Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this episode, Cindy takes us through her journey to faith and the importance of teaching what you have learned to the next generation. Cindy shares how her and Roger grew together through life's trials, and how that led them to putting their faith in Jesus. For decades now, the Gibsons have been dedicated workers in the Lord's Kingdom, and our congregation has certainly benefitted from their dedication to the work.
Consider One Another is a podcast focused on each other. Thank you for tuning in to this podcast that is all about stirring up love and good works in one another. Good morning, everyone, and welcome back to the Consider One Another podcast. I'm sitting down with one of the most encouraging people that I know, Cindy Gibson. Cindy, thank you for being here today.
SPEAKER_00You are welcome.
SPEAKER_01Cindy almost called out sick this morning because she thought, I don't know if I want to do this. Thank you for doing this. People are gonna be so encouraged by what you have to say. To ease the nerves, we'll just launch right into it. I'm gonna read from Psalm 78. I'm curious, Cindy, do you have your ESV or your King James Bible with you today?
SPEAKER_00ESV.
SPEAKER_01ESV. She's trying to make the transition. How's that going?
SPEAKER_00Well, it's going okay.
SPEAKER_01It's going pretty good. Okay, good. I'm gonna read from my new King James and we'll compare notes. So I'll just read Psalm 78. I'll read verses 1 through 7, and then you'll just share anything that stands out to you. Sound good?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Psalm 78, a contemplation of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my law. Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old, which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength and his wonderful works that he has done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and he appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children, that the generation to come might know them, the children who would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children, that they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments. A quick pause here by New King James at the beginning says a contemplation of ASAF. I'm wondering right before verse one, does yours say contemplation or a maskile or something like that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it says masculine. Maskell, okay.
SPEAKER_01It's just meant to be contemplative or meditative insight. My research says there are 13 Psalms that are titled as masculines. This one is of ASAF. I'm keying in on a couple things here, but what stands out to you?
SPEAKER_00Well, in this scripture, when I read it over and over again, no, um it that you have to keep teaching. I mean, you can't just stop, and he's reminding them of everything from the past that was given to them, that they need to keep it going. Otherwise, it's like when the 400 years there was nothing because there was no teaching, there was no and that could happen today too. Yes. So if you don't keep going, and that's why they had to put it on their doorposts and stuff. So when they went out and back and forth, they would remember those things. And I think that's one thing I didn't do so much when I first became a Christian, and with the kids, keep reminding them of the things God has and what he does for us and what we need to do to please him.
SPEAKER_01Amen. That's what I'm honing in on as well. I like talking about titles throughout the podcast, and I think you already hit one, keep teaching. And I'm keying in on the mention of the next generations, uh verse six, verse seven, that they may set their hope in God and not forget his works.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Keep teaching to that next generation, whether it's a 400-year gap between testaments or it's 2026 on a Monday. Keep teaching.
SPEAKER_00Yes. And we do it differently.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00You know, not all of us can get out and do what you do.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00I mean, even up from the pulpit.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh. Teaching comes different ways.
SPEAKER_00It does.
SPEAKER_01There is explicit teaching that does happen, obviously. But that explicit teaching is gonna fall really short if it's not being lived out. But keep teaching, keep living it out. We'll circle back to this toward the end because I love asking you guys about your kids and grandkids and great-grandkids, and I think we've met most of them by this point. Uh, but we'll talk about that at the end as that's kind of fun. But for now, I want to open up with this question because we got to hear Roger's perspective on how you two met, how you became Christians, and that story. But really, what we want today, we want to hear your perspective. So, as long as short as you want to tell us, just take us through how you and Roger found Christ, how you found each other. We want to know Cindy's perspective.
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, when when I was growing up, there was never any mention of God in the family. Or I was never raised in a spiritual type family.
SPEAKER_01Wow, no mention at all.
SPEAKER_00No. Wow, okay, except for when, and I can't remember how old I was, but I'm gonna say like maybe third grade, fourth grade, my mom decided that she was gonna have us go to quote church, and so she went and would drop us off. So we would go to Bible class and stuff like that. And I really enjoyed the class, and there was one time where they had a competition on how many verses you could memorize.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I like that.
SPEAKER_00Not what they meant, but just to memorize them.
SPEAKER_01The words, okay.
SPEAKER_00And if you did, you got a picture, a framed picture of Jesus' face. So when it came down to the end, there was me and this other boy, and he memorized one more than me, and I was so devastated because I did not get that picture.
SPEAKER_01Right, you won the prize.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00So um the motive back then was not to really know him, and because you didn't have the teaching at home, then it just kind of dropped, and that was it.
SPEAKER_01It was knowing about him at best.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that was just that picture of Jesus. That's all that I saw. That's all that I remember of that whole experience. So then, as life went on, it just, I mean, he was not there ever. And Roger used to, when we got married, I always felt like we weren't gonna stay together. And became in the back of my mind, but when I make a vow and I do something, I whatever comes, no matter what it's like, I'm not giving up. And so my aunt made a conversation to us that she was into what do you call that with the Leo and Aquarius and all the kinds of like signs and stars. Anyway, she said, You're not gonna make it. She goes, You're a Leo and he's a Taurus, and a bull against a lion or a lion against a bull. Um, she goes, You you're not gonna make it. And so I I'm one that sometimes I'm determined that I'm going to do it.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00So anyway, when Roger and I met, then he would say stuff about, you know, going to church and stuff because they were raised Baptists. So our life became kind of really hard. In the very beginning, it was it was fun, it was passionate, it was love, you know, that beginning of a marriage and trying to know each other.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Then it got to be um kind of a struggle, and Roger wasn't really happy, and there was nothing I could do to help. And it came down to one point that we were going to separate.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_00And I said, I don't know if it was right before or after, but why don't you go back to church because you were happy there? You know, whenever he talked about that that part. So we decided that we were gonna go over across the street to the community church where we got married. So we were studying there for a while, and then one of his friends that he worked with said, You want to be involved in a Bible class? And I said, Oh, okay. Well, then he would start talking, and then he was just talking about all these weird things, and it just didn't make sense to me. You know, in your heart when you're looking at it's like that's not right. And then I was working at this place called Jayhawks, and one of the guys I worked with had asked, because we asked him to come to the Bible class I did. Yeah, and he said afterwards, he goes, if you want to really know what the scriptures I'm studying with this one guy, you need to come.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_00So we went over, and that's where we met Tiny and Marilyn Sapsowitz. We call him Tiny, but his name was Arnold. Okay, we're not gonna be able to do that. And he was not tiny, he was a huge man.
SPEAKER_01I love those nicknames.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Call him Tiny. Anyway, we went over there and started studying with him, and Roger, Roger caught on right away almost. And he was able to, I mean, he would ask questions, and Arnold would just turn his Bible around and have him read the scriptures. And even while it was turned around, Arnold could turn to the pages and read this one, read this one, and Roger caught on. Yeah, it was like I was a bystander. Okay, and so then as we were walking home, he said, Whatever that says, I'm gonna do. Right. And so then we started having uh studies with him, and all the studies was like you and I are talking, I was sitting over here, they were all focused on Roger. Okay, and because he really could take over the conversation, yeah.
SPEAKER_01They got on that he was catching on.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, and so I was just sitting back there, you know, it's all going in, but um it made it kind of I but if you would have known me back then, I did not talk at all.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Hardly. Like it's you now unless I yeah, unless I really know somebody, I I wouldn't even say because I felt I was too, I guess it's unlearned or ignorant that I wasn't smart enough to carry on a conversation with anybody. So you would just and still today I'm kind of like that. So anyway, then the more we studied, Arnold brought over our new Bibles and he just opened up and the verse about what does hinder you to be baptized?
SPEAKER_01There's the King James coming out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we just sat there and Roger said, I've got to go to the restroom. So he went to the restroom and I looked and I read in it and I'm going, I know I need to do that. So I just said, Well, I need to do that.
SPEAKER_02Yes. So when Roger, goodbye.
SPEAKER_00And the thing of it is when we knew that my my mind is, I'm thinking, I know I need to do that, but I'm thinking to make our life, our marriage better, maybe if I get baptized, he'll get baptized.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_00But I knew I needed to do it for myself.
SPEAKER_01Yes. But it's a fair thought to have, too. Yeah. If I'm taking steps in the right directions, yeah, maybe he will too.
SPEAKER_00And with all his talking, and I'm going to this and this and this. So actually then he came out and he said, Yep, I need to. And so it was 11 o'clock at night, and we went to one of the church buildings in Enum Claw, and that's where we were baptized.
SPEAKER_01Wow. Okay, same night.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And it didn't make things easier between us right away. But it was still through the years, it was trying to learn and to put what God wanted us to do.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00And studying with them, I have to say that it was hard for me to trust that God could be my father.
SPEAKER_02Sure.
SPEAKER_00And be the way he was, because living with my earthly father was not pleasant. It was hard for me to understand how I could trust him and how to love him. But the only way I knew when Arnold started teaching us was okay, I gotta do whatever that says, and I gotta do it. It was more of a work to make sure all these things lined up.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00Where do where's the love? How do how do I learn to love him if I'm just doing commandments? You know, and rules, like you go to school, there's rules, there's state laws. So that's that's what I had to do. Wow. You know, to be to be pleasing and for him to love me. That's what I had to do.
SPEAKER_01Do you think that the relationship you're talking about with your father kind of influenced that?
SPEAKER_00Yes, I do.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Because I never had one that would, he never seriously talked to me. And my mom had five kids, and trying to grow up in that family, she was always busy, and I was the oldest. So I just kind of helped. You know, and I took on some of those things that she needed me to help her with.
SPEAKER_01All the things that need to get done.
SPEAKER_00So it wasn't really a relationship where you really sat down and you were able to talk to your mom and dad about anything.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, when I grew up anyway, from that family. Anyway, all through our marriage life, I always, and back my mom and dad got divorced before Roger and I got married. Actually, we got married in June and their divorce was final in August.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Wow.
SPEAKER_00Then a year and a half later, about Roger's mom and dad divorced. And they were both from adultery on my dad's and his mom's side.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00So I was always waiting that he was gonna leave me.
SPEAKER_01That's what you'd seen.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that I wasn't I wasn't good enough, you know. But as I realized more and more what God had in here for me, it gave me a peace, and no matter what would come between us, that I had I had God and tried the best I can to make the relationship with Roger work. Yeah, because I wasn't gonna give up. Even uh being uh non-Christian when we got married, I made a vow, and that vow meant a lot to me.
SPEAKER_01So you're determined.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I and from my mom's and dad's and his, I thought, I can't, I can't do that. I can't put my kids through what I felt, you know, and stuff like that. So we just grew and in the older years, you you really grow closer together, but it's a different kind of closeness.
SPEAKER_01It's an amazing picture you paint, kind of bookending with this determination. You start with memorizing Bible verses as a kid, and you get dropped off at Sunday school. You said, I was determined, I'm gonna do that. And then you take that to a much bigger place. I was determined. I was gonna keep my vows. I was not gonna put my kids through what I felt. Uh so I just I have to thank you so much for being this vulnerable. Uh the podcast episodes kind of vary from episode to episode, but I want to make sure they're real. As we consider one another into love and good works, it's not helpful to just pretend that we've all just got it all together.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_01And as a young person, when I look at these older exemplary couples like Roger and Cindy, it's hard for me to wrap around my mind that you ever struggled. Because look at them, they're Roger and Cindy, and they're happy and they write cards and they shake my hand and they're just look at them, they've got it all together. So for you to share that struggle with younger couples or older couples who maybe thought they were the only ones who struggled, that is so important to considering one another. So thank you for being vulnerable with us, letting us know it's tough. And I hope you can hear kind of the struggle in her voice. She's painted such a good picture, it's like we're reliving it, and now look how far you've come. You were shy to even talk of the Bible study, and now we're studying the Bible together with a microphone in front of us. It's so helpful to hear the progress. And where I want to go is that that growth, all the way to you and Roger serving together, this congregation in so many ways. But before I made it here, uh you and Roger served, he was an elder here.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01And I am curious to know what was it like serving the congregation, which you guys still do in so many ways. But take us through that time period. What was it like serving in that capacity for you?
SPEAKER_00Well, as an elder's wife, too, that that's hard. And there's a lot of responsibility in helping others when you know when you can. But Roger was not an elder that would come home and lay it all out there, you know what this one did, or that one did, or blah blah blah, you know. But he always kept it to himself. But I could I could tell, right, you know, when something's bothering, and sometimes there was point he would say, Well, what do you think about this or that, you know, your comments, right? And I would give him what I would think, and you know, what God would think, and it's just for him to get a little bit more feedback, but I never knew the situation or who the people were or anything, but it bothered me that he was so troubled, you know, because he had a lot on his plate.
SPEAKER_01You could see that.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01Even if the details weren't being shared, you can see that.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. And it really, it really, you know, bothered him. He was, you know, to try and help or whatever. It was kind of when he first became an elder, he he was a young elder. And when we were worshiping in Gig Harbor.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It was like all of a sudden some people would start coming to me and stuff and telling me stuff, and I'm going, whoa. But if they did, I would answer the best I could and tell them, you know, if it's something I couldn't give them here, then in the scripture. Yes, then, you know, you need to go talk to them. I would never go and say anything to Roger or anybody that that person confided in me. That's one thing, you know, it was really with an elder's wife, you've got to support him a hundred percent. And also, you know, you can't go talking to somebody else about any of it.
SPEAKER_01No, it has to stay. Yes, yeah, confidential. I love that you're bringing out the the job that you had, and whether that was supporting him, not knowing details, or it was people coming to you and you being able to help them, is all in the role that you served. But there's so many more ways that you serve today, no longer in that same role. But when I look at the servants and hard workers of our congregation, you're certainly one of them. And many women are often looking for more ways that they can serve, but sometimes they are not sure exactly where to start. So I'm curious to hear again your perspective on this. What advice would you have for women looking for ways that they can serve in the church?
SPEAKER_00Well, you can like when I first became Christian, and when we got to a congregation where there was children, I I always taught. I always taught the younger kids, and it was more of the second grade, the fourth grade, and one time I even taught a teenage class.
SPEAKER_01Nice.
SPEAKER_00So you can do it in teaching like that, you can do it in having people. I loved having people over when we were younger, and we always did. I feel bad because I I haven't had as many people here because some people think it's too far to our house to come. So then I put it in my mind, well, they're not gonna come because look how far it is. And I keep going, no. If you invite them, uh they will come. You know, if they want to, they'll be there. So inviting uh people over, getting together, and it doesn't have to be a constant Bible class because you can bring the Bible into with your brothers and sisters anytime somebody will mention something, you know. So it's not a planned thing, but you can get together, share each other, give strength, draw strength from each other. Yes, and so I I need to be more diligent and do better at that. But and then there's helping wherever you can help, if it's cleaning the building, if it's taking one of the babies so the moms and dads can listen to the lesson, you know, which I would love to just go back and grab one of the kids, but yeah, some parents don't don't like that. So I need to talk to them and ask them, okay, if This happens, may I come back and just take them back for you so you can sit and relax. When I would when I was worshiping with Marilyn Sapsowitz, I you haven't met her yet, I don't believe. Oh my goodness, she's a firecracker. Anyway, she used to, if the kids were, you know, getting she'd just go back there and take that kid and go, you know, back there and take care of it. Yeah, exactly. But for the moms and dads, it it's really hard with babies and to try and pay attention for them to get something out of it.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00So doing something like that, and I mean Debbie McVicker is one, she'll just go and take the kids.
SPEAKER_01I was thinking of her, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. And I'm going, oh my goodness, what did that mom and dad think, you know?
SPEAKER_01Right, right.
SPEAKER_00So, but anyway, sorry, Debbie.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, Debbie. But you can do stuff like that. You can help in the building sometimes if there's something to do in getting classroom material. Yeah. There's all types of jobs you can Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I I like just being a helping hand.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_01Just be an extra set of hands, whether it's picking up a baby, picking up Bible class material, be a helping hand. I love that you brought out with the hospitality, the almost, I don't know, inferiority that you're feeling of, oh, they don't want to come all the way down to me, or they're probably busy anyway. That's it almost feels humble to say, but it's really not. And I know that stops many people from teaching or being hospitable or helping a baby. The people just think, oh, that's that's someone else. Like Debbie will do that. Not me. No, but it's good you bring that out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I do want to do that, but there again, I have to be the one to talk to them first and see if that's right. See what they in my mind.
SPEAKER_01So that's good too. Just proactively helping, ask. Ask, hey, where can I teach? Or hey, where would be a good time for me to host? A singing or a couple, or just asking, and typically, hopefully, an elder, a preacher, someone's gonna tell you, oh, do this, or parents are gonna say, Yes, please, whatever that looks like, go ask. Go find out.
SPEAKER_00Yep. And there's stuff like I do the cards, and and Liz does the cards also. So we share in the part of doing that. That's kind of fun to the cards are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I wanted to ask about that because those cards have really made a difference. I told you about the sunflower card that you sent to Carlos and how much that meant to him. Uh, when you write those cards to visitors, what kind of things do you usually try to say in the notes when you send those?
SPEAKER_00Well, just like um it was so uplifting to have you visit with us today, and hopefully, when you're in back in the area, you'll come back and worship with us again. Yeah, and we enjoyed meeting you. And then sometimes I'll put if it's somebody looking, you know, but they're not a member of the church, I'll just put in there if you have any questions, please call this number, and it's usually the one the building number to Dan or something like that.
SPEAKER_01Great, yeah, you know, some sort of contact information.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, please reach out in there, and then like when when I did Carlos's, it was like welcoming him as a brother, yeah, you know, and then going on. You know, if you have any other more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
SPEAKER_01And we're here for you, we're a family.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. So it depends on the situation. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Thanks for stopping by while you're on vacation, yeah. All the way to welcome to the kingdom. Yeah, it's it's all in that. And those maybe seemingly small jobs that people think maybe are are small, they're not, they're big, they have big impacts on people. A handwritten note is a lost art.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it is.
SPEAKER_01Keep writing those notes, it's gonna stand out and show we mean it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And when you hear the preacher say, like, we want to help you, and then on Tuesday you get a card that says, We want to help you, yeah, they're gonna believe it. So thank you for doing that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because I when I would go visit, not everybody sends cards, but when I would receive one, I'll go, oh, yeah, they really knew I was there, type thing. You know, and and then I would say sometimes about it's very nice to meet brothers and sisters in other areas, knowing that we know that there's so many more out there than just us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the whole kingdom.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_01And now we're connected. I got a phone number, a card, and the mail.
SPEAKER_00We know each other. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. So, speaking of people all over the country, you've been bringing around lots of different great grandchildren, and that's been so fun for us to see. Lincoln and see here, who else? Hudson and Harper. Yes. So much fun, and those are your great grandkids. Correct. Okay. Tell me just more about those great grandkids, and again, what we started with Psalm 78. How do you try to pass your faith on to that next next generation?
SPEAKER_00Well, like with Harper, she's much easier right now at the age she is, but I would get books and they were Christian-based books, and read to her all the time, and teach her to pray when we're eating and when we go to bed, you know, praying, and just showing her things outside that God made and as much as I can that way. And if I have a chance to, because I haven't when I've been there, but when I go to worship wherever, like in Indiana, to be able to take her now. Because her mom would say, Oh, I don't think she'll sit. And I said, Honey, just let me try. You know, and then I feel like if encouraging them, hopefully, because like her mom and dad, Hudson and Harper. Harper's mom and dad, Jocelyn, our granddaughter, she knows because they were members of the church at her mom and dad were members of the church at one time. So she knows some.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00You know, but then they go off, and if they ever come to me with problems or they want to talk, I go here. And I tell them, you know, God is the God is the answer. He'll help you through anything as long as you're willing to listen to him and do as he wants you to. And so they have taught sometimes. We want to go to church.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And so I would encourage them, well then, you know, this one I went to, they've got families, you know, it's right there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know?
SPEAKER_01Right. And um and Harper came with me, she sat still, she didn't do it.
SPEAKER_00Then she remembered Juliana, but she didn't remember name that lady grandma GG in in that class, and and May. I remember. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And she would she made a friend.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So those little minds can they just soap soak everything up.
SPEAKER_01Yes. And then they pass it on too. Yeah. Before I ever started uh paid preaching, me and Juliana taught just a very little kid's class. And we would have grandparents who brought their grandkids to kind of skip the generation. And as Bible class teachers, we'd be sure to give them materials and say, Exactly, go have mom and dad read this to you. And guess what? Mom and Dad started showing up. Yeah. So there's trickle-down evangelism and kind of push its way up evangelism. It's both ways.
SPEAKER_00Pictures that Juliana, the lesson that she did, they took home and mommy put them on the refrigerator.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00You know, and then teaching her songs, and she loved the little light of mine. We had singing that over and over and over again. And then Hudson started going like this, you know. So, and then Lincoln, such a blessed little soul. All of them are, but yeah, the same thing, just reading or singing songs to him right now. And his mom and dad, they're they're actually moving to Kansas City, Missouri.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00And they have to leave at the end of the month. I'm going to be flying him by myself back to them because it'd be too hard for him in the car.
SPEAKER_02On the road.
SPEAKER_00But Macy has commented, she's asked questions and she's gone to services with us and stuff, and she's asked questions along the way. Okay. And even at one point about baptism. But then she has another grandmother that in these big life center mega churches. And so she's kind of, well, do I really have to do that? Do I, you know, do I? Do not? And same thing. If she had a problem, she'd call me and I'd I'd go here. This is the best answer. I can give you. I can give you what I think, and I can give you my knowledge as growing up, but until you really look, he's the biggest help you'll ever get, more than I can ever do for you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00Now they want to find, she's been talking about finding a congregation. So I asked Dan the other day if he could find me some congregations in Kansas City, Missouri.
SPEAKER_01There's plenty of them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and just where they're going to live, that till I can pinpoint that part because I'm not sure what part of the city or suburb they're going to be living in.
SPEAKER_01Alright, okay. My good friend, Eddie Isaac Torres, shout out E.T. He preaches at the Vivian Road Church of Christ.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01And a lot of my good friends go there. That's right there in Kansas City, Missouri. She's writing it down. Yeah. But we mentioned this before. The kingdom is not just in Bremerton or the PW, it's all over. The Vivian Road Church of Christ is a good place. We'll get in contact with Isaac. He would love to meet them. And I know they've got young people and lots of good folks there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it's a good thing.
SPEAKER_00See, that would be wonderful. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Alright, we'll make it happen.
SPEAKER_00You know, I keep encouraging both of them that, you know, to find the peace.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And this is the only place that I have found that I can find the peace.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I wish we could leave it right there. That was so good. Find the peace. Another possible title. I gotta write that one down. But the first one we had was Keep Teaching. That's been a theme throughout. I said, how can women serve in the congregation? Say, go teach. And then now you're talking about Harper remembering what she was taught in Baamel class on a Wednesday night. And now she's gonna go tell her mom about that. Keep teaching in whatever capacity that is, live it out, share a prayer before bedtime with the great grandkids, whatever you can do, keep teaching, and that'll help you find the peace. Ah, there it is.
SPEAKER_00There was this one book I used to read. We'd always read a book before Harper went to sleep. And at my house, it was When I Talk to God, I talk about you. And it goes through and she said, No, Gigi, I will read it. So then she would go every page and she could tell you exactly what was on each page. She can't couldn't read, you know.
SPEAKER_01But she remembered.
SPEAKER_00But she could remember, and she could remember the words.
SPEAKER_01And speaking of reading, I know you've got a favorite verse for us, and then she's got a top five of her favorite hymns. We'll go through all of them. But close us out here. Start with your favorite verse. What do you got for us?
SPEAKER_00Matthew 6, 33, and 34.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And I've always liked liked that verse too because no matter what I went through, or we didn't have or what was coming, you know, or funds.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00I knew that God would take care of us, and it always happened. That he would. Now, I I want a new car and I want a new house and maybe some furs or which I would never do. But fancy things, yeah. That that's not what he's talking about in the scriptures that above that part. You know, God takes care of all them. Like we've been watching them outside, and Roger goes, just look at them. They're digging up all those worms, and you know, they have this instinct. And I said, Yeah, God gave them all that instinct where to find those, find their food and where they sleep. Yeah. And so if he does all that, like it says, how about you?
SPEAKER_01You're right.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And you are. As long as you're seeking for God, he is gonna help you through anything that you have in your life.
SPEAKER_01Go ahead and read it for us. Matthew 6, 33 and 34.
SPEAKER_00But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. And that one fits me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, me too.
SPEAKER_00Because that human part, it's it's so hard to get rid of that human part of like Abraham and Sarah. Yeah. Sarah said, Well, I think this is what God wants, so let's do it this way.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I'm not, this is telling me I'm not relying on God to take care of these things.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00So I gotta stop and think. Oh, and Roger's always going, stop it, stop worrying about this, stop thinking about this. I said, I can't, I'm trying.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00But no, and so this that verse hits me all the time.
SPEAKER_01Yes. That's one that we've got hung up in our home.
SPEAKER_00That's a good one. I need to put the plaque of that one up in my home too.
SPEAKER_01As a reminder, yeah. Am I relying on God as good as the birds are?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I say I am, so why not do it?
SPEAKER_01It's hard to do it.
SPEAKER_00It's very hard. That human aspect. Sometimes I look out and go, God, why did you give us that human part? Why couldn't we just be and then Adam and Eve, why did you do that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know. Right.
SPEAKER_01Why couldn't we just live in paradise? Yes. No worry, no human error. But he reminds us.
SPEAKER_00And he will give yeah, and he will give you all the basic things that you absolutely need in this life to survive and to whatever you need as long as you're looking and you're staying with him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, seek him. And you will find. Okay, take us through the top five, top four. I see a lot of hymns written down, but I want to hear them all. What are they?
SPEAKER_00Okay, I am a poor warefaring stranger.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Take my hand, precious Lord. I need thee every hour in the garden, and that's when I come to the garden alone.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_00I was singing that song while I was delivering mail, and I had to walk through the side of the house, and the birds were just chirping and stuff, and then I was singing, and as soon as I stopped and went through there, they hushed their singing. So that song always stuck because of those birds just stopped singing. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Me and Roger were talking about this one, but we couldn't remember the name of the song. Yes. I come to the garden alone. In the garden.
SPEAKER_00I know whom I have believed.
SPEAKER_01Nice.
SPEAKER_00And those are part of my favorite songs.
SPEAKER_01Yes, there's a common theme weave through those, especially the first ones you're mentioning of take my hand, precious Lord, I need thee every hour. It makes sense. Following Matthew 6, 34, into these types of songs. It's beautiful. We can read about it and then sing about it.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_01Remind ourselves, remind our brothers and sisters. We won't make you sing them today, but maybe we'll get them in the rotation soon.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Cindy, thank you so much for your time today. This was so encouraging to me, and I know it will be for everyone else too.
SPEAKER_00Can I say one more thing?
SPEAKER_01You may say one more thing.
SPEAKER_00I brought up that Romans 10.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_00Well, only because I wanted to make the point that if you're out there and you're praying for some, like I prayed for my mom for years. It took 20 years for her to become a Christian. Wow. And that scripture was one of them that she read, and though I have a zeal for God, they know not. Is that the right one?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's 10 2.
SPEAKER_00And she was always brought up a different way, but knowing that this is the right place to be, because just because they have a knowledge doesn't mean that it's the right place.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00And so 20 years she read that verse after she'd been studying, and Roger and I would have classes with her, but we kept praying. I keep praying for my kids. I keep praying for my grandkids. That's all you can do and to encourage, but there'll be a point, I feel that like my mom, they'll have to make a decision one way or the other. But my hope in prayer is there's always hope until that physical body is gone.
SPEAKER_01Amen.
SPEAKER_00So don't ever think that your prayers are not working. Because 20 years, that's nothing to God. Yeah, that's but to us, it's like a lifetime.
SPEAKER_01Right, or it feels like a lost command. No, it's not. It's not. Right? Let me just read it for us. Uh Romans 10, verse 1. Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. I love that. My heart's desire. Verse 2. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. So 20 years. Yeah. 20 years. What a story. Don't give up. Keep that heart's desire. Remember your heart's desire.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01Seek first spiritual things. Don't worry. God's got it. Cindy, thank you so much for your own.
SPEAKER_00You're welcome. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01The Bible tells us to consider one another in order to stir up love and good works in each other. So thank you for stirring up love and good works in me just by listening to this episode.
SPEAKER_00Kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_01Hold on, I'm gonna close this door.
