E02: Charged: Energize Your Life
Welcome to "My Thoughts", the podcast where we explore the energy that fuels our lives—both physically and mentally.
I’m your host, Alvat Garewal, and today we’re diving into the idea of being charged. Not in terms of money, but in terms of power—our personal energy levels.
Just like batteries, we can’t run indefinitely without recharging. We fuel our bodies with food, but what about our minds? What keeps us sharp, creative, and performing at our best?
Join me as we explore the importance of recharging, the role of sleep, and how managing our energy can transform our daily lives. Let’s get Charged and move forward with power!
Charged
Hello and welcome. My name is Alvat Garewal.
Today's topic of conversation is ‘Charged’.
I hope that has made you perk up and wonder what that’s all about.
Well what am I talking about?
It’s not money!
It’s about power.
There is a well known brand of batteries that always advertise that they last longer than any other battery. They just go on and on, apparently. You know the one I mean, don't you?
Batteries that go on and on without charging, now wouldn't that be a thing.
I’m afraid there is no such thing. There are rechargeable batteries and they need constant charging, as you know.Once depleted they are powerless until they have had time to recharge. Then they need to energise and you can then have confidence that they will last, until they need charging again.
Now why am I talking about batteries?
Actually I want to talk about us.
What is our status of charge?
How do we manage to go through the day?
Somehow we think that we can go on and on and on, but we can’t.
We need charging.
We eat food and that is the fuel we need to charge our physical body.
Without the right food we cannot function properly. We need all our nutrients and vitamins, carbs, proteins and so on. That’s why there is such a big food industry telling us what to eat and what to avoid. What’s good for us and what causes us more harm than good.
The flavours that the industry produces, to entice us to eat their products.
At the end of the day food is the charge for us to function on a daily basis.
Now that’s fine for our physical being, but what about our mental state?
What is it that keeps our brains active and fresh?
What does our brain need to function properly?
We of course need a life without tension, without worries and problems.
Unfortunately that is not possible. There is always going to be something that bothers us or troubles us and takes away our peace of mind.
Some people find solace in religion, meditation or other things.
I want to however talk about the most common thing that we all need, and that is sleep.
I mean good sleep.
I have seen people who try and work and work and lose out on sleep. I suppose when you're young you can do that a certain amount and get away with it, but there are always concequences.
I’m sure you know that pilots are governed in such a way that it is vital for them to have enough sleep before they are allowed to fly. Even if they have had a good sleep in the last 24 hours, they are checked for the past few days as this will affect their performance.
So why is it that we think, if we have a good sleep last night, everything will be back to normal.
We need a good sleep pattern every night
If you really want to perform to the best of your ability then recharge the brain properly and keep it charged with sleep. The brain needs to reorganise to defragment every night. If you can keep to this pattern then you will see a difference in your work, your performance, your skills, your art and creativity.
Don’t think time sleeping is wasted.
I’ve heard people say I can’t afford to sleep, too much to do. These days power naps are something that people like to do for a boost of energy. If you have time then it can only be a good thing, but a proper sleep pattern is the way to go, recharge your mind and you will reap the benefits. Your energy levels will go up and you will be more efficient and productive.
Let me know your thoughts. How are you managing your daily lives?
Recharge those batteries and charge forward.
So take good care of yourself
And as always
You are in my thoughts
