The Church of Saint Angelo
My hockey childhood was spent on the frozen ponds and public parks of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Later, I spent many of my winter weekends in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, playing against the Soo Legion or The Elks or against Bumbacco's.
This podcast is named in honor of Angelo Bumbacco, or more precisely, for what was the best hockey shop on planet Earth--Bumbacco's, just down the street from the Soo Memorial Gardens.
Every Sunday, when I was supposed to be in church or confirmation class, I was either on the ice or at Bumbacco's, which was no problem because, as one of our team's hockey dads pointed out, we went to "The Church of Saint Angelo" every weekend. Of course, he meant The Soo Memorial Gardens and Bumbacco's sports shop, which were our Cathedrals of Hockey.
This podcast brings you news of people growing the game for the greater good.

The World's Greatest Hockey Mom, Zainabu Sesay-Harrell, of Ice Hockey in Harlem
In today's episode, I interview Zainabu Sesay-Harrell, who has had four kids participate with Ice Hockey in Harlem. "Z" is an incredible interview... fun to chat with... super knowledgeable about the game and the hockey community, and incredibly kind. Meet "Z" once and you'll have a friend forever.
This interview was conducted during Ice Hockey in Harlem's MLK Weekend Trip to Buffalo to skate with the Sabres' Learn To Play Program on Saturday and with Hasek's Heroes on Sunday, along with a trip to see Buffalo State University.
