What if the God who spoke light from nothing is ready to speak into your life today? We open Scripture at Genesis 1 and trace that first dawn to the light Christ brings into ordinary lives, making a bold claim: God does not need your “ingredients” to begin a new work. When the Spirit hovered over the deep, order and life followed; when the Spirit moves in us, hope and power rise where weakness once ruled.
We walk through Hebrews, John, Romans, and Colossians to show how faith reorients your story. Christ is before all things, and in him all things hold together—especially when you feel like you can’t. That shifts your posture from striving to trusting, from fighting for victory to fighting from victory. We talk plainly about what it means to be salt and light at work, in school, and at home: flavor that steadies a room, integrity that cuts through fog, courage that shines without shouting. Your life becomes a lamp on a stand, not to draw eyes to you, but to point every good work back to the Father’s glory.
Along the way, we offer practical steps for a visible, grounded faith: simple prayers when words are hard, small acts of service with big ripple effects, and daily choices that keep your witness bright. Expectation is not hype; it’s theology. Where the Spirit is present, something good is about to take shape. If you’ve felt formless, void, or dim, this conversation is an invitation to let God speak, to let Christ hold you together, and to let your light shine so others can find their way.
If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review telling us where you’ll shine this week.
Welcome everybody to another episode of Beyond Sunday. I am your host, Pastor Lee Day, and I pastor Christ Family Outreach Church located right here in the one the only Amelia County, Virginia. If you've not yet made your way out to see what God is doing at CFO Church, I would love, love, love to meet you in person. Come on out and experience what Almighty God is doing and the movement of his spirit. He is changing lives, my friends. We are seeing it every week. Souls are being saved. We are seeing God do a mighty work in his house. Amen and amen. All to his glory. We're going to begin if you got your Bibles in this episode in Genesis chapter one. And I'm going to read the first two verses to you. And this is what the word of God says. Hold on tight. It's going to be a fun, fun episode. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void. And darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Stop right there for just a moment. If you're taking notes, I want you to write these three words down. God created everything. God created everything. Hebrews chapter 11, verse 3 says this. By faith we understand that the universe was created. Watch this now. That the universe was created by the Word of God. So that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. Before we press any further into this episode, I need you to understand that one. By faith, by faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God so that what is seen, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. You see, my friends, God does not need ingredients in order to make something happen in your life. I tell that to my church all the time. God does not need ingredients in order to make something happen. All he's got to do is just speak. He has power. You see, in order to get light, God didn't need certain types of gases to form the sun. Can we say amen to that, my brothers and sisters? God didn't need certain types of gases to take this gas, take this gas, add it, combine it, boom, we got an explosion. There's a sun. No, that's not how it went down. Genesis chapter 1, verse 3 says this. And God said, man, I'll tell you what, that ought to be enough right there. And God said, but it goes on to say this. Genesis chapter 1, verse 3, and God said, Let there be light, and there was light. In Genesis chapter 1, verse 11, God spoke and said, Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind on the earth, and it was so. I think Satan tries to keep people from serving God in their everyday living by reminding them of their failures, by reminding them of what they do not already have. Yes, God does call us to be holy. Yes, he does. But no matter where you are in your life right now, here's good news. No matter where you are in your life right now, God the Father is willing to take you right now, right where you are in this very moment, and do a work in your life that you or no one else could ever accomplish without the help of God, without the working power of God's Holy Spirit within your life. You see, if God did not need ingredients, and I want you to think about this, if God did not need ingredients to form the sun and the earth and everything on the earth, then surely God can use you right now where you are. You may say, but Pastor, I feel like a failure. Well, listen to me. God does not need the ingredient of success in order to make you successful. Amen. Praise God for that. God does not need the ingredient of success in your life already in order to make you even more successful. Again, I'm going to say God is willing to take you right where you are in whatever condition you are in, and God will do a new work in you right now. Right now, if you're willing to place your faith and your trust in him through Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son as Lord and Savior. Now, can we just all give God some praise for what he's doing in our lives right now? And just think about it. I mean, we see what he's doing, we see some of the things he's doing, but imagine what we can't even see right now that he's doing. Imagine what we can't even see that he's already working up into existence down the road. And we don't even know right now. My friends, he is the one living true God. Now, let's get back to Genesis chapter 1, verses 1 through 2 again. Man, it's just packed full of great, great information. Faith-building stuff, I'm gonna tell you. Genesis chapter 1, verses 1 through 2. Here it is. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. The phrase without form and void implies that it lacked order and content. It was without form and void. No order, no content. The phrase darkness over the face of the deep points to the absence of light. So when you think about it, my dear friends, this is how we were before we accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our souls. Without Jesus Christ working inside of us, we lack both order and light. We may have thought we had it all together. We may have fooled ourselves into thinking everything was fine, but it wasn't, and we didn't. The phrase, the spirit of God, was hovering, lets us know something is about to happen. There's a sense of expectation because the spirit of God is hovering over the face of the waters. My friends, God was about to do something, and oh, did he do it. And I'm believing in faith that God is doing something in your lives right now, whether you realize it or not. John chapter 14, verse 26 says that God's Spirit is our helper. Romans 8, 26 says that he helps us in our weaknesses. 1 Corinthians chapter 6, verse 19 says that the Holy Spirit lives inside of a Christian. Acts chapter 1, verse 8 tells us that God's Spirit brings power. John 16, 12 through 15 says that the Holy Spirit will lead us and guide us. 2 Corinthians chapter 3, verse 17 says that the Spirit of God brings freedom. Romans chapter 8, verse 26 also tells us that the Spirit of God will intercede for us when we don't even know how to pray ourselves. I'm telling you, church, I'm telling you, when the Spirit of God is moving around, expect great things because something is going to happen for the glory of God. And we should want to be part of whatever God is doing. Listen to me, church. Listen to me, friends. God is always at work in the life of a person who is always willing to carry the cross and follow after his son, Jesus Christ. I need you to hear that one again. God is always at work in the life of an individual who is always willing to carry the cross and follow after Jesus Christ. Let me read this to you here. Colossians chapter one, just a handful of verses. Colossians chapter one, 15 through 20 says this. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities, all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together, and he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. Now, I want to reread to you just one verse from that passage, and it's the 17th verse. Listen to it. Colossians 1:17. And he Christ, and he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Oh man, that's beautiful. Even when you feel like you cannot hold it together, when you feel like you're losing it, like everything is falling apart. In Christ Jesus, here it is, all things hold together. Oh, friends, that is some good news right there. You cannot focus on your failures. You have to focus on Christ because in Christ, everything's gonna hold together. So I can't look at these failures and focus on that. I've got to focus on Jesus. I've got to focus on what God's word says is happening. I've got to focus on who God's word says that I am. I'm not fighting for victory as a Christian. I'm already fighting from a position of victory. I've got to focus on God, and so do you. And we have to expect him to do an amazing work in our life as we seek after him. If you got your Bibles, turn to John chapter 1, verse 1. We're gonna read a handful of verses here. John chapter 1, beginning with the first verse, says this In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life. It's talking about Jesus here. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John chapter eight, verse twelve says this. Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. John chapter twelve, verses forty-four through forty-seven says this, and Jesus cried out and said, Whoever believes in me believes not in me, but in him who sent me, and whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone, if anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him, for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. You see, my friends, God is at work all of the time. And as he does a work in us, he then will do a work through us. Okay? As he does a work in us, he's gonna do a work through us. And as we are impacted by the hand of God, others standing around, being a witness to it, are gonna be affected. They're gonna be impacted by the outcome. I wonder, I wonder how you are going to let the light of Christ shine through you today or tonight, whenever you're listening to this episode of Beyond Sunday. Because we serve a God that is willing to allow the light of Christ, his only begotten son, to allow the light of Christ to shine through you right where you are. Maybe the only reason you're where you are right now is because somebody, somebody needs to see the light of Christ shine through you. Somebody's got to get some hope out there, and God just may be using you. You are the one to deliver the hope in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Matthew chapter 5, beginning with the 13th verse. We're gonna read a few verses here. Matthew chapter 5, beginning with verse 13. This is what it says. Listen closely. You are the salt of the earth. But if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You, you are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden, nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Man, we could spend the next few hours just beginning to get in deep into that right there. And even then, in just a few hours, we wouldn't, we wouldn't have searched out the depths of that passage of scripture. It is so much meat in that handful of verses right there. But let's let's just kind of talk about a little bit of it. You see, we should not hide the work that God is doing within us. And we should always be willing to allow the work of God to be accomplished. God does not need ingredients in order to bless your life. God does not need ingredients in order to anoint your life. He just needs you to be willing right now to live completely for him in obedience. Once you make the decision to live sold out, truly born again for Jesus Christ, once you choose to become a Christ follower, a follower of God, then all of a sudden you will see the benefits and the spiritual fruit that God has to offer your life. The 13th verse says, Jesus says, You, okay, this is personal here, friends. This is personal stuff. You are the salt of the earth. Have you ever considered that? As Christians, you are the flavor at your workplace. You are the flavor. You are the salt at your workplace. You are the one that people should look at and say, man, their life is not perfect, but they sure do have it together when it comes to their faith. They sure do have it together. When storms hit, when trials come, they don't fall apart. They are rock solid in what they're standing on, the word of God. They are rock solid. They are not swayed at all in their faith and what they believe. That man, that woman, that young person right there, they sure are the salt of this place, the salt of this warehouse, the salt of this office, the salt at this college, the salt at this school in this classroom. They sure are the salt of this place. And Jesus says, You are. That you and I are the salt of the earth. But we don't want to be salt that has lost its taste. Jesus says, because how can saltiness be restored? It's no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. And then he reminds, he reminds the church. He says, you are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. My dear friends, our faith is not supposed to be tucked in a corner just because we go to work. It's not supposed to be hidden under the desk at school. We are to be the light that is that is set up for all to see. If you're taking notes, you can write these two words down. Salty faith. I want a salty faith. I want a bright, shining faith. And Jesus says that he wants this light to so shine from our lives so that people can see it. My friends, when people experience you right now, what are they experiencing? Are you a salty believer? Are you a salty Christian? And I'm saying salty in a good way. It's a good thing. Are they experiencing the flavor of God's word in your life? Are they experiencing the light of Christ shining from you no matter what you've got going on in life? In the 16th verse, Jesus says this in the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see. You see that? So that they may see your good works and then and then not give glory to you. That's not what it's about. So that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. So we're salty so that we can represent God. We shine the light of Christ so that we can represent God. And we do all this for his glory. My friends, I want to encourage you as you listen to this episode that God's got a work in your life. He's got a plan specifically for you. I want you to know and believe and have a great faith that he's working something out in your life. He's working something out that is specific to what he wants to do in your life. And this is why you got to get on the ball if you're not there yet. Because this is specific to you. Because he loves you, but because there's other people around you that need to see the good work that God's doing in your life. They need to experience the salt and the light so that they can know that. That God is good. Can we pray for your boldness? Let's do that. Father, in the name of the blood of Jesus, I pray that as our listeners have listened to this message today about you, Father, doing a work in us and how you don't need ingredients in order to speak something into existence. That right where these listeners are right now, they would have a greater faith, an even greater faith in Christ Jesus, knowing and believing, God, that you are willing to begin a good work right now, right now. And the work that you've already started, that you will continue on to complete in Christ Jesus. So, Father, we're trusting you. I'm trusting you, Father, in the name of the blood of Jesus Christ, that every eye and every ear would be open, that every mind and heart would receive. Father, I'm believing that in the name of the blood of Jesus, that every hardened heart would be broken, and you would give us a heart of flesh where one is needed. Father, we love you, we praise you, and we honor you. Thank you, Father, that you are the creator of all things good, even right here, right now in our lives. And all God's people said in the name of the blood of Jesus, amen, amen, and amen. Until next time on Beyond Sunday, continue to stay in his word and seek him through prayer daily. God bless.
