[00:00:00] Welcome to The Greater Call Podcast, a special edition of this greater call. And it's special because I've got with me a gospel singer songwriter, chart topper, um, someone who I've come to know through music. And now here we are, Josh Baldwin. You're on the show with me, man. What a thrill. It's great to have you.

Oh, this is, this is such, oh, this is, this is such an honor to be a part of this. So, yeah, thanks for having me. Referral is all mine. Okay. When I reached folks when I reached out to Josh the first time, in a reminder, please interact with us via social. The handles there are at the greater call on Instagram and X of course, on YouTube.

Search and subscribe. And while you're out there, look for Josh Baldwin as well. Um, the inspiration for the show was to kind of summarize where we were through our first seven. Additions of this Greater Call podcast. Of course, with this being a place where you can come and you can get lessons [00:01:00] on life and leadership and just how to be a, a great man or woman of God from some of the heroes of our faith.

So Josh, before we dive into Joseph and David and Paul and these guys we've covered so far and get your take, I'm gonna make a few statements to you. These are your statements and I just want you out of, out of the spirit within, I want you just to respond, sentence or two, whatever it might be, and that'll sort of kick us off.

Okay? Okay. First off, okay. Alright, here's a statement. I know who I am because I know who you are. Have at it. Um, well, I ang I've sang that statement. Well, I've sang, I've sang that statement maybe more than any other statement that I've s in the last year. I, and. I, uh, that, that one, yeah, that, that one, honestly, it really hit home honestly.

It really hit home. I, like, I wrote that song [00:02:00] a year or two after I wrote that song, which was, we're coming up on three years ago since I wrote those words. And, um, I heard my kids, I'll tell you when it hit, I heard my kids singing. I was just in my car. We were, I was just bad recording, playing this of a new song, bad recording of a new song.

And, uh, trip, we kept playing it through. We were on a road trip and I'm just playing it through, over and over, just trying to figure out if it was good or not heard. My, and I heard my, my, uh, at that time, 10 and 11-year-old singing those lines. And I thought, that's when it hit me. Like the power behind.

Just saying that is like the, okay, the more more I learn about the father, the more, the more I learn about the father, the more about I learn about the Lord, the more he reveals who I am and who I'm truly called to be. And in this day and age, when I hear my kids singing something like that in the back, I'm like, that's, you know, there's so many, there's so many, you know, there's so many influences on the outside coming in trying to tell us who we're supposed to be or who we're not.

All of these things. And if we can just ourselves do this, but also ourselves do this, but also [00:03:00] like teach our kids into the father's to listen to the father's voice. Only do that. Find his voice in the, not only do that, but find his voice in the scriptures and hone into. To who he is, then they'll start, who they are will be revealed.

Being who they are will be revealed to them. That, and every time I hear that as that, every time I hear that as lines, every time I sing those lines, I, I think about that moment. I go, I think about that moment that it just like hit me that, okay, this is something that not only I feel like I need to sing and get out, but this is something that I'm gonna.

Singing over and praying Over My family. For you? Well, for what it's worth, that statement amongst others that you've made in songs have hit me real hard too, and I think, you know, the Lord's ways are mysterious. We know this and it's amazing to me how I've listened to gospel music for the longest time.

Then all of a sudden, sudden the song Made for More comes on the radio and I quickly download it. And now when I'm on airplanes, wherever I go, I listen to this all of the time. And there was something, the inspiration for all of this, [00:04:00] I didn't know it was gonna be this Greater call podcast. I thought it was gonna be my other on the Mark Golf show where you said you sang I wasn't made to be Tending a grave.

Yeah, right. I was called by name. Yeah. Born and raised into life again. And I was like, this is a golf lesson. Not just a life lesson because it's such a mindset shifter. And we'll get into Gideon, our first hero here in a minute because think of all the folks that are tending Graves, stuff that they passed and they're still busy, as you say, tending a grave instead of going, I was called by name.

It's time now to walk into who I was. 'cause I am made for more. Right? Right. Right. Right. Good. I need to remember that. It's, that's so good. I need to remember that on my own golf game. 'cause I need to learn how to move on from those bad. I need to learn how to move on from those bad holes. Well, okay. Well, in the interest of doing this, let's get into it.

Okay. Yeah. [00:05:00] Um, this is out of order. Order 'cause the folks, if you're listening to this the first time, we are seven episodes of the greater call in. The first one was called Dream Again with Joseph. The second one was perfectly, perfectly human with David. The third one was Unshakeable Mission Paul. Then there was Faithful Existence Noah, and then Learned leader Joshua.

And yes, I put Joshua ahead of Moses in this. The next one was Timid Hero, Gideon. Where we're gonna start with now, and then the seventh one up to now was the obedient wanderer in Moses. All right, so I'm gonna make an observation of what I drew from Gideon, and then I want you to respond with yours, please.

Um, my pastor Kyle, who does the show with me, when we talked about Gideon, he said, God qualifies the cold. He doesn't call the qualified. Yeah. And here's Gideon, who folks don't know the story. He's this little old guy. He's kind of Mr. Nobody [00:06:00] with respect. He's on the threshing room floor hiding away, just providing for his family.

And the angel of the Lord shows up and goes in Judges six 12, the Lord is with you mighty warrior. Yeah. That to me was like, gosh, that could be me. Yeah. He didn't even know he was gonna be this military hero. And he tried his best to avoid it. Remember? Okay. Right. But, but, but, God, God stayed on him. And I can imagine you in your industry too, because it's gotta be nerve wracking and stuff to get up in front of thousands of people and respond to your calling.

Yes. Oh, yes, yes. Oh, yes. Yes. I, um, I relate very much. I feel like I relate very much to Gideon. This, which I feel like there's, we were even talking earlier, I feel like there's a lot of. In my own life, I could see in, in all these, these guys. But I, um, so many times I get up and I, there's so many times I get up and I think, like, Lord, why, why am I doing this?

Like, why did you put [00:07:00] me out here in front of people and I'm, I can close my eyes and, you know, I can close my eyes. And seeing, and even seeing that things that I felt the Lord given me. If I'm not looking, I can like, and if I'm not looking, I can like self pretend like I'm by myself and just do that.

There's something about like, but there's something about like, when it comes to sharing. And, uh, speaking, and I felt like initially I was like, Lord, I'm, I don't feel like I'm a good speaker. I don't, I don't feel qualified. I just don't feel, I don't feel qualified for this. Like there's plenty of other people who are.

Great communicators sing. Can I just like sing? Can I just do that and share my songs? I'll write and sing, but the older I get more and more, the older I get, the more and more I feel like the Lord like tries, pushes me out into where I get, have to like rely to where I get, have to like rely on him, not on essentially, and not on my talents or my strengths.

Man and um, Gideon man, love, love, I love even too, how so many times, 'cause I see myself, he's like so many times, 'cause I see myself doing this, okay, there's [00:08:00] so many times he's like, okay, I'll do it. But what if you do this? What if you do this pitching to the car? I'm always like that. I'm always like that sign guy.

I'm like, let me see a sign guy. You know? Uh, I, I up 11, if I see 11, 11 on the clock, then I'll know it's you or something crazy like that, you know? But I also love how, but I also love how loving the Lord is to like loving the Lord is to like, you know, he honors some of that, you know, he's like, all right, well here you go to a certain point where it's, but then it comes to a certain point where it's like, okay, now you're just gonna have to trust me.

You're just gonna have to step out and, and, uh, this faith is gonna actually re require you. To trust my promises. Brilliant. I mean, 11 and 11 on the clock, that's nothing compared to Gideon going, I was looking for Do on the mat and not do on the Yeah, exactly. Right. He got very specific. Yeah, he got very specific.

He really did. And I feel like, you know, God's got such a great sense of humor. And again, this is about leadership, right? Because he would become a leader, but God's like, no, you don't need 30,000 guys. You [00:09:00] need to narrow this down to 300 so I can show off how mighty I am through you. Yeah. Yeah. So I mean it, yeah.

So real. I mean, it's, I love that. I love that it's, uh, I, I mean, I, life applying it to our own life. I think about it again, I, I, anything good or if I say anything good, or if anything comes out of those a night or a service of the Lord does something like, I feel like there's so many chances for me to be able to look back and be like.

Yeah, well that had to be the Lord that just, no joke. The Lord is so good. I, I gotta, I gotta share this and I'm not trying to sound pious or anything like this. Um, because here I find myself, and I'm sure you get the same sort of thing when you perform around the world. I'm on a crew with Titans in the golf industry, and then there's little old me.

Yeah, and, and then you get your airtime and stuff and obviously you're nervous at times or whatever, but before everyone I try and pray and I'm just like, try and make myself available as a leadership lesson. [00:10:00] Yeah. And then I don't like to listen to myself. I dunno how you are. Uh, I guess you have to. I, I don't like to listen to myself talk.

I don't like to listen to myself talk. I'm used to hearing me, s I'm, I'm used to hearing me sing, so that doesn't, that doesn't bother as much, but yeah, speaking, I'm like, am I really that? Because then I'm like, am I really that stuff, that country, look, um, I can't sing, so I only get to talk and sometimes I listen back and I'm like, gosh, that was quite smart.

And, and it's like, I surprise myself and it's almost like that Gideon moment or any of these heroes where it's like, you know, I was just available as a leader. Yeah. And God used me in a, in some sort of a way to achieve one or other end. Yeah. I love that. I, yeah, it makes, I love that. I, it makes me think of, um, this pastor that, uh, I used to hear.

At this university that I went to for two years. Okay. Before I dropped out. He, that's a whole other thing. That's a whole other po but that's a whole other, that's a whole other podcast. Um, I remember this, [00:11:00] he used to say, but I remember this one thing he used to say, 'cause I grew up hearing Lord use me, Lord.

That was like a prayer. And he was like, why don't we pray, Lord, make me usable. Okay. When I get into a place, when I get into a place of really just letting go and being usable, he's going to use me. He's gonna use you. And so that's what I thought about, like, oh. Yeah, just, you know what? We can stop the show right now.

You've just dropped the nugget there, John. That that is the big one. Um, so Gideon, uh, incredible story. A great leader in the end. But like you say, he was like, alright, after all the questions, I'm gonna trust you God, now make me usable. And he was. Yeah, one of Israel's great judges as well. Okay, let's get back into order here, because again, the song Made for More, which is my favorite.

And I'm not just saying this 'cause you're on this call with me. Um, 'cause it speaks to me, it speaks to my soul. Um, Gideon was made for more. All right, so let's go to episode one. [00:12:00] Yes, Joseph. You know, all right. Multicolored coat, um, sold into slavery by his brothers. 'cause he was a little brash and obnoxious.

You know, we've all done that. Um, then, um, right into slavery, gets the, the, basically the run of POTUS palace, um, gets accused of something he didn't do, but he, he held his own. Then he was thrown in jail. Yeah. For a long time. And, and, and through this whole Joseph story because in the end he gets at the end of it all to show grace to his brothers who did him wrong.

And he was a leader of Egypt, second in command under Pharaoh. Um, as I look at Joseph, I personally, 'cause I've taught golf since 1996, like for ages now 54 and hanging on and. There were many, many days in the Georgia Heat where I would give lessons and I'd be sweating my buns off. Yeah. But something inside I felt like I [00:13:00] was made for more.

Yeah. And then all of a sudden broadcast comes along and here we are. Okay. So serendipitous, blessed, but looking back that time in the Georgia Heat on the driving range, giving lessons to club golfers sort of uniquely equipped me. For what I get to do now because it taught me a style of communication where as a TV announcer, I look wide and I tell you stuff you don't see.

So the point that I get from Joseph is, here's this guy that so much bad stuff happened to him and so much good stuff happened to him, but during his jail time. Yeah, that's when he was still in service and he almost became more reliant on God. Instead of being the youngster going, yo man, I'm gonna be the best and you're gonna bow to me and all the rest of this.

He's like, God, here I'm in jail and there's a baker and a wine maker, or whatever they were, and I'm gonna. Interpret their dreams and hopefully that turns into something. So I'm gonna be in service to you. That was my takeaway from Joseph, and I feel like there's a real life lesson of kind of being in service to people when times are hard.[00:14:00]

Yeah. Oh, so, so true. Yeah. Oh, so, so true. I thought that you said all that. I thought the funny thing you said, all that I thought the same thing when I'm reading this reading back about Joseph, I was thinking, pastor, I was a worship pastor. This little church in the mountains of North Carolina. Back in my twenties, single looking for my wife, single looking for my wife.

Like, Lord, you promised me all I want, you know, a family. And this is all I wanted. I wanted to be a full-time worship leader and have a family. And here I was, I was leading worship, but I was also doing, I was leading worship, but I was also doing like two or three other jobs living in the middle of nowhere, pacing like, and I remember pacing like this dirt road next to my house.

And just praying for the Lord. Like, Lord, you these, you've given me all these promises. I've had these dreams. I've had people speaking in my life that I'm gonna be doing this one day. It look like that right now, but it doesn't look like that right now. Like you get so, get so worried. You know? You get into, so you get so worried.

I happen on my own, try to make things happen on my own. I, and um, I just hear, I just kept thinking. I just hear [00:15:00] the Lord like saying, like, listen, this is, I put you here for this season. And I want you to focus on this. I want you to essentially like pastor the people and the things in your life in this season.

And let me, your dreams, like pastor your dreams, you know, or water this garden over here. And, um, and just trust. Trust my plan. And I mean, that's Joseph. Like all these dreams, all these things, all these dreams, all these things, the lord's given to him. And then, you know, yeah, maybe in his confidence, brash cockiness confidence, I flash cockiness.

I don't know. He decides to share him with his brothers and that doesn't end well. Um. But the, the ability he has to hold onto those, the, the ability he has to hold onto those things. Like in the prison, in those moments, like actually still, and in those moments, like actually still keep serving where you have me, Lord.

Okay, well this is where you have me, Lord. So I'm gonna serve you here. Well, I'm gonna, I'm gonna serve you here. And that means minister to, you know, minister into, you know, dreams and all this, that here and then in every, I'm gonna do that here. And then in every little step, like the Lord just keeps promoting him and promoting him.[00:16:00]

It's just such a great picture of the Lord's faith. It's just such a great picture of the Lord's faithfulness. How, but also like how Joseph, so many chances to give up. He had so many chances to give up. He's like, I've seen these dreams, I've seen these promises about, and they're not coming about then why God?

Like I don't. Mm-hmm. So many opportunities to not, you know, he had so many opportunities to not believe the Lord. And, um, I love, I love his, uh, I just, I love, I love his, uh, the ability to, he had the ability to just be faithful of the Lord. And let me say too, I, he, the, the fact that like, when he does the fact brothers, like when he does see his brothers offers compassion, and he like, offers compassion and love when, I mean, I, I know I would, I mean, I, I know I would, it would be hard for me not to hammer down on them, bring the hammer down on them, boss.

Well, look, look, who's the boss now, you know? Just the, the fact that he walked all that, he walked through, the fact fact that he walked through all that he walked through and he still had the love of the Lord in him to show towards his family and to look at as and to look at it as great, the Lord is to put, look at how great the Lord is to put me in this position to be able to help in this, [00:17:00] my family in this season of, of drought because he basically saved, he saved the Israel art nation with that.

Yeah. Yeah. And maybe that does. And you know, he maybe, and maybe that does, and you know, he, maybe he's not even that position had his brothers not even sold it. So it's such a great story. It's so, it's such a great story unless the how the Lord turns, how the Lord turns things for His. So much so that you're like, did you, so much so that you're like, did you plan That worked out so well.

That worked out so well. How could it have been better? How could it have been better if I hadn't have gone through this horrible things? It is cool and as you're speaking you sort of jog something inside of me and, and I keep on ya, you know, faith with a faithful with a little before you get much. Yeah, yeah.

Because when you start to get a lot of stuff, I'd like you to speak about this, you know, that's when temp temptation and challenges and stuff doubled down. You know, everyone thinks when they got a little life is gonna be easier if, you know, sometimes it isn't. [00:18:00] No, and I think, no, and I think there's something about hard times.

There's something about hard times that pull you closer to the Lord, and so I don't have hard times now, not that I don't have hard times now or, or that don't come along here and there, but like I think I'm, I'm, I think I'm, I'm often looking back to some of those hard seasons, not wanting the hard season and not wanting the hard season, but in some ways longing for the closeness that I felt to the Lord in those seasons, if that makes sense.

And. Um, I, I just, yeah. I think that's, remember when we are a good thing to remember when we are maybe walking in the promises. Make sure that we are to also make sure that we are still keeping that closeness with the board. You know what, you should get into a sideline. There's a motivational slash biblical teacher.

'cause you're pretty good at this stuff. Oh wow. You're the first person to ever say that. You're the first person to ever say that. I receive it. I was, I receive it. I receive it. Let's move along. Um, you know, there's so many heroes in the Bible, [00:19:00] um, of them all. David is my favorite. The Shepherd King. Yeah. Um, and the reason why is.

He's such a hero, David, but he's just still so human. And despite all the misgivings, God called him a man after my own heart. Mm-hmm. And if you read David's story, it's kind of checkered. Um, and here's, here's another thing quickly that I digress. Um, here recently, my wife Tracy and I watched a series on tv, which was called House of David's.

Yes. And I thought it depicted the story beautifully. I need to watch that and how and how he gets anointed by Samuel over all the handsome, strong brothers who were supposed to be, and he's anointed the future king. Then he sent back into the fields to be a shepherd for many, many more years. Yeah. And he's shining moment happens, of course, when he takes down golia.

And I did a podcast, a golf show on this. The golf lessons you could learn from David. It was about [00:20:00] preparation and rehearsal and picking the right equipment 'cause he took time selecting the right pebbles and all this sort of stuff. But in-house of David, this undersized, unassuming hero who was gonna be the future king of Israel.

He had this interaction with his girlfriend. I dunno if this was biblical. But she said, aren't you scared? And he goes, I'm terrified, but God is with me. I'm gonna do this anyway. Yeah. And I, there's such a life lesson in this because how many times Josh, are you like terrified or scared, but you're like, okay, this is who I am.

I was made for more. It's time to now step into my role. Yeah. Oh yeah. No, it's so many times. I, um, almost feel like in some seasons almost feel like in some seasons, like, if I'm not terrified to do this, is this doing is [00:21:00] supposed to be doing? You know, like sometimes I'm like right path, Lord, is this the right path?

'cause. I feel like I'm feel too easy to me, or I've might feel too easy to me, or I feel like I've got this under my own strength maybe to, to even pull it back to Gideon. But like, I want that sometimes I, I, I want that bit of like nervousness just so that I'm nervousness, just so that I'm like forced to like.

Step out and faith trust in the Lord and step out in faith. Yeah. David's such a man. Yeah. David's such a and crazy faith and just a heart after the Lord, but also a heart after the Lord. But also, and the fact that he's just like, and you can see it and the fact he's just like, yeah, I can take on this huge, like, you know, I'll Goliath man.

Like, you know, I'll do it like, just like stepping out. But still so tender, even still so tender. Even to like, I mean, he's, I'm a worship leader, the ultimate worship leader. He's our worship leader hero. I mean, he, yeah, he is the father of the worship movement. You know, I just, I love that. He, I just, I love that he, um, shows how you can be like a man, a mighty man.

He was a mighty king. [00:22:00] He was. He defeated Goliath, but then also's over here, na, for like soth Saul by playing music, drove the says evil spirit. He drove the evil spirits away from Saul. I look at that as what I, I look at that as like what I do, and I'm like, I feel like I'm called to. Yeah, that's, I feel like I'm called to do that with the guitar.

I i's this thing on my life. I feel like that's the thing on my life to like be able to, to worship, to play music, to worship, to lead songs, to write songs away. That help drive away spirits from people, you know, the evil spirits from people or whatever. So I love that he is, I love that he is, uh, both a strong man, but also in touch with the, the, um, sensitive side of just the sensitive side of just like following the spirit and knowing the Lord.

And, um, you know, the Psalms are, I mean, I wrote, my first Psalms are, I mean, I wrote my first song in from the song Hopping in David, and from the songs from the song, I love how honest he is. I love how honest he is goes from one song to just like, he goes from one song to just like the, you know, all giving glory to the Lord, you know, all giving all praise to the Lord [00:23:00] and just the next song you were strong.

And then the next song, he's just like, where are you God? He, he was so real. And, and you talk about He was so real for, he was leaders. All right. You know, we, we told Christianity as a relationship with your savior, Jesus. With the Holy Spirit and the, you, you, you're right, you'd read the Psalms as David's like, dude, God, are you serious about this stuff?

I mean, really? Now where are you? And then a few stanzas later, then he is like, oh, you're the greatest. You're my strong and mighty for, you know. And then he goes, he changes his minds so quickly. I love that. And I think I love that. And I think. I'm like, maybe is that why the Lord? Is that why he was called a man after God's a heart?

Because he's actually, he's okay with just being He. He's okay with just being honest and vulnerable and real with the Lord and having a conversation and walking with him and just. Sharing his ups and downs. And until he wasn't being really honest until he, until he wasn't until he, until he lied about, wrote here.

I was like, like a row here. I was like, with the Lord. David was so honest with the Lord until he wasn't. Well, [00:24:00] I, I, I, I want, I want your take here. Um, keeping David, David in mind. You know, as you know, 'cause leader leaders aren't just leaders of businesses and whatever it is, they're husbands and wives watching this.

They're leaders of families and there's team leaders and stuff. I would say in the era in which we find ourselves Josh, like real authenticity, real honest, like this is who I am. It's becoming a thing of the past because with social media, we'll put our best veneer and our foot forward all of the time.

Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Oh, it's really tough. And it's so true. No one sees No, that's so true. No one sees best parts of, you only see the best parts of everyone. Yeah. On, on social media. Yeah. Oh yeah. Um. There's something to that. I just, there's something, and you know what? On the other end people, and you know what, on the other end, people are, uh, drawn to someone.

So drawn to someone who's real and vulnerable, because I think it's, it's harder to see, you know, it's so much harder to see. You do grab when you know, it's just when you do grab, when you do see someone who [00:25:00] vulnerable, but also just vulnerable, but also just real about their relationship with the Lord too.

It, you latch onto it. 'cause you're like, ah, yeah, I don't see that enough. I, I don't see that enough. Mm-hmm. I need, I need to be a part of that. And, um, David was like the original. Yeah. He really was. I mean, honestly my hero and, and for the reasons you list, you know, for that human element to him, it's not like, you know, so often you read about these heroes and, and, and one for me, for the longest time till I dived into this stuff and you said, Hey man, I'm reading these stories more.

When I started this, it's like, dang, I've gotta spend some time in the Bible here. So I, 'cause it's easy for me to vamp about golf, I cannot vamp about these, this subject again. So, but I remember, you know, all these guys were little, those little felt images on the Felt board and Sunday school and stuff.

Yes, totally. Yeah. Yes, totally. But then when I dive into the stuff and then you sort of don't just read the story, but you look at the character like. [00:26:00] David is just a guy. Th these are all just guys over here. And, and the, the heroes, hero, winds of the faith, the same thing. They just, there was something inside of them that they responded to and then their personality developed with God's leading.

Are you feeling where I'm going here? Yeah, totally. Yes, and totally yes. And. I, um, and I, I was saying this earlier too, the more I read these stories, brush up on 'em and brush up on 'em, I think about going back. I do, I do think about going back to learning them, about them as a kid now being, you know, my mid forties and now being, you know, in my mid forties enough, and I've lived life enough to see what they went through and apply it to my own life.

And I'm like, of course he struggled with this. Of course he struggle with this. Like, yeah, I don't the ever, you know, I don't feel worthy ever, you know, or I don't feel called to this and I'm always questioning the Lord about things. Like, of course Gideon went through that. Of course David, like here and there, and had struggles here and there and trusting the Lord sometimes, you know, it's been so good to actually do this.

It's been [00:27:00] so good to actually do this and go back to this and because. Being a songwriter, finding so many little, I'm just like finding so many little nuggets and things to like, actually we don't have him on the list. I actually, we don't have him on the list here, but I wrote a song about Abraham. Well, he's coming.

He, he, he's a Future Greater Call podcast. Alright. Alright. Alright. Gimme a call back. All right. Gimme a call back. I'm so glad you would say that because in a way I, not that I'm looking for validation, but it's good to hear because I do believe that everything for life is in the Bible, including, and it's not just like.

Proverbs and the 10 Commandments and stuff, but it's actually diving into the lives of these people anyway, and we'll, we'll eventually end this whole thing with Jesus, the ultimate leader. All right, let's get to, um, the, uh, unshakeable mission, Paul. I mean, this guy's, he's, I can imagine Paul being a complete lunatic.

All right. I, I, I, I love the way he would say, and don't take that wrong. I, I, I love the way he would say to the [00:28:00] Romans, I'm a Roman to the Greeks. I'm a Greek. So he would find a way to communicate with each and every one of them. And he wasn't like, this is how it's gonna be. He would talk to you in your language and, uh, respect your custom.

He called himself the Jew of all Jews, and I persecuted Jews. Um, but the thing about Paul was that once he's. Has the encounter with God Almighty, and then he was never the same. And it's like this guy was on mission and he had one mission, shipwrecked snake bitten, thrown in jail, you know, in jail singing praises to the how hard's it gonna be to sing praises to the Lord if they toss you in jail for a little.

Think about the dude, this dude on mission. Yeah. He was the ultimate missionary and that's what I respect so much about his, the man and about his leadership style. He was on brand, he was. He was, I imagine he was, was like, I imagine he was like intense uhhuh, you know, just [00:29:00] because you don't, just because you don't.

Before he met the Lord, well first of all, before he met the Lord in the other way, he's intense in the other way. And, and Christianity's ultimate and enemy, Christianity's ultimate enemy in some ways, you know? And then to have that massive and then to have that massive transformation and it not moment.

Yeah, I had a moment. And, uh, life changing, like changing, life changing, changing my name, and now I'm the opposite. Correction. So much so that I'm just like head down, you know? I'm just like, head down, nothing's going to shake me. I go, I thrown in prison. I place my way outta there. We're gonna keep the mission going so much.

He's like, Hey, so much so too that I, he's like, and I was suggesting married and I was suggesting maybe you don't get married. Either's. You know, he's just like, I'm, you know, he's just like, I'm focused on one thing and it's preaching the gospel and that is like. That's, uh, I mean it's intense and it's inspiring.

No wonder he wrote, and no wonder he wrote, [00:30:00] you know, so many letters that exactly are in the word and we, a question we carry to the state. Here's a, this is just an opinion taken. This has just popped in my head. Yeah. Yeah. And, and I asked this of you because you famous singer, songwriter. Uh, everyone should be listening to my favorite song, gospel song.

Um, do you ever, do you ever wonder if it's actually resonating, if you don't look at record sales like that? Because I asked this question bearing Paul in mind because do you ever thought that this guy think that this guy was going, yeah, you know, I'm gonna pin three quarters of the New Testament. When he is just writing letters to to churches.

He's writing to the churches. He's just writing to the churches. I says, I, I, I'd love your take there. So, wow, that's such a great, wow, that's such a great question. I mean, yeah. Um, I, I mean, yeah, I'd, I wonder if it's, if things are resonating and if people were resonating and if people were, uh, moved and, and [00:31:00] mm-hmm.

Moved and, and, and moved to inspired and moved to. Learn, know the Lord more through songs, you know? I think sometimes it's easy. I think sometimes it's easy to look at and how things are doing. The numbers, it's easy for me to see doing. It's easy for me to see how songs like Made For More are touching people.

That's, yeah, it's done really well. I mean, yeah, the, it's done really well. Just the numbers, which you also, I know the people, but I also, I know the message earlier, like I know how, and like I said earlier, like I know how much it has touched my own family two years before I ever released it into the world.

And I think even in some of that is like even in songs, when I write songs, it's when I'm writing this, I'm like, if this is moving me overflow, if this is coming out of just the overflow of my heart and my, do I feel like it's gonna reach people? Then I do feel like it's gonna reach people and it's gonna touch people.

I feel like there's a reason that I'm writing this. There's something to it. You hear back and no matter what you hear back or not, you just have to trust the Lord also, and, and also a worship leader. And come a worship leader, [00:32:00] me, my offering to the Lord is just me and my offering to the Lord be enough.

Then that's got, that's gonna be enough to, that needs to be enough. Like this is just an offering to the Lord. Yeah. Paul, I. Yeah, Paul, I mean, you do think he would who, if you do think he would've thought like, okay, one day there's gonna be the word of God, the Bible. This is gonna be the word of God, the Bible, probably most of it.

And you're gonna have probably most of it, it's gonna be these letters. There's, it's gonna be these letters that you wrote and I don't think could imagine and I don't believe, could you imagine? I have not found this in the Bible, that heed knew this. At the time he was just staying on mission. Yeah.

Legacy. Yeah, he has a thing too. Encouraging. Just encouraging, encouraging, just encouraging people and like what you do, it's legacy moves. Like your music is gonna outlive you. Like Paul's messages outlive Paul, and part of leadership is leaving this legacy for the next generation. He is, you know, if there was the ultimate leader, I would almost call it this guy, but he didn't act like it.

He was just like, I'm on to go and try and effect, impact and serve somebody else. There's always a mission. It's, I [00:33:00] I love that you said ultimate. It's, I see, I love that you said ultimate 'cause I wrote down Paul. Yeah. The ultimate Christian, which is just, which again, which is, uh, again, the transforming power of the Lord to turn him from what he was into this like from stoning, from, from stoning, believers, people follows of the way to pinning most of the Bible.

Yeah. Responsible for the first martyr. Responsible for the first martyr. To now responsible for most of the, of the Bible and, and changing the lives of believers for the history. If, if you just think, if, honestly, if you just take a moment like in, in Psalms sah and you just consider that and you just think about that, it's like, it's, it's a miracle in itself.

It is, it's, it is enough to like help anyone. It's enough to like help anyone who's ever. Been discouraged or worried that they're not good enough or not enough or they've tending grave, they're past, they're tend graves. It's enough to to like show it's enough to, to like show you like [00:34:00] No, the Lord can do anything.

The Lord can use you. Um, wherever you are powerful, wherever you are, can use the gospel. Even the threshing floor. Yeah. Okay, I've gotta move along. Keeping you too long, right? No. Good. I could Going forever. Oh no, you're good. Faithful existence. It was episode four. It's about Noah. And here's where I wanted your take because.

The thing that jumped out to me in Noah, and, and, and it's amazing, you know, how the algorithm gets you, right? Yeah. So after I'm doing all this reading and talking about this stuff, and there's a podcast, I'm getting more and more of the stuff fed to me. And it's all of these accounts where it's like, oh, the proof of the arc, it's in terms of the way the thing balanced was Oh, borderline miraculous.

Oh, yeah. You know, and, and then, yeah, and, and no one considers. Wow. The size of this thing they built single handedly anyway. Took him a hundred what? A hundred years or something like that? Yeah. Anyway. But you know, it, to me, the thing that I admire the most and all leaders or all people that [00:35:00] have any sort of a voice or at the top of any organ organization, be it big or small, he had an incredible ability to ignore the hitters.

'cause I can only imagine in the middle of the desert, building a boats. Yeah. Yeah. With all this hedonism and debauchery going on around him, they must have ripped on him daily, man. Oh yeah. It somehow, he just kept doing his thing. He was full of faith and ignored the haters. He was, he was, I, you know what's funny when he, I've, do you know what's funny?

When you, there's a song that I remember years ago, I can't remember who it, I want to say it was by this grant band, PFR, but. They sat a song about Noah and the whole thing started out. Noah, Noah, Noah, Noah. Everybody's talking about Jesus. And that's all I re anytime. And that's all I re anytime I, I hear Noah or we're talking about that, it just goes through my head.

So when we were everybody, and so when we were, we were writing the haters, we were talking about that song, ignore the Haters. That song [00:36:00] in my head, I, for a hundred years, every, for a hundred years, everybody's talking about you and just. Obed obedience and faith. That obedience and faith that Noah has to head down, like just, nope, this head down.

Like, Nope, this is what the Lord showed me. Heard him say, this is the last thing I heard him say. So I'm gonna keep doing this until I hear him say something else. You know that. That is, um, faith and obedience. There's a level of faith and obedience that love to get close to. I would love to get close to, I know, I mean, for me as a, it's hard.

I know. I mean, for me as a, it's hard for me personal just to make it personal. Um, it's so easy for me to, it's so easy for me to, of others want not just like. And not just like, there's something to like ignore the opinions. There's something to like ignore the opinion so you can keep head down, you know, just, just focus on what the Lord you giving times.

I won't I, on the other end sometimes I won't want to hear opinions too much. What do you think? I want, I want to hear like, what do you think about this? Well what do you think about, you know, what to be able to like, but to, to be able to like godly, you know, have some godly. [00:37:00] Wisdom, like some influence and all that's good, but also just know that, you know, but to also just know that you know that what the Lord has given you is from him so much so that it doesn't matter what everybody's saying and doesn't matter what people think about you.

And to just keep going and keep down the down the, the path that the Lord's led you. That's it is, and I wanna say this too, because, you know, look, it's wise to seek counsel of people, right? I would say seek counsel of the correct people. Okay. Right, right. Yeah, right. Godly people, leaders would be a good start.

Um, the Bible would be a good start, you know, looking into these folks. But then I wanna say too, because we live in an age where we will say, well, someone will package it. Like, well, I'm just being realistic. I'm a real. Yes. Right. Where so good. Yes. Yeah. Well, I mean, realism with like the Noah story that went out the window, man.

It's like, and that's the challenge, don't you think, for the leader who's got this, let's call him Josh, who's got this song in mind, and [00:38:00] I'm gonna put this thing out there and someone goes, ah, Josh, I'm not so sure about that. Yeah, but you, you know that, you know, yeah. You see that That's where like, yeah, people bring this opinion where sometimes the opinions is largely self-serving for them.

So seeking out the counsel from the right people, I guess is where I'm getting with this. Yes. Well, and some people are speaking out of their own fear. Some people are speaking out out of their own fear. I would never do that because they're like, I would never do that. Me encourage you to, so let me just encourage you to, you know, and it's maybe like think about, you know, and it's, I That's great.

Maybe you wouldn't. I feel like, Lord, I've heard from the Lord and it Yeah, there is the wisdom and, and it, yeah, there is the wisdom and the the, you need to have a relationship with you. You need to have a relationship with the Lord to know when it's. Uh, the Lord is like saying stay, or he is, stay in my word.

Or maybe he is bringing someone to you, pull you to help into the, pull you back right lane, into the right, the right length things, so to speak. But there's so many things that, and my wife, my family, and I, my wife and I, we've made big decisions in our life that didn't make sense and we had a lot [00:39:00] of people, like from North Carolina, no, you, California to join Bethel.

Yeah. You should. Like what do you Yeah, you should. What are you thinking? Your whole family's on the East Coast and we just knew that we knew. We were that this was the Lord and we were supposed to do this. It changed my whole life and it changed my whole life. And I, I just, uh, but I needed my wife. I need, but I needed my wife.

Well, that's wise counsel. Huh? That's wise. Cancel. That's wise counsel. That's wise's. Cancel counsel. Faithful existence. Uh, let's move along. Um, Joshua, the learned leader, and Yes, I, I did do, we did Kyle and I do Joshua before. Um. Before Moses in the, in the series of podcasts and the thing that I loved about Joshua, I remember as a kid, my dad gave me a book, can't remember the author, but the title was, um, living in the Land of Giants.

Being a grass opera in the land of giants. Right. Wow. And something to that effect. Yeah. [00:40:00] And, and the thing about Joshua always was he happened to have this way about him when he was sent on the scouting mission. And this resonated with me where there were 12 scouts. Yeah. Two of them come back with a positive report, Joshua and Caleb.

And the other comeback with bad news. There's giants out there, we look like grasshoppers compared to them. We are never gonna make it. Why do we waste 40 years in the desert? Blah, blah, blah. Moses, you just let us down kind of thing. And it's all doom and gloom. And Joshua and Caleb go, man, the place is loaded with milk and honey.

And we, the grapes look as high as an elephant's eye and we can't wait to get in there. And it's like, it's this mindset, Josh, of, you know, looking at a bad situation, but finding the good. Yeah. And Joshua seemed like he was a master at that. Oh, yes. I, I had, I wrote that down. I was like, I had, I wrote that down.

I was like, I need to be more like Josh, more like my namesake. I, I love that about him and because I love that about him and because it's so easy. I know for me, I'm the person in my marriage. [00:41:00] I'm this person in my marriage, I'm this person and I'm, here's, like, I look at, I'm the one that, like, I look at all the things.

I'm like, well, here's all the things that could happen, you know, not good. Like, let's, let's. I don't know if I wanna do this because, and I list the, all the, you know, the bad things or the things that are not great. And my wife's like, no, but look, here's the good, here's the good in this, here's, and I, um, I see his story.

I would've, man, probably been one of the 10 would who came back, would've probably been one of the 10 who came back. These guys are huge. Listen, these guys are huge. And there's a lot of them. And that wall's massive. Like comes back and he's just like, comes back like, we can do this. The land that the Lord's given, this is the land that the Lord's given us look like to these other guys.

And it might not look like it to these other guys. And I love too that, um, and I love too that. I remember growing up probably, this is probably my favorite, and this is probably, this was probably my favorite scripture because his name was Joe. So yours is not a stage name. This is your, your name. Is that cool?

This is your real name. No, this is my real name. I'm Joe. It's that cool. All right. Uh, I [00:42:00] remember like. I remember like for years of my favorite scripts where it was like Joshua one, nine strong and courageous, have I not commanded be strong and courageous? I think it was even just that because, and I think it was even just that because it was like, that's a cool verse and it's in Joshua's.

I'm just gonna tell people that. Then, uh, growing up and reading, but then, uh, growing up and reading, I'm like, man, the Lord is just throughout that whole book, uh, that book and just, it's, it is just encouraging and, and like telling him, be strong, be strong, be strong and courageous, and. Uh, you know, we're go that we're going because, you know, we're go that we're going into this land, we're taking this land where it's so easy to look into what you're, where you're going and see reasons to not be courageous or reasons to run.

Yeah. Reasons to fear. And so he's just like constantly getting reminded by the Lord. No, be strong. I've com Here's why. Here's why I'm giving you the strength. 'cause you're gonna, I love that Bible verse. I wrestle with it. 'cause here's the reality. You know what I've realized at 54 years and hang on. Not hanging on thriving.

I'm [00:43:00] gonna speak in faith. Okay? If I'm praying to be strong and courageous, I'm gonna get put in more and more situations where I have to be strong and courageous. 'cause it, it's not like you get this heavenly helping of strength and courageous. Yes, yes. God saying not so true. Not going. Whew. Yeah. There's you helping of strong and courageous.

It's like you go be strong and courageous and I'm like, yeah, if you sign up for this yeah. You, you're gonna face some turbulent orders. Yeah. But you were made for more and you can handle it. Totally, totally. Yes. Speaking of, yes, that's the other side of that. If that's the other side of that, if when you're getting told there's probably a reason, be strong, there's probably a reason that you need to be strong.

It's like, it's like you go, like I live in the south, like you do and you go to the houses and we've got all got bible verses in our walls, you know? And like, like as for my house, we'll follow the Lord. You know, we've got that in the, this is my wife and be strong and courageous. Yeah. I'm like, yeah. So we all got it and it makes this cool wall hanging, but as an attitude [00:44:00] as a leader, right.

Uh, to, to be strong and courageous is kind of nitty. It's, it's getting down and dirty. It's the nitty gritty of it all. It's, it's, it is, it is. Right. It really is. The Bible verses when it comes to Moses. I dunno about you. I dunno if you as the musician have tattoos. I don't, you know what? I don't. You know what?

I don't. I don't, and I, everyone is shocked to know that I don't have Your wife is, she's got the coolest tattoo in her arm. I saw that. All over her arms. She's got, if I had a tattoo, Josh, it would be on my right wrist over here. Right there. Yeah. 'cause when I hold a microphone, when I'm announcing on courses with my right hand, and so it'd be on the inside of my wrist and it would say X exodus four 10 through 12.

And I'm gonna read that to you. And this is, okay, the thing about Moses, okay, that rarely speaks to my soul. 'cause now Moses is called by God. He wasn't qualified, he was called, he was made for more. [00:45:00] He didn't realize it. Yeah. Okay. Um, yeah. And so God says to him, remove his shoes. You're standing on holy ground.

It's the burning bush. And Moses is like, okay, yo, here I am Lord. And he goes, right, you are gonna lead my people outta slavery in Egypt. And Moses immediately, immediately goes, Humie, uh, no. And then it goes, verse 10, Exodus four, Moses says to the Lord, this is the NIV. Pardon your servant. Lord says, Lisa's polite.

I have never been eloquent, neither in the past, nor since you have spoke, spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue. Now, me, I tend to get excited and stutter when I go too fast, right? And I don't breathe like a good singer would. Yeah. Then in verse 11, the Lord says right back to him who gave human beings their mouths.

Who makes them deaf or mute, who gives them sight or makes them blind. It [00:46:00] is not I the Lord now go and I will help you speak and teach you what to say. Now that little group of verses there, that's so the sort of bin the, the anchor to my entire broadcasting career, whether it's podcasting or television or radio or whatever it is, where.

Every, every time I, I like to say, every time before I go on the air, I'm like, all right, Lord, you made my mouth. Give me the words. I'm gonna make myself available. Kind of just like Moses. Now, again, I'm not trying to seem like I'm all big time over here, but as far as Moses went, yeah, there was this, I don't know, obedience about him.

Yeah. Once he got the marching orders and God said, off you go. He stuck. He, he dug his heels in and said, nah, I can't still. And he said, well, the Lord goes, I'll send Aaron with you. Right. But still, he's a guy that was so obedient through all those euros in the, in the desert, [00:47:00] in the valley experience. But you know, he, where he turns around and the Lord goes, I made your mouth go and speak and now to a singer that, that is, it's real for you.

Yeah, it is. Yeah, it is. That's so good. I'm gonna make that my first tattoo. I'm gonna make that my first tattoo. Let's get 'em together. Let's, let's get 'em to get my, but you can see it when you're playing a guitar. That's okay. I know, I know. I'm trying to, I know, I know. I'm trying to think of, to go on. I, um, I resonate so much with, yeah.

I resonate so much with Moses in this, and I think so many of us can, is that, you know, it goes back to this, the, you know, it goes back to this, the thing I've heard. A life all through a pastor, a life. My dad's a pastor and I've heard so many other pastors say like, God doesn't call the qualified, uh, call the qualified.

He qualifies the called, I mean, Moses, and I mean Moses is, is the reason that that's even probably the reason that that's even a thing that we even say that. I mean, he's like the ultimate, I can't do this. I'm not, I'm not a [00:48:00] speaker. You know, bring Aaron all these things. I bring Aaron, do all these things and then look what he does, he does, and he delivers the whole other people out.

And, um, I think there's so many times in my life where I'm, I'm feeling the same like, Lord, I'm, I don't feel like qualified to do this. I don't feel qualified to do this. I don't, I remember, uh, I, I remember I've talked to my wife just recently, a couple weeks ago. I was like about to go lead worship event and at this event, and it was a big thing and I was like, babe, I feel like, I just don't feel like I'm like.

Like qualified to do this or I, I, I can't, how do I say it? I feel like I forgot how to do this in some cases. It's so funny is what I said. Funny. I've done that a lot. It's so funny. I mean, I've like, I've done that a lot this year. I mean, I've, like, I've led worship in the last, it's not like I haven't listened in the last, last two years, and then all of a sudden I'm like, probably week, a week.

It was probably just week, a week before that. And I just, like, I was having this moment where I just, I don't feel like I even remember how to do, you know, all [00:49:00] this. And, and it's, you know, my wife is like, just. We sit down and she's obviously just speaking the promise of the Lord. Like, remember who you are.

You know, you wrote a song about, it's just funny. You wrote a, you wrote a song about this. Go back and read that song. Go back and read that song. But, um, I, I, I just love how faithful the Lord is and how funny the Lord is too. I'm gonna go, Moses. Yeah. I'm gonna go grab Moses. Who doesn't think he's good at speaking, who doesn't think he's good at this, and I'm gonna use him to, to pull people out and again, show we talked about with Gideon.

Sure the Lord like show, it shows up in our weakness and, uh, it is strong. Not just takes, it just takes the, it's so beautiful. Israel, Egypt to Israel. Take on the most powerful man in the universe in Pharaoh at that stage. Yeah. Right. Countless times. Yeah. And just stand and have the ability, ability and just stand and have the ability he didn't think he could do to do the thing that he didn't think he could do up and stand up and speak, and, and strong [00:50:00] mighty man of God, a strong mighty man of God.

It's. It's such a good ver I mean, I, yeah, it's such a good ver I mean, I, I just keep thinking about what you just read and that's like, okay, wow. I need that. I need to this four, 10 through 12. All right. I've kept you for a very long time, so we need to sign off and I'm gonna give you the final statement.

Oh, wow. This has been, um, very wise, man wrote this where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom now. Yeah, I heard that song a number of times and a number of times, and it didn't settle until one day. It's hit me in my middle of my forehead. And that is freedom from everything disease. Yeah. But to me, more than anything else, freedom of the bat, freedom from the battles we have in our inside of our mind.

Yeah. So sign us off with some insight from that lyric, from uh, from that song of yours, please. Well, I, I, I love that you said Well, I, I, I love that you said that because, um, I think growing up even in church, I think growing up, even in church and leading [00:51:00] worship, I, I heard that verse in scripture in context of like, freedom and worship, where the spirit of the Lord is, there's freedom in worship.

And which it's true when we were writing that song, but I, when we were writing that song. I really thought about that. Like not just, I really thought about that. Like not just that, no, I need freedom. People need freedom and, uh, they need, and they need healing. They need breakthrough and deliverance through past, you know, their past, uh, past mistakes.

They need freedom in. Um. Stronghold. We put that line in there. Stronghold. We put that line in there too. Like every strong. And I love that you say every stronghold has to break, has to Yeah. It has to. Yes. It has no option. Yes, it has no option. Fear has no option. Like fear has no option but to leave when the love of the Lord uh, draws near.

And that's what that, so yeah, I think that's what that, that lyric and that song was to me was saying, this isn't just about like actually worshiping whole life, but it's actually in our whole life, in every part of our life. That [00:52:00] when we invite the Lord in, he brings freedom. And where he is, there's liberty.

And um, well that's what he wants and that's what, that's what he wants. That's why he wants to be close to us. 'cause he wants a relationship with us, but he also wants us to be free from the things that are holding us back and keeping us from him. And, uh. Yeah, that song's been such a great reminder. Uh, love You brother.

Okay, here's Josh Baldwin. Um, we've been talking about, made for more of the song. Uh, there's another one Evidence. I see the evidence of Your Goodness all Over my life if you choose to look at that thing again, that's a mindset shift. And of course where the spirit of the Lord is, Lord is I think the name of the song is Freedom.

Um, tell folks there's freedom. Tell folks there is freedom where they can find you, Josh, if they've been sleeping under a rock, where do they get the music? Where's the social media and such, please? Uh, you can, I mean, I'm on Instagram. You can, I mean, I'm on Instagram, like probably everyone else, probably. I just, Josh Baldwin, uh, there's josh baldwin.com.

I'm on. [00:53:00] Yeah, everywhere you listen to music, you could probably even find my music for free out there if you look hard. And I actually have, have, and I actually have coming out, I have new music coming, us coming out. Can you I have, I, um, yeah, I can, I have a, I have a song. Yeah, I can, it's actually, I have a song.

It's actually EP recorded a that I just recorded a month ago. Five songs kind of like, of, uh, just kind of like storyteller songs about the lord, about Jesus. They weren't necessarily in the, they weren't necessarily in the vein of like, I can lead these on a Sunday morning and worship. And they weren't necessarily down the other lane.

Like, uh, Christian Radio is gonna necessarily play them. Maybe they would. Yeah. Come on Caleb Radio, if you're listening. Yeah. Come on Caleb. Come on Caleb. Yeah. Come on Caleb. I, but, uh, they were just, I, they were just these songs that I felt like, they sound like, um, I'm from North Carolina and they sound like Carolina writing songs.

A guy from North Carolina writing songs about Jesus. And, um, I've just been so pumped to, to record 'em. I've been sitting on some of them for five years. [00:54:00] Uh, and um, they're coming out in September, September 5th, and the first single, it's called Salvation Song. It comes out August 1st, but, um, pumped. It's just actually the whole album is called, it's called, actually the whole album is called Full Grown Man, which is a song that I wrote about Jesus, which is a song that I wrote about Jesus and how he's, uh, old soul.

He's a full grown man. He's an old soul. He's a full grown man at a real young age. And, uh, it was, and more of a down the line of the con and more of a down the line of the conversations that we've been having here just about people in the Bible. And I love writing about characters. Well, I am thrilled that you would come and tell people about that on this little show that's growing.

Um, this was in 2025. If you are listening down the track some. So go and search for Josh. Um, Josh. Man, thank you. Uh, having you on was honestly the thrill of a lifetime. Thank you so much. Getting to unpack this stuff with a kindred spirit was a lot of fun, so I appreciate you. Thank you. This is such an honor.
