In this episode, we brave the Iowa "industrial freezer" to bring you the latest on the district's long-term school redesign plans, celebrate student voices at the State Capitol, and get ready for the 2026–2027 school year!

Designing for Success: Isabelle and Jennifer break down the three conceptual models presented to the Board by our Community Coalition. From the "Intermediate Model" to the "2 High School Model," we explain what these changes mean for your student’s future experience. Most importantly, we share how you can provide feedback through the community survey, closing on February 6th.

Student Advocacy in Action: We spotlight the students from Metro High School who traveled to the State Capitol for "Day on the Hill" to showcase their STEM projects and advocate for the future of public education.

In This Episode:

  • The Big Three: A high-level overview of the proposed school models (PK–4, 5–8, and beyond).
  • Registration Countdown: Everything you need to know for the February 5th enrollment opening for new students and the Magnet Lottery.
  • Heart of the Community: We celebrate Principal Jason Kline’s well-deserved recognition from Corda Credit Union and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
  • Transition Planning: Details on the "Navigating Life After High School" event for students with IEPs on February 4th.

Glance Around the District: We take a tour of the district to see covered wagons at Viola Gibson, Viking simulations at Nixon, and preschoolers bringing "The Mitten" to life at JSA.
