Comfort can be the most dangerous season of your faith, not because God is distant, but because we start drifting without noticing. We’re talking about the warning signs of spiritual complacency and why “don’t get comfortable” is not a catchy phrase, it’s a lifeline for anyone who wants to stay awake, clean-hearted, and faithful.

We open Joshua 23 and sit with Joshua’s final message to Israel: God has fought for you, God has kept His promises, and God will still call you to obedience. That tension matters. We dig into what it means to live as people being sanctified, to surrender our whole life to God, and to stop offering Him parts and pieces. If you’ve ever felt yourself getting spiritually dull, distracted, or “fine with a little compromise,” this will hit home.

Then we turn to Exodus 14 at the Red Sea where fear screams and faith has to stand firm. “The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent” is more than a verse to quote, it’s a posture for pressure, bad reports, and battles you can’t control. We also connect Isaiah 41 to the promise that God holds our right hand and helps us, while still warning against clinging to the remnant of the old life.

If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend who’s been getting too comfortable, and leave a review so more people can find the show. What are you clinging to right now?

Don’t Get Comfortable In Faith

SPEAKER_00

In this episode, I'm going to title it Don't Get Comfortable. Do not get comfortable. And I think that that is a position that a large, unfortunately, a large part of the body of Christ has found itself in all across the world. We have become way too comfortable. And because of it, we are not walking the walk that God expects us to walk. The word of God tells us that when Jesus comes back, he is returning looking for a church, say it with me, without spot, wrinkle, or blemish. Now he knows that the Father knows that we cannot get that on our own. And this is why he sent Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins. And we are expected to be washed by the blood of the Lamb, okay, to walk in the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ, to be sanctified by God, and to live the way God's word calls us to live. So God, God doesn't just leave us out there all by ourselves expecting us to become without spot, wrinkle, or blemish on our own. No. He equips us with the power by his Holy Spirit to be able to achieve this. And he is coming back expecting the church to look like his church. We have to be careful in the meantime that we are not guilty of becoming comfortable. Because oftentimes when we get comfortable, we can get lazy. When we get comfortable, we can fall asleep. Okay? Now, we're going to take a look at this episode at a man by the name of Joshua. And towards the very end of Joshua's life, he summons all Israel, including its leaders, and Joshua gives them an extremely important message. You see, at the end of Joshua's life, he was not concerned with himself. His greatest concern in life, and I need you to hear this, listener. His greatest concern in life was the people and their relationship with God. Oh, to be there, my friends. Imagine that. Imagine if we truly live that way, that our greatest concern was not for self-pleasure. Our greatest concern was not about our own goals or agendas in life, but our greatest concern was for others to have a right relationship with God. See, if that's our concern, then everything else, everything else is going to pan out just fine. A.W. Tozer, I'm going to quote him here. AW Tozer said this, I quote, God wants the whole person, and he will not rest till he gets us in entirety. No part of the man will do. So basically what he's saying is this God doesn't just want some of our life. He doesn't want just part of the man. He doesn't want just part of the woman. He doesn't want just some part or pieces of our life. He wants to work in every area, in every part of our life. That's just how good he is. That's just how good he is. Imagine if you went to the store and you bought yourself a puzzle. You bring the puzzle all the way home, you open a box, but yet the box doesn't contain every piece of the puzzle. What if the manufacturer of the puzzle held back some pieces? You'd be upset about that because you wanted the entirety, you wanted the complete puzzle so that you could finish the job. Well, I want you to look at God like that. God wants our whole life, not just parts and pieces of it. He wants us to surrender our whole life so that he can do a complete work. Say that out loud, right where you're at. Complete work. Go ahead and say it. Get free. Complete work. If you're taking notes, write those two words down. Complete work. God wants to do a complete work in your life. That's how personal it is. That's how personal the situation is. God loves you so much that our Father wants to do a complete work in

Joshua’s Final Warning To Israel

SPEAKER_00

your life. Now, if you got your Bibles, go ahead if you haven't already. As I mentioned, I want to talk about Joshua. Go to Joshua chapter 23, and right out the gate, we're going to look at two verses. Joshua chapter 23, verses 1 and 2. And this is what the word of God says. A long time afterward, when the Lord God had given rest to Israel from all their surrounding enemies, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years, Joshua summoned all Israel. Did you hear that? Joshua summoned all Israel, its elders and heads, its judges and officers, and said to them, I am now old and well advanced in years. All right. Now stop right there for just a moment. Because in this particular chapter, Joshua, this is what I want you to understand here before we press on in the text. Joshua warns the people on what would happen if they did not live in obedience to God. Now, look at just the third verse for a moment. We're going to press on. Joshua 23, verse 3 says this, and you have seen all, okay. Joshua's still speaking to all the people, and you have seen all that the Lord your God has done to all these nations for your sake, for it is the Lord your God who has fought for you. Can you just can someone out there just say amen to that? Glory to God, hallelujah. That you know that you know that your God, Yahweh, your heavenly, holy, righteous father, has fought for you. I mean, what a blessing to be able to say, My God, my father has fought for me. Can you remember that time, my friend? Can you remember a time in your life where you know it was God fighting for you without a shadow of a doubt? And yet every time, every time you go through something or you face a battle or situation or circumstance or a report that you're not happy about, you can go back to that time that God fought for you and you were victorious in the name of Jesus and the blood of Jesus Christ, you can go back and lean on that time, even today in the right now for strength. You know, with everything that you have, with everything that you are, that you saw God provide for you in such a way he fought for you. The battle was not yours, okay, but but God fought for you. And you could go back every time and you can go, you can draw strength. Hey, if God did it then, he'll do it again. Can somebody say amen to that? If God did it then, my father will do it again. It's a time where God delivered you. You know what I'm saying? A time where God walked you through something. He walked you through the fire and and yet kept you safe. And when you came out of it, you didn't even smell like smoke. A time where God reminded you of his holy word being performed and walked out and manifested right there within your life. It it causes you to keep pressing, doesn't it? When you can go back and draw back on a time where you know it was God. You you know, you just know it was God. It makes you not quit, even when you feel like quitting. Because you know if God did it, then he'll do it again. It it literally picks you up when you're on the way down. Now, flip to Exodus chapter 14 for a moment.

The Red Sea And Silent Trust

SPEAKER_00

Exodus chapter 14. I want you to go there in your Bibles, and and we're gonna start out by looking at the 14th verse. So, Exodus chapter 14, and the 14th verse says this, just the 14th verse. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. That's so good. I want to read it to you again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. Now, it's one thing to get excited over this verse. I know I get excited over that verse, but we can appreciate it more when we understand exactly what the people were going through leading up to the 14th verse. You see, this is right at the point where Israel, all of Israel's getting ready to cross the Red Sea. They have they have begun to come out of Egypt. Pharaoh, okay, Pharaoh kind of he he wakes up and he realizes that, hey, I've I've I've just lost all of the slaves, the Israelites. I've just lost all of the slaves, and I'm going back out there to get them. I'm going back out there to get them. And God, God is gonna take the waters back, he's gonna dry out the ground. Okay? The tenth verse in Exodus chapter 14, 10 says this. When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly, and the people of Israel cried out to the Lord. Moving on in the 11th verse, they said to Moses, Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? Is not this what we said to you in Egypt? Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness. And Moses said to the people, fear not. I love this, the 13th verse. And Moses said to the people, fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. Somebody out there just shout, today, today. Oh, that's so good. And Moses said to the people, fear not, stand firm and see. I need you to get that. I need you to catch that. I'm tossing it to you. I need you to catch it. And Moses said to the people, fear not, stand firm and see. Come on, somebody, and see the salvation of the Lord. Oh man, you when you see God do it, woo, come on, somebody. When you see God do it, I mean, man, that gets me fired up. That's a fire word in my bones right now. I'm telling you. When you see God do it, woo, look at someone next to you and say, won't he do it? And I'm gonna tell you, if you if you're listening, if you're listening by yourself, just just just just just say it. Just say it out loud. Won't God do it? Won't he do it? Won't God do it? Man, that just gets me fired up and excited. But the 13th verse, and Moses said to the people, fear not, stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never come on now. Listen to this. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never. Somebody out there shout, never, never, you shall never see again. Woo! Notice what Moses is telling the people. Okay, this is prophetical. Notice what Moses is telling the people. He said, You're gonna see victory, and you're no longer gonna see your enemy. That enemy that you're looking at right now, you won't see him again. Not that enemy, not that one, not that one. He says, You go see the salvation of the Lord. You go see victory. You're gonna see victory, and you go see it today. Woo! For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. Now, back to the 14th verse where we started. The Lord God will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. Man, I'm gonna tell you. That's some power, powerful stuff. Do you remember a time when God parted the seas in your life? A time when God made a way. Come on now, where there seemed to be no way. Ooh. Do you remember a time? Do you remember a time when God the Father, Almighty God, Yahweh, parted the seas in your life? I'm gonna tell you, you can always go back to it. You can go back to it. If he did it then, say it with me, he'll do it again. If he did it then, he'll do it again. He's always faithful. Come on now, he's always faithful. Just shout that. He's always faithful, he's always faithful. Come on now, build your faith up in the Lord. He's always faithful. Woo! He's always faithful. I'm telling you. Man, woo. Make a brother want to get up and run around this table in this studio right here. I'm telling you, my God, your God, he's always faithful, my good friends.

Obedience And Clinging To God

SPEAKER_00

If you got your Bibles, let's get back to Joshua chapter 23, verse 4. This is some good stuff, I'm gonna tell you. Make a brother want to preach right here in the room, just right here. I'm glad you're listening. I'm glad you're listening. I'm hoping that this episode is gonna take you from faith to faith and glory to glory. Not not because of what I'm doing, but because of the word, because of the word, because of the word of God. For the word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword. Come on now. It's life-changing. Amen. It's life-changing. Joshua 23, 4. Let's get back into the word. Joshua 23, 4 says this. Behold, I have allotted to you as an inheritance for your tribes those nations that remain, along with all the nations that I have already cut off from the Jordan to the great sea in the West. Stop right there for a moment. God not only lets his people know what he's willing to do for them, listen carefully, but he also reminds them of what he's already done for his people. If you're taking notes, I want you to write this down. This is so important. Don't forget what God has already brought me from. Don't forget what God has already brought me from. Don't forget what God has already brought me through. Amen. You you may still be perfecting. Listen carefully to this. Let me teach you this. You may still be perfecting who God has called you to be. Your story's not over yet. You're still alive. Your story, your story ain't over yet. Go ahead, just go ahead and just profess that over, proclaim that over your life. Just say, my story ain't over yet. Your story's not over yet. Okay. But praise God, you are not, and I am not who we once were. Can somebody out there just say hallelujah? Just shout hallelujah to that. Amen. All right, we're marching on. Joshua 23, the fifth verse. I'm gonna read a little bit here, so hang on tight. The Lord your God will push them back before you and drive them out of your sight, and you shall possess their land just as the Lord your God promised you. Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left, that you may not mix with these nations remaining among you, or make mention of the names of their gods, lowercase g, or swear by them, or serve them, or bow down to them. God is saying, uh what God is speaking here through through Joshua, he is saying, do not mix with those nations. In other words, don't be shoulder to shoulder with them, because you will end up doing as they do, and and you will end up accepting their idols and their false gods, and you will end up being uh unfaithful to Yahweh as God. And so he's saying, Stay sanctified, stay pure, stay holy. And the eighth verse says this, but you shall cling to the Lord your God just if you have just as you have done to this day. For the Lord God has driven out before you great and strong nations, and as for you, no man has been able to stand before you to this day. Whew, that's some powerful stuff. We're gonna break this down. We're gonna break this down because there's so much good stuff in this part of the text right here, in this particular part of the passage that we can apply to our lives right here, right now. All right. So let's let's let's by the help of the Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, we welcome you. We we ask you to teach us a Holy Spirit. We ask you to come in and and and intervene, come in and mold us, lead us, guide us, direct us, shape us into who you want us to be and and teach us what you want us to know in Jesus Christ's mighty name and cleansing, washing, blood. All God's people said, Amen, amen, and amen. So let's do it. Let's do it with the help of the Holy Spirit. Joshua 23, just the fifth verse. Here it is. The Lord your God will push them back before you and drive them out of your sight, and you shall possess their land just as the Lord your God promised you. Write this down if you're taking notes. This is what we get from this. God will fight for me. Amen. That's who he is. That's what he does. God will fight for me. He did it back then, he'll do it again. All right, now look at the sixth verse. Watch this. Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, turning aside from it, neither to the right hand nor to the left. All right, stop right there for a moment. Write this down if you're taking notes. Do what God says. God expected obedience then. Oh, my friend, you know what's coming. You know what I'm getting ready to say. God expects obedience now. In the process of God fighting for you, you need to remain faithful. Okay. In the process of God fighting for me, I need to remain faithful. Now look at the seventh verse that you may not mix with these nations remaining among you, or make mention of the names of their gods, lowercase g, false gods, or swear by them or serve them, or bow down to them. All right. Now, write this down, jot this down. Hate what God hates. Did you hear that? Hate what God hates. God don't like sin. Okay? And because God don't like sin, we shouldn't like sin either. Ooh. Just let that digest for a minute. Just kind of let that settle and marinate right there for a minute. God don't like sin. Therefore, we shouldn't like it either. God didn't like false gods. God didn't like false idols. God didn't like things placed in front of him. And we shouldn't either. Somebody say amen to that. Amen. Verse eight. But you shall cling. Ooh, listen to that. But you shall cling to the Lord your God. Just as you have done to this day, I wonder what we got in our lives that we're clinging to. I wonder what belief system we're clinging to because we don't want to get away from what we've been taught. Even though there's something stirring inside of us letting us know that just maybe, just maybe we were taught wrong on something and we don't want to come to grips with it because it's uncomfortable. I wonder what we're clinging to. Write this down. I must, here it is, five words. I must cling to God. I must, according to the eighth verse, I must cling to God. Question for you in this episode right here, a little spiritual inventory question. How closely have you walked with God throughout this day? How closely have you walked with God throughout this day? Have you clung to him? Have you clung to him? Have you listened for him and looked for him in everything that you've done so far? How closely have you drawn into the presence of God? Our mindset should be this. I want to cling to him. Oh, I want to cling to my father. The ninth verse says this for the Lord God has driven out before you great and strong nations. And as for you, no man has been able to stand before you to this day. Folks, we're gonna jump right there from the ninth verse. And if you got your Bibles, I want you to go straight into Isaiah chapter 41, and we're gonna look at the 12th and the 13th verse together. Isaiah 41, 12 and 13 says this you shall seek those who contend with you, but you shall not find them. Those who war against you shall be as nothing at all. For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand. It is I who say to you, fear not. I am the one who helps you. That's so good. God's word is so good. You see, that's that that's our God, having faith that He will faithfully take care of all of our enemies.

Let Go Of The Remnant

SPEAKER_00

And just like the Israelites, so many of us can become guilty of the same thing. They became comfortable. And we too, if we're not careful, can become comfortable. But we cannot. And I just I'm taking this as a as a warning for myself, my own life, for my ministry. I hope you're taking it as a warning for you, for your church, for your family, for my family. I hope you're taking this as a warning, as am I, and we need to take heed to it. That we cannot become comfortable. We can't afford to become comfortable. For the kingdom of God, the kingdom of heaven is at hand. That's what the scripture teaches us. And when we become comfortable, we can let our own guard down. And when we let our guard down, the enemy is already there waiting, poised to attack. Now, we're gonna wrap this up. I'm gonna read just a few more verses. We're gonna wrap this up. But Joshua 23, you can go back there if you will. Joshua 23, beginning with the 10th verse, I'm just gonna read a handful of verses. Says this one man of you puts to flight a thousand, since it is the Lord your God who fights for you, just as he promised you. Amen. Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God. Ooh. Man, I'm gonna tell you, the church, Christians, the body of Christ, I want you to hear that 11th verse. I believe God wants us to hear that 11th verse. Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God. Be very careful. Somebody say, be careful. Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God. For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations remaining among you, and make marriages with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations before you, but they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes until you perish from off this good ground that the Lord your God has given you. Man, did you catch that? Cause earlier we talked about clinging to God, but here the scripture gives a warning to not cling back to the remnant. I wonder, I wonder if anyone listening to this episode right now is clinging to the old you, clinging to a remnant of what or who you used to be. The word of God is encouraging us right here. Don't cling to it no more. Let go of the remnant. Stop clinging to the remnant. And the 14th verse says this, and now I'm about to go to the way of all the earth, Joshua says. He knows he's getting ready to pass. He says, and now I'm about to go to the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. God, the one living true God, is God, and when he says something, he means it, and he'll fulfill it. Joshua says, All have come to pass for you, not one of them has failed. Ooh, that's so good. Joshua says, Every word has come to pass. God has fulfilled it, and not one word has failed. Verse 15, but just as all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you have been fulfilled for you, so the Lord God will bring upon you all the evil things until he has destroyed you from off this good land that the Lord your God has given you. If you transgress the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the Lord God will be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land that He has given you. My friends, God through Joshua, he warns them that they will not see victory if they do not walk in obedience. And I'm gonna tell you, we won't either. We won't either. This is the same God they're serving, is the same God we're serving. If we do not walk in obedience to the word of God, we will not see victory. And I know, I look, I know there are some Christians out there that don't want to hear that, but that's the truth. And truthfully, the only reason they don't want to hear it is because they don't want to walk in obedience, because they're clinging, hear this now, they're clinging to a remnant of who they once were and they no longer should be right now. They should no longer be that. They've got to die to the old self. You got to be a new creature, you got to die to that old creature. Now, if if we want victory, then we have to live from and fight from victory. Write this down if you're taking notes. My fruit determines what I plant. Did you hear that? Your fruit determines what you plant. You see, we already have the victory because we have Jesus Christ as our risen Lord and Savior. There's no need to struggle when you understand the one who controls it all is watching out for you. And if you want to live the life that God has created you to live, He's called you, He's called you to live, then you have to walk in obedience and sow those seeds of righteousness and you will receive a wonderful harvest that can only come from the hand of God.

Prayer And Salvation Invitation

SPEAKER_00

Let's pray. Father, in the name of the blood of Jesus, I thank you for every listener. I pray, Father, that because of this episode, we have gone from faith to faith and glory to glory. God, I pray that you have used this episode to sharpen, to sharpen our faith. And Father, that we would be encouraged because of the word of God, your word, Father, that we have gone over together today. Myself, the listeners, as we've read and shared and listened, Father, may it all be for your glory. And if anyone out there is not yet walking with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, you can do so by saying a prayer, something like this. You could repeat after me, Lord Jesus, I'm a sinner. And I ask you, Lord, to come into my life, forgive me of my sins. I recognize, Jesus, that you died on the cross so that I could be forgiven. And I ask you now to save my soul. Father, may you fill me with the power of your Holy Spirit, lead me, guide me, direct me in the way in which I should go. In the name and the blood of Jesus Christ. All God's people said, Amen, amen, and amen.
