EP #84: Brush Strokes of Success: How Three Women Built a Thriving Paint Company
What makes Tanya Garduno with Color2Color Painting, Co. a good neighbor?
Meet Tanya Garduno, co-owner of Color2Color Painting, Co., who's revolutionizing the Colorado Springs painting industry alongside her sister and mother. This dynamic trio of Colorado natives brings decades of combined expertise to each project, offering exceptional painting services with a woman-owned perspective that stands out in their field.
Tired of staring at faded walls or frustrated by DIY painting attempts gone wrong? Tanya understands these challenges intimately. Colorado's harsh weather conditions are particularly brutal on exterior paint, with north-facing walls often fading dramatically compared to the rest of the house. Color2 Color specializes in restoring these weather-beaten homes to their former glory while staying current with industry innovations like self-cleaning paints that weren't available just a few years ago.
What truly distinguishes Color2Color is their expansion beyond traditional painting services. They've diversified to include epoxy countertops and flooring, providing homeowners with comprehensive customization options under one roof. Tanya's background in corporate IT, where she weathered numerous layoffs over 20-30 years, fueled her passion for entrepreneurship and creating a stable, family-owned business where quality and customer satisfaction drive every decision. This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Tony Hills.
Speaker 2:Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a great residential and commercial paint company? One might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing our good neighbor, tanya Carduno with Color to Color Painting Company. Tanya, how's it going?
Speaker 3:Not too bad thanks. How are you doing today, tony?
Speaker 2:Awesome, awesome. Hey, we're excited to learn about your business, so tell us about your company.
Speaker 3:I work for and I own Color to Color Painting here in Colorado Springs. We are a women-owned painting company, so that's a little bit unique about us, but we've been in business here in Colorado Springs for about three years and we are ready to paint your house.
Speaker 2:Okay, awesome. How did you get into this business?
Speaker 3:Actually it's kind of a long story. I'm in business with my sister and my mother and each of us came from working with actually different paint companies, and each of us came from working with actually different paint companies. So we kind of learned the business from a administrative standpoint and some from a painting standpoint, and then realized that we had enough expertise and enough know-how that we could start our own company. So we came together and three years ago we started Color to Color.
Speaker 2:That's great. That's awesome. What are some myths or misconceptions about your in your industry?
Speaker 3:A lot of folks think that painting never changes. You know, you're just slap paint on the wall and you're good to go. They really don't understand some of the complexities that go into painting and also some of the developments that happen. I mean, they've got paint these days that you can just you know when it rains it washes the house. Now you know that wasn't available two years ago. So there are, you know, a lot of innovations that happen that I don't think people realize are going on in the industry.
Speaker 2:Okay, awesome. Who are your target customers and how do you attract them?
Speaker 3:Our target customers are anyone who wants to really beautify their house. We want people who are tired of looking at their interior. We want people who try to do their DIY on their own and went oh my goodness, you know, I didn't realize how difficult this was. We want folks who, in Colorado you know, as you know, there are. The weather is just dreadful on exterior paint, so we want you guys to give us a call and let us help fix that the north side of your house that's now faded completely and doesn't match the rest of it. So those are the folks that we're wanting to get a hold of Homeowners who are ready for their change or their upgrade.
Speaker 2:Okay, outside of work, what do you do for fun?
Speaker 3:I enjoy swimming actually, so I get in the pool and I swim. My goal is at least 25 miles a month, so that's where I do my thinking.
Speaker 2:That's great. That's great. Let's switch gears. Can you describe a hardship, a life challenge that you had to overcome, um, how it made you stronger and what comes to mind?
Speaker 3:Well, I come from um, a corporate background, so I have history with a lot of your big companies who are famous for your yearly layoffs.
Speaker 3:So, uh, you know I've I've been through the cycle a dozen times of the layoff, and so that's one of the reasons that I decided to, you know, get into a partnership with my family and start this company, because that is a hardship that is difficult to try and overcome over and over again and unfortunately in the corporate world it's, you know, a necessary evil. Each year, when you know they're going through budgets and all that kind of thing, the bigger corporations, there's natural attrition and if there's not enough of that, then you know they do a workflow or workforce layoff and unfortunately, in you know 20, 30 years and being in IT, I went through a few of those and you know those are things that you learn from and I learned I don't like them. So you know, being in my own company, at least I have a little bit of control. If things don't go well, it's my own fault and it's not just because I was a number of you know 13% that needed to be cut or whatever.
Speaker 2:Okay, tanya, please tell us one thing that you remember about Color to Color Painting Company.
Speaker 3:That we are a woman-owned company. We love that. We are also Colorado Springs natives, so we've been here for a long time. I know the environment, I know the neighborhoods. We are ready to put that extra level of detail into your pink project. We also do epoxy countertops and epoxy flooring. So if you want to go that extra level of customization, we've got that available to you as well. So those are just a couple of things that we bring to the table that maybe you haven't seen before in a paint company.
