We are switching it up with these new Friday episodes!
I will be walking through all 78 cards in the Tarot and doing a deep dive into the meaning of each card, covering all aspects including career, relationships/friendships/family, love and money.
This week we are coving the Magician card.
Hello, hello, and welcome back to the show. This is Sarah. I'm your host, and this is Stopstart Continue, your weekly tarot card reading, typically, but this episode and all of our Friday episodes are now actually deep dives into the different cards in the tarot deck. So on Fridays, I go through and I do a deep exploration and explanation of one out of the 78 cards in the tarot deck. So I definitely have my work cut out for me. We're gonna have plenty of weeks of talking about cards. We have many, many more to go. I started last week. So if you haven't listened to last week's deep dive on the Fool Tarot card, which is often considered the first card in the tarot deck, definitely go do that. Um, you can really just kind of listen to these cards in order. Um, I do drop these on Fridays, so Mondays I drop our weekly tarot card reading, and then Fridays we do the deep dive. So if you're not subscribed already, definitely subscribe because it will notify you when these episodes are released. A little background. So today we are talking about the magician tarot card. So last week we talked about the fool, and next in the order of the deck is the magician. And so just a little background about tarot, if you are not too familiar, and this is something that I will eventually probably do podcast episode on as well, is kind of like how the tarot deck is structured, um, how the system of tarot works. But just for what you need to know today, for you to have a little bit of a better understanding of the magician card and kind of where it falls in the deck. So there's two different parts to the tarot deck. There's the major arcana and there's the minor arcana. So where we are right now, what we're going through is the major arcana. This is also sometimes sometimes referred to as the fool's journey. So we talked about the fool card last week. Now we're talking about the first stop on the journey, which is the magician. So interestingly enough, the magician is actually labeled as number one. So the fool card gets the number zero notated with it. So there are 22 cards in the major arcana portion of the tarot deck. And these can be seen or understood as major themes or chapters in somebody's life. In the fool card is labeled as number zero because the fool is really the one going along the journey. This can often be seen as you being placed on a journey through life where you are going to make all of these different stops along the way with all of these different themes and archetypes. So we get to the magician, and the magician is actually indicative of the first stop on the journey, aka number one. The minor arcana, just a little side note, the minor arcana is where we start to talk about the different suits. So wands, pentacles, swords, cups. So that we will get to later. I was gonna say I could I could go into like a whole thing about that now, but we're not going to. We're gonna focus on where we are right now, which is the major arcana, and that we are on the first step of that journey. So the fool has started out, and if you did not listen to the episode last week, I would definitely recommend that you do that. I went through the Fool Tarot card last week. And really, I think the biggest thing that you need to know as far as it relating to the magician, this card that we're talking about today, number one in the tarot deck, is that the fool card is not, I never would consider it a new chapter in someone's life when they pull this card. For me, it is like a completely new book. It is a new story, it is a new timeline. This is very much a complete blank slate, fresh start, like talk about, you know, packing up your house, moving to a different state, starting a new job, like getting divorced. Like it is, it is a very, very significant change. And so just keeping that in mind, you know, this is really where we're going um from an angle of we have just kind of gotten to a place in life where we are at a fresh start point, where we are, you know, kind of in a completely again, I wouldn't even say like new stage. This really is very much a new journey, a new storyline. And then we get to the magician. And the magician is number one, as I've said a couple times, I think already. But the magician is a card that really reminds us of everything that we have available to us. Everything that we have in our back pocket to bring forth into whatever we are trying to do, whatever we are trying to create, whatever we hope to have. The magician reminds us of our ability, of our capability. Just because of the fact that we are humans. And first off, as humans, we are miraculous creatures, right? We are powerful creatures. Whether that be, you know, a negative connotation, a positive connotation, all of the above. We cannot deny that we hold a ton of power as human beings. And so this card is a reminder of that, of our intelligence, of our emotional awareness, of our spirit, of our soul, of our connection. There's so much here. And in fact, something that I want to just talk about really quickly that with the magician is with basically any magician card that I have ever seen in any tarot deck that I've ever looked at. And I've looked at a lot of tarot decks. And by the way, I will be putting um quite a few examples of this card on my website. So I will link that in the show notes. You can go look and have some visuals of this card. I think it really does help you learn as you're, you know, starting to get to know more about the deck. I think the the imagery is everything. And I would highly recommend getting a deck if you do not have one already, if you're hoping to learn more. Um, but yeah, the magician on any single magician card that I have ever seen, there is always indicated all four suits of the tarot. So all four elements of life are on every single magician card I have ever seen. And those four elements or those four suits are pentacles, cups, swords, and wands. So the elements that go with those, pentacles is earth, cups is water, wands is fire, and swords is air. So this is a reminder of kind of just like the completeness or the wholeness that we have as humans, and again, all of the parts of us that can come together and can be utilized to create whatever we desire. I don't get this card very often when I am doing readings. I will be honest, you know, I know that's something that you might hear a lot of tarot readers say it's kind of like makes things seem, you know, more like ominous or whatever, but it it really is a card that I very don't get this card very frequently. And so when I do, it really drives home that point of going back to the core realization of everything you have gone through up until this point, everything that you have learned, everything that you have experienced, and the wisdom that inevitably comes from going through this life. And also just even before, right, we have gone through our arduous journey of life, we were just born with so much power. Again, the emotion, the ability emotionally connect, the ability to learn on such a high intelligence level. I mean, just think about a child and how rapidly they improve and and grow and learn. It's it's truly miraculous. I think that's why we're so in awe of children, is because of how quickly they're kind of advancing through this hyperintelligence that we have as humans. And so the mag the magician reminds you of that, reminds you of that wisdom, reminds you of that intelligence, but also reminds you of that spiritual and emotional connection. It shows you that all of those things have to work together in order to create whatever you're trying to create. And I think that's another really beautiful reminder with this card, too, is that, you know, we we can't have one thing without the other. This, whatever we're trying to do, whatever we're trying to create, it cannot be all logic. It cannot also not be all emotion or vibes or, you know, going with the flow. It's it's it's all of the elements of us. It's our fieriness, it's our ability to stay grounded and calm. It's our ability to be flexible, it's our ability to go with the flow, right? Like there's just so much here that we really just have to remember that if we have done things before, we can do them again. And it's also a reminder of all of the things that you have gone through and all of the things that you have done in the past. So I've already talked for like 10 minutes. I do want to say really quickly that I because I don't think I mentioned this at the beginning. Um, this is something, so this series that I'm doing, there's 78 cards. So I'm gonna be doing this for a long time. And every Friday it will be releasing episodes where I do a deep dive into the cards. I may have already mentioned this. I'm so sorry if I did. But I just wanted to make sure you knew because if you're wanting to learn the tarot, this is a great resource for you. We're gonna really dive deep into each of these cards and what these cards mean in different aspects of life, like career, love, relationships. So definitely subscribe to the podcast if you haven't already, because you'll be notified when these episodes drop and you'll be able to listen. Okay, so as I said, we're gonna talk about the different aspects here. I like to go over kind of like four main categories, and that's finances, career, romantic love, and then relationships. So friendships, family, community, connection. All right, so let's talk about the magician in relation to your finances. So I think the magician comes up in matters of finances when we are at a little bit of a do or die spot, a little bit of uh, I'm just gonna say it, a little bit of a desperate spot. I don't think we love to admit being at a desperate spot with money, but we've all been there. Or we've just been at that moment where it really does feel like do or die. It really does feel like I have to figure this out. I have got to get myself out of this situation. And sometimes it feels really desperate. I mean, I think a lot of times it can feel um, you know, money is is really one of the most triggering things, I think, for a lot of people. It is so much tied to our security. And again, the magician reminds us that, yes, the the element of pentacles, which is very, very deeply related to money, is a huge part of who we are as a person. The magician, I think, is a signal when it comes to finances of your ability to be inventive, to be creative, to push through when you're feeling like I don't know what I'm gonna do. It's kind of this a little bit of an adrenaline kind of element. And yes, is this something that is sustainable and something that you know we want to only rely on this big push of you know, getting through whatever financial issue we're having? No. However, the magician shows the ability to figure things out, to problem solve, to call in different parts of your life to figure this out. And then as we continue through the major arcana, that's when we start to reevaluate our relationship with money, when we start to get a little bit more organized with our money, right? So that's the rest of the tarot kind of helps us get this on a little bit more of a sustainable track. The magician is very much a scrappy kind of energy. But it can also be, I mean, to me, scrappy's not bad, right? Being able to like figure things out in a pressing situation is actually, I think, a huge confidence boost. It's saying to you, you can do this, you have figured this out before, you can figure this out again. But then I think there's always an after conversation with the magician. Like, I never would want to leave this part out if I pulled the magician card for somebody. Is like, let's figure out how to get through this and figure this out. Let's problem solve this in the moment, but let's also have a little after conversation where we go, okay, what happened here? And how do we make sure that this doesn't happen again? How do we learn from what we just experienced? And sometimes history repeats itself, and we really need to go, okay, this tends to be a pattern for me. How do I figure this out? And then so it even makes sense because number two, so the magician is number one, and then number two is the high priestess. And the high priestess is kind of like inner wisdom, intuition, um, more of like a deeper connection with self. And so I think it's really appropriate that that card comes next because that is really the after effect of the magician. The magician figures it out, makes it happen, works literal magic. This is like one of those moments where you're like, I shocked myself. I can't believe I just pulled that off. Like I was really scared there for a second. But then the high priestess is like, okay, we need to figure out what's going on here. Why do you keep getting yourself into these situations? So when we're specifically talking about the magician, I want it to be always, always, always an empowering card. You know, I do talk a lot about, I'm a big believer that, you know, there's not really cards that are either wholly negative or wholly positive, right? And what I mean by that is I I think a lot of people just want to put like a negative or positive connotation on a card. I mean, people even say to me when I'm giving readings, like, is this a bad card or is this a good card? And I'm like, it doesn't really work like that because it just depends on the situation. It depends on what we're asking the cards, it depends on the spread that we're using, kind of what this is indicating. But I would say the magician at its core is a very, it is definitely a card of empowerment. It is a it is a reminder of everything that you have accomplished up until this very second in your life. And it is reminding you of all of those things and asking you to go back into the depths, into the archives of your life and be able to extract that wisdom, those past experiences, whatever it might be, to figure out your current situation. I also want to say that the magician, and this real this relates to every aspect of life, but with money particularly, the magician reminds you that you know you have resources. You have people that you could ask. Hey, do you know of any job openings? Um, you have skill sets that you can use to make money. You have ways in the past that you've made money. You maybe have little savings accounts that you don't typically touch, but hey, you did you started that savings account with this situation in mind, right? Or like maybe you forgot about a payout that you had and you can inquire about that. Like there's so many different things that you have available to you. The magician also invites you to think outside of the box, especially when it comes to money. I would say the magician is here specifically with money. It's a little bit scrappy, it's a little bit innovative, but again, I really want to be clear. Like when I say scrappy, I mean that in a good way. It is like that core ability to be a survivor, to figure it out, to make your way through, to remember that you are still here, you're still breathing, you're still moving, and and the forces of nature are gonna push you forward. And you have the ability and the power to do so. You are a wildly intelligent and advanced being. So, the magician to me, in in terms of finances, is very much it's sometimes just the pat on the back of you're gonna figure this out and you have to get creative right now. You have to really dig deep and think about every resource that you have available to you. Who do you know? What you know resources do you have? What skill sets do you have? Like it is really taking inventory of everything that you can utilize. But then again, we don't stay here with finances. We go on to the next cards and we go, okay, what are we learning from this? Like we got through this. Here we go again. Like we are always blowing ourselves away with how, you know, innovative we are. But we need to figure out how do we lessen this burden a little bit so that we don't have to keep, you know, pulling ourselves up from the ground? Because sometimes that's a little bit difficult to do over and over and over again. So there is definitely very much a learning and a reflection on the side of this as well. But if nothing else, it is just sometimes the confidence booster that you need of like, you've done it before, you can do it again. And even if you haven't done it before, who has done it before? Who have you seen gone through this journey before? And how can you tap in and emulate what you're seeing from them? Can you learn from them? Can you talk to them? Can you tell them your situation? Can they give you suggestions? The magician is using everything available. Think about a big cauldron. You are not just putting one bay leaf in that cauldron. You're putting a whole bunch of stuff in there. This is the magician, is also very much an active card. You have to get a lot of things involved, your past experience, people you know, having conversations, looking into resources, taking action. This is a little bit of everything making this all come together. Okay, so let's talk. We talked about finance, let's talk about romantic relationships. So the magician in romantic relationships, kind of interesting. Um, I think that this to me, because when we talked about the fool tarot card um in relation to romance, in relation to love relationships, it was very much a new beginning. It, you know, as I think that card is always indicative of kind of a fresh start. And so when this comes to love, when it comes to romance, that that looks like, in my opinion, it looks like a a very long-time relationship ending. It looks like, you know, I I mean, I like to sometimes give a couple alternatives with that, but I I would really say that like it is very much a big change in your romantic situation. And how that maybe comes about can look differently, but it is very much there has been a large, large, large portion of your life that has been in this romantic situation, and that has changed. And so I think the magician reminds you of all of the aspects of you, and that you are an individual, and that you have the ability to kind of reinvent and redream up what you want your life to look like, starting there. So before you even invite in the person, the magician reminds you, in you know, relation to romance, that you get to decide what sort of relationship you would like to have, what sort of relationship that you would like to engage in. Again, we're at the beginning of the journey here. We've had the fresh start, and the magician's going, can we use all that we have gone through and all that we have learned and all that we have experienced and all that our friends and family have said to us about the situation? Can we put that in the cauldron and create? Go, what do I want in my next iteration of a romantic relationship? I'm just gonna jump right in right now with the friends and family category because I think that the messaging is very similar. To me, as far as friends and family go, like the fool can look like again, I think it can look like a couple different things in this scenario, but as far as friends and family go, it can sometimes be that you are moving away from friends and family, or that you've had some sort of large, you know, crack in your family, in a friendship with somebody, there's been a large, you know, severing of a relationship. And the magician reminds you again that the older and the wiser that we become, the more intentional that we get to be with the sort of relationships that we want to be in, whether that is the community that we build around us, the friendships that we have, the way that we interact with our family, or the romantic relationships that we have. The magician reminds you, especially too as an adult, that you really do get to choose your environment, your interactions. And every single experience that has been heartbreaking, or you have had to start over, or there has been a large sever or break, is a reminder that it's not just this history repeats itself. Again, just how we talked about with finances in The Magician. We're missing the point if we just go, oh, here we go again. I gotta get scrappy, I gotta get, I gotta figure this out. It's the same thing with our personal relationships. It's not, you know, oh, here I go again. I got into another fight with this family member. It's what am I learning about my relationship with this family member or my family in general, or this particular friend, or this group of people? What am I learning here and how do I adjust? And this is not a card. I mean, it could be, right? Like it could be a card of like, I'm I'm cutting this person off. Like I'm I'm not, you know, having this person in my life anymore. But this can also just be so many other things of like I get to choose if I want to really, you know, be around my family as much as I always am. Like the setup that we have, maybe I alter that a little bit. Maybe the schedule that we have where we see each other so often, maybe that changes a little bit. Maybe I somehow change the dynamic of how I interact with my family. Maybe I decide that I want friendships that are more mutual than I have been in. And maybe if I start to see things that indicate to me that it's not going to be mutual or that I start feeling drained and taken advantage of, that I start to kind of like, you know, make a left, a hard left turn out of that situation. So I think here again, the magician, as far as any relationships go, is really a reminder of everything that you have gathered through your life experience and the knowledge that you have of what does work for you, what doesn't work for you, what does fulfill you, what doesn't fulfill you, and then the ability to create from there and to continue to grow and and connect with people from this place of having a better understanding of yourself because so many of us for so many years, we just have friends, right? That we've had it's like, yeah, they've been my friends since I was three years old. It doesn't mean that that still makes sense for you now, right? That that person still, you know, is someone that you want to intentionally connect with. And again, I understand that these situations are very complicated. So I speak, I speak, you know, with a little bit of hesitancy here. But I think if you're getting this card, right, if you're getting the magician card, it's saying, hey, you have a chance to start over a little bit and create what you really want, whether it be with romance, with family connection, with friendships. How do you want that to look? Again, you have a lot of wisdom, you've had a lot of observations, and what do you want to do differently? All right, the last category that I want to talk about is career. So I think you could probably take a wild guess of where this is going with career. I feel like, you know, we're almost 27 minutes in and we've talked a lot about this card. This card, remember, has all four elements of the tarot. So it's like really every aspect of you as a human, the different facets of being a human being in this card. And so it's reminding you that you have the ability to reinvent yourself, to start off, you know, in maybe one industry and then go into a totally different industry. This card is coming after that card of the fool, which is a blank slate, a fresh start. We talked about with the fool, how it is really, you know, like you were in one career for so long and then you decided to pivot. Sometimes you know, like a lot of a lot of times, like when you leave a certain industry or you decide to leave a career, sometimes you know what you want to do, and a lot of times you don't. I think a lot of times people have just been so in an identity for so long that they they haven't even been been able to really kind of see outside of that. And so the magician is like, hey, you have the ability to explore. You have the ability to tap back into other interests, other things that you're good at, right? Other things that you maybe have pursued in the past, but put on the back burner because this other thing took up so much of your attention. The magician is really like, pick your poison. What do you want to do? What I don't know if pick your poison was really, really the best uh analogy there. Um, I guess with career, yeah, you never know. But the magician, I think, is like you you get like the blank is slate. You get to start over. So what's it gonna be? Go big, like go all out. If you are completely starting from scratch, get crazy with it. Like be a little out there, you know, get people questioning, what are they doing? What is she doing? Like, what? Like, is that even a job? Is that even a thing? Like, is that people even make money that way? Like, that's how you're doing it right, right? When you're just like so far out there, or it's like people are gonna be like, I never thought they would do that, or like I never even knew they cared about that, or what even is that, right? So the magician is like, and this is why I love when this card comes up because again, it's just that reminder of like the crazy 180s that we as humans are able to do. Because remember, going back to what I said at the very beginning of this podcast, how babies kind of accelerate so quickly and develop so quickly and and transform and kind of like acclimate into our world so quickly. I want to remind you that you still have that ability. You just don't use it as much. Babies have to use it all the time, right? It's how they grow and develop into the world. You know, babies into toddlers and to young children, you know, they have to develop, right, into the age that they're in. That obviously starts to slow down, but a lot of this is just because we kind of get into our day in, day out. This is what I do. And so when you are in a fresh start, it is gonna feel difficult. You're gonna feel like the baby that's stuck on its back and is trying to figure out how to roll to its belly. It takes a lot of effort, a lot of focus, a lot of frustration, but you are capable of it. And I think that's the biggest message here is that you are capable of it. It doesn't mean it's not a struggle. It doesn't mean that it's not gonna take a lot of effort, but you are capable of it because you are a wildly, wildly advanced, intelligent creature. And I'm not just saying that to like, you know, boost you up. I mean that like, let's think about it like in the most logistic way possible. We as humans do crazy stuff. The stuff that we have invented in the life that we have created is wild. So you 100% can get a job in a different industry that you've always been interested in. You can do it. It's just gonna feel like a lot of efforting and a lot of rapid growing and being a little awkward and uncomfortable and maybe pooping your pants a couple times. Like, no, but I sorry. I decided to throw that in there as we were talking about babies. Um, but seriously, like it might be a little bit, or like not even a little bit, like a lot of bit of an effort. But that doesn't mean that it's impossible. That doesn't mean it's wrong, it doesn't mean it's not meant for you. It means you're at work, you are stirring that cauldron. You are bringing everything you got, your past experience, your desires, your interests, your support system. You're bringing it all in and you're going for it. You're creating the thing that you want. At the end of the day, the magician talks about I want this. The magician is like, if you want it, you can have it. You have everything you need. You really, really do. You are so well equipped. We are so freaking well equipped. It is ridiculous. But it's really about intention, focus, and action. The magician is definitely about getting your hands dirty, definitely about jump. This is not like sitting there and manifesting. This is getting into action, trying things out, pulling in different resources, looking into things, getting busy, and keeping your intention on the prize. What are you trying to work toward? What are you trying to make happen? And then the rest of the cards just tell us how to do it with some grace, with some sustainability, and we'll get into the rest of those cards as this podcast keeps going. When the magician is the spark, the magician is the initiation, the magician is the first step. And sometimes when you've been at something for so long, whether it's a long-term relationship or a long-time career, or if you've always, you know, struggled with money, when you decide to go in a different direction, it's going to be a big learning curve. But it does not mean it's impossible. This is not your first rodeo, my friend. I guarantee it. And even if it was, it's not someone else's. And they can be proof that you can make it happen. All right, that's what I have for you today. I hope this was helpful. Again, definitely subscribe to the show if you haven't already. It'll update you when I drop new episodes. I will see you Monday for your weekly tarot reading. And otherwise, I hope you have a beautiful day. I will talk to you soon.
