Before we met on Earth, The Promise. There is a place where time has never existed. The elders simply call it the place between stars. It is here that every soul awakens before its journey to Earth, not with fear, but with wonder. Imagine standing on the edge of forever, watching countless worlds spin quietly beneath you, each one filled with laughter, heartbreak, hope, and lessons waiting to be lived. Among these souls stood one unlike the others, young, curious, and strangely quiet. The guides noticed. You've been watching Earth for a long time, one of them said gently. The soul smiled. I think I'm ready. The guides nodded, but did not answer. Instead, he opened an ancient book where pages shimmered with living light. This is not your first journey. The soul looked down. Every page held a different lifetime. A farmer, a sailor, a healer, a child who only lived a few years. A woman who loved deeply and lost everything. Each life have left behind something precious. Not possessions, not titles, but wisdom, compassion, courage. The soul whispered, I remember just enough to miss something that I can't name. The guide smiled knowingly. You're remembering love. They would grow up hundreds of miles apart. They would laugh with different families, dream different dreams, carry different wounds. Neither would remember this place. Neither would remember this connection. Or so they believed. Just before the light carried them away, the guide spoke one final sentence, not as a warning, but as a promise. When the time is right, your paths will cross. Not because fate demands it, but because love always remembers what the mind forgets. The light grew brighter and brighter still until both souls disappeared into the world below. The guide remained alone. He looked down at the ancient book and quietly whispered, I hope they're ready. Because what neither soul knew was that this lifetime would ask them to make the hardest choice they've ever had to face. And one of them would have to walk away.
