EP #104: From Grandmother's Care to Caring for Others: Amanda Harris Shares Her Journey

Tony Hills & Amanda Harris Episode 104

What makes Amanda Harris with Garden Ranch a good neighbor?

The search for quality assisted living or home care for your loved ones can feel overwhelming, but as Amanda Harris of Garden Ranch explains, help might be closer than you think. Amanda shares her deeply personal journey into caregiving, which began with tending to her beloved grandmother during her final days. This experience didn't just change her life—it revealed her true calling in bold, capital letters.

What sets Garden Ranch apart from typical assisted living facilities is their intimate, residential approach. Forget the sterile, institutional environments you might imagine. With fewer than ten residents in their home-like setting, Garden Ranch offers personalized care that larger facilities simply cannot match. "We're pretty much like a home away from home," Amanda explains, challenging the misconception that all assisted living options are created equal.

As a family-owned and operated business, Garden Ranch enjoys the freedom to tailor their services to each individual's unique needs. Whether you're looking for residential care or in-home assistance, they accommodate clients of all ages who need help with daily activities or simply desire companionship. Without corporate mandates dictating their approach, they create truly personalized experiences for everyone in their care. Located near Montebello and Academy in Colorado Springs, Garden Ranch welcomes visitors to experience their difference firsthand. Discover how this small, passionate team is redefining assisted living one relationship at a time, and see why their client families become their most enthusiastic advocates.

Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Tony Hills.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you looking for help with assisted living or home care? Help might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing our good neighbor, Amanda Harris, with Garden Ranch. Amanda, how's it going?

Speaker 3:

Going good sir. How are you today?

Speaker 2:

I am great, we're excited to have you on the show and learn about your business. So tell us about your company.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I'm excited to be here, so thank you so much. I am with Garden Ranch and we do assisted living, so we have an assisted living facility with in-house residents assisted living so we have an assisted living facility with in-house residents, and we also provide in-home care for those of our clients that need to be in-home and still require a level of assistance at home.

Speaker 2:

Okay, that's awesome. How did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

So I got into this business taking care of my sweet, sweet grandmother. So taking care of her and being her caregiver towards the end of her life journey really just made it in capital letters for me that this was my passion and I am here to take care of people. So that's why I got into this business and I truly, truly love it.

Speaker 2:

Awesome. What are some myths or misconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 3:

The biggest myth or misconception that we face as a residential assisted living facility is when you think assisted living facility or nursing home, you think they're all the same and they're big facilities where there's a ton of residents or a group of people, and so we're pretty unique. We are in a residential setting, so pretty much like a home away from home. We're very small. We have less than 10 residents in the home and so they get a lot more one on one care than you would first imagine when you think of an assisted living facility.

Speaker 2:

OK, who are your target customers and how do you attract them?

Speaker 3:

So we don't put age limits on our residents or clients. We are here to provide services to anybody who may need assistance with activities of daily living or who may just require, you know, needing a ear or somebody to be a companion with them, spend some time with them. So that's who we definitely is our target audience. As far as attracting them a lot, since we're a smaller facility and a smaller in-home care a lot of the way that we attract people is by word of mouth. So a lot of our residents that have been here they talk to their co-workers, families, stuff like that and then we appear on things like Good Neighbor Podcast.

Speaker 2:

That's awesome. So, outside of work, what do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Oh, anything outdoors. Love going hiking Lots of places in Colorado Springs that are beautiful. Going hiking lots of places in Colorado Springs that are beautiful. Favorite has got to be Southern Bridges. So anything outdoor, though, gets us outside, gets us some sunshine and resets for us to be able to take care of everybody in our care.

Speaker 2:

Okay, all right. Amanda, please tell us one thing you should remember about Garden Ranch.

Speaker 3:

The one thing you should remember about us is that we can provide assistance to your loved ones on any level, that they require it or you desire it. We're willing to work with anybody and we are family owned and operated, so we don't have, you know, corporate America telling us what we have to do or anything like that, so we can truly personalize everybody's experience and make sure that we touch everybody's life in a unique way.
