when they lived and they were walking through the desert versus when they came to the promised land. 00:01:05.055 --> 00:01:11.325 And in the desert, god provided everything right, god provided all of it. 00:01:11.325 --> 00:01:13.066 Shoes didn't wear out, none of that. 00:01:13.066 --> 00:01:17.540 But then they get into the promised land and guess what happens when they get into the promised Israelites was really developing their faith so that they would get out of this baby Christian phase and into a mature. 00:01:35.992 --> 00:01:47.686 God wants sons and daughters, not baby Christians, and that is the difference between the desert living and the promised land is that God is maturing our faith. 00:01:47.686 --> 00:02:02.566 He doesn't just want consumers, he wants contributors, right, and so tonight we're going to look into a little bit, somewhat of a follow-up from last week's message. 00:02:02.566 --> 00:02:03.844 But tonight I want to give you this. 00:02:03.844 --> the promised land was. 00:02:31.413 --> 00:02:36.304 Okay, so the promised land was more than just a piece of territory. 00:02:36.304 --> 00:02:45.051 The promised land was more than just an area that they were meant to conquer, that they were meant to take over. 00:02:45.051 --> 00:02:48.604 It was symbolic of so much more than that. 00:02:48.604 --> 00:02:51.520 How many of y'all realize that the promised land was symbolic of some things? 00:02:51.520 --> 00:02:56.152 Okay, the promised land was symbolic of new beginnings. 00:02:56.152 --> 00:02:59.822 Right, it was a brand new start for the Israelites. 00:02:59.822 --> 00:03:03.288 They weren't in the desert anymore, they weren't walking in circles. 00:03:03.288 --> 00:03:08.561 It was a brand new start, right, not only was it a new beginnings, it was also. 00:03:08.561 --> 00:03:13.691 It symbolizes the fulfillment of God's promises for his people, right. 00:03:13.691 --> 00:03:21.431 So it was new beginnings, it was the fulfillment of promises, and then also, it was a place of rest and inheritance. 00:03:21.431 --> 00:03:26.348 It was a place of rest and it was a place of inheritance. 00:03:26.348 --> 00:03:41.576 Okay, now here's why I tell you all that Because if we don't know what those things are and what they symbolized, we'll miss why the Israelites needed to make these five shifts when they went into the promised land. 00:03:42.598 --> 00:03:46.444 Okay, so we talked last week, desert living versus promised land living. 00:03:46.444 --> 00:03:49.980 Now we're going to look at, as they're entering into the promised land. 00:03:49.980 --> 00:03:53.473 Here's five major shifts that they needed to make. 00:03:53.473 --> 00:03:55.419 Number one I'm going to jump right into it. 00:03:55.419 --> 00:03:57.600 Number one was the mentality shift. 00:03:57.600 --> 00:04:10.284 Everybody say the mentality shift from survival, from survival mode, to taking territory, from survival mode to taking territory. 00:04:10.284 --> 00:04:12.545 Now I want to read you Deuteronomy, chapter 1. 00:04:12.586 --> 00:04:23.709 Deuteronomy there's a few verses in Deuteronomy 1 where it lays out God's plan for the Israelites to take the land. 00:04:23.709 --> 00:04:33.773 And I want to read you this because this is a huge shift in the perspective of the Israelite people, how many know, even for us. 00:04:33.773 --> 00:04:35.254 All of these apply to our life. 00:04:35.254 --> 00:04:43.456 As we're stepping into the new thing, as we're crossing over, there's a mentality shift that God has to do in our life. 00:04:43.456 --> 00:04:55.680 There's some rewiring God has to do in our hearts and in our minds, and this is the same thing that he was having to do for the Israelites here in Deuteronomy, chapter 1, I want you to see this. 00:04:55.680 --> 00:04:59.370 And he says see, I have given you this land. 00:04:59.370 --> 00:05:04.271 Go in and take possession. 00:05:04.339 --> 00:05:07.666 Everybody say take possession of the land. 00:05:07.666 --> 00:05:12.000 Okay, go in and take possession. 00:05:12.000 --> 00:05:16.411 I don't know about you, but that's not passive language, that's aggressive language. 00:05:16.411 --> 00:05:17.762 That's not. 00:05:17.762 --> 00:05:20.274 I'm stepping back and taking whatever comes at me. 00:05:20.274 --> 00:05:21.379 That means I'm going. 00:05:21.379 --> 00:05:24.052 God's telling me to go and take the land right. 00:05:24.052 --> 00:05:33.204 So go in, take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers, abraham, isaac and Jacob, to their descendants after them. 00:05:33.204 --> 00:05:41.826 So God tells them it's not about survival anymore, it's about you going and taking what God has promised you. 00:05:42.867 --> 00:05:46.795 So in the wilderness, the Israelites, they just simply survived. 00:05:46.795 --> 00:05:49.642 It was just day-to-day living. 00:05:49.642 --> 00:05:51.266 It was. 00:05:51.266 --> 00:05:55.254 They just wanted to get through that day. 00:05:55.254 --> 00:05:57.184 That was their life. 00:05:57.184 --> 00:05:59.129 They got through Tuesday. 00:05:59.129 --> 00:06:00.814 They woke up Guess what? 00:06:00.814 --> 00:06:02.220 They got through Wednesday. 00:06:02.220 --> 00:06:09.690 They woke up on Wednesday, lived the day, and they just went day to day in survival mode. 00:06:11.194 --> 00:06:19.523 But can I just remind us tonight where this applies to our life is that God has not created us, saved us and redeemed us to just simply live in survival mode. 00:06:19.523 --> 00:06:34.218 Right, he saved us, redeemed us, called us so that we could be a people like the Israelites that take back ground, right, that are pushing back darkness. 00:06:34.218 --> 00:06:37.379 And their mentality was really shaped by two things. 00:06:37.379 --> 00:06:44.124 It was shaped by the Israelites' mentality was kind of shaped by this scarcity mindset that we don't have enough. 00:06:44.124 --> 00:06:52.620 And then it was also they were just depending on the Lord to drop manna, to drop quail from the sky, right. 00:06:52.620 --> 00:06:58.675 So they had to go from survival mode to then taking territory, but that's in the wilderness. 00:06:58.675 --> 00:07:04.379 And then here's what happens in the promised land is they had to shift from survival to strategy. 00:07:05.069 --> 00:07:04.867 I know God has called us to be a strategic people. 00:07:04.867 --> 00:07:07.161 Revival to strategy. 00:07:07.161 --> 00:07:10.574 I know God has called us to be a strategic people Instead of just getting by. 00:07:10.574 --> 00:07:13.057 They were called to take possession of the land. 00:07:13.057 --> 00:07:17.805 They were called to build, they were called to establish their future in that land. 00:07:17.805 --> 00:07:30.012 Right, and I want you to see this, guys, is that the promised land? 00:07:30.012 --> 00:07:34.502 What they were called to step into and what we see them step into in the book of Joshua is really a picture of the life that God has for us. 00:07:34.502 --> 00:07:36.548 It is the more that God has for us. 00:07:36.548 --> 00:07:39.434 It is the crossing over, right. 00:07:39.434 --> 00:07:42.880 Maybe last year was the year that. 00:07:42.880 --> 00:07:48.019 If you could paint it in your mind, it was the year that you just kind of wandered in the desert, right. 00:07:48.019 --> 00:07:58.415 You just kind of were in somewhat survival mode, just making it from Monday to Tuesday to Wednesday just kind of floating around. 00:07:58.415 --> 00:08:03.408 But I believe that God's moving us as a people, as a church, in our mindsets, from survival to now. 00:08:03.408 --> 00:08:06.836 We're taking territory, amen, we're pushing back darkness. 00:08:06.836 --> 00:08:10.653 So the promised land is a picture of the life that God's called us to live. 00:08:11.216 --> 00:08:13.120 Okay, a couple thoughts on this. 00:08:13.120 --> 00:08:20.632 Number one is that God wanted to get the Israelites out of this survival mode, and he also wants to get us out of survival mode. 00:08:20.632 --> 00:08:28.185 But also, is that thriving in the promised land would take work by the Israelites? 00:08:28.185 --> 00:08:30.151 I don't know. 00:08:30.151 --> 00:08:35.763 Anything that we do that thrives takes work. 00:08:35.763 --> 00:08:39.458 A thriving marriage takes work. 00:08:39.458 --> 00:08:44.020 A thriving business takes work. 00:08:44.020 --> 00:08:50.822 Anything that you're going to do in your life, it just takes work if it's going to thrive. 00:08:50.822 --> 00:08:56.783 And this is what God was telling them in Deuteronomy, chapter 1, in verse 8 and then in verse 15. 00:08:56.783 --> 00:09:03.683 He's telling them you're going to go take possession, but it's also going to take a whole lot of work, right? 00:09:03.683 --> 00:09:07.320 So this is the mentality shift that God calls them to. 00:09:07.320 --> 00:09:08.096 Number two is the faith shift. 00:09:08.096 --> 00:09:08.682 Number one was calls them to. 00:09:08.682 --> 00:09:09.330 Number two is the faith shift. 00:09:09.330 --> 00:09:11.115 Number one was the mentality shift. 00:09:11.115 --> 00:09:23.336 Number two is the faith shift, and this is a big one for the Israelites, because it was from daily miracles to daily trust, from daily miracles to daily trust. 00:09:23.356 --> 00:09:28.775 Now, let me kind of break this down, because in the wilderness, here's what happened, we see, for 40 years. 00:09:28.775 --> 00:09:41.094 Because God was so good, he provided for them and there were visible miracles, constant miracles for his people, right? 00:09:41.094 --> 00:09:47.143 So they're walking around and every single day there's daily miracles. 00:09:47.143 --> 00:09:49.306 And every single day there's daily miracles. 00:09:49.306 --> 00:09:53.091 Manna rained down I want you to see this in Exodus, chapter 16, verse 4. 00:09:53.091 --> 00:09:59.681 Then the Lord said to Moses look, I'm going to rain down food from heaven for you. 00:09:59.681 --> 00:10:02.404 You're not even going to have to work for it. 00:10:02.404 --> 00:10:15.942 Each day, the people can go out and they can pick as much food as they need for the day, and I'll test them to see in this whether or not they follow my instructions. 00:10:15.942 --> 00:10:21.335 So every day, god was just raining these miracles down. 00:10:21.335 --> 00:10:22.438 Water gushed from rocks. 00:10:22.438 --> 00:10:28.062 They followed a cloud by day and fire by night. 00:10:28.062 --> 00:10:29.029 How many know that's a miracle? 00:10:29.029 --> 00:10:30.716 That's a huge miracle. 00:10:31.570 --> 00:10:33.076 Their clothes did not wear out. 00:10:33.076 --> 00:10:35.979 Pastor Jeremy talked about this last week in Deuteronomy 8, verse 4. 00:10:35.979 --> 00:10:45.750 For 40 years, this may be the biggest miracle of all of them that their clothes didn't wear out and their feet didn't blister. 00:10:45.750 --> 00:10:50.461 I can't keep my kids' shoes right for two weeks. 00:10:50.461 --> 00:10:53.576 Any parents attest to that. 00:10:53.576 --> 00:10:59.859 For 40 years their clothes didn't wear out, their shoes didn't blister, their feet didn't swell. 00:10:59.859 --> 00:11:04.110 So it's in the wilderness that God is giving them these daily miracles. 00:11:04.350 --> 00:11:09.118 But I want you to see, because there's a shift that happens in the promised land for them. 00:11:09.118 --> 00:11:17.951 In the promised land, god's provision was now woven into this natural process. 00:11:17.951 --> 00:11:19.215 What does that mean? 00:11:19.215 --> 00:11:28.383 That means if they wanted food in the promised land, it had to be put into the ground, it had to be watered, the sun had to hit it, the seasons had to be right. 00:11:28.383 --> 00:11:32.750 There was no manna falling from the sky anymore. 00:11:33.150 --> 00:11:42.557 As a matter of fact, in Joshua, chapter 5, it's a really important verse as they were crossing from the desert land. 00:11:42.557 --> 00:11:44.623 They've crossed over the Jordan. 00:11:44.623 --> 00:11:46.638 Here's what it says in Joshua, chapter 5. 00:11:46.638 --> 00:11:48.658 This is a really, really interesting verse. 00:11:48.658 --> 00:11:58.799 It says no manna appeared the day they first ate from the crops of the land and it was never seen again. 00:11:58.799 --> 00:12:02.149 It was never seen again. 00:12:02.149 --> 00:12:07.302 So they entered the promised land and the miracles falling from the sky weren't there. 00:12:07.302 --> 00:12:13.958 There was no more water gushing from rocks, there was no more cloud by day and fire by night. 00:12:14.600 --> 00:12:15.403 What does that mean? 00:12:15.403 --> 00:12:19.158 That means that God was trying to show his people. 00:12:19.158 --> 00:12:21.763 You're going to have to trust me for what you have. 00:12:21.763 --> 00:12:31.677 You're going to have to move from it's just there and you just get it, you just pop outside your tent and there's the food to now. 00:12:31.677 --> 00:12:34.943 You're going to have to work the ground and trust me that I'm going to provide. 00:12:36.187 --> 00:12:39.677 This was a huge faith shift for the Israelites. 00:12:39.677 --> 00:12:54.215 I can just even imagine the first time that they had to plant in the ground, that they had to put seed in the ground and they had to watch and see if it would grow, and then the rain comes and then they see the harvest of what they planted. 00:12:54.215 --> 00:12:59.576 I believe that was probably a faith building moment for them, because they'd never had to do that before. 00:12:59.576 --> 00:13:03.333 They didn't have to do that in the desert, it was just there. 00:13:03.333 --> 00:13:06.214 Now, in the promised land, god was teaching them. 00:13:06.214 --> 00:13:19.086 You will have to trust me, and I believe that as we're crossing over and we're moving from desert living to promised land living, it's going to take a whole other level of trust that we've never had before. 00:13:19.086 --> 00:13:24.556 Right, so this is the faith test for us. 00:13:24.556 --> 00:13:27.240 The faith isn't just about seeing the miracles. 00:13:27.240 --> 00:13:36.807 It's about trusting God that what he's doing is working okay. 00:13:36.807 --> 00:13:37.326 So we got the faith test. 00:13:37.326 --> 00:13:37.967 We got the faith shift. 00:13:37.988 --> 00:13:38.869 Number three is that we have the heart shift. 00:13:38.869 --> 00:13:47.740 This is a big one for the Israelites the heart shift from complaining to conquering, from complaining to conquering. 00:13:47.740 --> calling you to step into, the new thing that you feel like God is calling you to step into, it's going to require God rewiring our heart and God rewiring the way that not only do we see things, but were said Like very little positive things. 00:14:46.653 --> 00:14:57.456 We see in Numbers, chapter 13, when Caleb and Joshua say we can, go, take the land, ten come back and say we can't, and the ten spread faster than the two. 00:14:57.456 --> 00:14:59.264 Right. 00:14:59.264 --> 00:15:06.897 So all throughout the wilderness they are notorious for complaining, right. 00:15:06.897 --> 00:15:09.293 So they complained about their food. 00:15:09.293 --> 00:15:10.791 They complained about water. 00:15:10.791 --> 00:15:12.652 They complained about leadership. 00:15:12.652 --> 00:15:15.072 They just complained. 00:15:15.072 --> 00:15:28.991 But God was telling them there's a shift that they were gonna to have to make when they crossed over into the promised land, because they could not defeat the giants they were called to defeat with a complaining heart. 00:15:28.991 --> 00:15:31.932 They had to make this shift. 00:15:31.932 --> 00:15:35.475 So that was in the wilderness and in the promised land. 00:15:35.475 --> 00:15:38.895 God was really trying to shift their hearts. 00:15:38.895 --> 00:15:44.297 Complaining kept the previous generation in the desert. One of the primary shifts that we see in the book of Joshua is that the land that they were called to conquer, the promised land, was more about the next generation than it was the previous generation. 00:16:34.657 --> 00:16:41.754 Here's what we see all throughout the book of Joshua is, you see, generational language. 00:16:41.754 --> 00:17:03.625 If you really go and you do a deep dive into the book of Joshua, it's all about the inheritance, it's all about the children, it's all about who would come next, not necessarily about what was, what was. 00:17:03.625 --> 00:17:10.465 And I think God was trying to relay to Joshua and the people that you're not just conquering the land for you, you're also conquering the land for the people behind you, right? 00:17:10.465 --> 00:17:11.347 How many know? 00:17:11.347 --> 00:17:15.617 We're fighting giants today so that our kids don't have to fight them. 00:17:15.617 --> 00:17:29.478 We're conquering things so that the people behind us don't have to conquer those things, and that's the legacy shift that joshua is trying to make from wanderers to pioneers. 00:17:29.499 --> 00:17:38.477 So in the wilderness, the first generation failed to enter the promised land because of disobedience, fear and unbelief. 00:17:38.477 --> 00:17:40.961 That's why they didn't enter. 00:17:40.961 --> 00:17:48.976 God made it abundantly clear you will not enter the promised land because of disobedience, fear and your unbelief. 00:17:48.976 --> 00:17:53.790 Okay, and then in Joshua, chapter 5, I want you to see this. 00:17:53.790 --> 00:18:07.346 --> 00:18:12.238 In Joshua 5, verse 6, he sums up and he's telling us God's plan for this new generation that was coming into the promised land. 00:18:12.238 --> 00:18:14.782 This is in verse 6 of Joshua 5. 00:18:14.782 --> 00:18:23.048 He says the Israelites had moved about in the wilderness 40 years until all the men who were of military age when they left Egypt had died. 00:18:23.048 --> 00:18:25.588 And then here's what verse 7 says, verse 7. 00:18:25.588 --> 00:18:45.868 That's a really interesting verse. 00:18:45.868 --> 00:18:52.794 So he raised up their sons in their place and these were the ones that Joshua circumcised. 00:18:52.794 --> 00:19:03.054 So he was saying these are the next ones, these are the ones that are called to take the land in this promised land. 00:19:04.019 --> 00:19:12.792 So in the promised land, it was a new generation that was born, that they were watching the faith and obedience of Joshua and Caleb. 00:19:12.792 --> 00:19:17.151 And I don't know about you guys, but I want to be one that champions the next generation. 00:19:17.151 --> 00:19:23.553 I want to be one and I'm thankful that we're a church that says whole legacy shift that is happening in the life of Joshua. 00:19:34.440 --> 00:19:36.547 So they're crossing over. 00:19:37.000 --> 00:19:38.405 There's so many different times. 00:19:38.405 --> 00:19:43.708 We see in Joshua, chapter four, this is in verse six and seven. 00:19:43.708 --> 00:19:48.125 It's not on the screen but he says Joshua tells them as they're crossing over. 00:19:48.125 --> 00:19:59.144 He says this is to serve as a sign among you in the future, when your children ask, when your children ask, why are we doing this, you need to tell them. 00:19:59.144 --> 00:20:02.151 He says it again in verse 21,. 00:20:02.151 --> 00:20:08.589 Caleb talks about it in Joshua 14, that the inheritance was for the future generations. 00:20:09.813 --> 00:20:16.301 Number five, number five here's the last shift that we've got to make and then we're going to spend some time praying tonight. 00:20:16.301 --> 00:20:17.747 It's the spiritual shift. 00:20:17.747 --> 00:20:26.913 It's the spiritual shift and this was following the cloud to following his word, from following the cloud to following his word. 00:20:26.913 --> 00:20:29.980 We know for 40 years word from following the cloud to following his word. 00:20:29.980 --> 00:20:35.041 We know for 40 years cloud by day, fire by night. 00:20:35.041 --> 00:20:35.583 Cloud by day, fire by night. 00:20:35.583 --> 00:20:37.445 And the Israelites in the wilderness. 00:20:37.445 --> 00:20:42.054 They needed no roadmap because they just had the cloud. 00:20:43.181 --> 00:20:47.251 But in Exodus, chapter 13, it talks about how that they would follow this. 00:20:47.251 --> 00:20:52.448 But then, when they get to the promised land, it disappeared. 00:20:52.448 --> 00:20:56.954 But what did appear is that God gave them his lips. 00:21:06.349 --> 00:21:12.461 Everybody say always on your lips, the law always on your lips. 00:21:12.461 --> 00:21:18.074 Everybody say always on your lips, meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do everything written in it, and then you'll be prosperous and successful. 00:21:18.074 --> 00:21:25.409 So God was telling them as you're entering into this promised land, there is a huge shift that there's not going to be a cloud, there's not going to be a fire. 00:21:25.409 --> 00:21:33.730 But I am giving you my word that there's not going to be a cloud, there's not going to be a fire, but I am giving you my word and how many know in today's world, we should be following his word more than ever. 00:21:33.730 --> 00:21:35.160 Amen. 00:21:35.160 --> 00:21:42.374 And it's a huge shift that the Israelites had to make that we also have to make on a daily basis Amen. 00:21:44.701 --> 00:22:05.325 I want to show you this we're going to spend just a few minutes praying tonight and I've got these prayer points on the screen for you, all of these different shifts, and I've added these certain prayers in here that over the next few minutes, I want us to pray
