Episode 5 - How to heal Shame & Guilt

Felicite Akouba Season 1 Episode 5

Shame is one of the enemy’s most powerful weapons — a silent prison that convinces us we are unworthy of love, belonging, or purpose. But God never intended for us to live that way. In this episode, we take a deep and honest journey into what shame really is, where it comes from, and how God offers healing, freedom, and identity in Christ.

We begin in Genesis — a picture of life before shame, where Adam and Eve were fully vulnerable yet felt no fear, no hiding, and no condemnation. But after the fall, everything changed. Shame introduced hiding, fear, and broken identity — the same patterns many of us still carry today.

We also explore the difference between guilt and shame, using insights from Brené Brown:

Guilt says: “I did something bad.”

Shame says: “I am bad.”

Shame doesn’t just attack actions — it attacks identity.

In this vulnerable episode, I open up about my own journey with shame: being born into a relationship outside marriage, experiencing childhood molestation, being blamed for the trauma, falling into unhealthy relationships, and living under the lie that I was “damaged” and “unworthy.” Shame became my lens — shaping my thoughts, relationships, confidence, and even my calling.

But God didn’t leave me there.

Through His Word, His presence, and His healing love, God lifted the shame I carried for years. Today, I walk in freedom — knowing my past is covered by the blood of Jesus, my sins are forgiven, and my identity is found in Him alone.

This episode is a reminder that:

Your past does not define you

You are not the mistakes you made

God calls you chosen, loved, and redeemed

Through Scriptures like 2 Corinthians 5:17, Jeremiah 1:5, Romans 8:1, and Isaiah 61:7, we uncover God’s heart for those who feel unworthy, ashamed, or stuck in who they used to be.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

•The difference between guilt and shame

•Why shame attacks identity

•How childhood wounds shape adult behaviors

•The power of Christ to heal deep emotional scars

•How to replace lies of shame with God’s truth

•Why forgiveness — especially forgiving yourself — is part of healing

If you are carrying shame today, this is your invitation:

Come into God’s presence. Lay it down. Let Him rewrite your story.

You are forgiven. You are chosen. You are made new.

Because, as I share in this episode:

“God is not looking for your perfection. He’s just looking for your heart.
