Pursuit of Freedom

Reconnecting With Yourself

Kaley Lemery Season 1 Episode 7

Key Takeaways

Recognize and draw awareness to disconnection.

·       Acknowledge that disconnection from yourself often starts as a defense mechanism. It doesn’t truly protect you and most often it pulls you further from the peace and freedom you’re searching for. Healing begins with recognizing this pattern and accepting it without judgment.

Reconnect through physical presence.

·       Staying physically connected to your body is a powerful way to remain present. Simple practices like placing your hand on your chest while breathing deeply, tapping your arms or legs, or using visualization techniques (like smelling your favorite dessert) can help ground you during moments of anxiety or stress.

Healing is a lifelong journey.

·       Healing doesn’t mean you’ll never face challenges again; it means you become better equipped to handle them. Re-connecting with yourself is an ongoing process that requires kindness, patience, and persistence. Give yourself grace as you grow.

Creating a safe space in your body.

·       Your body can hold onto unprocessed emotions and trauma, but it can also become a place of safety. Practices like deep breathing, massage, or chiropractic care can help create positive experiences in your body and retrain your mind to see it as a haven, rather than something to escape.

Build a support system.

·       Surround yourself with people who support your healing and freedom journey. Whether it’s a trusted mental health therapist, a massage therapist, or close friends who champion your growth, having a supportive team is vital to staying connected to yourself.

Embrace awareness and free choice.

·       Re-connecting with yourself starts with awareness. Becoming conscious of the patterns and triggers that make you want to disconnect from yourself or the world around you. Then choose to stay present, even when it’s hard, by exploring what you’re feeling, rather than avoiding it.

Tap into your inner child.

·       Revisit the version of yourself who was naturally curious, expressive, and connected to the world. By remembering what once brought joy, you can rediscover the parts of yourself you may have set aside.

Prioritize self-acceptance and love.

·       Freedom starts with embracing every part of yourself, even the parts you’ve tried to avoid. Self-love isn’t about perfection; it’s about accepting yourself as you are and moving forward with compassion.
