EP #89: Beyond the Gym: How Neuromotor Training is Revolutionizing Recovery for Chronic Disease Patients
What makes Oliver Eehn with Optimum Fitness Systems a good neighbor?
Chronic disease and injury sufferers take note—relief might be closer than you think. In this revealing conversation with Oliver Eehn, founder of Optimum Fitness Systems, we uncover groundbreaking approaches to physical rehabilitation that conventional medicine often overlooks.
After 30 years in the fitness industry, Oliver brings a wealth of experience that began with his natural hyperactivity as a child. Channeling that energy into athletic pursuits eventually led him to discover the transformative power of strength training. But unlike many fitness professionals focused solely on aesthetic results, Oliver has pioneered neuromotor training techniques that address the root causes of chronic conditions.
The science is compelling: Oliver explains how specialized movement patterns can actually reverse damage to the nervous system—delivering hope to those suffering from Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other neurological conditions. "We know now that through neuromotor training, we can not only slow down the effects of disease but even reverse it," he shares. His approach systematically rebuilds neural pathways that control our body's functions, offering results where traditional treatments have fallen short.
Perhaps most impressive is Oliver's specialized back care program, developed through years of working with injury recovery patients. Recognizing that back injuries represent the most common physical complaint in America, he invented specialized equipment targeting the erector muscles of the lower back—what he calls "the weak link" in most back problems. This innovation exemplifies what makes Optimum Fitness Systems unique: targeted, science-based interventions rather than generic exercise prescriptions.

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Tony Hills.
Speaker 2:Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you looking for a chronic disease or injury recovery? Help might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing our good neighbor Oliver Ene with Optimum Fitness Systems. Oliver, how's it going?
Speaker 3:Wow, wow, staying very busy. So, yes, I am doing well and helping people just live lives that they dream.
Speaker 2:That's awesome. We are excited to learn about your business. Tell us about it, what it is that you do.
Speaker 3:Okay, yeah Well, optima Fitness Systems has been. Okay, yeah, well, optima Fitness Systems has been as Optima Fitness Systems. That is over 16 years now, and then, prior to that, I've actually operated like a franchise personal training studio as well as owning small health clubs before that. So in 30 years of business, yes, I've worn many different hats and had many different titles.
Speaker 2:Okay, how did you get into this business?
Speaker 3:Well, as a child growing up, I was always hyper and sometimes getting myself in a lot of trouble because of that, and so it just made sense to use that energy for athletic endeavors, and football being my main sport, just something that I always endeavored to get good at, and while I didn't necessarily get good at playing football, weight training was a big part of that, of course, and then so that became a big part of just, uh, what I just enjoyed and loved doing, and so, as well as getting into the body building, power lifting scene back in the days of, you know, arnold and his pumping iron friends, and so that was just kind of what always inspired me to just kind of fall in love with the iron game, as they say. And so even into my old age now, yes, I still love pumping those heavy weights, okay.
Speaker 2:What are some myths or misconceptions in your industry?
Speaker 3:Oh boy, where do we begin? Yeah, you know, first of all, with all the. To this day, you see all these infomercials's. Yeah, you know, first of all, with all the uh. To this day, you see all these infomercials about you know this and that you know how you could just take this, take this fat burner, and then have steel.
Speaker 3:Uh, you know six-pack steel labs like okay, and then, and then, as well as just some of the, even within some of the scientific communities, is how we've come to better understand and then, but a lot of the myths you still hear. It's like okay, you know, calories in versus calories out. If you were to just simply consume less calories, then you expand, then you'll lose weight. It's like, and we know it's much more complicated than that. So a lot of times help clear that up over the years, like you know, women who thought that maybe they shouldn't lift weights because, you know they didn't want to be overly masculine. And of course, we know now that it's like OK, ladies, you need to lift weights too, you know. So, yeah, as well as a lot of the food diet in this as well.
Speaker 2:So, ok, awesome. Who are your target customers and how do you attract them?
Speaker 3:Well, as we said in our introductions, like those who are suffering like from some form of chronic disease, like whether they have like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease which covers the realm of both neurologic as well as psychiatric diseases and due to damage to what they call our nervous system, which basically controls, you know everything that now we tell our bodies to do, and so when that gets damaged now, it's my job then to help restore that. And we know now that, through a technique called neuromotor training, that not only can we slow down the effects of disease but even reverse it, and then, as well as injury, recovery, but even reverse it and then, as well as injury recovery.
Speaker 2:Okay, awesome, you did mention a little bit back in the day you got into bodybuilding. So outside of work, what do you do for fun?
Speaker 3:Oh, just like, still like, as the weather's warming up, I like to get outdoors and do some biking and hiking and, of course, while we still have some snow on the ski mountains, I'll get out there on the ski slopes and I'd like to hit some of the black runs as well.
Speaker 2:Okay, awesome, let's switch gears. Can you describe a hardship, a life challenge you overcame, how it made you stronger and what comes to mind?
Speaker 3:That's right. Well, for me, a lot of it was just, I would say, I have to admit business failures because, for a lot of entrepreneurs will tell you that to really succeed in business like you are gonna hit challenging times. And, as I've always shared, then, as well as just kind of knowing a lot of folks who have those who have achieved some of the greatest success, when you hear their stories they will tell you that they also overcame some of the greatest challenges. For myself personally, yes, I had to close not one but two of my businesses and which you can imagine the financial hardship that would come along with that. But I just learned how to then repurpose myself thereafter and then just continue to just press forward. And here I am 30 years in business and still going.
Speaker 2:That's awesome. Awesome, Oliver. Please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about Optimum Fitness Systems Awesome.
Speaker 3:Oliver, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about Optimum Fitness Systems. Well, optimum Fitness Systems definitely would set itself apart by, as we mentioned, that we do a lot of our focus on chronic disease recovery, as well as injury recovery, and specifically being that back injuries are the most common injuries that are out there and that I deal with. I have specifically designed a preventative back care program called the OFS Preventative Back Care Program, which also involves an invention of mine, specifically that targets the erector muscles of the low back, which is believed to be the weak link when it comes to, like, back injuries and such and so we strengthen that and with the clients clients that I've worked with who've now gone through this it's, it is, it is work wonders.
Speaker 3:OK, ok, awesome. How come I was just gladly give them my office number here at 719-576-2256, 576-2256. And as well as just reaching me through email at OFS at OptimumFitnessCOcom so that's OFS at OptimumFitnesscocom, so that's OFS at optimumfitnesscocom, as well as just you can also connect through the website there which corresponds to that optimumfitnesscocom.
Speaker 2:Okay, well, oliver, I really appreciate you being on the show. We wish you and your business much success moving forward.
