's so much sugar.

SPEAKER_01

That is so much. Like, I can't even describe how much is wrong with that meal.

SPEAKER_00

I know.

SPEAKER_01

I'll take the spaghetti.

SPEAKER_00

Eight-year-old Kim would have been all over that.

SPEAKER_01

I know, I know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. 39-year-old Kim, not so much.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, imagine eating that for a film, and the director's like, cut, cut, cut, we gotta do another take. Yeah. I mean, I just can't.

SPEAKER_00

Well, most of the time, they make food to look like food.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But I think in this case, I don't know. I think that it was genuine ingredients in this one. Like they didn't. Yeah. And they shouldn't.

SPEAKER_01

Will Farrell, I can't imagine anything different.

SPEAKER_00

True. Yeah, he's all in. Yeah. Yeah, that's really funny. Well, I want to go back to pizza real quick because I have a few that are in the pizza category. Um, okay. So to stick with cartoons, so Goofy Movie is at the top for sure. But there's also the pizza in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, um, which always looked really good. But another pizza that I completely forgot about in a movie that I very much love is the pizza that Charlie eats in All Dogs Go to Heaven.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That one is also very gooey and cheesy, and it looks delicious.

SPEAKER_01

Um I don't know what it is about animated. Maybe it's because you imagine it to be as it is in the in anything animated, but something about it, the artwork, it makes it so much more scrumptious. I don't know what it is. Yeah. Yes. But yes, that's very, very true. It's uh something about it, the texture, it's it's like they give us what they know we want to see. Yeah. But the real pizza, you know, you don't have that.

SPEAKER_00

So right. Um, and then the last pizza that I wanted to mention is the one from Home Alone 2 that was Oh, yeah, definitely. A big part of his uh Yeah. That's very New York. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, and you know, speaking of, I guess I'll add to that. Can we give an appreciation to the way John Travolta stacked the slices in Saturday Night Fever? I don't know if you've seen that. I have not seen that. He took two slices of pizza and literally just stacked it on top. And he was walking, you know, down the streets of Manhattan, and he's eating it like that. And I'm like, that is so that just looks so good. It probably would even be good if it was inside out.

SPEAKER_00

I have a question. Um, how were they stacked? Just one on top of the other, or were they folded together like a sandwich where like the the crust was on the top and bottom?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it wasn't cheese to cheese or anything like that. Oh, okay, okay. It was it was stacked to where it was just two pieces on top of the top. Two pieces on top. Got it. Yeah, I think I needed it. He's eating it while he's walking, and he it just he's like, you know, let me just get these, you know, two pieces knocked out, you know. And it just looks so good like that. I'm like, okay, nice, and don't forget it's a New York pizza, so it's flat.

SPEAKER_00

That's definitely my favorite.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, New York style pizza is so good. It is, it is. Um, and I have had New York pizza, and I can confirm that. Yes. Me as well. I can't think of any other pizza scenes, but I would love for our listeners to submit, but I can't think of any other scenes that involve pizza.

SPEAKER_00

I can't either. Um, I do want to go back to a goofy movie because of um The Leaning Tower of Cheesa. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Somehow I heard that in Polly Shore's voice.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um it's the leaning tower of Cheesa.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, yeah, gosh, that he first of all, he did a great job. Um he did. It was a great job. It was replica. Yeah. Um, but yeah, I did love cheese whiz when I was a kid. And um did you? Did you use it a lot? Uh not a lot, but I would put it on, you know, some Ritz crackers, and you know, I don't eat it anymore. It's super processed, obviously. Um, not that I don't eat other processed foods, but cheese, cheese whiz to me now is just so gross. But um, yeah, yeah, that that tower of cheese looked so good. And then he would eat it, and then it was just like cheese everywhere, and yeah.

SPEAKER_01

See, I'm I I have never really been a cheese, cheese person, but I do, yeah, like I don't, I'm not an I can't have enough cheese type of person. Like if I order a pizza, they always ask you on the app, they'll be like, Do you want to cheese it up? And then if you don't, you gotta hit the tiny little X. I'm always trying to hit the tiny little X. Like, no thanks.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, I don't want extra cheese, but cheese is something that's like a necessity in my life for sure.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I just mean extra because I can't take I can't take an overload of cheese.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like just enough to know that it's cheese, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, I got you.

SPEAKER_01

Um what about going back to gross food and films?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um do you remember the scene in vacation, National Lampoons Vacation, when he's like flirting with Christy Brinkley with the sandwich in his hand. Yeah. He's like, you know, holding it and everything. And then the the the wife goes, Oh my gosh, the dog peed all over the sandwiches. He spits it out.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, I completely forgot about the dog peeing on the sandwiches.

SPEAKER_01

I'm like, I see now picnic sandwiches or sandwiches in travel, it's always like, oh, that sounds amazing, right? Yeah, yeah. Or at the beach. Yes, yes, yes. But that just about ruined it. I was like, oh my gosh. He was so excited to have a sandwich like that. We need that comic relief right there. He was flirting away.

SPEAKER_00

He was so good at it, too. Something that I watched recently, I'd really like to point out because it was this was a famous scene before I ever saw the movie, which is the grilled cheese in Chef.

SPEAKER_01

Oh gosh, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, yes, yes, 1000%. Movie a few weeks ago. And not only is it a really good movie, I liked it way more than I thought I would. It was very endearing. And John Favreau, he's a great actor. I have gained so much respect for him, which, by the way, one of my goals in the beginning of this podcast, which I have been failing, was to mention Seinfeld in every single episode we record. Um, and I have not done it in a few episodes. But I will say that one of John Favre's first roles was in Seinfeld. Did you know that?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I think I remember hearing about that, but I don't remember his scene or anything.

SPEAKER_00

Well, he played a clown, so you it doesn't even look like him. But his voice, I mean, you can definitely tell it's him from his voice.

SPEAKER_01

Is that the one where George runs out of the thing because there's a fire? Because there's a fire. Yeah. Okay. Then that's probably why I remember that. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So John Favreau plays Eric the Clown. Anyway, that's my Seinfeld reference for this episode. Um, but in Chef, um, he makes this amazing grilled cheese, and just like for fun, I wrote down the the ingredients, which are super quick. So he uses sourdough bread, which I've never had a grilled cheese with sourdough bread. What? So good. Sorry. Sourdough bread, and then four types of cheeses. He uses white cheddar, yellow cheddar, parmesan, and grill. And it looks amazing. And he puts so much love and passion into that one grilled cheese silver. Um, okay, what's your next one?

SPEAKER_01

Well, if okay, are we if we're talking about are we talking about sandwiches in popular?

SPEAKER_00

I I I'm sorry. I know I know that your list is categorized, mine is not. Oh, gotcha. So I do apologize.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay. So that's probably why you said what's your next one? Gotcha. Yeah. Okay. Sorry.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's okay. But you can stick to sandwiches if you want. I mean, I think I have I do not have any other sandwiches. So okay. Yeah. Whatever you want to do.

SPEAKER_01

Well, since we're on the topic of sandwiches, and my list is not crazy long, um, but I will say that when you speak about notable scenes in film, and you were to say sandwich, the the one that came to mind first was from our aforementioned breakfast club. And she was eating, if you remember, Captain Crunch and Pixie Sticks on a sandwich. I I actually when I when I watched it as a kid, even as a kid, I was like, she's gotta be kidding me. But when she took a bite, I'm like, she's that sounds really good.

SPEAKER_00

It does look really good and sound really good. And I like when she takes the meat and throws it and it sticks to the to the statue. Statue. That's really funny.

SPEAKER_01

Um go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, I just I have a couple burgers that is in the sandwich category.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

But if you want to make sandwiches, I don't have burgers.

SPEAKER_01

I have burgers in their own list, I have sandwiches in their own list. And this is maybe controversial.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like a burger is a sandwich, but a sandwich is not a burger. Right. I see what you're saying. Yeah, so it's bread, meat, bread.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, which is a sandwich, essentially. It is, because they do say, you know, what kind of sandwich do you want with your meal? And it'll be, you know. But anyway, I yes, that's true. But I I think that burgers themselves deserve a category. So but before we go on to that, since we're talking about unfortunate sandwiches, I just have to mention okay, how disgusting the sandwich is on Napoleon Dynamite when they get done doing their um egg collecting job. And then they said, I got some lunch for you. And then it's like these egg sandwiches sitting on a picnic table.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that's right.

SPEAKER_01

And there's it, there's flies all around it and everything. Yeah. Yeah, that is gross.

SPEAKER_00

But let me tell you And then the way that he eats them even makes it even more gross. Like, oh god. But an egg sandwich sounds so good right now. Yeah. An egg salad sandwich. Oh man. But yeah, that is that that is super gross. Um, speaking of Napoleon Dynamite, I do have tots. Like, obviously, that anytime anyone talks about tots, people most people will think of that movie. So definitely iconic.

SPEAKER_01

And ever since that movie, I have never called them tater tots. Right. Now I only refer to them as tots, and that's just the way it is.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So since we're on the subject of Napoleon, I also want to add that I am a huge fan of interesting movie intros and like, you know, the title sequence. And I love the title sequence in that film. And if you remember, they had a very gross, disgusting, you know, kind of ending with that burger. And I always thought that was really cool. Do you remember that?

SPEAKER_00

No, I don't remember. No. I gotta be honest. I've only seen it a couple times, and it a lot of it has not stuck with me. Like I I remember certain things. I remember I'm not gonna point out all the things I remember, but I don't remember the opening sequence, and I don't remember the burger at the end.

unknown

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Well, if you watch, if you well, I know that you're not a fan of YouTube, but if you must, I use it occasionally when needed. I know. I'll have to send you the clip so it forces you to go into it, but it's basically, you know, a whole sequence of of the actors and and crew's name on different things, like chapstick and um a book checked out at the library.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I do remember that.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And then the name of the director was, I believe, written in mustard. And then they squirted like on I don't know if it was on the burger or maybe off to the side on a napkin or something. I don't know, but it it's really, really cool. You should check that out again. Oh right. So speaking of burgers, anyway, yes. Let's um let's segue.

SPEAKER_00

I I got a couple burgers. I have so obviously I have Good Burger from the movie Good Burger. Um there's nothing special about it, but that is a movie that I grew up with. Um, I'm 99% sure it was a skit first on all that, and then they turned it into a full-length movie with Keenan and Kel.

SPEAKER_01

Um which has which has really produced a hate of mine with orange soda.

SPEAKER_00

I do, I do, I do.

SPEAKER_01

Oh gosh, no. I will never have orange soda because of him.

SPEAKER_00

Super cringe, yeah. But anyway, so good Good Burger always looked delicious, even though it's been a while since I've seen the movie, but I think the moot the burgers were made out of something that was not food, like it was super like synthetic burgers. Do you remember the movie? Have you seen it?

SPEAKER_01

I have not. I just remember the whole theme of the movie, and I remember the theme of the skit that was on all the movies. Yeah, it was super silly.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so the skit was something completely different than what the movie turned into. The skit was just basically Kel being an idiot. His name was Ed, actually. And um, Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Gerdburger, can't I take your order? Um and so that was like a whole thing, just him being silly. But then the movie was like this whole conspiracy where Kenan and Kel found out that like a competitor across the street was this huge I think they were called Mondoburger. And they were like making these burger, it doesn't matter. Um I felt that coming. Sorry, I just I get so frustrated with myself because I'm just rambling at this point. But and it doesn't even matter, it has nothing to do with what we're talking about. I just wanted to talk about the Good Burger of Good Burger, and it's an iconic food of a movie that has to do with food. Um another burger is Krabby Patties from SpongeBob. Yeah, I wrote that down. They look so good, they do look good, and I this is gonna cause some hate. I do not like Spongebob. I am not a fan of Spongebob, he annoys the crap out of me. I've never seen a full episode. I know of the characters, I know of the Krabby Patties. I think that I um resonate with Squidward because he's so cranky all the time. Um so I get it, but like I do I I don't know why. I'm like a I am a millennial through and through, but I cannot watch Spongebob. And I'm sorry. I'm sorry to our listeners.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I mean, you I'm backing you up on that because I'm not a fan either. And even though I am older, there's a lot of things that you you grew up on that I liked anyway. But Spongebob, I think the reason. Possibly that you don't like SpongeBob is that it's it is very crude, like I would say immature, crude humor, um, which is why you probably resonate with Squidward because he's over it, you know. So I get it. I never got into it for that reason. I don't usually like quote the gross cartoons. The only one I'll put in that category that I did really like was Red and Stimpy Were you gonna say that?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. So but I just like their um their close-ups, they were so gross, but they were so well drawn out.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, yeah. But it was intentionally gross, and Red and Stimpy was definitely not for kids. They might have advertised for kids, but it was more for like an older generation, not generation, yeah, an older like set of children, I guess, like later, like teenagers, but like SpongeBob is aimed at kids, and yeah, it's like gross and weird, and I like weird, but I just couldn't do it.

SPEAKER_01

Um I wasn't I wasn't a fan, yeah. But I I just remember the Krabby Patties, and I just remember how they they're very white castle, they're very just to me, they just looked just like they were the perfect size, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. For sure. Um but that's all I got for burgers and sandwiches. Let me double check. Um, yep. Yes. Yeah, that's all I got. Oh. Um I wrote down pulp fiction because I know that there's something about that movie and food, but I just don't know what it is. Okay, okay, okay.

SPEAKER_01

That was the scene where he stole it from he took it from the guy, he started eating it, and he was interrogating him, and it was called the Big Kahuna burger. And he was really raving about it, but still had a gun to the guy's head. And it was just like you the burger looks so good that you're forgetting that this guy might just lose his life, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Right, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I couldn't it's such a good scene.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And something about a milkshake, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I actually wrote down milkshake from Pulp Fiction 2 in my sweets category because that milkshake looked so good. Um, I'm more of a, I don't know if this is controversial, but I'm more of a milkshake person than I am an ice cream person. And every time I have ice cream, I just cream it up. Like I don't, I don't want to be. Yeah. Like I melt it, I mix, I, you know, go crazy with the spoon trying to mix it up and everything. You know why you do that, right? Why do I do that?

SPEAKER_00

Because a mom. Oh, she used to do that? Yes. She always put ice cream in the microwave. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. She wouldn't, she would not make it like super liquidy, but she would always soften it to where it was like you could practically put it into a cup and drink it out of a straw. Like it was super soft. Yeah. Yeah. That's probably why you do that. Um, yeah, maybe. I have an ice cream scene in a movie. Um, first of all, I didn't write this one down, but definitely the ice cream that Kevin eats in the first home alone, um, that's like an iconic scene where he's like, Oh, yeah. That thing was crazy. Or the other way around. I'm watching junk and eating rubbish. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I think you were right the first time, but that's an interesting approach.

SPEAKER_00

But the one I did write down is um, and this is not, I don't know if this would be considered iconic, but in Bill and Ted's excellent adventure. Yes. I wrote that one. Yeah, and Napoleon ate the whole thing. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know how he was able to get up from that seat after that after that.

SPEAKER_00

I so much ice cream. But yeah, yeah, so that's all I have for ice cream. But um, do you have any other ice cream or you said you had dessert things?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I have sweets and I put slash snack. And the only snack I have, and this is my contribution to Seinfeld, was the pretzels. These pretzels are making me thirsty.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, dang, I can't believe I didn't write them down. I'm an embarrassment.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, but you did you did contribute, so it's okay. All right. But since we're on uh the category of sweets, okay, yeah. Now I will say every single time I made a category, the very first one that was on my list was what I always like thought of first. And the very first thing I thought of when I think of sweets in a movie is the cake in Matilda.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's the first sweet thing that I wrote down. That chocolate cake that Bruce has to eat. Oh my god, it looks so good and moist.

SPEAKER_01

And that is exactly if I were to, I mean, I my favorite is marble cake, but if I were to get one or the other, I love the idea of the chocolate with the chocolate icing. Yeah, it's it just like you said, it would just look so moist, and then it just a little bit of like ice cream with it. Oh my gosh, it would have been amazing. But the way he looked at the end of that, I was like, oh god, big glass of milk. Yes, very much a staple, yeah, with anything sweet with me. Yeah, but thanks, Mom. She always had milk with everything. Rhonda.

SPEAKER_00

She wanted to make sure our bones were strong.

SPEAKER_01

That's right.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, so it's I definitely write that one down. It's so good. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And okay. I don't know if you've seen this movie, but don't go into this movie hungry. But the movie Marie Antoinette, have you seen that? No. Oh, with uh it's directed by Sophia Coppola. No, not at all. It's Kirsten Dunst is Marie Antoinette. I know, but like historical movies are like not my jam. It's got a lot of comedy and it's got a lot of music, and it's just real, it's kind of fun. And it's just an interesting comedic take. Um, obviously, there's some drama, but not very much. And it's just just a fun movie. Oh, okay. The the whole theme of the movie, she's just always surrounded by these desserts. And I know that whoever did the baking for this movie had their work cut out for them because there was so much stacks on stacks on stacks of sweets. Yeah. Um, very, very beautifully laid out, too. I mean, if you I please believe me when I tell you, you're probably assuming a completely different type of movie. You definitely should check it out. From an aesthetic standpoint alone, it's just a beautiful movie. Um, but yeah, so definitely check that one out. But also on this, on the whole sweets kick, when it comes to um pastries and whatnot, um Grand Budapest Hotel.

SPEAKER_00

You made me so mad. We're still back and forth. Yes. Well, I thought you were done. I love that movie. Of course I write that down. So I will take over.

SPEAKER_01

Um please share with our listeners how much you love this movie.

SPEAKER_00

So Grand Budapest Hotel is a Wes Anderson movie, and it's amazing if you haven't seen it. But the food that is frequently mentioned in that movie is Mendel's pastries, and the pastries look so good. And I'm not a big pastry person. I don't like fruit with my sweet. Like sweet, I usually think of like sugar and chocolate. Like I don't usually want like fruit, but except for apples.

SPEAKER_01

Apple is great with pastries.

SPEAKER_00

Don't speak for me. That is all you. Yes, it is. Um, I was just talking about that yesterday. That's so weird. I don't like the texture of baked apples. Um, so I don't like apple pie and apple shroudle and blah blah blah. Anyway, um, yeah, so Mendel's M-E-N-D-L S um pastries. It it's just like, ugh, it's so good. They look so good. And then when they bake all of those, all of those tools inside of pastries. Do you remember that? It's yes, for because so he could break out of prison. Um, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so good. So good. Um, yes, and visually stunning once again. Yes. Um, of course. Can we just also mention, yeah, and the packaging alone, it just makes my eyes smile. I love seeing beautiful dessert packaging. Yeah, I don't know what it is. It's so beautiful. Like you go into crumble, you know, or whatever. It's just so cute the way that they have all that stuff.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I I think that you and I are both such a sucker for design on packaging. Yes. Like, I'm surprised my house isn't filled with it. Something can be can be complete garbage, but if the packaging is good, forget it. Yeah. Or the design on the label or whatever. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Case in point, those band-aids called wellies. I know.

SPEAKER_00

They're so cute.

SPEAKER_01

These two are adorable.

SPEAKER_00

$17 for a box, but who cares?

SPEAKER_01

I know. I know. But I I never buy them. But I kid you not, every single time I'm looking at the band-aids, I see them. I'm like, one day, one day, I'll be back for you.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, yes.

SPEAKER_01

But um, okay, okay, okay. So staying on the course of pastries, okay. I don't know if you've seen this film, but it's a very controversial scene in this film. Or I shouldn't say controversial, it's a very tense scene in the film Inglorious Bastards. I have seen it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, but I remember I cannot remember, no, but I I that is something that I noticed when I was researching, and I cannot remember the scene, so I didn't write it down.

SPEAKER_01

It's so good because I'm not gonna talk about the scene necessarily, but the way the tension is going back and forth between Christoph Waltz and I think her name is Diane Kruger. Oh I think that's her name. Yeah. Okay. And there's such tension going back and forth because she doesn't know if he knows what he's implying, he doesn't know if she knows this and that. And it's it's so and I'm the whole time I'm looking at what they're eating, and it just looks so good. And I'm like, okay, she's who you're saying she is. Okay, let's go. Let's wrap this up and get this thing eaten. Just eat it already. Yeah, so good. Another tense scene wrapped around a pastry is Flowers in the Attic. Have you seen that? No, I have not. Oh, Kim, you have gotta see that movie. It's it's it's very cheesy in some parts, it's very 80s, but it the story is so good and so um, you know, certain, certainly tense. But the what's the genre? Um, I think it's uh considered drama, um, maybe drama thriller. And it's actually based off of uh the VC Andrews series in the books. I think Flowers in the Attic, I think is the first one, but I can't remember. I'm really bad. And so the kids who are two teenagers and two, I would say around six years old brother and sister, and two teenager brother and sister, Christy Swanson is the older sister. Oh, okay. And she's the only one that you would really recognize, probably, but they are uh treated poorly and having to like sleep in the attic. And so they were stuck up there, they kind of made it their own, and the grandmother, who's awful, brings them food on a cart, like you know there's evil behind what she's feeding them, and then I don't want to say too much, but something in the pastry that she's doing is starting to make the younger son or grand her grandson um sick and they can't figure out why. And they don't have you know have way to prove it, and and that's just kind of a subplot in the film. And the funny thing is it's got this powdered sugar on it. And after that movie, you know, you see powdered sugar completely different, you know what I mean? But I you have to see that movie.

SPEAKER_00

Is it rat poison?

SPEAKER_01

It's something. Okay. I'm not gonna say what it is, but I go ahead and let your curiosity bring you to actually watching the movie because it's a great, it's a great film, and yes, it's cheesy, but yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, okay. I'll add it to my list. This is not a pastry, but um, I do have two sweet things here listed. Um, well, actually I have three. Yeah, I have sweets, yes. Um ET with Reese's pieces. Uh yes, yes, definitely a notable thing. Yeah, and then I have um this is a big deal for me. The oatmeal cream pie in Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

I I wrote that down. That looked amazing. My God. If I was shrunken down in a backyard and I came across an oatmeal crampie, I'd be in heaven. And honestly, they played it really well. Like they were like, oh my god, this is the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my entire life. And then they were just grabbing chunks. Oh my gosh. They would grab a piece of the oatmeal cookie and then dipping it in the cream and just stuffing it in their face. Oh my god, it looks so good. And I don't even like oatmeal cream pie sandwiches, but it looks so good. That's right.

SPEAKER_01

I used to be obsessed with them.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, really?

SPEAKER_01

But oh gosh, yes. Ask Michelle. But I do like to put um those and the fudge rounds, I like to put them in the fridge. They taste good firm. They're not necessarily good right out of the pantry or something.

SPEAKER_00

Gotcha.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but what since we're on the subject of Honey I Shrunk the Kids, I do want to give a shout out to Nathan of Nateflix Reviews on Instagram. Um, he mentioned that one of his favorite scenes involving food is the end of Honey I Shrunk the Kids when they presented the giant turkey. Yeah. And if you remember, you couldn't see over it.

SPEAKER_00

It was, yeah, it was blown up for sure. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And imagine being able to do that. Yeah. So I just really like that answer. I'm like, that's that's pretty epic, you know. That's a really good scene.

SPEAKER_00

It was a great scene, and that turkey looked very moist and delicious.

SPEAKER_01

It did. It did. Nice.

SPEAKER_00

That's a good, a good um suggestion.

SPEAKER_01

And imagine having, yes, it was. And imagine having leftovers for years.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, for years. Yes. Cold turkey sandwiches.

SPEAKER_01

That's right. All of your shopping days are pretty much over.

SPEAKER_00

The last sweet food I have, I wrote down Willy Wonka, which in itself there's a ton of sugary things that are referenced in that movie. But I feel like the most notable thing was the everlasting gobstopper and the way it looked.

SPEAKER_01

And not to have a back-to-back shout-out, but Bobby, our friend Bobby. Oh, yeah. He said he would always wondered what that tastes like. That is uh Bobby. Tobby underscore birdlehead on Instagram.

SPEAKER_00

Tobby Birdlehead.

SPEAKER_01

That's right.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like it would taste like a jawbreaker.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, that's exactly what I would think. Very, very sweet. Like straight sugar.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It just like it doesn't, it's not a specific taste, but it's just sugar. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, that's what I it would definitely and plus the texture would be annoying to me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Why has it all got all these like legs on it? Yeah. I know. Spikes is weird.

SPEAKER_01

You know what it reminds me of? You remember the bumble ball? Is that what it was called? Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Where you turned it on and it it vibrated and it jumped around. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It jumped around the floor and everything. Yes. Yes. Did you have one? No, you didn't have one.

SPEAKER_00

I had one for my dog.

SPEAKER_01

Did you?

SPEAKER_00

But I didn't personally have one, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay, okay.

SPEAKER_00

That's really funny though.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I remember I think Maddox did have one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It didn't it didn't take.

SPEAKER_01

It was a very short short phase in his life. Yeah. But yeah. Um the only other thing I wrote down for sweets. Um, I have a few here, but nothing that I voluntarily wrote, because a lot of this stuff is researched, you know. We cannot leave out the beloved Alice in Wonderland eat me cookies. Oh, those things looked so good. They almost look like they would taste like macarons or something.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they did look really good. Um and yeah, like the way food is eaten in a cartoon looks so satisfying. Like, I didn't write this, I almost wrote this down because it's my favorite Disney movie. But the way Abu bites into that loaf of bread that Aladdin steals, it looks so good.

SPEAKER_01

That's a great addition to this, honestly. Because this is really what the epitome of this whole thing is is like what do you see in a film that you're just like the way the character takes the bite, it almost makes it look so much better. Yes. For some crazy reason. Yeah. Sorry, go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

Which is funny because I have a couple of things written down that's from a cartoon, but it's more like a bonus answer because it's not human food, but it looks so good. Um but to go back to human food, um, we can't not mention the spaghetti and meatballs from Lady and the Tramp. Oh yeah, that's such an iconic scene.

SPEAKER_01

It is. And um that's another one that, you know, it just you think about a food in film, and that is very much always kind of comes to mind because of the moment. Right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, another thing I wrote down is Ratatouille from Ratatouille. Yeah. Um I would like to point out that literally every, literally every ingredient in Ratatouille is food that I would not eat. Um, do you have the ingredients? Yes. Oh, okay, okay. And this is all sliced, like little circles of sliced food. Egg cream, zucchini, squash. Disgusting. And then it's also mixed with like bell peppers and onions and like tomatoes. Gross. Ugh. I agree. But it did look good in the movie, in the cartoon.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And when he took the bite, yeah. And he his eyes just kind of opened up real wide, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, yeah, I bet that did taste that good. Give me some of that.

SPEAKER_00

But no, I'm sorry. Ratatouille is probably like the on the bottom of the list of foods that I would ever want to try. So I'm sorry, French people. Can't do it.

SPEAKER_01

Um I do like the accuracy in that film. Um, as far as like how much attention they took to the details of the dish. Yes. You know what I mean? Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And and and it is a great movie.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, definitely. Yes. Yeah. Um, I also say that. As if I've had Redatouy before, but or made it for that matter. But I just love I love targeted respect and film. Yeah. I love when they try to stick with the accuracy for the point of the respect.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. So agreed.

SPEAKER_01

Shout out to uh Pixar for that one, right? Is that Pixar? Yeah, it's Pixar. Yeah, okay. Okay, so I know you mentioned another animated film and how the food looks good. Pam! Don't even do this to me.

SPEAKER_00

What? I'm so worried that you're gonna.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think you said this. I honestly do not think you have this.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

It is now I'll be honest with you. It's not a film. Okay. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I'll allow it.

SPEAKER_01

And aka. It is a series. Now there have been films, I'm sure, but not like, you know, anything big. But I always thought that the lasagna and Garfield looked amazing. Oh, okay. Yes. Very stacked and colorful. Yeah. Just yeah, every time. Very hardy. It just yes, very hardy. But I recently learned, which I'm kind of a little bit taken aback by this fact. But a coworker of mine, shout out Chris, um, mentioned to me that there's like this video online. I'll have to dig it up. I haven't done it yet. He sent it to me and I completely forgot. Sorry, Chris. But it was a study that someone did, and he mentioned that Garfield's most commonly eaten food from his comics and I guess series was actually pizza and not lasagna. What? He talks about lasagna a lot. I know.

SPEAKER_00

I have never seen Garfield eating.

SPEAKER_01

That was my reaction. Exactly. I know. I know. Like, I didn't notice him eating pizza as much as I've very much obviously noticed him eating lasagna. Garfield.

SPEAKER_00

The guy proved it, is literally known for eating lasagna and hating Mondays. That's like his job. I know. I know. And so that's really weird.

SPEAKER_01

How did this happen? And the crazy thing is, I he he even gave me like all the facts that the guy was saying. And I'm like, so I guess, you know, a lot of the comics maybe would say would show him like eating pizza or uh talking about pizza. And I'm like, but why? I don't understand how I it I don't know if it's like a mandela effect, but I I have so many memories of him eating lasagna. And he did.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But I guess his most common food was pizza. So, but anyway, either way we look at it, they both look amazing. Yeah, they do. But the lasagna was just so scrumptious. I have made that literally one time in my life, and it was so time consuming that I'm not sure I would do it again. But maybe one day.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, lasagna, but it's a lot of fun. I love it so much. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's it's a little of everything Italian. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So good. So good.

SPEAKER_01

But okay, so what were you so antsy uh thinking I was referring to? I'm bringing it up.

SPEAKER_00

I was gonna say this to till the end, but I'm just gonna say it because um if you end up bringing it up before I do, I'm gonna be really upset.

SPEAKER_01

Is this what our podcast is now? Are we all like antsy over the fact that the other person's gonna mention what they wrote down?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, we're competing for the more interesting subject. Yeah. Um, so there are two things that are eaten in this cartoon movie that look delicious. The movie is The Land Before Time.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yes.

SPEAKER_00

So the more common.

SPEAKER_01

I know what you're gonna refer to. I do know one thing. I don't know the other.

SPEAKER_00

The more common thing that's eaten that um that I see reference more online is the tree star that little fit eats. I mean, that's basically the whole movie is him like hunting for this tree star that his mom told him about before she died. And um, once he gets this tree star, it looks delicious. And it's literally just a leaf that's in the shape of a star, and it looks great. But can we talk about the grass, the tall grass that Spike eats that is like encircled around him? Like he's in he's in the middle of this circle of tall grass, and oh my god, Spike the Stegosaurus, he just like makes it look so delicious.

SPEAKER_01

It looks so good. And then doesn't it isn't it like a progression thing? Like he's he dr he eats so much of it and then he ends up having one last bite and that's done. Something like that. Yeah, yeah. Okay, gosh, it's been so long, but I that that scene is, or I would just say a lot of scenes in that film definitely take a spot in my brain because I think about Sarah and the little brat she was.

SPEAKER_00

To this day, Sarah is the reason that Triceratops is my favorite dinosaur. I she would I know she was a brat, but she was sassy and independent. And if that ain't me, then I don't know what is.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I will say as a side note, Ducky is my favorite, but I do remember very, very clearly I used to repeat this to you a lot. And it would be the scene where Sarah said, I hope he doesn't eat any of you. And I always thought it was so cute the way she said that. She was such a little brat. Yeah. But but yeah, she had a lot of great one-liners in there. Yeah. So if you haven't seen Land Before Time, you guys should check it out.

SPEAKER_00

If you haven't seen it by now, then you've got problems.

SPEAKER_01

I know. I know. Especially the millennials. I know that we have a lot of millennials listening. Yeah, for sure. Because of you. Yeah. Yeah. I honestly feel like every single one of them could name one one-liner right now. So for sure. They should.

SPEAKER_00

Um, what else you got?

SPEAKER_01

Well, okay, so speaking of animated food, okay, this is another shout out to my son. My son Maddox. Hey Maddox. When I asked him this question, without a pause, he literally just jumped right in and said, The Calzones from We Bear Bears.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

And I gotta agree.

SPEAKER_00

Well If you've never Yeah, we have talked about this before, and I haven't seen it. Yeah. But um, but that's really cute.

SPEAKER_01

It's in season one, and it's the the episode is called The Food Truck. It is by far one of the greatest episodes. I don't know why. Maybe it's because of all the animals. I don't know. I don't know what it is about it. Maybe it's just the nostalgia from you know watching it with him.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But so they make these. I'm not gonna go through the whole plot of the show. Um, definitely check it out. I'm sure you can find it anywhere. But they are trying to make these calzones in their own food truck, and they want to be able to get customers, and they had to regroup and think about what they were gonna sell. And they came up with these, well, Ice Bear came up with this recipe of the calzones. It was a complete mistake, and they decided to start selling them, and they became like a huge hit. But these calzones, again with the gooey cheese, these things looked so amazing.

SPEAKER_00

I love that that's the first thing he thought of.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah. He those things like made him really want to have them.

SPEAKER_00

Do you have any other animated foods? I don't.

SPEAKER_01

I have one, well, I think, from this category, but I don't I didn't categorize animated, so they may pop up again. But one sequence in a film that I thought was really kind of fun. It was the Secret Life of Pets when they were at the sausage factory. Do you remember that?

SPEAKER_00

Kind of.

SPEAKER_01

That looked so fun. It was just a you know, they made it kind of like a dream sequence, you know, and it was just you know, connected sausages everywhere, and they dove into them, and they were, you know, laying around, you know, just taking it all in. And it was just a really fun scene. Yeah. That's all I got for animated sequences.

SPEAKER_00

One that I would really like to point out, which is a movie that is super near and dear to me, is Hook and the feast um that all of the Lois Lost Boys have um with their imagination. Yeah. And once Peter finally sees the food, it looks so amazing. And then it does. What looks even more amazing is are these pies that are made out of completely unnatural colors. Um, just like super bright red, yellow, green, blue, like um these just these really weird colored pies, but they looked so good.

SPEAKER_01

Um they did. I I even re-watched that scene for this um episode. And I was like, oh yeah. Like such a spread. Like so good. And it it was one of the once again, you know, it made you just kind of like just want to you wanted to dive in. So yeah, that was a really, really good scene. A lot of suggestions for that, honestly. And it was just like, okay, we're including it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um, it's definitely one of like few where I didn't have to research it to to think of it. Like, it just immediately popped into my head because I love that scene so much.

SPEAKER_01

Well, while we're on the subject of feasts, I think a really good addition to that topic would be Coralline. Have you seen that film? No, I have not. Okay, well, uh you don't need to have seen it, I can just say, but the the the the spread on the table was just amazing. But the really cool part about it is that they they had um I think turkey and everything. And then she said, please pass the gravy. And then they had a gravy train. They had a train track on the table that was in like a figure eight, I think. I can't remember. And they had a gravy sitting on the train car, and it would go on the track and it would stop in front of her food and would tip over right onto her plate. Oh, it was so cool. I love stuff like that. Oh yeah, yeah, you should definitely see that just for that scene.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I just thought of another movie for some reason. I don't know what you said that made me think of this. Um but the cheese on the moon in Wallace and Gromit. Oh yeah, that is a very good one. That looked really good too, and he was spreading it on the crackers and um so cute, and it looked so scrumptious.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, yeah, I don't know what what made me think of that, but yeah, Wallace and Gromit just in itself is just great. I love that series. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um you're you're the one that introduced me to it, actually.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, really? Oh, yeah, because I had the tapes. I remember I got them as a gift, I think it was in high school. It was the whole like three VHS set or something like that.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, that's exactly what it was. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, so good.

SPEAKER_00

So good.

SPEAKER_01

Um and we can't leave this topic without talking about Groundhog Day. Now, I think that was more of a breakfast spread, but oh man.

SPEAKER_00

The table in the diner or where was this? Yes. Okay, okay, okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. The table scene or the scene where they're when he just discovered, I guess, that you know, he's no, it was the day they were gonna film or the day that we're gonna record or something. I can't remember. But anyway, they're sitting at the table and there's just so much food, and it just all looks amazing. It's like it's one of those spreads that you don't know where you wanna begin.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. So, two things I'd like to say about that. Breakfast food is incredible, like it is anytime of day. I can't get over how amazing breakfast food is, but with a spread like that, it's one of those things where you just want to create your own slop. Like you just want to get a big plate or a big bowl and get a little bit of everything and just like have a little bit of everything in each bite. So I'm getting so hungry.

SPEAKER_01

I know. We should not have done this with you know the very little we ate beforehand.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, bad idea.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I guess going back to animated Beauty and the Beast was another one I mentioned because of the spread. It was just so much. Very good. The song number that went with it.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, yeah, yeah, that's a good one. I wrote down this is also a movie that I've seen recently, in addition to Chef, um, Blues Brothers. So I haven't seen that in decades. One of them, I can't remember their names. So Jake is John Belushi. He the when they go to a diner, he orders four fried chickens and a coke. And um that was such a uh a funny scene because the waitress is like like four pieces of fried chicken, and he's with like a very serious face. Four fried chickens and a Coke. Um, so that was really funny. But the main part that I wanted to bring up is that Elwood, who is Dan Aykroyd, he multiple times throughout the movie it's mentioned that he likes toast, but he specifies dry white toast. He always wants dry white toast, and that was a really like significant part of the movie that's mentioned several times. So I wanted to bring that up because I saw it very recently and I was like, this is so silly. I've not seen that. It's silly. Yeah, it was so.

SPEAKER_01

Since we're on the subject of breakfast food, the Rube Goldberg Machine sequence in Pee-wee's Big Adventure, and I know that you haven't seen the film, or at least you haven't seen it in a long time. Okay, you have not. I I have said that I don't know how many times we do an episode, and there's something in there that I'm like, Kim, you have to see this.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you bring up this movie a lot.

SPEAKER_01

I know. I'm telling you, and as a matter of fact, I think we made a deal, and I watched the film that you told me to watch.

SPEAKER_00

Um so yeah. We're gonna have to talk about this outside of the podcast because I'm 99% sure I did watch the movie that that I was supposed to watch in that conversation.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you told me to watch Nightmare Before Christmas, and I believe I told you to watch this. It's okay. We'll definitely tackle that one, but okay, so this scene in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure absolutely made me want to create that. It was just so well engineered, and it was so fun to watch. This Rube Goldberg machine comes together and you know, brings the bread, lowers it in the toaster, and then you know, there's this doing this and the bacon and the and the eggs, and it's just all, and then it ends up on his plate in a smiley face, you know, and of course it's just so good. It's so amazingly, you know, it's like the perfect breakfast, honestly. Um, there wasn't, I mean, it was lacking some sides, like we, you know, just mentioned, but it's it's one of those things where it's like the main eggs, bacon, toast kind of breakfast. And it just looks so fun, and it was probably one of my favorite parts of the whole film. So, dare I say again, you need to see that.

SPEAKER_00

It does sound really cool, and I'm a huge fan of Rube Goldberg machines. So um, which to be honest, should be a topic on its own in a different sub in a different podcast episode because I just thought of three movies that have significant Rube Goldberg machines.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, we're gonna add it. Okay, okay. But I will say on the subject of eggs, and this is in my gross category, is when Rocky swallows the raw eggs, that scene just makes I can't, I have to look away. I can't take it. I don't know how they do it. Uh people that do do it. I I don't get it, but it I can't even, it's like it's like seafood. Speaking of seafood, octopus, okay? Old boy, the original old boy, he eats live octopus. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

But that's normal in Korea. I know, but it just looks so gross. Yeah, I don't think I can do octopus.

SPEAKER_01

Koreans do a lot of things. They do that, I mean it's in their culture, obviously, but they do so many things that I'm like, oh my gosh. I can't. But but they're like, what? You know, yeah. But yeah, so that that was a tough scene. But would you do you have anything that's gross that you can think of?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I didn't write this one down, but the octavist made me think of it is the the meal in Betelgeuse. Um with the shrimp fingers, yes, yeah, so that's a very good addition.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, very notable food scene. Yeah, love it.

SPEAKER_00

But but no, uh the rest of the things that I've written down are not gross.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. I only have one addition to add to that, and then I'm closing the book on gross. But this is another one where it was one of the first things I thought of. Lost Boys. Have you seen that?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. Imagine a bowl of rice. Okay, but it's maggots.

SPEAKER_00

Ew, I was gonna say that. I was gonna say, is it maggots?

SPEAKER_01

You know. But then but the scene, the scene happens so fast because he's looking at the bowl and it's rice, and then he looks away or something. I don't know, I can't remember. And then he looks back and it's maggots, and then it's back to rice again. And I'm like, No.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's bad. No, but a lot of the things that you keep bringing up make me think of other things that I didn't write down. What about the bugs that Simba eats in The Lion King?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And he slurps down that caterpillar.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. That's so gross. But the funny thing is, is if I if I look at the film, it's like you have to pretend it's candy to be able to watch that. Yeah. If you think of it as bugs, I can't, I can't deal with it. So when I used to watch it, I would kind of like assume it was some kind of bug-shaped candy, you know, or jelly or uh, what's it called? Gummy worms. Yeah, gummy worms.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like I can't slimy yet satisfying. Yeah. I do have a not so much. I I have a drink, not a food. Um butter butterbeer from Harry Potter. Uh, yes.

SPEAKER_01

Um I've never seen the series, so, but I will say that that's probably um a good thing to add to the list, too.

SPEAKER_00

So, okay, so I have tried butterbeer, or at least what people think butterbeer should taste like. Um, I tried it first when I went to the Harry Potter section of Universal Studios. Um and basically it's just like a butterscotch drink. But for some reason, and I know that makes sense, it's like root beer, but with butterscotch. So essentially that makes sense. But for some reason, when I watch Harry Potter, that's not what I imagine it tastes like. And the worst part is I can't even give you an example of what I think it could taste like. I just don't think that it's butterscotch. I think that I imagine. Something along the lines of cream soda.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Less butterscotchy.

SPEAKER_01

Um yeah, that makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but with the butter, I mean, butterscotch makes sense, and I get where they're coming from, but I just maybe it's just because I don't like butterscotch. And I'm just like, nah, that's not what I want it to taste like. Yeah. But anyway, there's a bunch of other things. First of all, talk about a feast. I mean, they always had a spread. Um, and then also there's the chocolate frogs, but there's a ton of things that are kind of famous in the Harry Potter world of things that they eat and drink. But um, but Butterbeer, I think, is the most famous.

SPEAKER_01

I actually have a uh a shout-out on that one. Um, Mary Ann from Delaware. Um, when I asked her this question, she said all the food at Hogwarts. She just across the board, like she said every single thing, you know, she would love to be able to uh consume. Yeah. So, but yeah, I mean, coming from a non-Harry Potter reader or watcher, but seeing scenes with all this food, I concur. Like, I definitely agree. Yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so I just have two more things on my list, even though there's like so many that we probably haven't thought of, and I'd love to hear everyone's contribution of famous foods that they can think of. So in Stranger Things, 11 has like an addiction to ego waffles. Um, that's like a thing. Uh, not super cinematic or anything, but it was definitely falling into the category of foods in shows and TV. And then the last thing I want to mention is for all of the It's Always Sunny and Philadelphia fans, when Frank and Charlie invent rum ham, and it's basically just a big ham that they inject with rum.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

So when you eat it, you basically get drunk uh off of rum. And it's uh, you know, it's just one of those things that like everyone knows about it if you're a fan of the show. Um, an honorable mention of foods in that show is milksteak and jelly beans, um, which I'm not gonna elaborate on. If you're a fan of the show, then you know what I'm talking about. If you know you know, if you know you know. Um and then that's it. I have like a bonus thing, which is not I'm not even gonna I'll bring it up after you're done because it's not a specific food.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I just want to actually piggyback on what you were saying about the waffles thing, because I was just thinking when you said that, I love how in pop culture, when something becomes such a phenomenon that the brand ends up using that in branding. Right. And I just love how Ego probably, you know, jumped on board with the whole, you know, promos and everything. And I just I just love how it it it boosts, you know, sales or what have you. I I will say in a reference to that, the film Sideways. And yes, I've brought that film up many times to you, but I bring it up for a reason. This is so good. But and that's again one of those films that they put a stamp of respect on, and I absolutely and I'm not a wine connoisseur by any means, yeah, but that movie makes you respect it, and that's what I love about it. But for sure this this is this is to say that there is a scene where he um Paul Giamatti's character, Miles, he is really like tense about this date he's about to go on, and it's like a double date thing, and he's really super anxious. And Thomas Hayden Church's character, Jack, says something about having Merlot, and and he's like, I'm not having any effing Merlot, and he's so aggressive about it because he, as a wine connoisseur, is like F. Merlot, like he cannot take it, right? Garbage wine. I guess it's basically Dollar Tree version of wines as far as he's concerned. So beyond that film, it's absolutely true that sales of Merlot tanked. Oh dang. Yeah, it was just so effective in a very negative way. And he's into Pinot Noir, and sales of that went up. So it's just so funny how easily manipulated. I know it's wild, it is wild, it is so and on the surface, they would never admit it, but they're very much swayed by things like that. Yeah, and but that's what I mean about how things are so very much influenced when you see it in a film, and then you know, it's it's uh across the globe, you know. Yeah. So I just wanted to say that about the the waffle bit.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, I definitely agree. And it's kind of along the same lines of E.T. with the Reese's pieces.

SPEAKER_01

There's no way sales didn't increase after that movie versus even such early on in Reese's you know history because back then it was literally just peanut butter cups and Reese's pieces. Now, I don't know if you've seen at the convenience store all the choices you have there. Oh, I know. It's amazing. Yeah, it is too much.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, people will watch a movie and TV show and definitely be influenced, whether they realize it or admit to it or not. It's yeah, it's it's definitely crazy.

SPEAKER_01

I have a few burger scenes that I'm not gonna go into, but I think they are very um honorable mentions, I guess. Okay. Um the falling down scene with um Michael Douglas when he's at Burger Joint, huh? I said Oh, the name of the movie is Falling Down. I'm so sorry. It's okay.

SPEAKER_00

I thought you meant the scene where he's falling down. I know, I know. Because I have not heard of this movie, but go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

Oh gosh, you definitely okay. If you like films where the main character is angry all the time because you it resonates, you would like this film, honestly.

SPEAKER_00

And I like Michael Keaton.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, no, Michael Douglas. Oh, Michael Douglas, yeah, but you also like him, you've mentioned too. So yeah, he's alright. Um so he's um he's rocks a crew cut in the film. Okay, but he um anyway, the scene I'm talking about, I don't have to go into the film, but um definitely one of those that I would say definitely see it. He is going to a fast food place and he wants breakfast, and it is plenty early in time, but they decided I guess they're not gonna sell breakfast anymore, you know that whole thing. And he loses it, and he wants his breakfast. It's like McDonald's, but it's a different place, it's something possibly made up for the film. I can't remember. But yeah, so that's a great scene. All right, so the other film I was gonna mention is the scene in the terminal. Have you seen that with Tom Hanks? I have, but I don't remember it.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I get I remember the the gist, but I don't remember a specific scene where he eats food.

SPEAKER_01

So I just thought it was I just thought it was really clever the way he realized that when you turn in your Oh thing. Yeah, like the change. Yeah. I just thought that was so cool because he collected his change and he got his little burger. And then you see, like in the montage, he takes a whole bunch of carts and gets all the change. And he gets himself a full meal. I think it was like a quarter pounder. Yeah. And I was like, you do it, Tom. Like I just thought that was so clever. I love when people realize things and then they take it to the max. So now I just have a few that are kind of sci-fi related, and one of them is part of a shout-out. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Oh gosh.

SPEAKER_01

I thought of one. You're your guest.

SPEAKER_00

I know.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, okay. So this one is not a shout-out. This is the one I thought of. And I love the scene in Fifth Element, and she takes uh a little drip of something in like it looks like a little bottle or a little vial or something, and she puts it in a bowl and then she puts it in that microwave thingy, and then she's like, chicken, good, and then she zaps it and takes out this huge, like dressed up chicken, yeah, and it just looks amazing and juicy, and I just want to tear it up.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, well, that 100% segue and segues way into why I gasped because of the pizza hydrator.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, in Back to the Future part two, because that thing is so cool. So they for those who haven't seen it, and if you haven't seen it, please you gotta watch it. Um, in Back to the Future part two, um the mom puts this little tiny pizza into this hydrator, and then after like literally five seconds, it turns into a huge pizza.

SPEAKER_01

And and it's split, like it's two different, isn't it? Two different toppings on each side, half and hopefully, yeah, probably.

SPEAKER_00

But like, why doesn't that technology exist yet? I know what are we doing, guys?

SPEAKER_01

I know exactly. And while we're on the subject of I guess rehydrating food, um, I do have a shout out to rehydrator.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, go ahead. Yeah, yeah. Trying to remember what the machine is called.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it maybe it probably for each one of these films, it probably has like its own, you know, cute name.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But um, one notable one is from John the Baptist, 1998. Um, hi John. And the he mentioned spy kids when they put in the little McDonald's disc. Okay. Oh put in the little thingy, and it's finished, and it's like a full, you know, what is it called? Value meal.

SPEAKER_00

Ah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's really cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It is pretty cool. And I and she had a bunch of them. And I was like, I was like, man, what would the other ones be? Let's see what they would be. Did you have any others? I have some shout-outs for when we uh finish up, but I have, I think I've I haven't talked about everything, but I can talk about everything. There's so much.

SPEAKER_00

I the only other bonus thing that I wrote down is Brad Pitt in Oceans 11. Oh, yeah. He does not, there's not a specific food I want to point out, but he eats so much in that movie. The entire trilogy. Yeah. And it all it all looks so good. I don't even know what he's eating, but he just looks so content and satisfied. Um, but that was just a little food-related related thing that I wanted to mention, and that's it.

SPEAKER_01

And I'll also say that there's a supercut out there um of him eating a bunch of food. But the crazy thing is, it's not it is a lot in the oceans trilogy, but there are so many films when he's just standing around eating food. Yeah, he eats a lot in his super cookies.

SPEAKER_00

It's hilarious. Yes. Yeah. So it's funny. It's like as in it's in his contract or something. Exactly. Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Um, it's pretty bad when you're known for something like that. Or when you're known for something silly. It's like, how did I get here? Yeah. Um, so uh the only shout-outs I have are um I have Cole. His mention was, and oh my gosh, I do need to look at this series. Um, the Ghibli series, um, one of the films is Ponyo. You know what I'm talking about? Or are you going into something else?

SPEAKER_00

No, I was gonna say I've I've only seen Spirited Away, um which was really, really good. But I I do intend at some point to see the rest. But I have heard a few years. Yeah, same here.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I really I'm like at the point where like, okay, okay, you twisted my arm. I will see the series.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But because it's where it's very well done, I've I've been told. But yeah, um, in Ponyo, there's a a ramen scene, and it is so endearing, so adorable. Um, and it's just one of those where again it makes you appreciate the culture, and I love that whole the innocence of the two. I guess they're brother and sister, and they're sitting there eating it, and it's just whoever voiced that little girl, she did amazing. Like it was such an adorable character. Yeah, uh, Panyo is the particular character, but um, very, very cute scene. So thank you, Cole, for that. Um, one that um I have one from Natalie, and hi Natalie. She would be so mad if I didn't say hello to her directly. So um she said, and this is one of those that I never heard of, and I had to look it up. I heard of them the film, but I never uh saw the scene. And the film is Chronicles of Narnia. I think you've seen that, right?

SPEAKER_00

I have, I just don't remember it much, but yes.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

It's pretty good.

SPEAKER_01

It was a scene where okay, yeah, it looks good. And it's a scene where um the kid wanted her to create, you know, she was creating things out of the blue with her little, you know, waving of her arm, and she made the tr a Turkish delight. And it really looked good.

SPEAKER_00

That did pop up when I was researching, and I was like, I don't remember this enough to even mention it. But yeah, that's a great, great uh suggestion thrown out by Copley.

SPEAKER_01

It was, it looked really good. Um I have Rob from Chicago. Um, he said, and again, another film I've never seen, but the scene itself made me want to see it. And it was the Impossible Egg Sandwich from Spanglish. Oh, and that's with um Adam Sandler, one of the few Adam Sandler movies I haven't seen, but it looked pretty good. And the sandwich, oh my gosh, the sandwich, the sandwich reminded me of mom because you know how mom always liked her eggs runny.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And this sandwich, the egg was runny, but I'm gonna tell you, I was uh was willing to completely ignore that because it made this sandwich look so, so, so good. So that was a great suggestion. And then a few more I have is um Rich, Turner Fan77, which we've we've shouted to him before. Um, he said the dinner scene in Twister, and that's another one where it's just a full spread and everything looks amazing. That is a great one. Where do you begin? Yeah, that is. Um, and I have one more, and honestly, I thought this was one of my favorite um suggestions for this question, and it's one that I am very, very familiar with, and I absolutely love this scene. And it's the popcorn prank scene from Real Genius, that's from Nehemiah from I think Michigan. I'm so sorry if I have that wrong. But he um he suggested this, and I thought to myself, oh my gosh, that's such a great addition. And have you seen it?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Real Genius? No, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Obviously it is with Al Kilmer?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, they haven't.

SPEAKER_01

So they had this wild idea to get back at someone. Um, I'm not gonna say the plot, but it is technically the end of the film, but I'm allowed to do this because it's a 80s film. But he pranks this guy, um, and he puts a giant jiffy pop type uh setup in the middle of his house and rigged it to where the sun would be magnified into the window. Oh, nice. Yeah, and the house literally dismantled because of all the popcorn coming out of the windows and it it was amazing. That's really funny. And it was such it is funny, and and if you're watching it, it's like you can't help but to drop your jaw because of how epic it ended up and how excited they were as these students that were done dirty, and it was great, it was so perfect. So thank you, Nehemiah. That's an excellent suggestion. I loved it, yeah. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. Well, um, those were all really great. So thank you, Pam, for that side project that you did not notify me about. And sorry, and getting suggestions from our fans. So that's that was really cool. It was a good idea. Um, and they all had really great ideas. So thank you to everyone.

SPEAKER_01

Um and I would like to honestly do that more. Like I would love to include our listeners because you know, if it wasn't for them, we would literally just be like talking on the phone with each other right now. Right. So I I love that they felt that they can contribute to this. And I would I honestly we will do this more. And yeah, you know, and then you know, you you can get your people on it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so I think it's time for QA sesh.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I'm hungry.

SPEAKER_00

I'm so hungry, Pam. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna have to make this quick so I can go eat.

SPEAKER_00

Do you want to tell everyone um what the Q is and who from?

SPEAKER_01

Yes. So the question is from Rob in Chicago, Illinois, the aforementioned Rob. Hi, Rob. And his question is um, it's a food-related question. He asked, What is a food that we grew up eating all the time? A food that we always asked for, or that our parents always made us that we loved. And that we have never spoken about on here. I know. I can definitely think of some for you that I'm I don't know if you'll bring up, but I'll jump in there. But yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Um, so I will start if that's okay.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I will also point out that mom and dad divorced when I was four. So I have two categories of foods. Mom was an amazing cook, and dad was not. So I grew up with very different types of foods from both parents, and I have foods from both. Okay. So I'm gonna start with dad. Okay. He always made craft macaroni and cheese with hot dogs or kialbasa. Um macaroni and cheese and hot dogs is amazing, but macaroni and cheese and and kialbasa is like next level, like, oh my god, it's so good. Um and I still make it to this day. And I didn't even care that he didn't know how to cook. It was just the best thing I ever ate. And it was easy, too. It was super easy, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then another thing that he made pretty often was shepherd's pie. And I love his shepherd's pie. It was very simple. It wasn't the traditional shepherd's pie, which I think has a lot more stuff in it that I don't like. He made it with ground beef, mashed potatoes, corn, and cheese. And it was, oh my gosh, I could eat that thing every meal, every day. It was just so good. Yeah. And those are the main things that I remember eating with dad. I mean, he took me to McDonald's. I think I mentioned this in a previous episode. I had gymnastics every Sunday, and then he would take me to McDonald's right afterwards. So that's like a a core food memory that I have with him. He would grill every once in a while when we would have holidays and stuff over there. But definitely, like those two things were things that I remember having pretty often at his house.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you kind of stole one of my answers, but that's okay, because it was a fan. Family thing. And one of my favorite meals was definitely dad's shepherd's pie. And this goes back to even when they were married. So, you know, that's that's you know, was always kind of a staple. Yeah, definitely. Especially when you make it with like real potatoes. I know some people probably cheat and do the instant, but I just feel like it just it has to be real. And speaking of uh potatoes, I would say one thing that I loved that mom made was scalloped potatoes. And she would always make them in the electric skillet. She made them from scratch? Yes. Oh. And they were so good. And I remember, like clockwork, every time I knew she was making them, I would always say the same thing. I'd go, don't forget to burn them. Oh.

SPEAKER_00

Because maybe I do remember then, because they were always a little crispy and delicious.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Oh, I told her if she if she doesn't like overcook them, they're just not anything to brag about. Yeah. I loved when she burnt them a little bit. They were perfect.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, now to this day, I've still have never made scalloped potatoes, but it's so, so much. She she would make it so much that I just begged her to always make them. But yeah, so that that definitely is one of those. But um what did you have to say about um what about when you went to mom's? Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So mom was an amazing cook. Um, she cooked everything from practically from scratch every single night. And it was always something different. And she she also made very um country style comfort foods.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yes, yes, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so a huge thing that I always requested was her meatloaf. She was an amazing meatloaf, and she would always make it with like mashed potatoes. Her mashed potatoes were so creamy. Oh my gosh, so much milk and butter in those mashed potatoes. And she used to make me whisk them. Do you remember that? I used I used to use the electro electric miser. What? Oh my gosh. She used to make me use the electric mixer with her mashed potatoes. And I was like, Mom, I hate this. And to this day, I still hate cooking, even though she tried so hard. Um anyway, I remember helping her with mashed potatoes. And then she would make like either corn or green beans or something like that. Anyway, the meatloaf was amazing. Another thing she made all the time was cheeseburgers. Um, she would add, she uh she would always add an egg um and Lipton's onion soup mix.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I never not think of mom when I buy that. Right.

SPEAKER_00

And it was such a distinct taste. I have never tasted a burger like hers in my life. Um, and it was uh it was so good. And then um the last thing that I have that I always requested with her was her spaghetti. Um she would make spaghetti with ground beef, and she always added sugar to the sauce.

SPEAKER_01

Can I just say I to this day make it mom's way? Sam. And I know really you do too?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I just noticed the difference. Like it's too saucy, too, too something.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I I think I read that the sugar helps eliminate some of the acid from the sauce. Yes. Um, which is a nice perk of also making it sweeter. Um so that's all I have for like mom made so many amazing foods that I it was too much to list, but those were the main ones that I remember that I can still taste if I think about it. I have a lot of of like specific food memories, but those are the ones that stand out the most with um with both parents.

SPEAKER_01

So well, some of those I absolutely like they resonate or I remember them well, but they were a little bit more tiered to you know, Kim days. Um, but I do remember a lot of that. Um my the rest of mine, I have like four that I wrote down that were addition to the scalloped potatoes and then the shepherd's pie. But one major core memory, and these aren't really long-winded answers, but this was pre-Kim days.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The best memories are, am I right? No, no, no. Not at all.

SPEAKER_00

I'm just kidding.

SPEAKER_01

But I I I it's funny because when you have someone that was born, you know, 10 years apart, right? So it's funny because I feel like it is like a double life. Because it was almost like a life, and then you got the sequel. It's very strange. There are so many memories before you, and then so many memories after, and it's it's weird because they are not at all like each other. Right, they're not blended whatsoever. No. So, okay, so when we were growing up, and this is when I was probably from the age of five, we used to go to a restaurant, which you may have heard me mention this, called Po folks. Yes, I do. You do remember, okay. And I very, very vividly remember we used to go there all the time, and because I was slash am a picky eater, I always got the peanut butter, peanut butter, and jelly. And the crazy thing was it was free to kids under, I think it was a certain age, like I don't know if it was six or eight.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I remember because I was so little that she pretty much asked for that peanut jelly as long as she possibly could, past the age limit. Yeah. And far be it for them to deny, you know, the allegations.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they're they can't ask her to prove it. So yeah, yeah, that's really funny.

SPEAKER_01

I had many a PB and J's from Poe folks. Thanks, Poe Folks. Shout out to Poe Folks.

SPEAKER_00

I think actually, so that reminds me of a memory with dad when we would go to Publix and get a free cookie from the baker because I said that I was under a certain age, which lasted way longer because we all had very young jeans. Yes. So um that's really funny.

SPEAKER_01

I know.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man, I love getting a free cookie.

SPEAKER_01

Maddox was actually disappointed when we moved here and we went into Food Lion and we asked him if they give out free cookies. And actually, it wasn't even that they said no, it was that it was post slightly post-COVID when we would ask these things, and they said they stopped doing it during COVID, so they just haven't started up again. So I don't know if they're still doing it, but you do have a Publix there, right?

SPEAKER_00

But you said it was a little too far. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

It's not too far, it's just not convenient, it's not a down the road kind of thing. I'd have to go about 15 minutes, but that's you know, it's just one of those things where Food Lion is my jam now. So but I do like them.

SPEAKER_00

On April Fool's Day, Publix posted on their account that they opened the first Publix in Anchorage, Alaska. Which I thought was so funny. Because they're a southeast chain, like of all the places to expand to, they're not gonna go to Alaska. Oh, okay, gotcha. Yeah, that's funny. All right. Again, all of my jokes have been well, it wasn't even a joke, but like it was a funny thing that you ruined.

SPEAKER_01

I know.

SPEAKER_00

So I know thanks.

SPEAKER_01

Um another, cut that, cut that. Yeah. Another very, very like core memory I have is not necessarily with mom or dad or anybody else. It was with meaning nobody else, meaning you or Michelle.

SPEAKER_02

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_01

It was with Mae. And for those of you guys that don't know, and I would have to probably say 99.9% of you don't. We called our grandma on my dad's side.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, Mae. And it was Ma like Grandma, and then the big E because of her first name. And it was just something that somebody started, and I guess it was her. That sounds like her thing. Yeah. Yeah. And um, it was very southern sounding, so it just kind of, you know, it worked. And she was very southern. And one of the things that I remember very, very clearly, and gosh, I miss it, is when I used to stay with her on some weekends, and these would even be the times when Michelle would not be with me. I would stay with her in the summer or on spring break or whatever. And I would always wake up to the smell of biscuits and gravy with a little bit of sausage mixed in. That smell is the absolute like it's so amazing. Yeah. And she made it like obviously she used her cast iron skillet and she made it the right way. And she was amazing she was a great cook. And um, so every every single time I stayed there, she without fail would make that in the morning, and she knew that the smell would get me out of bed. Because I was it's sometimes things don't change. I was a late sleeper, and um, she knew that if she made that, it would get me out of bed. And boy, I tell you, it worked.

SPEAKER_00

Well, speaking of Mai and foods, um, I don't remember her cooking for me ever. Um, I I'm sure she did. The only thing I remember is that her milk was always frozen. Wait, frozen? Yes, like it had ice in it.

SPEAKER_01

Really? Maybe her temperature was low in the fridge. Why was your fridge so funny? Um I don't know. That's hilarious. Yeah, I remember that.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know why I remember that. That's such a weird memory to have. Like, I'd rather remember a million other things than to remember Matty's milk had ice in it.

SPEAKER_01

I know. Do you remember the type of milk she used to get?

SPEAKER_00

Um, no.

SPEAKER_01

Well, it was branded A plus. But it was like an acidophilus-free milk. Oh. Or something. Weird. Yeah. But the but the if you ever opened up her fridge, she would never not have A plus milk in a carton in her fridge.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe that's why it froze. Like it was just a different type of milk. It was pasteurized differently, maybe.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And I remember she had, oh my gosh. Oh my gosh, if I had this, she had this gadget thing that was a plastic carton holder. And the carton would sit in this framework almost like it was made with a 3D printer, and it had a handle. So it would make it easy for her to pour it.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

Do you remember that? Oh, kind of. And it was green. It was like 70s. Like an olive green. Olive green. Yes. Yeah. And I loved that. And now to this day, I'm like, why is that not like a normal thing you would buy in the store? But okay, another memory that I have, and this goes all the way up to when she stayed with us before she ended up moving back to Ohio. And I loved mom's green beans. And I had to find out how she made them. So before she moved back to Ohio, and like I said, she was staying with us. I said, Can you please write down that recipe of how you make your green beans? Because her green beans were very peppery and bacon. There was bacon in the green beans. Yes. And so she wrote down the recipe. And now in hindsight, I wish I would have made her do more because that is like the last thing that she wrote for me before she passed away. And I loved, I like I look at that now and I'm like, gosh, why didn't I get more recipes out of her? Because she was so good about stuff like that. When it came to cooking, and we talked about this when she stayed with us, but she's very good at knowing precisely the right time to start something. Yeah. Yeah. Like she would start something and then she knew at like maybe 10 minutes later to start this. And then she knew to go back to this and do something to that and prepare this.

SPEAKER_00

Everything was the exact perfect temperature once it was all on the plate.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Yeah. But she was really, really good at that. And she was really good, which this is very strange for mom, and you'll know what I mean when I say this. She was really good about cleaning up along the way.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

Like cleaning as she as she as she would go. And I always really like admired that. It was very silly, but she but I noticed that about her. Like she would just like not create chaos in her kitchen when she was all done. And I don't know. I think that was what she picked up from her mom or her grandma. I think she told me probably her grandma. Yeah, I'm thinking that, but she definitely picked up some really good cooking habits. And this is a funny memory that involves Michelle. And it has to do with mom, but it involves Michelle. So I remember back in the day, now there's four years difference between our ages, and then there was a certain point where she had already kind of graduated. So she was always just staying up past maybe nine o'clock or whatever. And she didn't have to have a bedtime like I did. So there'd be some times when she would be up with her, and I hear them just chit-chatting between each other, and I hated that already, right? So jealous.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I remember so, so well. I loved getting up late with and mom making cookies. Like she was the best junk fooder.

SPEAKER_01

Like, oh my god. And she always got the same stuff. She always got the I feel like I can't remember maybe Pillsbury in the tube where you kind of, you know, you're not supposed to eat it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And she would, and that's among the few things that she wouldn't make from scratch. But I remember she would always make that whole tube and she'd make a huge, you know, batch or whatever. And I would hear them and I would smell the cookies, and I was so hilarious. That's so funny.

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. But also, that's super cute. Like, I wonder if Michelle has the same memory, like sharing sharing that moment with mom. Because that's really awesome.

SPEAKER_01

That was in the Jarmer house, too. So that was in the house where she, you know, had graduated and then eventually she moved out. So she was, you know, up there, you know, at that point. You know, she was what probably 18 and then I would be 14.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And gosh, I hated it. And I was so like, and I I felt so petty if I were to complain about it, but yeah, what are you gonna do?

SPEAKER_00

That's really funny.

SPEAKER_01

But so anyway, that's a fun little, fun little memory that, you know, obviously I haven't let go. Yeah, I think that's it. You it was funny because I was just gonna have the two answers. And then when you said shepherd's pie, I was like, oh crap. So I said, okay, well, I can't just say the scalloped potatoes. What else can I throw in? So I literally wrote down those four while you were talking because I I needed to have some you know, substance there. Yeah. Jinx. It wasn't jinx, but yeah. It was all on my end. Yeah. Um we need to start saying that on um oh, sorry, sorry, sorry, go ahead. It's actually just forget it. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_00

Just forget it. Um, well, thank you, Rob, for that question. That was a great question. Um, and definitely brought up some deep-rooted memories that I didn't realize I had.

SPEAKER_01

So which a lot of these QA's seem to do. Yeah, so crazy. Yeah. That's kind of the beauty of one of the, you know, beauties of this podcast is I love that with the listener interaction, it forces us to dive deeper into our memories and produce these amazing answers. And I just I absolutely love that. And I never expected this little segment to do that much. I mean, we honestly we could have a whole episode on just the QA, just the one QA. It's crazy. Yeah. So, but yes, thank you, Rob. That was a great question. I loved coming up with all of our answers and realizing that we remembered so much more food-related questions than I thought we would.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So, oh yeah, I'm done. I'm so hungry. This is a bad idea.

SPEAKER_00

All right, weirdos. That's it for this episode of Sisterical. Don't forget to hydrate and text us when you get home. Catch you next time for more shenanigans. Love you, Pam.

SPEAKER_01

Love you, Kim.

SPEAKER_00

Bye.

SPEAKER_02

Give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Do you understand?
